LD44 — Your life is currency

Currency delivery by pcmaster 2019-05-01T18:48:14Z

Controls on keyboard work, it's just that you input the direction you want to go rather than steering, so it takes time getting used to.

It's pretty neat, I could see it used in schools. The currency symbols making the pattern for the grass is a nice detail.

Currency delivery by pcmaster 2019-05-01T19:15:54Z

To be fair I did my dirt and grass texture in 10 minutes, simply by creating solid green and brown squares in Piskel, then wiggling around the lighten tool a bunch. But I like your workaround better, it makes a texture that's much more fitting, than a very nice but generic texture.

Entity Manipulation by JCMonkey 2019-04-29T18:24:14Z

Very cool puzzle game! I really like it.

You should've added a Label with the best score possible for each level.

The Haunting of Jonathan David Jones by Archimagus 2019-05-15T22:04:16Z

Great audio and pretty good visuals, it really has great atmosphere. I think the lighting could benefit from being toned down though, the lights / bloom effect were overly bright for me.

Giving the player the story and letting them find the related items (as opposed to giving them items in the environment and letting them piece together the story like other games do) is intriguing, I'm curious where you would've taken this concept if you had more time. Pretty good work overall.

Unpredictable dungeon by Pete 2019-05-10T21:16:47Z

Unsure how it fits the theme, but it's a really good shooter. The player moves a bit too fast and the door are hard to see, gray on gray, but that's about the only complaint I have and they're pretty minor.

In my opinion the slow enemy bullets feels great, it feels like you're playing a 3D bullet hell rather than a shooter. Good job!

Try to live by Remicy 2019-04-29T22:45:37Z

Great work! The tip is really useful.

I'm not sure if it's a bug, but when you buy too many "Upgrade Air Tank" and "Upgrade Water Tank", they replenish themselves rather than drain at a slower rate.

Dead Frog Tell No Tales by pixelstuff 2019-05-05T19:43:09Z

Great work! The concept is really interesting, there's so much more that could be done with it, without a 72h time limit I mean.

Also found a tiny bug where if you run out of time in the middle of a story, the bard frog will start singing from whatever step you were, instead of starting back to the first step.

Lifeblood Arena by svntax 2019-05-03T20:30:08Z

It's a very well executed, with nice graphisms.

I think everybody's HTML5 export with Godot has been experimental, I've played one game so far where it wasn't broken, haha.

300 Hearts for Escape by invader 2019-05-10T21:22:16Z

Very good game, very polished too. I generally don't like trading games either, but you get the hang of what's a good price for each item rapidly, the pacing is pretty much perfect for me.

Zoltan's Idea by Fanu 2019-04-30T21:31:21Z

The face of that cat on the first picture is already a 5/5 in humor.

In all seriousness, very fun game, the minigames were a bit of a weak point, being too easy, but I had a great time! Made me realize how badly I want a WarioWare game where all the minigames are cats being buttholes.

Zoltan's Idea by Fanu 2019-04-30T23:06:36Z

@fanu Not yet! Though I learned the hard way with Crypt of the Necrodancer I have no sense of rhythm, so I'm a bit less enthusiastic playing the Rhythm Heaven franchise now.

Life Merchant by Webox 2019-05-13T22:18:03Z

This is one of the best take on the theme I've seen so far, I like you have reasons to choose to lose money and life (well age), and an overall pretty good game. I have one question though : can you interact with signs / how?

Pretty good work!

What do YOU want? by Ever 2019-05-03T23:56:39Z

Oh hey, other French people!

That's a great game! My only suggestion would be, when you're low on one essence, having increased chance of getting an offer that gives that essense. But that's a really minor complaint, this is very well made on every aspects.

DISREGARD LIFE, ACQUIRE CURRENCY by notb 2019-05-01T11:27:35Z

Great game! I'm discovering PICO-8 with these entries and I must say all of the games I've seen made with it look good. The star map idea in particular was really cool.

There seems to be an issue though : merchants disappear when leaving the area of a star, so when a merchant spawns right at the edge, they disappear in the middle of the screen rather than offscreen.

Wu-Wei by luckyDaisy 2019-05-12T23:39:57Z

I think you're selling yourself short on your level design, "Plan your escape" in particular is quite creative.

It's a pretty good platformer overall, very hard for my taste but not unfair for those who like more hardcore difficulty.

Aipi The Little Fire by Rikun 2019-05-02T16:07:46Z

That's a really neat game with very nice art, though I think making the damage increase the less health the player has (rather than decrease) would have been better, so struggling players have a better chance of bouncing back. It also gives an interesting choice between playing it safe or voluntarily taking damage to increase your attack.

Coin Platformer by sillyman987 2019-05-03T20:17:48Z

You generally want a collision box or something on the left to prevent players from falling off the level.

For the rest that's good work, the movement feels really good!

The Sanguine Fight by Sodaro 2019-05-10T21:11:35Z

It's a bit unbalanced, stab are difficult to land while shots clean enemies with little risk, but otherwise it's very well made.

UnderBreak by MlleAB 2019-05-04T00:23:19Z

It's pretty well done, I would just suggest picking a different font to make the text easier to read.

This is really impressive you managed to do this much in that little time.

Life Path by kristinnes 2019-05-01T15:07:32Z

This is really cool. The events don't change based on age so you end up with what I imagine to amuse myself, a 5 years old not seeing his family for weeks or being fired from his job.

MoneyBag by Chameleon 2019-04-29T14:40:50Z

That's why mine ends with "-1". To be honest I just haphazardly entered the first name that crossed my mind two hours before submissions ended, haha.

MoneyBag by Chameleon 2019-04-29T15:21:55Z

Thanks! I initially wanted to make the bag pop but i was short on time and didn't want to tempt fate.

MoneyBag by Chameleon 2019-04-29T17:20:39Z

Thank you! I tried learning music composition but really can't get to even make a short track. Maybe next time I'll be competiting in Jam instead and opt-out of Audio, but I wanted to test myself on Compo.

MoneyBag by Chameleon 2019-04-29T20:57:16Z

Thank you everybody!

I actually knew about the viewport Strech and the "Export with Debug", my HTML export died at the last minute and in the panic I forgot the set them up when exporting for Windows. I oopsed :slight_frown:

MoneyBag by Chameleon 2019-05-01T17:28:25Z

Thank you everybody for your kind words.

@kaisean-games I assume you're talking about the second bonus, if it's not bugged you need to finish the previous screen with 120 coins and not get hit (You're defeated if you reach 0 coins, so 100 ins't enough as buying the bonus would get you to 0).

That's bad design on my part, since you can't respawn to the previous screen if you accidentally start it with 100 or less, I should've made it so the enemy stop shooting once you're down to 120.

MoneyBag by Chameleon 2019-05-03T20:23:03Z

Thank you for your feedback everybody!

Truth be told I'm just bad at coming up with puzzles, that and the time limit are why there is so few levels. I don't regret giving it a try, it was very interesting to try something unfamiliar.

Weapon Draw by Niteb 2019-04-29T15:39:38Z

I would've prefered if you get better odds of dropping a good weapon the more HPs you gamble, but I really like it!

Cellvelution by TrueDima 2019-04-29T21:26:52Z

That's not the issue. I've downloaded your source, and I think the problem with your script, is that you're using a RigidBody and adding +10 speed each frame. I think what you wanted to do was set the speed to 10, so it always moves at 10.

Also there is nothing resetting the speed to 0 when no key is pressed.

Anyway, you can somewhat control the character by briefly tapping the direction in which you want to move and let it drift.

Cash Clash by tomatenbrei 2019-05-13T23:08:51Z

Great take on the theme and a very interesting concept, I feel like this could work very well as a turn-based strategy game too. One small suggestion I'd make is adding 2 seconds or so of invicibility at the start of the game, while you figure out where you are since some spawn points are close to one another.

Great work!

LIFE Corp by pl4typus 2019-05-16T01:52:33Z

Pretty neat game, I like the visuals and audio a lot, and the concept would be interesting for a game with more levels. Pretty good job!

The camera doesn't check if it goes beyond 90° vertically, so you can accidentally flip it upside down - that's probably the issue @webox encountered.

Escape from Hell by Becher 2019-05-01T01:15:50Z

Very neat submission, the forest zone art looks really good. My only gripe was that your character has a lot of inertia and is fairly hard to control.

Shroom Bois by Torculus 2019-05-12T23:58:12Z

Great atmosphere, you've got a lot out of your lighting, it really makes the look of the game.

Very good entry!
