Good concept, I like the audio and graphics but it's maybe a little bit too long to get money
@SoulPixel agreed! I removed 2 links and 3 lines from this page, thanks for pointing that out!
The game was interesting to play and I liked the political statement it was making (regardless of whether I agree with it or not). I thought waiting for the money was part of the experience, to understand the long wait these people have to go through, so I didn't think there was anything wrong with it, since the mechanics in general weren't the main focus of the game anyway.
I enjoyed the music a lot, and it was visually appealing, and I thought the pixel art fit well with the low poly world. Unfortunately I do have to point out that I couldn't understand the final picture at the end, I have no idea what it was portraying. The story (with the name of the character, or was it all just a dream, etc?) was also something I didn't exactly understand.
I'm also curious, is there any way to lose? I only played it through once and I found it interesting that there was no chance of actually having to face the consequences for the fake IDs, or possibly being deported back or something. I was almost hoping to fail at some point! Other than that, I do think it was well made for a small game with a big meaning.
This was a really solid game, for sure. The theme, humor, and mood of it was definitely the strong point of it, and the music was also really good. I do have to say, though, that although the waiting for money to accumulate thing may have been done to emphasize the mood, it actually made it really hard to sit through. Given the nature of how the audience will be looking through these entries, people aren't going to want to sit and wait for a minute while they watch a number tick up, regardless of how it may or may not enhance the message being supplied. I understand the intent, and given a different environment, I may see it differently, but it felt more like an artificial, and un-engaging aspect of the game. Overall though, this was really good.
I appreciate that you made a game which presents a serious real-world scenario, albeit in a lighthearted way. This is difficult to do, let alone in a game jam. Overall, I thought it was well-done!
I agree with @cttfow that the game could have been more interesting if there were consequences or risks involved (such as for forging IDs, or selecting a new name when moving). As is, the gameplay is pretty linear and predictable, which doesn't reflect the reality of the topic you are presenting.
But I was not bothered by waiting while earning money -- it was not terribly long to wait, and it gave me time to reflect on the game's message, as well as try to learn which countries were which
Nicely done! Thank you for sharing.
I wanted to live on the moon!
Nice conecpt and interesting background.
Was really nice, thanks for developing this game
But if I stole a jacket, why couldn't I live in the South Pole? ;_; Great game :D
I like the subject matter but I don't feel the core mechanic is deep enough to be engaging. The core gameplay loop is move, wait, move, wait. The graphics are great and I really like the dialogue. Bonus points for making something that conveys how you feel. I really liked the simulation of watching the planet go around the sun and the moon going around the planet and having the salary earned be based off the lunar cycle. Good job!
Awsome! Really awsome game! (For the way it tells the message)
I was expecting a plot twist in the end, namely Ethan is actually not the country of freedom at all, that's just what it's pretending to be... But I guess that would have been a little too pessimistic.
The waiting was okay, it wasn't overly long just to add length to the game. What could have made the game a little less linear was to include special events, like it's more difficult to go to some countries (there's a wall) and you need extra things equipement, or to have found a group of people like you, or events where your forgery doesn't work... etc... You probably don't like those ideas, I just tried to imagine ways of breaking the monotony. :P
Anyway, great job!
The game is interesting, although it seems to try do a political statements. What the game is missing: - special events or some other kinds of actions - a way to lose the game
It attempts to give a message, for some part it definitely gives it out, but the lack of negative impact make it surely seem like a dream.
A seriours game, I appreciate.
