Like @physiker2001 said, for a 1st game jam entry it's a solid one.
It's a shame you've decided to go with a simple `Don't let the character die` interpretation of `Keep it alive` theme.
Good entry! The art seems polished and the little tune was catchy and energetic. The jumping sound was a little loud and obnoxious after the first jumps, but bearable :)
I didn't like the hefty camera sways when changing firections. It was hard to navigate the jumps when the camera flips out like that. I didn't really see the theme (aside from the 'don't die because it's a video game' logic) though.
There was something with the key icons at the top that I didn't really get. 'A' seemed enabled while the other two were greyed out... but I could use them all. Strange! I found a gem and the game was reset... Was I missing something?
Solid entry nontheless!
Hey it's BenBonk, I don't know if you remember me from the last ScoreSpace Jam. I really liked this game it was a super solid platformer. I loved the art, chiptune music, and how well polished it was. Sometimes I wish the camera was a little bigger and I may have encountered a glitch or two, but still it was a blast to play! Great job.
hehe, I like the looks and the sound and it's all in all a nice game. But I have to say the controls are a bit difficult, my brain just can't adapt to go left and right with a and d and jump with space. I think it would have been easier use arrows and space (or/and arrow up) or add the w for jumping. aaah, i want to play more but it is really difficult this way.
The buttons at the top make a great addition to the interface
You could have told me about the double jump in the first stage, at first I thought it's impossible :D
I also found it very aesthetically pleasing and enjoyed the music, but really struggled with the limited view and sudden camera movement. I also kept getting sent back to the beginning even without falling and never found a gem... but that's probably just my incompetence.
Good game, only problem is camera, also level parts aren't different enough, so i don't know if after collecting gem, it was new or the same level
The moving and jumping feel good! I just wish the camera was zoomed farther out. A few times the level restarted itself even though I didn't die, is there a hidden timer or something?
From the title I was hoping that it would be a game where I had to save my keyboard from wear and tear by not pressing the buttons very much. Instead, I feel like the implementation of the theme was on the weak side. But not a bad start from a platforming perspective.
The keys on the top is what you have to save... If you stop moving you'll see they start getting sad and eventually die. So you have to complete the level before the highlighted keys die. The trailer video will explain that in it.
The game works well and looks nice. It's not the most innovative but still fun! I like the music. The bissgest issue was the camera. It looked cool but made me feel dizzy.
Good job for your fist jam. Jumping while moving was a bit weird at times but I had fun playing this ! :)
Actually this is my FIRST Ludum Dare jam, I've participated in other game jams before :D
You did a good job in some aspects of the game while others could use some improvement.
Good job on - The player movement animation - Implementing Coyote Time - Color pallet - Sound effects and music - The A, D and SPACE art
Would suggest - Moving the A, D and SPACE keys to the bottom of the screen. Because the player is often going up, they block precious screen real estate - The viewport could be further away (i.e. camera less zoomed in) - Having the player fail a jump because they "bumped" into a platform never feels good =(
Overall, well done!
The game looks amazing!, art and music was were nice!. The game-play camera follow felt just a little to strong. And could never finish the game because my character always got like stuck in mid air. You should look at that issue, Overall Nice entry.
Cool idea, the game looks really great, with cute animations and awesome color pallette! I like how you can view what's below or above you but I do think the camera moves a little too fast when you move. And it would be better if the camera was a bit zoomed out
