LD42 — Running out of space

Apparatus by JustinMullin 2018-08-13T14:42:00Z

Nicely made. The visual style is quite polished and cohesive, the menus work well, and I didn't find any bugs during my play time. The game fits very well into the idea of "running out of space," you are forced to manage where you place things. The sound effects are simple, but they didn't need to be anything more.

I'm not a huge fan of the movement. It feels sluggish and I would sometimes walk a tile too far and would have to take a step back. I also got stuck in the progression of the game because I didn't have enough electronics for the electronics maker, so I had to restart.

Anyways, it's a really well-made game. Great job with it.

The game isn't super exciting. It's pretty repetitive and there doesn't seem to be much to it except just dragging from left to right. The graphics are fairly plain, but the pictures get the point across of what the items are supposed to be.

I did really enjoy the "Next Customer" sound. And scanning the same item 30+ times to rack up a huge bill is entertaining.

The ambient music really gives a mood of relaxed and the theme of space. Good job with that. I like the style, the 2 color scheme goes well with the music. And that screen effect is quite cool. Controls feel good. The inability to see around the planet bothered me at first, but I got used to frequently circling around to check.

Weirdly, the menu at the end gets a little slanted if your moving, and the effect is more noticeable the faster you are going. This isn't really a "game-breaking" bug though.

Overall, good job with this!

It's well made, the physics are right and the movement is good. However, I don't feel like the double jump is that useful, I don't get any extra height from it. Also, I wish the gameplay actually took up more the screen, it's weird how your character and everything you do is so small.

The art is really good, I love this pixel art style. Great job with that.
