Wish you had a linux build

pumpkikin 2020-04-21 01:16

@tri11paragon building mac and linux builds now, though i cant promise they'll work as intended.

pumpkikin 2020-04-21 01:48

@tri11paragon all done for you (hope it works!)

grinnij 2020-04-21 02:35

That was pretty fun, and satisfying to watch the Ai mechanics, very dynamic. the game was quite fun and simple which is good. i enjoyd it. i did however have a crash, cant say what it was or that i repeated it but it was about a minute in.

pumpkikin 2020-04-21 02:49

@grinnij That crash is unfortunate - though, if i hazard a guess i'd say it was to do with the players shooting mechanics, logic isnt my strong point and i ran into a lot of issues with arrays out of bounds around that part, I barely made it stable earlier today.

Really satifying game. Love the use of the physics at the beggining. Simple but funny overall. GG

rooftopdog 2020-04-21 04:11

Really cool looking, loved the theme you have going on. For some reason I couldn't lose, game would just go on for ever, i had no bullets left and neither did the enemies.

pumpkikin 2020-04-21 04:13

@RooftopDog were you on the windows build or linux/max? enemy blue guys should get all their shots back after they've ran far enough away from you. (At the very least did losing all your lives kill you)

xeno-software 2020-04-21 05:08

Very unique look and graphics. I kind of felt that the music didn't match the dark mood, but I loved the game. Funnily enough, I didn't realize the theme until halfway through so I was spamming LMB until I lost all my ammo. Very enjoyable experience, I hope to play some of your other games.

tarnes 2020-04-21 05:23

Love the idea of an amalgamated player avatar, and the initial surprise and level-interaction the physics-intro brought. Might raise the clipping distance or fan those cubes away from the camera though, they can really clog things up. Otherwise, a neat idea that definitely woke me up with that initial disruption lol. Edit: also playing at an extremely high resolution somehow led me to never see a blue guy again. This didn't happen at normal resolutions. cubeoi.png

shaolin-dave 2020-04-21 06:27

Just wanted to let you know, you're link says this is for Windows only, you might have some Mac and Linux users passing this up because they have to click the Windows logo to find out it's not window-only.

shaolin-dave 2020-04-21 06:29

Also for some reason the Mac app isn't opening. Yours isn't the first I've had this problem with, about 1/5 of every Mac game I try errors out. What version of Unity did you build with?

pumpkikin 2020-04-21 08:40

@shaolin-dave ah I'm using the most upto date unity 2019,i don't own a mac so I wouldn't be able to tell what's wrong - the source file is included however so if you have unity then you can play it in the editor (though I know it wouldn't be the same). Oh I didn't realise I set it to Windows on here, I'll change that - thanks

@tarnes ah yeah the game is built around the resolution of 1920x1080,i forgot to force resolution scaling (and its too late to update now). Good shout on the clipping plane though, I didn't think about that!

pumpkikin 2020-04-21 08:44

@xeno-software ah yeah, the music was added literally 20 minutes before I uploaded the project, it was the only music I had on hand. I really really wanted to put eerie music in it instead, just didn't have time.

dvd 2020-04-21 10:14

very cool game

png 2020-04-21 16:56

nice game! i like the minimalistic graphic style. the game does not end after losing all lifes. is it supposed to be that way?

pumpkikin 2020-04-21 17:46

@png Ah shucks, so it turns out when i was patching some bugs during the extra hour I managed to turn off player death. I'll fix that bug in a little bit

lebbyfoxx 2020-04-21 20:11

This is quite a nice and simplistic game. It took me a couple of tries to understand how the controls work, but in the end it was an enjoyable experience! Fits the theme quite well and plays smoothly/controls are smooth. Good job!

pumpkikin 2020-04-21 22:24

Just uploaded a couple bug fixes in relation to whats been mentioned here (par from the random crash comment)

stolen-biscuit 2020-04-21 23:05

Interesting take, I really like the idea of shooting your body and having your character move be a collection of entities rather than a single entity. The shooting felt sharp, although I'm not sure if I just ran out lives but the game crashed for me (linux) at a random point with no error message. All in all, really cool take, thought it was great

pumpkikin 2020-04-21 23:08

@stolen-biscuit thanks for your feedback! If your health reaches 0 the application shuts, if you had full health then the random crash was likely caused by my botched job at fixing some array issues (it happens semi-rarely, so I've resorted to just giving up fixing it for now)

harry-alissavakis 2020-04-22 08:18

Pretty fun and arcade-y, the shooting felt nice even though it took me a while to understand I had a limited amount of boids to shoot ^^" Good job!

shaolin-dave 2020-04-22 08:22

I found a solution to Mac apps not opening. If you're on a Mac you can fix it with the instructions on this post: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/dragon-eggs/some-mac-games-cant-be-opened-lets-figure-it-out

If you're not on a Mac, I could possibly fix it for you tomorrow. Just let me know.

pumpkikin 2020-04-22 10:31

@shaolin-dave Thanks for figuring this out for people! If its not too much trouble could you link a fixed version of the mac game? And i'll upload it inplace of the current mac ver on my itch.

eckkert 2020-04-23 02:11

Fun game, but I think it crashed. I was following the green square (the one leaving behind a trail of yellow) when it closed. Other than that, it was fun, I liked the idea of having a posse of followers. In a sense they were trying to keep you alive, which is an interesting interpretation of the theme.

flookz 2020-04-23 02:57

Pretty fun! Game sounds good, looks simple but appropriate. I wish it didn't start immediately, kind of disoriented me. I was having a good time, but, unfortunately it crashed after a while.

pumpkikin 2020-04-23 11:09

@flookz @eckkert Thanks for the feedback! As stated in the description, if you loose all your life then the application will shut itself down (hence why no error message). This is because i didnt get time to code a death/restart system, sorry!

daniel-moreno 2020-04-23 19:30

Hey! I'm not sure why, but I had to get the game out of my Downloads folder so they game could run (on Mac). The game run correctly on other folder. Hope it helps those with the Mac problem.

Great job you did here, the game was quite fun and entertaining, and fits the theme in a certain innovative way! Music was not playing for me, but I guess it has to do with those Mac problems.

bjornkri 2020-04-26 20:13

Nice boids! Was going to report that it crashes when you die - but looks like that's not a crash :) Not entirely clear how your supposed to go on once all your boids have died, can you recover somehow or are you doomed? Good idea!

pumpkikin 2020-04-27 09:51

@bjornkri thanks for the feedback! the game is about surviving as long as possible and managing your boids so you dont use them up(you earned more by killing enemies), so once the boids are all gone there is no way to get them back!
