this game has great idea and even better realization through gameplay. Simple, but impressive

coolgunxdd 2022-10-03 23:30

yes, so much fun......Screenshot 2022-10-03 162948.jpg

spencerflem 2022-10-03 23:31

so many different art styles !!! its so pretty :)

matt-swieboda 2022-10-04 02:44

interesting with all the different scenes, and deepness, i felt like i was trapped, but then i wasn't, cool way to tell a story

creepyounguy 2022-10-04 02:46

See if she was playing dark souls she could learn her dad's attack patterns and avoid this whole scenario

creepyounguy 2022-10-04 02:46

whoops it posted twice

bqq 2022-10-04 02:47

!> Sheesh returning from the stack of video games to that scene was so cool. I feel like the final one (out of the initial game) might have been a bit gratuitous, at least it caught me off guard. Anyways the art and mood are exceptional, great work!

foursay 2022-10-04 02:52

on MY gOD, I was not expecting so many art styles and actual "layers" in this game... The deeper I dive in, the more dreamlike the world is, and the more misarable the reality is. Definitely my life in general and great work. I love your design in using ESC to quit from different layers and that really makes a differernce. Great Job!

jjbug 2022-10-04 03:54

I was really impressed, I found it very strange and thought provoking. It felt very sad, I didn't know what was going on and felt a little disturbed. That's okay, I honestly am not sure if there was more to it other than making it down the stairs past the light switch, but I am glad I gave it a shot. Pretty thought provoking, honestly really curious what it's about and may try again later.

pete-thorne 2022-10-04 20:13

Could you upload a Mac or HTMl version maybe?

erikengineengineer 2022-10-04 20:16

I really love the way you introduce the player to the keys and I like how you place the hints in the game! Impressive and very well thought!

nottahipster98 2022-10-04 22:27

Very surreal experience. Really enjoyed all the art styles used. GG

jmad 2022-10-04 23:02

That was quite a powerful story, through visuals. Impressive work tackling this!

shogeku 2022-10-04 23:22

Wow, wasn't expecting it to be as deep as it was. Def glad i followed the esc hint. I'd recommend making the controls a bit more clear, as i had no idea how to interact with much. It really hit me when I got to the end and had to come back to "reality". A real bit inception vibe done well.

bluepir 2022-10-05 07:11

Woah... Layers. Intense, but well made and well thought out!!

fabula-rasa 2022-10-05 13:25

It's a game within a game within a game - gameception! Interesting idea and well executed. Definitely a unique entry.

I really liked how you integrated prompts into the environment and the use of different art styles to signify transition. I didn't like the walking sfx in reality - it's quite grating. But it might have been the point!

Well done!

she-wrote 2022-10-05 15:57

Nice game!

i-wrote-it-myself 2022-10-05 16:00

@vertoker @coolgunxdd @spencerflem @matt-swieboda @foursay @erikengineengineer @nottahipster98 @jmad @shogeku @bluepir @fabula-rasa Thank you all for playing and giving feedback! You guys are awesome! By the way, I hope you all quitted with Esc, otherwise you missed the real ending!

@creepyounguy It was actually her mother, only now I realized that it was not clear lol! Thanks for playing!

@bqq Yes, it is a little violent, I was wondering if it was too much... maybe it was. Anyway, thanks for playing!

@jjbug I hope you come back, there is more to the game! The clues are there, I believe in you! It was just a little, but thank you for playing!

@pete-thorne I wish, but it is not possible. Sorry. Being an HTML miss the point of the game, and my game engine can't export to Mac.

golin 2022-10-05 18:07

jeez... You are too good at telling stories and conveying emotions to players... Definitely 5 starts on mood. (But why not just tell players ESC to quit in the end? Wouldn't that be more natural?

jaybaus 2022-10-05 21:29

The moment of horror when I realised the twist was so powerful and effective and I felt like the game let me discover it naturally without pushing me towards it in a linear way. Really clever idea, well done :)

blaster391 2022-10-05 21:39

This game is a great piece of art! I loved the slow realisation as you back out of the games, and the twist at the end still caught me off guard

kr4ft3r 2022-10-06 22:54

I'm literally jealous of this amount of creativity. The "puzzles" were gently induced yet I felt smart for figuring them out quickly. - After writing this I glanced at other comments and noticed I forgot your advice at the start. Having replayed, it became evident that each layer is happier than previous one, and with that more meaningless, and my initial enjoyment more delusional.

nick-shooter 2022-10-07 02:21

Took me longer to figure out the escape gimmick than I'd care to admit, haha. The different art styles were definitely interesting too with the art style getting more abstract the further you went into escapism via games. The big reveal at the end didn't really land for me though. I felt like there was a progression being established for things becoming more dark/realistic as you backed out, though I feel like the art in the final image was going a bit too much for shock value over substance. Perhaps the implicit would be more unnerving than the explicit? That, or if you're really leaning into the gory side of things, I feel like the art could use a bit more realism. Anyway, it might just be a personal taste thing for me, overall it was a unique experience.

actuallythemoon 2022-10-07 02:31

Oh, I liked this. Reminded me a lot of 2000-era indie games, including the bit where i'm too dumb to figure out a lot of this stuff and had to play it a bunch of times and read the comments before i could see the whole of the game lol

Tbh i'm not really sure where the 10 seconds theme really fit. But aside from that it's a real effective work. Very bleak (the ending in particular was a bit much tbh), but good storytelling and great use of tonal shifts. Good stuff!

aristurtle 2022-10-07 02:51

I think this is the first really unique experience I've played through in this jam. The way puzzles are introduced without explicitly telling me what to do was clever. Some I found accidentally just by trying different things, like pressing enter at the computer to enter that world. It wasn't until I escaped out of it that I noticed the enter key on the keyboard was lit up.

Similarly, it took me a few minutes to realize I needed to turn the computer on. I didn't notice until I tried the light switch again and the computer was lit in the dark.

I think I understand the story being told here and it definitely its some sad notes. Escapism into the game from the verbal abuse is something I'm familiar with. The different layers as you backed out of each one added to the depth, with the final reveal.

jag 2022-10-07 03:18

Very very interesting game. I feel its very unique and really different from everything else out there. I got stuck a bit here and there but nonetheless it was very thought provoking. A job well done!

robobarbie 2022-10-08 04:25

really nice twist. i always like games that take basic game mechanics and use them against the player for narrative purposes and/or twists. great job, great mood, great feeling of dread pooling in my stomach!!!!!!!

chriswiseman 2022-10-08 06:34

Really like the way you have done something very different and the use of the sound effects to prompt the user.

feynallein 2022-10-08 06:44

Really original, hits hard, is unexpected. Just well done!

dingledorf 2022-10-08 06:52

Definitely very thought-provoking with a twist that hits hard. You did a fantastic job blending together a variety of styles into a cohesive package. Great game!

shadowcast 2022-10-08 11:01

Love to see a game with personal and unique perks. When I see a working mirror in a jam game, I know this game is going to be something else, and it delivered. Well done.

mandy858 2022-10-08 22:36

Really creative. Maybe a little short, but I understand all the work it should have taken. Great little game. The sound was kind of anxious, but really liked the graphics.

johnnysix 2022-10-09 00:36

Wow that was a journey - I liked the elements of the point and click / interaction , and the transformation of the game visually - very cool. I completed it wanting to know more. :smile_cat:

daivyishere 2022-10-12 09:17

Game is pretty cool. Didn't expect it to be that sad. Really creative entry from you :)
