LD46 — Keep it alive

Into the Woods by DJN 2020-04-23T02:31:12Z

A cool idea, but the lack of any way to finish or progress led me to find an exploit by scroll wheeling in and out of the torches, and i wandered the edge of the map for a while before realizing the game actually had no ending when i found the third note. The atmosphere and premise had me hooked at first, but there was unfortunately so little to do. I wish there was more (any?) audio, made it hard to stay invested.

Maybe one of the slowest Sokoban i've ever played. It looks alright, atmosphere and lighting were ok, but the sluggish speed of the game makes it a frustrating slog I only finished thanks to level select.

Mood / Music / Audio all pretty well implemented, but feedback and gamefeel was pretty stiff/hard to parse, character tended to randomly turn around when I attacked and the cooldown on the attack was really long. Easy to lose since your awareness of your status, health, location of the fox/enemies and etc is hard to track. Overall i'd say focus a bit more on gameplay in the future! Clearly a lot of effort was spend on sound/ambiance, which does show!

Like the idea. Wish the base speed was higher. Game is clearly very tightly balanced, and I found that the wood was far to scarce overall, It felt impossible to access enough wood to win. Seems like I'd have to play it multiple times to optimize my decisions and make sure to use everything optimally. Unfortunately with how painfully slow it is to play, I can't say I'm eager to do that. I liked the little story being strung along, and the day night cycle was a nice touch, although I wish it effected mechanics more then just visually.

One of the coolest things I've played thus far. The gamefeel, simple and effective visuals, audio design, all of it. Clearly heavily inspired by devil daggers, if it was thrown together and mixed up with a survival/tower defense. Amazing job. Made it about 62 seconds once. Only thing I wish i could do is survive long enough to see more enemies!

Germicide by tCubix 2020-04-23T02:44:48Z

I love tower defense and thoroughly enjoyed most aspects of this game, but it was intensely held back by some issue that makes it so that you had to move your mouse VERY slowly in order to drag towers, otherwise they'd get stuck.

Fantastic atmosphere , audio , and visuals, but not particularly fun? not much variety to walking slowly in a circle mashing E, but i loved watching all the worshipers crowd around. Nice stuff.

Pretty fun! Game sounds good, looks simple but appropriate. I wish it didn't start immediately, kind of disoriented me. I was having a good time, but, unfortunately it crashed after a while.

Congestion Crusaders by JDegs 2023-10-03T04:10:36Z

Had fun playing this! Got around 3500 points once. It's really hectic, which is fun once you kinda understand the game. I think that it starts off a little aggressive at the jump, and without sacrificing any of the frantic lategame it could be nice to have a minute to get my bearings, earn some currency and set up units while enemies trickle in before the flood. Especially as a first time player it can be a bit demoralizing how quickly you get overwhelmed.

A think the interface has a few small problems as well, small easy to fix things but that hurt my trust in the reliability of the controls and made the game harder to play, particularly when overwhelmed by a lot of units.

Being unable to select a unit type if you don't have enough currency feels likes a bad choice. When i'm waiting for currency to trickle in I often want to switch to the unit i plan to place down in anticipation for placing it, but since it doesn't allow me I often ended up putting down the wrong unit and wasting my money at a critical juncture.

A smidge of feedback would be nice as well for hovering/placing units. Perhaps a ghost of the unit selected so that I know with confidence what i'm about to place, and some small sounds when i select 1-6 with different pitches so I know what I have selected without looking, and another small sound when clicking that confirms or denys that a unit has been placed successfully so that in the middle of a frantic situation I waste less time in insecurity.

Either way it's good fun for something so simple. Haven't seen a tower defense with a radial layout like this.
