Neat, I love telephone switchboards!
this was a good game! i love the concept. i found the triggers for the jack a little unforgiving, but thats just a challenge so not really criticism! nice graphics too. good job.
Looks good felt smooth, and the music was relaxing.
I think by giving a little more feedback when successfully connect a line it would feel much more rewarding. But still fun to play
That's a funny concept, and an original idea !
Nice Job!
Nice concept. Having to remember which call goes with which line was more frustrating than challenging. I agree with the other comment that it could do with more feedback.
Could be really fun with more time spent on it and some post-jam balancing!
Unfortunately, it ended for me with a "Fatal Error: Out of memory" x). I played twice, probably for a total of 14-16 minutes.
It's a really nice idea, quite challenging, and perfectly matching the theme! The music is really nice and visuals are good.
As a way to improve, I would recommend showing visual feedback when hover over a cable or an input. At the moment, when you have many thing to do at the same time, you can find yourself struggle because you don't click slightly next to the object, and lose precious seconds. Some white outline would be nice.
There should also be a timer somewhere on the screen, just to know how we're currently doing!
Good job!
Very nice visuals and quite good audio, however there could be more audio feedback, when we talk about this department. Mood and humor is pretty on spot and the theme implementation, while simple, works pretty well and fits with the theme of the game.
If I may suggest some things that would for sure make the game better for me that would be: - Stronger or different color of the light (or maybe blinking) on buttons that light up. Right now I was losing a lot of precious seconds by having to look really hard for the button (it's also probably very unfriendly towards vision impaired people as it is right now) - There are probably 2 ways to put the cable in when you think about it from design perspective, the one you went with, which is Cursor click on Socket, and one that I tried when playing at first was with plug into the socket. switchboard.png Both ways have their merit, but it is easy to make an error basing on affordance (as I did) because the sockets are in exact space that makes it so when I try to plug it into socket in 1 row higher with my method, I will actually plug it into the socket below. That's probably something to think about in the future. - As noted by other commenters, having to remember which call is which when you have to disconnect them is more frustration than challenge. I can see few solution here too, adding caller number to the green phone icon would probably be the easiest, but probably not really coherent with design, solution. I thought a little bit about it and maybe letting the player choose the color of the cable would make it so player has agency over it and can organise his work better. - There could be more feedback, mostly audio, when connecting, when calling, when disconnecting etc.
In general, you took a very risky route, similar to papers please of turning a pretty boring and/or stressful job into a game that is supposed to be fun. Of course in a game jam enviornment it will be hard to pull this off perfectly but this is a great and valiant effort for which I can only applaud. Keep up and good luck in the future, and also good luck with getting desired amount of ratings in time! Cheers
I was about to leave the same feedback as the comment above regarding where the cable should be to plug it. Additionnaly, the number above the hole would be nice, so as not to cover them when plugging them.
More ambiant sfx (like phone ringing, indistinct conversations...) would be a nice touch.
It was a bit hard to track which call to disconnect, but I imagine that's part of the memory game :)
I really enjoyed playing, it's definitely not something we see a lot of! You did a great job with this, thank you for creating it!!
(in a rush to test many, don’t mind the cursory style)
1. long in-game description! But seems clear. "dissconnect" -> "disconnect"; "collumns" -> "columns" 2. not going to say much more than the others since already quite some comments, EXCEPT that as JMad guessed, I feel that retaining the connection order is entirely part of the challenge! You have to use your memory (my own game is partly a memory game, after all XD), and at my second attempt (which was the real one), I managed to get the hang of it! :) Just blundered a bit, and had some playability/clicking issues that cost me precious split seconds (lost within a hair’s breadth!!). I think I stood my ground for between 4 and 5 minutes, but if I got back to it for a 3rd attempt or 4th attempt (and I will in the future, I think!! Just not now because of the lifesaving testing rush! XD), I definitely think I would make it! Stopping because I have a limited time for each game before the voting deadline. (But I wonder what the end is like!)
**Takeaway:** I think the game works very well, has a great (contextual) take on the theme, and manages to get challenging while staying simple, which possibly a signature of good games! Really forces you to use your short-term memory. Apart from the (little!) playability issue others have raised, I just think 10 minutes is a bit too much, especially if everything stays even (sorry if I missed some variety; maybe the randomisation parameters change during the course?). Also, nice "realistic" graphics, sounds, and clear interface.
A great effective take, thank you! :)
PS: out of curiosity, how did you make the music? :) (And the sounds? Some mouth, or not? ^^)
PPS: forgot to say I love punny titles; I was served. XD
