The art style is amazing! Absolutely love the art direction and choice of sound direction.

ranjan 2020-04-21 01:38

Fun! The graphics are very well polished. I would recommend letting the player move with WASD - it seems like arrows and the SD keys work for movement, but not W and A, which confused me a bit in the beginning. Overall, great job!

asiago 2020-04-21 01:44

I'd love to play this one but I have no idea how to run it. I have javascript but no matter what file I open, it returns errors?

wegpast 2020-04-21 01:49

@asiago Even on this embeded version on Itchio ? https://wegpast.itch.io/stoke-it

arktas 2020-04-21 15:03

@ranjan Maybe switch between AZERTY and QUERTY (we use QSDZ, we are french :p).

100th-coin 2020-04-21 17:14

Woahhh! Amazing work on the graphics! The work is super detailed. seriously, excellent job.

disthron 2020-04-21 17:20

Very frantic, or at lest it was for me. Loved the art style and I think it fit the theme really well without being super obvius. It was very hard for me to both navagate the ship and keep an eye on the gauges but I think people will like that aspect.

boxedmeatrevolution 2020-04-21 17:25

Very nice art and atmosphere! Managing the modules' integrity while simultaneously dodging stalagmites was quite intense. I just barely escaped haha!

vesper 2020-04-21 17:33

Nice work! It was both fun and challenging once one had a handle on the controls, and the graphics were excellent.

texz 2020-04-21 17:36

Amazing game ! Do some updates ! Pleasee ! :)

lespaul59 2020-04-21 18:06

Awesome artstyle, nice mood and great music! Top entry!

asiago 2020-04-21 22:31

@wegpast Yeah it works now, but why in the holy hell are the controls like that? S and D are correct, but then you've got back on q and up on z??? Thats madness!

I couldn't get very far, but I will say I love the art direction, theme, and the customization of the ship. the music was grating and quite hard to listen to though, and the sound effects levels needed adjusting. There was a "ding" sound that pierced my eardrums, when most of the other sounds were pretty low key.

This game's got some potential though, I just wish the controls were on WASD lol

I'm a youtuber, your game is very nice! I want to make a video with the best games of LDJam46. Something like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aOdTsWE7iIk . Can I find your game also on indiexpo website? The channel is linked with them.

arktas 2020-04-22 08:06

@Torh It's done : https://www.indiexpo.net/fr/games/stokeit

2020-04-22 08:14

Great!

wegpast 2020-04-22 12:10

@asiago the game is originally designed to be played with the Arrow keys ;) And our Unity setting was based on the Azerty layout ('cause we're french our keyboard is like this)

We'll make the "wasd" control working soon.

masterpose 2020-04-22 20:49

At first I didn't understand the mechanics, but when I did it was a hell lot of fun, I finished. This game could get popular in mobile, just make a little tutorial instead of pages of information. Great game!

notapixelstudio 2020-04-22 23:05

Nice idea, keeping an eye on the gauges and controls while also piloting can be very challenging and rewarding. I would love being introduced to the many different aspect of the game in a more gentle curve though. There's a lot to process right from the start. Someone already mentioned a tutorial, but also levels with an incremental complexity would be very interesting IMHO.

garett-cooper 2020-04-22 23:11

Like some people have pointed out, the info boxes at the start are a bit of an information overload, it was hard to put all of the information in to practice without restarting several times. I also had troubly with the AZERTY designed controls, so I ended up using a controller in one hand and the mouse in the other. Once I got over those hurdles I had a great time.

ballipilla 2020-04-22 23:13

I too used the keyboard and mouse control and it seemed a bit of a challenge. Enjoyed the game. Nice visuals too.

infinite 2020-04-22 23:19

Very nice graphics ! Bravo !

julienlussiez 2020-04-22 23:20

The art is really great ! It's very immersive, you never wanted to flee from a big worm than here. I like the idea to build you ship along the game, it's an interesting mechanics that mixed pretty well different rhythm of game. Well done !

finnthepirate 2020-04-22 23:32

nice concept for the theme and nice pixel art, I also love the music good job guys

tyler-bay 2020-04-22 23:33

I like the game a lot! The art is great and the gameplay is very smooth. I'd say maybe use different color font in the write up to make it clear to the player what the actual controls are, as they get lost a little in the information overload in the start. Otherwise, really awesome game, the worm reminds me of Dune :)

williamcarter 2020-04-22 23:59

Nice Game! I thought that the pacing was fun and engaging, and the art was great, especially for such a short jam. My only advice on improvement would be to maybe incorporate the control scheme into a tutorial section perhaps? the intro help screen works fine, but a tutorial may be more engaging.

sndr 2020-04-23 07:54

The art style was suuuper cool and the mechanics were engaging. I liked having to balance the navigation with the upgrades/repair system. I really liked the overall mood. Minimal sounds, but effective and they gave this slightly old-school feel - yet modern - that, well, I really digged.

One small thing and that may be just me being a bit of a bad loser but.. I could swear that even though technically it looked like a projectile from the enemy wasn't going to hit me, it did hit. Could it be that the collision box is a bit too big for the asset? Or was I just too unskilled and not being able to admit that I just didn't dodge properly? :see_no_evil:

arktas 2020-04-23 08:56

@sndr This is the hitBox of the shuttle (https://drive.google.com/open?id=1E_F4UmBVknRfSprk1VXKiAiTCXGgL4ZE) and yes it's a bit larger than the sprite. We didn't use polygon collider from Unity but a box collider, cause we were lasy :p. Maybe we will update a bit the game this weekend post ludum and give a link to play an update version for who want to try more about this game :) .

cvetk0 2020-04-23 14:59

Well made game with nice atmosphere! I found it really hard to coordinate everything and I sadly didn't manage to escape no despite trying quite few times even after figuring out all the upgrades and how they work. Got pretty close I believe though . The graphics are great and the sound is pretty cool as well. Hope to see more from you, keep it up!

teamindot 2020-04-24 15:19

yeah this was pretty awesome. Some more clarity in the ui icons would help but overall great idea and stellar art! really really nice!

lyrcaxis 2020-04-25 12:43

Nice game! Even though it took me a while to realize why I was dying, though. I liked the graphics and the gameplay was quite fun once I realized I could move and upgrade my ship :)

I managed to bring the enemy to -20 HP on my 4th playthrough but the game kept going. There's an issue with the HUD not being displayed properly on non-fullscreen. You might want to add a warning for that.

Overall I liked it :) Good job, keep jammin!

virimine 2020-04-25 12:45

It's a bit difficult to balance at first but once you get it, its very fun to play! Really nice job! Graphics fit the game style and are very well polished! Well done!

jmad 2020-04-26 18:50

Beautiful art, very cool dynamic music, nice idea. Am terrible at the game, yet it was an enjoyable ride. Hard to keep track of the ship's status and where's you are going, but it's part of the fun - I personnally would have been fine with just maintaining the ship, would have loved to have someone other that one of my cats next to me to control the ship and make it a 2P ship co-op-ish game (if someone tries, let me know how fun it is, and if you go any further, am curious).

The unpleasant bit was the amount of text on the intro explanation, though x) However, might just be me that wanted to play and wasn't in the mood to read, to be honest.

Great entry, congrats team!

fatpenguin 2020-04-26 21:43

That's a very pretty and impressive piece you've managed to put together! the pixel art looks splendid, the gameplay is decent, the avoiding controls felt smooth and you were able to put so much gameplay mechanics in there! however, the way I see it, that is the biggest weakness that it is overwhelming at first, if you continue to work on it I would start gradually, at first making a segment where the player simply has to avoid the obstacles and then slowly adding all the upgrades :) maybe the upgrading never stops because you still get hit sometimes or like the machine parts get broken over time or something? You could also make it that after a player manages a segment you have a short time to buy upgrades at a store etc (which you can only do between the segments) I think FTL might be a good source of inspiration for your game :)

All in all, a very nice entry with gorgeous pixel art!

johnnysix 2020-04-27 00:42

Absolutely loved the art in this, the animated worm was very reminiscent of the old 16-bit era with the animated segments.

I kept dying and I couldn't figure out why, maybe a few intro levels to get familiar with everything one at a time?

invader 2020-04-27 10:54

Cool game! I love the style - that mix of Dune and steampunk create unusual aesthetics.

Tutorial on start really helps. The only complaint I have about it is that font is not easy to read. Maybe it makes sense to scale up the tutorial content to the whole screen. There is a lot of unused space left on my screen with tutorial occupying just a quarter in the middle.

wegpast 2020-04-27 11:50

@fatpenguin @invader @johnnysix A "Post LD" version is on its way, it will include a better difficulty curve and a tutorials (true one, not text and static images :p)

@jmad Coop is a greate idea, but implementing Multi-Players has been always a struggle on our last games, so... in 72h it would be some risky business ! Still, your idea is quite nice, maybe we'll think about that in a Post-Post LD ;)

@cvetk0 @teamindot @lyrcaxis : Yes, the game need some more clarity, in HUD and in its way to alert the player on incomming problem (like to much pressure). In the Post LD, we will had some more visual and sounds effect to help the player manage all that he/she have to do to get through this escape :)

Thanks all for feedbacks ! Stay tune for the Post LD ! I'll go back test other games, cya !

stupidpawn 2020-04-27 19:37

The game looks really and sounds really good, well done!

mlkvr 2020-04-30 15:02

Graphics are awesome i really like the art style, upgrades are also cool but i couldnt manage to advance too far :)

joemid 2020-04-30 17:37

It was really difficult for me to try to pilot the ship and flip the levers and avoid the baddies. Actually, I never lived long enough to "Stoke It!"

I almost feel like it would be more fun if the ship was on auto-pilot, or on rails- as crazy as that may sound. If only because of all the other details and game play you have crammed into the game.

The graphics are amazing! The art-style def recalls an alt-history 1990's high-end computer game adaptation of Lynch's Dune. Can't wait to see what you do with this post jam. Congrats and thanks for the game!

cliff-lee-cl 2020-05-03 10:00

Awesome entry with great graphics and audio! The gameplay is rich and upgrades are cool! I would suggest to use keyboard to upgrade/fix the ship because the game is getting messy when the ship is getting faster. It is hard for me to concentrate on controlling the and also upgrade/fix the ship at the same time. :)

szupinek 2020-05-03 12:39

Great entry! Pixel art is soo neat, probably my favorite part off this game. Pretty fun to play, although it took me a while to grasp on the keyboard/mouse controls. I found pressing upgrade/reset/activate buttons hard at times, maybe because of their size. Still, I've had a lot of fun with it. And, oh yeah, great audio too!

akitl 2020-05-11 19:48

the graphics are superb!
