LD30 — Connected Worlds

Above and Below by zakchaos 2014-08-25T20:39:00

I enjoyed the concept behind the game, but I felt that the controls were lacking in responsiveness. At one point I managed to make the guy glitch out over the water!

I was not able to make any of the barrels float. Just as I emitted a bubble, I would get crushed by a drum.

Hungry Hungry Overlords by Polyducks 2014-08-26T00:01:00

Yes, I will agree with you that it's difficult to understand. I think if I had a rewrite I'd make the interface much simpler. In this case, where I was in art direction, I just really wanted to cram it full of neon. I my have got carried away.

TrackBlasters by paulloz 2018-08-20T19:36:28Z

I liked your artwork a lot. I found the gameplay was frustrating - I had no signal whether driving around the track was being counted or if I was doing it right. A lap counter would've been very helpful for this!

The concept was very novel. I liked blowing up the track and causing myself issues.

Super Responsible Parent by dietzribi 2018-08-22T18:45:01Z

Really fun game, and I liked the idea of letting out air from the bouncy castle to continue. The mechanics were well rounded and the level of effort that went into the opening sequence really put it above and beyond!

Please check out and rate my game if you get a chance :)

Pocketverse Protector by Alfie275 2018-08-16T06:41:30Z

An interesting game. I liked the resizing of the levels and how it grew/shrank. The graphics could use some love, and I felt there was a distinct lack of direction for the player.

The movement controls felt a bit clunky and random. If the player doesn't need to jump from platform to platform they may as well be able to move in a free-look style. Driving around with a 'brake' didn't make much sense.

The National Library of Geometric Impossibilities by nanolotl 2018-08-16T07:22:28Z

I was really looking forward to this one, but I get a graphics crash at the start. I'll come back to review w/stars if I manage to play.

The National Library of Geometric Impossibilities by nanolotl 2018-08-20T19:47:42Z

Hey, I came back and replayed it. I'm not sure if it's an optimisation issue, but the game FPS was really low and that hindered my playthrough. It made everything very slow, sometimes speeding up again.

I liked the idea of filing books away, but it didn't seem to fit with the theme of running out of space. I began exploring the library and got stuck in some infinite loop.

I really like the graphics of the pixel art in the 3D space, and the brickwork was really pretty. With some work to prevent stupid users like me from wondering off and some optimisations, I think this would be a very playable game.

Running Out of Space by karmo 2018-08-20T20:50:56Z

I lost a lot of confidence in the game when I saw the typos in the opening paragraph and the 'untitled' heading. After looking at the other users' reviews I found I could show the bone to the dog, but I had no real motivation or direction while playing. I didn't really know what the objective was. I could put the game in the console, but then what?

As a general rule, you should subtly guide the player, letting them know what verbs they can use and a general idea of what it is they should be doing.

I liked the map of your game and applaud your choice of textbased game, but definitely needs some research on technique.

Zachary's Memory by namnam 2018-08-20T20:20:09Z

A lovely game with an interesting mechanic and story. Sometimes the paragraphs don't contain enough content to link them together, and that makes a trial and error situation. Other than that, a really pretty, atmospheric game.

LegDos by ChaosTheLegend 2018-08-16T06:33:07Z

Game was cute for what it was. The game names were funny and I liked the references to popular software. Sometimes the notification popups were hidden because I was on another screen, and I had to click all the programs to see their costs. I think with a UI update to make it quicker to move around and some balancing this game could be a fun distraction. I wasn't really sure what I was working towards, and that made my investment dwindle.

I thought the music was a great loop and set the theme nicely.

Pastien Le Pingouin by Caffeinated Psychics 2018-08-20T20:00:00Z

I got through it! I liked being able to pick up the fish and spit them back out again. I don't think I got far enough to see the 'running out of space' part of the game as the side-scrolling made me feel motion sick, but the obstacles made it a challenge.

A few bugs: I found shooting would sometimes work and sometimes wouldn't, and that caused problems when trying to avoid an obstacle at the last minute. I also noticed that sometimes the penguins/ramps randomly despawn. Restarting the game didn't restart the difficulty or the fish-eaten score.

A nice, tidy and complete game. I really liked your penguins.

STEP by ArBe 2018-08-16T06:56:05Z

The game wasn't super clear on where you'd end up, or why you flew up into the air when the block exploded, or where you'd be placed after you flew into the air, but I liked the puzzle mechanic and when I got the hang of it it was quite enjoyable. It's possible to improve on this by adding transition animations and a ghost or target for where you'll end up.

That said, finding out the route by trial and error was also fun.

I wasn't a big fan on the effects filter. It made it difficult to focus on the puzzle aspect, as opposed to the simple low-rez artwork which allowed me to concentrate at the problem at hand.

The worst part of the game was the constant apologising and self-depreciation in footnotes. It's quite clearly a very technically capeable game that was completed within the time limit and didn't require excusing. The focus should've been about the game.

Break by starhacker 2018-08-16T07:10:48Z

I really liked the concept. The main point of difficulty was getting squashed under falling blocks and then being blocked from shooting incoming enemies. It's the physics that makes it extra difficult.

Getting used to the controls was difficult at first, but once I had that understood it was really fun to manipulate the perspective.

The Post-Grocery Conundrum by Luxry 2018-08-16T08:01:52Z

Quite easily first place material for the jam. I really enjoyed the real-life problem of stacking items in the fridge. My only frustration was the speed with which things rotated. I really liked the introduction of other people's food in the fridge as an obstacle.

Climb by Albin 2018-08-22T18:59:24Z

I really, really liked this one. The art style is fresh and new instead of the usual pixelart and the character is simple but likeable. The controls felt good and comfortable. This is currently my number one for this jam.

Please try out my game and let me know what you think!

Warehouse Simulator 2018 by PSiv 2018-08-20T20:25:17Z

I think once the controls are sorted this game might be a lot of fun. It seemed like the chute filled up so quickly I didn't have time to look around.

O: Defeat the monsters from hell to prevent the world from collapsing by smt 2018-08-22T18:28:52Z

I liked the graphics, they looked great. As far as I'm aware there wasn't a way to increase the area, so my survival time each round was about 34 seconds. I didn't see the bosses that were mentioned.

Even though I was shooting the monsters directly it took a lot of hits to kill them.

WearOut by Abhis1Kadian 2018-08-22T18:34:25Z

Congratulations on finishing the jam! I found the only way I could win was to spam W. There wasn't much in the way of gameplay.

Stuck! by chkkll 2018-08-16T07:03:05Z

Loved the concept, really liked the artwork and the music. I couldn't move my character beyond swapping between two spaces and couldn't pass the first level. It made me very frustrated.

From what I hear, the web version is different to the download version in terms of physics.

LD46 — Keep it alive

Save the sun MAN by MrChippy 2020-04-22T10:45:58Z

Really well-rounded game. A smart piece from every angle. Lots of work in such a tight space of time, well done.

From Dusk Till Dawn by Nikolay Zapolnov 2020-04-22T10:24:40Z

I really enjoyed the music, storytelling and atmosphere in this game.

The physics seemed a little buggy in parts, but I put that down to the short deadline. I wasn't able to get beyond the first level because of the unpredictable physics - it made it hard to judge where the organ would land - but I watched through the tutorials to see the rest of the game.

The graphics would benefit from having a consistent palette - I recommend this tutorial: https://pixeljoint.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=11299

Music was haunty and well executed and really added some depth. I thought the voice acting was an excellent touch too.

All in all I enjoyed this game more for its story telling and atmosphere than its gameplay.

Planet Defenders For Hire by paulhocker 2020-04-22T09:48:39Z

I got a few freezes - "return to home" at the end of a round and the help button made the game stuck, for example.

I really enjoyed it. I liked the progression and being able to buy more stuff for defence. What were the rockets and satelites for?

Feed the Machine by DeathStorm 2020-04-22T10:02:55Z

I really enjoyed the theme. It felt a little like SS13, running around and fixing things on pain of death. It was difficult to find all the machines, and often I'd die before finding the ones I needed. I think if you revisited this with some visual clues (like arrows on the UI for where things are, a HUD for various stats) it could be really fun to play. Sterling effort.

The Last Robot Archer by bernard-bumblebutt 2020-04-22T10:52:58Z

Very fun game. I thought standing still to shoot was very innovative because it also made you vulnerable. It was unusual to have to take no action to take the most violent action - and I really liked that.

Strangely I really liked how the player looped back to the beginning and applied the new skills the player learned to levels that were previously challenging.

Flower Defense by Andy Herbert 2020-04-22T09:31:06Z

I agree with @bubbadubc - the momentum mechanics could use a bit of balancing. The graphics are clean and tidy and work well with the audio for an ominous atmophere.

I like the arcade style of the opening screen.
