n-o-games 2020-04-20 02:32

Really fun and juicy, i love the frantic nature of it. I think you should add traps like spikes or holes. Really good game.

stevenjmiller 2020-04-20 13:13

Very satisfying and engaging game, my best score was 30. My only suggestion would be to add a button to manually end a run, as there are some levels where you can get stuck after the first move and then have to wait for the timer to run out.

managore 2020-04-20 14:13

@n-o-games I was thinking about hazards, but sadly I didn't have the time to try adding them in. if I keep working on the game they'll be the first thing I experiment with!

@stevenjmiller thanks, and congrats on getting 30! I didn't mention it anywhere in the instructions but you can press escape to finish a run and return to the title screen

ssstormy 2020-04-20 14:19

Solid as always! My high score was 28. I was a bit disappointed to not see any iteration of the core. Nonetheless, this is neat variation on the core sliding-puzzely-thing!

tobiasw 2020-04-20 14:25

Damn, what a game. Again. I still remember you from your games 5+ years ago when I participated last, and every one of them is such a pleasure to play.

The art is simple, but very pleasing and easy to look at. Love the screen shake and the general level of polish. But my favourite part is easily the gameplay. It's been a while since I saw a realtime puzzle game, and it works pretty well! In the beginning I actually planned a bit how to get to the goal, and very quickly that was replaced by trying to get to the goal more by frantic intuition than by planning. It makes for an interesting experience.

And on top of all that, procedural generation. Wow. Great job!

(Ah, and I really like that the start screen is also the first level and the tutorial. Gives it a very rounded feel.)

alexvoxel 2020-04-20 14:30

Good job building the tension and the feel!

fazz 2020-04-20 15:50

This is super fun! (I only managed a 23 highscore)

I'd echo a comment above suggesting a reset button as you're first move sometimes prevents you from being able to complete a level, seems a shame to end an entire run that way. Perhaps it could reset just your position but not the timer, a fair compromise?

If you develop this further it might be worth a slight tweak to the procgen to maybe reduce the amount of narrow weaving passages in some levels, as they can be quite simple to complete.

This is really great though. I'll be giving it another go later.

west 2020-04-20 15:53

Really fun game easy to get into.

I could see this in the appstore.

My favorite ld game so far!

thedashdude 2020-04-20 18:20

Really well done. Small, but a very satisfying and complete experience. The sfx + particles + screenshake made the impacts feel really nice. Great work.

drachmor 2020-04-20 18:21

Wow, "adrenaline" is right. This may have been the most fun game I've played so far - the mechanics are so INSTANTLY understandable, the time limit equally so. Adrenaline right to 100. I'm digging the simple art style, and the sound works very well in service to the oomph of the movement collisions. The gameplay is also surprisingly repeatable, and the fact that levels are procedurally generated (but are still, I think, necessarily winnable?) is really impressive.

Edit: Playing a bit more, it's cool to think that the "winning" path has presumably been established during the level creation, and you're more or less tracing it as you play. I have discovered a few tile formations during play that are inescapable (generally in the form of a loop with no accessible exits once inside), which isn't to say the level is unbeatable, but that one wrong initial movement is dooming. This isn't necessarily a fault of the level generation, but a "level reset" key may be something to consider in a full mobile release or something.

bredcrumb 2020-04-20 19:01

Great game! The mechanics are crisp and understandable, the gameplay fells increadibly polished :D

tayl1r 2020-04-20 19:03

Really fun game as always.

Wish the exit and the player were a little bit more distinct as I sometimes confused the two :pray_tone1:

nabo369 2020-04-20 19:40

Super fun game to play! It is immediately clear what you have to do and how and because of the changing levels every time is a challange.

hacktrout 2020-04-20 19:47

Damn I love your style so much. All your itch pages are a treat. Oh yeah the game was great too! Only gripe I have is that it isn't mixed up but that's standard for game jams.

double-jammer 2020-04-20 20:10

even though it wasn't faithful to the theme, but it's definately my favorite so far. I am not a fan of puzzle games, but the tention in your game hooked me :D

siryakko 2020-04-20 20:13

that participation is really clean and simple, yet i don't see the theme in it.

moritz14 2020-04-20 20:28

Very funny!

stadoblech 2020-04-20 21:09

Very clean, smooth and enjoyable. Quality submission!

maniulo 2020-04-20 21:14

28!

thomas-bringer 2020-04-20 21:31

Amazing game! Super polished and juicy, the game feels so nice to play. Particles, screen shakes, sfx are really great. I love how you have to be faster and faster. And also the fact that this is a roguelike makes it even more interesting. Overall very fun to play. Congrats on making this! :D (especially for 15 hours)

oskardev 2020-04-20 21:57

Really fun and polished game, I love it! I hope that you will keep working on it and add more features

chaseplays 2020-04-20 22:08

I got to 31! Every game you make is so polished and fun, and even with only 15 hours you made one of the most well-packaged games that I've seen so far. The SFX and graphics in particular work really well together, and make the game much more engaging. It doesn't exactly fit the theme (maybe keep the streak alive?) but despite that, what you made is still really impressive! I especially liked that difficulty was based on the time it took to complete the previous levels, encouraging going even more quickly. Great work, this is really fun!

verrazano 2020-04-20 22:11

The game core was a great idea. Like the sliding block puzzles in zelda on steroids. It'd be very interesting to see the code for generating the levels - I did notice that there were levels where you could get permanently stuck.

cryptomnesic 2020-04-20 22:43

This took me right back to this exact moment:

18-SB_17_13.png

noirdrive 2020-04-21 00:04

Best game I played so far, really polished, simple yet addictive mechanics.

bean 2020-04-21 03:07

Very cool game. How did you do the procedural generation?

grentacular 2020-04-21 03:18

It's funny, I was actually thinking the other day about how I wanted to play more of these slide puzzles, and here you've given me as many as I can handle! Simple but incredibly well-polished, and the procedural generation is amazing! I'm really impressed!

bitdecay 2020-04-21 03:59

Clean and crisp feeling. Had you been playing with procedural algorithms prior to this game? It came out pretty dang good. I made it to level 36! Good juice sitting in this entry, to boot!

arturnista 2020-04-21 04:54

Polished game, juiciness is on point and the timer adds a new frenetic layer to the gameplay. Very impressive procedural generation. Great game overall.

evergreen-games 2020-04-21 04:56

Super addicting. The level generation works really well.

omni 2020-04-21 05:05

Really fun and more importantly, the game feels amazing. Love the minimalist art as well. :)

brylamare 2020-04-21 05:24

Wow this was really fun, a keeper for sure :) Great work, love the color choice and subtly touches.

acoto87 2020-04-21 05:57

This is a good game, fun, addictive with awesome art and animations. Great work!

aeveis 2020-04-21 06:05

Best I'd done was 32! Nice and tight game.

euix 2020-04-21 06:36

very polished and soothing game; the mechanics are immediately obvious and the levels are quick and exciting - although, it's possible that a level is generated such that you become trapped in an endless loop with no way out. stopped more runs than i would like. this would be a wonderful mobile game

samlecreator 2020-04-21 06:51

'Satisfying' feels like an understatement. With only 5 colours, a box, a button and walls, you've made a game I have to catch myself from replaying too much. The only real criticism I can make is the distance from the theme, like you mentioned.

It took me a moment to make the connection between you and Roguelight - but it's no surprise, you have a knack for satisfying games that offer so much more than you'd think for their size.

peachtreeoath 2020-04-21 06:54

Lvl 37. How do you have such a good control over the player's emotions? All I could think the whole time was OK, my heart just jumped right there, damn this guy. Super tight design and the right levels of juice. I'm nothing but thoroughly impressed.

snowl 2020-04-21 07:16

Really enjoyed the mechanics of the game and the art style. Didn't love being trapped in a box with no way out! The difficulty ramping up wasn't obvious at first and then suddenly BAM I'm dead.

sulo 2020-04-21 07:29

Man, this is like crack cocaine!

rein 2020-04-21 08:07

Excellent design and execution. I don't even have constructive criticism, it's just great.

mika-la-grand 2020-04-21 08:25

Well done Daniel, the game is a lot of fun to play. My best score is 22. The game is really easy to understand, there is nothing complicated that gets in the way. The only thing I didn't understand, was what "diff" means.

technonugget 2020-04-21 09:33

This is... just amazing.. Like seriously this has got be be my favorite implementation of procedural generation that I've seen yet. And the gameplay is so simple and to the point but so satisfying. I don't think I've ever requested this before, but please port this to mobile. This would be an amazing mobile game.

torn 2020-04-21 09:58

To get the negatives out of the way - I don't feel it chimed with the theme very well, and it was lacking music. The gameplay was also very simple. However, this simplicity made the game very intuitive and made it flow well. I really felt the rush as I raced against the clock, which was also a nice addition to an otherwise simple game. Overall, everything that was present, was very polished.

nightvision65 2020-04-21 10:42

The gameplay is nicely done, and I like the way that using countdown to motivate the players'emotion. The mechanic is not so innovative though, and doesn't seem to match the theme well. But overall, nice job.

hadesfury 2020-04-21 11:29

My best is 28, it was a good experience. Well made ;)

florianduf 2020-04-21 12:36

The game is very nice. The generated level too. :)

andret0701 2020-04-21 13:09

That was one well polished game. Still curius about how you did the level generating

stuembi 2020-04-21 13:44

the finish of this game is sweet! juicy gameplay and good replay ability

javad-tab 2020-04-21 13:52

felt really good! I enjoyed the minimalist graphic style!

andrew-roulst 2020-04-21 14:19

Procedurally generated puzzle games are always amazing to see, and the graphics and sound are also incredibly satisfying.

geegaz 2020-04-21 14:20

Really nice ! I really wanted to see what you'd come up with this jam, and I'm not dissapointed ^^ One thing though, since it's procedurally generated softlocks can happend. I got stuck at level 16, where I was stuck in a small loop. But honestly, it was really good otherwise ^^

pie75 2020-04-21 15:33

simply amazing

raeya 2020-04-21 15:42

I genuinely felt my heart getting faster as the difficulty went up and I got closer and closer to running out of time, adrenaline indeed XD Really like that, controls incredibly smoothly and it didn't take long at all to feel comfortable with what to do.

holysparks 2020-04-21 15:47

The most beautiful and polished take on the classic puzzle. Even the itch.io page looks gorgeous.

pythooonuser 2020-04-21 16:11

A very polished game.

elendow 2020-04-21 16:43

Super juicy and fun to play.

crisfalcon 2020-04-21 17:24

These types of puzzles are my favorite, and trying to solve them under a time pressure made it really fun. I love that you can check the level even after you died to see where you failed. Nice polish. Great game!

arinyl 2020-04-21 17:44

This was really fun! A simple puzzle game that I could play for hours!

kiln 2020-04-21 18:15

Simple, yet fun and addicting. I definitely played 4-5 times. I like that it stays on the screen you lost at so you're able to see where you went wrong.

ludipe 2020-04-21 18:37

I really liked the concept. You created something very engaging given the time you had. The stages where you can get locked by moving in the wrong direction felt a bit frustrating but I guess it's a fair punishment for moving before analyzing the whole layout.

dankar 2020-04-21 18:44

Great game! Simple but addictive gameplay and very polished!

double-top 2020-04-21 18:44

The art is pretty simple yet it's beautiful to look at. It's satisfying to play and requires some skill, but it's simple to learn. Good job!

mallard 2020-04-21 18:48

The procedural generation of this is very cool and the time pressure really feels well-tuned.

ryannielson 2020-04-21 19:36

Great game. I love the look and feel, it's very polished. It's a fun concept, and I think it'd benefit a lot from some pre-designed levels, maybe a maximum amount of moves mode so they're more like puzzles.

In its current state it's a little easy and doesn't really have much of a difficulty ramp. But procedurally designed puzzle levels are tough.

Great game though, the attention to detail really shows.

sigod 2020-04-21 20:19

Thank you for windowed mode and alt+enter support!

mrleeperry 2020-04-21 20:34

Super super slick!!!

staircase27a 2020-04-21 20:39

Really fun puzzle and really interesting to have a puzzle of this type that is procedurally generated.

blacksheepza 2020-04-21 21:19

Really tight game, and super impressive that you made it in such a short time! Well done!

euler-moises 2020-04-22 03:54

I loved it! I really love games that surprise me! At first glance you don't give much, but when you play you say "WOW!". Simple, fun and challenging. A very dangerous combination.

Congratulations!

adamcyounis 2020-04-22 05:35

A really tight entry. I love the twitch gameplay, and especially appreciate the way that it's input driven rather than based on the absolute position of the box when the input is made. There's a design mastery in skipping the animation and letting the brain just make the moves it needs to make to solve the puzzle. I loved the little touches (smoke / dust, the screen nudge) and the simplicity of the design. Also a great showcase of proc-gen in an LD game.

My one gripe with the algorithm is the way you can lock yourself in a loop with no exit. It's a real momentum killer to have to just watch the timer count down on your inevitable demise. Still, exceptionally impressive work as always. Thanks for sharing :)

uberpupy 2020-04-22 06:23

It's a fast, addictive and well-made game. A very good entry for compo. I feel that levels are very similar between runs and this make the game repetitive after a time, maybe the procgen need some tweaks. The art is quite simple but is perfect for this kind of game. The game is very polished and the movement feels so good.

alchemic 2020-04-22 07:45

This game is incredible!

I made a similar game for LD44, but I had a tough time with the level design!

The graphics are also very well-suited to this kind of game, and the visual effects are very nice (especially the path you carve behind).

The only problem is the inescapable loops you can sometimes get caught in.

I love everything about this.

A description of how the proc gen works would be amazing.

adrena-line-highscore.png

fishmasterino 2020-04-22 08:00

Everything is tight and responsive, audio and visual feedback are great, graphics look good and are very readable, great game !

wans24 2020-04-22 10:40

Awesome little game. Graphics, sound and controlls feedback is great. For me it feels really inspiring.

lazzydev72 2020-04-22 10:57

We have a very similar game but Yours is better and finished and mine have some bugs too. well ienjoyed playing your game a lot. WellDone Keep it up :v:

ogelgames 2020-04-22 11:37

Amazing game, would make for a great mobile app if swipe control was added

franklins-ghost 2020-04-22 12:00

Fun game, enjoyed playing and liked how fast the levels passed. Would be great to have a reset button and more of a distinction between the player and the goal.

theothersamp 2020-04-22 13:47

Fantastically polished fun little game. The procedural generation is impressive, I would like to see a writeup of the algorithm sometime. The only problem with it that I encountered is that occasionally if you make a mistake you can get stuck in an inescapable loop. I would have liked to see it be impossible to get into an unrecoverable position.

The frantic pacing is really fun, and the feedback and juice makes fast moving feel very satisfying and tense. The adrenaline feeling from the title is perfect.

It might be interesting to have an additional mode where the scarce resource is moves not time, so that it can provide a more cerebral puzzle experience too.

docgeraud 2020-04-22 14:39

One of my favorite entry sor far! I love how you always find how to add a twist to a well known formula. Good work man.

youniversal 2020-04-22 15:33

SO SO SO FUN. This is exactly the kind of game I can spend hours going "ahh just one more turn" and find myself losing time. The sound design and aesthetic are super tight, and I think this game can only really be made better by things that could be developed after LD, like competitive modes with a generative code to share with friends or a leader board! My record was 36, and I'm definitely coming back to beat it in the morning.

Edit: woke up, got to 55, this is still great.

reddashgames 2020-04-22 15:39

Okay... so ill keep it short its one of my favorite games in this jam so far, everything feels tight and well controled and almost all mistakes are due to my own stupidity and/or pressing the wrong buttons. Ill love to see a sort of mobile version of this little gem it feels perfect for on the go gameplay.

harry-alissavakis 2020-04-22 15:53

Super fun and really filled with adrenaline! Great art and audio too. Can't think of anything to add, this was a really awesome game! Great job!!

necromic 2020-04-22 18:04

Super fun game to play. Nice spin on a classic game mechanic, it's pretty adictive after a while. Nice simple graphics too.

noxalus 2020-04-22 19:43

My first try: 25.

The game is fun, beautilful and feebacks are great. I directly understood what I had to do without reading any instruction!

yeti-kid 2020-04-22 19:45

Really fun addictive gameplay! Really well made and instantly replayable!!

jusw85 2020-04-22 20:06

It's a simple and great game! I could only get up to 20 after multiple tries, I keep getting stuck in dead loops.

blinry 2020-04-22 21:05

Super solid entry! Liked the art style and the fast gameplay! I often confused the player and the goal. Getting stuck in loops was a bit frustrating. I wondered whether the levels were generated, or hand-made... Thanks for building this! :)

justin-c 2020-04-22 22:19

Nice game. Really fast and satisfying to play.

nvrskipgameday 2020-04-22 23:17

Really fun, challenging but it doesn't feel impossible. I like the fast pace of it, too. A nice balance, really well done. :D

zazito 2020-04-23 02:40

Managore always on point! Great game. Best score 21 after about 15 minutes.

rainbowism 2020-04-23 03:40

Simple, fun, and to the point. Brings back childhood nightmares of all the ice sokoban puzzles in retro games. Highscore was 38 on the first run, but couldn't quite beat it in the next 15 minutes.

qfrct 2020-04-23 07:24

A puzzle game with timer? No way, you can't do that ^^

caeonosphere 2020-04-23 08:57

Fun! I did see some very similar looking puzzles, and it's sometimes possible to get stuck if you make a boneheaded move. Simple and sweet. Better than I could do in 15 dang hours, that's for sure...

oxters 2020-04-23 11:21

This game is so much fun to play and it's exactly my type of game!

managore 2020-04-23 13:19

oh my goodness, thank you everyone for your ratings and comments! I really appreciate all the feedback, compliments, complaints and suggestions

when I made the game I was annoyed that it was so easy to accidentally trap yourself and lose the run, but I didn't have time to fix it and hoped people weren't too badly affected by it. based on all the comments I've made an updated version with some bug fixes and, most importantly, with some extra code so that levels containing ways to trap the player are no longer generated

@ssstormy that's very fair! I might experiment with some extra elements if I have time, though I'm worried I won't be able to incorporate them very well in proc gen levels

@tobiasw thank you for the kind words! I remember playing and really enjoying snakeformer all those years ago :)

@fazz thanks! it turns out there was a mistake in the proc gen which was making a lot more weaving passages than I intended. fixing it has made the average level a lot better (and a lot harder!)

@drachmor sort of... the level gets generated and then, if there's a good spot for the button to go, it spawns it there. if there isn't, it just keeps generating a new level and trying again. and yeah I hated that you could start a level, press a single key, and be doomed immediately

@tayl1r that's a good point, and something I'll definitely play around with in the future

@chaseplays thank you! yeah I wanted to encourage a seasoned player to want to go as fast as possible even on the first levels where there's plenty of time, so I'm glad you mentioned that!

@verrazano, @bean I'm hoping to write up a detailed explanation eventually but for now I've made a [visualizer](https://i.imgur.com/Db9kvrZ.gif) to show how the algorithm works. the numbers at the end are the number of steps required to get to each square in the level

@grentacular hahah, you're very welcome!

@bitdecay a little bit, but not for a while. I wrote similar (but still very different) algorithms to make the levels in [mr moneybag](https://managore.itch.io/mr-moneybag) and in [death of a lich](https://managore.itch.io/death-of-a-lich)

@samlecreator that's very kind of you to say! thank you

@mika-la-grand it's short for "difficulty" but I should have called it "speed" or something else instead. as the difficulty increases, the amount of time you have for each level decreases, so you have to react faster and faster the longer you stay alive. I'm going to rename it "spd"

@torn that's very fair, I wish I could have done more with the theme and music

@ryannielson yeah that's always the downside of proc gen, most of the levels will never be as good as hand crafted ones, but I like the idea that you could play this for a long time without ever seeing the same level twice (though you'll see the same tricks and patterns a lot). I didn't make this clear at all in the game but the difficulty ramp is just in the time you get for each level getting shorter and shorter. I wasn't brave enough to make the proc gen itself incorporate difficulty!

@adamcyounis I'm glad you mentioned the animation skipping! I knew it would have really bothered me (and everyone else) if you had to wait for animations to end or risk your inputs getting ignored. you're absolutely right about trapping yourself, too. I've fixed it in the updated version. I'd underestimated just how frustrating that would be

@alchemic I'll check your LD44 game out, it's cool to see what other people do with the mechanic. here's a [visualizer](https://i.imgur.com/Db9kvrZ.gif) I made of the level generation, I'll write more about it soon, hopefully

@lazzydev72 your game looks great! I'll try it out soon

managore 2020-04-23 13:25

@theothersamp those are all great points, thank you! I've since fixed the getting stuck problem, and I'm going to write something about the proc gen soon but for now here's a [gif](https://i.imgur.com/Db9kvrZ.gif) of roughly how it works

@youniversal leaderboards would be cool, but probably too much work for what might stay a fairly small game. 55 is an amazing score, by the way!

@blinry making the player more distinct is something I'm definitely going to look into. and wondering whether the levels were hand made or not is such a compliment to me! :)

tobiasw 2020-04-23 13:40

@managore Aw, it makes me happy that you remember my little game!

Btw, I've played lots of other games now, and ADRENA-LINE is still among my favourites. I'll include it in my roundup post(s) in a week or two :D

saxops1 2020-04-23 14:12

Great fun! I loved how much it made me think - crazy to think about how quickly this was made too! I'd love this on mobile :) My top score was 20!

I think some music that sped up with the game could be cool - as well as some more variet in the art.

nsadie 2020-04-23 14:12

Impressive entry; fun to play, nice level generation, simple and very polished!

microchasm 2020-04-23 15:42

I like this style, nice and coherent puzzle game. I think LD games with a simple idea and a lot of polish are usually the best ones. I've see a number of games where the theme tie-in is to keep the player avatar alive, which I don't think is quite in the spirit of it but the game stands alone as a cool experience anyway. Well done.

arden 2020-04-23 15:42

Really cool entry. I could really see this becoming something. Like a "puzzle mode" that removes the timer and forces you to solve it in as few moves as possible. The level generator might already know the most efficient solution?

Then something to up the difficulty over time, rather than just the speed of the timer. like switches to open passages, etc.

Great job! I hope you develop it out a bit more!

tommy 2020-04-23 20:44

Incredibly good game, super fun and challenging! I'd love to know more about the procedural generation algorithm.

ithildin 2020-04-23 21:33

I reached 22 and had to stop or I could continue for an hour or three; this game is certainly flow-inducing

As polished as ever, I appreciated the simplicity on this entry. The game mechanic was simple and immediate to grasp, and the visuals were pleasing to the eye.

Nice job!

Fun and simple game. Small scope, nice for a game jam. Oddly very engaging. I felt super focused while playing. Main critique would be that it felt weird that you start from the beginning after you lose. This is understandable though considering the context and scope.

thecrancher 2020-04-23 23:01

Hey there, I liked how simple this game is. It was very easy to just zone out and keep playing. I was thinking that if you made a puzzle mode, then you could put lets says "crystals" floating around the level forcing players to go out of their way to collect them all. Great Work!

glaciereclipse 2020-04-23 23:14

Phenomenally polished for such a small game, every movement felt very satisfying and meaningful. I also appreciated how you could chain moves, as in you could input the next direction and it would go there immediately, which also felt very good. The mechanic isn't new but your take on it is surprisingly very addicting and engaging. I could honestly see myself just zoning out and playing this on my phone. Phenomenal work!! (As always  )

sand-gardeners 2020-04-24 00:31

loved the pace of this game you totally nailed it!

hcursino 2020-04-24 07:27

God I love this kind of puzzle! And the proc level algorithm is brilliant, made as far as level 32, then it got too fast for me. Amazing entry, good job!

hjalte 2020-04-24 10:53

As always, super satisfying juice gameplay. This really is the perfect time-waster. I might keep this game around for a while :).

alexascher 2020-04-24 13:56

Very good as always! How can human make this in 15 hours?

argon 2020-04-24 21:01

Awsome, reminds of my more intense games of Ricochet Robot !

qyouk 2020-04-24 21:10

Very fun a polished game! I really like playing it. My highscore in 18 but I feel like the result depends of the generated level. And I think the link with the theme could be more explicit. But as always, a very well made game! Great work! <3

aurel300 2020-04-24 23:04

Addictive gameplay! Top score: 32 \o/

I think the timer starts flashing a little bit too early, it distracted me a bit when there was really still quite a bit of time left.

francisco-caal 2020-04-25 07:46

Very good game, super polished and addictive.

szieberth-adam 2020-04-25 09:12

I feel it a little off-theme, but still one of the best games made for LD46. I keep it on my HDD for casual play. Thanks!

blubberquark 2020-04-25 10:17

It's very polished, but it doesn't really *do anything* with the theme. Did you generate the puzzles like [this]( https://blubberquark.tumblr.com/post/154241474475/procedural-generation-pattern-inverse-puzzle)?

samstallion 2020-04-25 13:55

Seems like you took the least favorite part of some adventure games (the ice level) and made it a fun puzzle! I like the style of the graphics, gameplay is solid. Good Game

room606 2020-04-25 15:32

@managore Hey, this is very well done game mechanics, mister! Game is minimalistic (art and features and that's good!) but complete and all things work pretty good - intro level without the timer, I like it. Effects of screen shake and flash are just enough to convey game's live feedback to the player, this is so cool! My record is 11 level and I love this game. game_over.png

Few questions: 1. Do you have plans to release this cool game on mobile phones (Android would be preferable, he-he)? I'd played such a game on my smarphone screen. 2. How do you generate random levels? Is there some interesting difficulty progression subsystem? And Am I correct in understanding that each level is 100% guaranteed to be solvable? How do you implement such limitations in your code? (Yeah, I see, there's link to source code but some comments and notes on code from the author would be appreciated). 3. Do you plan do post a dev-blog / post-mortem article about procedure generation of levels in your game? That would be a must read, sir!

P.S. Followed you. Thanks for the game, sources and happy coding!!!

rasti 2020-04-25 17:34

There is a nice game, but not for this theme

noobexception 2020-04-25 19:25

I love the game! (Yeah, but it's not really connected with the theme)

reef 2020-04-25 20:44

I always look forward to you games. This was fun and was so satisfying to get into a rhythm. The procedural generation works well for achieving that "puzzle zen" state, but it eliminates all feeling of progression. Really engaging game though and good expression of the concept.

elemental-zeal-game-studios 2020-04-25 22:25

Really satisfying game-play, and overall very polished. I wish the theme played a role but otherwise a great entry :)

atmospherium 2020-04-25 23:28

Nice work. The basic gameplay felt familiar but the randomized levels and the time limit really made it feel fresh. As always your presentation is top-notch and you came up with a challenging game that doesn't feel unbalanced or unfair.

managore 2020-04-26 04:53

@arden whether or not I add a puzzle mode, it would be cool to tell the player when they beat the level as efficiently as possible! the level generator does already know the minimum number of moves required.

@thecrancher that's a really good idea!

@glaciereclipse thank you for the very kind words :)

@aurel300 I think you're right about the flashing, if I make any future versions I might dial it back a bit

@blubberquark yeah, sorry about the lack of theme. it started off with you collecting fuel but it just didn't look any good so I abandoned that theme but really liked the gameplay I had. anyway, your "Solve, then Generate" approach is really cool, but I generated mine using the "Generate and Solve" approach. I started by carving out the level, then checking if there was a good place for the button to go (plus a few other checks). if there wasn't a good spot for the button, I'd generate a new level and check again. thanks for linking your article, by the way, it was a good read!

@room606 1. I'll think about it, but I think the game's a lot more fun with arrow keys than it would be with swipe input or on-screen buttons. 2. I'll write more about this later, but to get a rough idea it works like [this](https://i.imgur.com/Db9kvrZ.gif), where it makes a level and then finds a good spot for the button to go (any spot with a "7" or higher). if there's no such spot it generates a new level. this way it's always solvable. 3. yes, definitely! hopefully sooner rather than later, too

wans24 2020-04-26 08:15

Included your game in my list) https://wans24.itch.io/he-needs-healing/devlog/140983/what-ludum-dare-46-did-to-me

mattwoelk 2020-04-26 16:36

I just want to acknowledge how beautiful the itch page is: https://managore.itch.io/adrena-line adrena-line.PNG (Also, fun game!)

foolmoron 2020-04-26 18:11

Ran into an impossible one at level 7 on 1.0! No issue on 1.1 though.

The trail is crucial - it lets you instantly identify whether you're retreading your steps, which eliminates the most frustrating thing about these puzzles. The time limit raises the pressure nicely, but there is a high cost to making the wrong move, so you don't end up frantically mashing and it keeps the tactical feel.

The biggest issue is that it felt like I could go on forever at my average pace, except every 10 or so there was an especially hard level which got me close to losing. So most of the time I felt like I was doing really well, but eventually I got a level that was a lot harder and lost, seemingly randomly. It didn't feel like doing well on previous levels helped at all.

besto 2020-04-26 21:32

i would love to see more on how you generated the puzzles, it works really well and hardly ever has any that dont require at least a little thinking to solve. great work as always

masterpose 2020-04-27 02:22

I don't know what else to say, it's just a masterpiece. It's fast, adictive, the graphics and sounds works perfectly. You have 5/5 stars in all the categories except maybe from the theme that personally I don't see it so clear, but apart from that 5/5 excellent game!

chuchuw 2020-04-27 11:15

This is the first time I'm having fun with a sokoban-like game :) Congratulations !

notan-lemon 2020-04-27 14:59

At first sight I thought this game is too simple to be fun. But after giving it a try I noticed this is really addictive. By adding time limit to the classical sliding puzzle, you made this game something different. Also I love the art style. Well done!

alexrose 2020-05-02 01:00

managore, I hate you, you've done it again. I wanted to not love this, and yet I do. The timer.. was PERFECT. I mean, perfect. Like, the number of times I'd finish a level a split second before the timer ran out was astounding. It was just the right amount of time. This is now the definitive Ice Puzzle game. (I have played this game 3000 times in ludum dare before but somehow this is the first game to do it well).

puppetmaster 2020-05-02 10:16

As always great to see how you can create such a great game with very little. Gameplay is nothing new and the theme could have been integrated even better. One can always learn a lot from you in terms of minimalism.

dps2004 2020-05-03 17:55

oh my goodness this so so much fun! I'm a huge fan of sliding block puzzles, and this hits all of the checks. The sound design is great too! My high score is 22.

danilo-bezerra 2020-05-03 21:28

Beautiful graphics, nice effects, fun and so simple that I didn't even had to read the instructions.

I'm really interested in the procgen algorithm you build to generate the puzzles!

Congrats!

yxmx-rsx 2020-05-04 22:46

Very simple yet effective mechanic, easy to pick up and understand the goal. The timer and feedback add a lot to the game. Well done, it's a solid entry.

alex-adedge 2020-05-05 14:54

Very slick and oddly enjoyable. Theres a ton of things you could have added, but of course in its simplest form its very effective. Nice work with the procedural generation too, I can mostly imagine how you would have done it, but the execution is really solid. I think the 2 things that came to mind that I would add are some kind of special level at the start, maybe with some entrance gate or statues or something. And some kind of special bonus in the first few seconds, so you get some special feedback when you really nail a level!

cdunham 2020-05-07 02:52

Cool game, procedural levels and the score system make it very replayable! If there was more time I'd say adding different obstacles for harder levels would be really cool! As it is though its very nice.

fatpenguin 2020-05-07 15:57

How the hell did you get so much feedback and almost no votes for others? 0: LD is weird.. anyway, nice game and cool graphics :)

terry 2020-05-08 03:38

Finally got to this one on my list

Best score 34. Really solid, as always!

waynetron 2020-05-08 03:38

Finally got around to playing this. Really really great. The interactive title screen is a work of art.

A web version would sit really nicely on the itch page. Just saying ;-)

nunoribeiro 2020-05-10 18:58

Nice work here. The time limit added a sense of hurry that I found really enjoyable (and that most games like this don't have it), I was always trying to move fast and do quick decisions and that backfired sometimes because all I had to do was look at the level with attention. Very fun game!

zubspace 2020-05-10 19:33

I really like this game! Such a nice concept and the game really lives up to its name! I love how it gets harder and after a while you really start to see patterns how to progress. But time pressure really pushes you nearer to the end from one level to the next, which is a great feeling!

I also love the simplistic art style. The screen shake and sound effects are perfect and the controls simply work. You did a great job with the procgen, too. Well done! It's a great time waster :)

adrinaline-zubspace-highscore.jpg

brachistosauro 2020-05-10 19:59

It's nothing really innovative or new, but extremely well put together and polished. The level generation is impressive - before reading the description again I was sure they were be hand-coded

igor-kingamer 2020-05-13 04:06

Curiously, my best was 46 haha =D
