LD33 — You are the Monster

Subject Status: Alive! by Flatgub 2015-08-24T00:28:00

This was amazing! I really felt like a blobby science experiment, killing those nasty white-coated torturers! Well done!

LD42 — Running out of space

Disaster at Starbase 7 by rjhelms 2018-08-13T03:50:43Z

I figured everything out, eventually. I actually really like a game that dumps you in and says "go", especially when it has these clear-cut rules that also fit in with the theme of the game. "Shut off the reactors that are ripping open spacetime", got it. So to find them, go where spacetime rips are gathering. Makes sense!

The game itself is really neat, too. I love an old-fashioned shooter dungeon every now and then, and this delivered. Really neat.

Mismatch by Certainly Canyon 2018-08-14T04:01:16Z

My mouse clicks failed to register sometimes. That makes it kinda stressful to play a time-sensitive clicking game. Maybe it's just a Godot glitch? I haven't messed with mouseclick code much yet so I dunno.

Anyway, it's a neat little game, I like it! The music is great and helps you get into a rhythm, and the concept is simple enough that I could probably lose at least a few minutes to it.

Panic Dungeon !! by ArnoChux 2018-08-13T02:30:24Z

One tip I'll give: You really shouldn't put fake press quotes on your game page, joke or not, especially if you're naming real press sites. It might get you in trouble...

Now, about the game. It's cute! Reminds me a lot of Pikmin, actually. The guys are really hard to keep alive for longer than five seconds, since they all move in a blob. Every time I spawned, one would instantly die in the lava pit right next to them. Overall a neat little entry with a lot of heart. :)

Pick up space toys! by panda 2018-08-13T01:16:32Z

This was really cute. Your kids are lucky to have parents like you. I mean, come on, I would have LOVED a personal ball pit as a kid!!

The only thing I didn't like in this game was the music. A painfully basic measure that loops quick and sounds borderline painful on its first iteration. But I liked everything else!

Gravity Well by Arch 2018-08-13T02:18:53Z

Okay, this is one of the best ones I've played yet. It's got a listenable soundtrack, comfortable art, and a tutorial that didn't hold my hand. This is really good. Be proud of what you made. :D

The Vacuum by DragonSlayer03 2018-08-13T01:05:53Z

This seems... really unfinished. I find it hard to judge based on that. Sorry for the low scores, but this isn't very good...

A Sinking Feeling by Beard or Die 2018-08-14T03:36:20Z

I'm lost, unfortunately. If the objective is to survive, why can't I? The water keeps going after I reach the summit. Is there some secret cave or something?

Memory Exception by rvenson 2018-08-13T03:33:53Z

This is really neat. I think some balance work is needed, but it's a really cute game. :)

Sky Dare by zchangvx 2018-08-14T03:42:28Z

As many others have said, health being your playspace is a really cool idea. I also really like the theme, "animal spirit quests" are a great game genre IMO. It's also really cool that you have an introduction section. Needing to physically walkk onto the platform and "power it with your spirit" (thus explaining why it's your healthbar) was immersive, and very cool.

My problem though, is with the balance. The first two waves are entirely enemies you kill in one hit and who leave the screen after their attack. Then wave three is entirely enemies that take MULTIPLE hits and stay around you until you kill them? That's a pretty big difficulty spike, I must say. Especially when there are 30 waves after this. It feels fairly cheap...

Otherwise it plays well, and I like the music. :)

OVERLOADED by rainysolar 2018-08-13T02:58:36Z

Very, very funny game. It's rare to see a game that's able to be funny through its mechanics alone, and pull it off so well. I also loved the voices of the passengers, I even heard one or two of them say "Leave me alone!".

Cryptographer by Firebelley 2018-08-13T03:05:49Z

Hey, a fellow Godoteur!

Ohhh my goodness. This is, dare I say, excellent. I think my favorite level (out of the 9 I played, sorry :x) is definitely level 5. Using the death-screaming walls as the only way to finish the level is straight-up brilliant game design. You get 5's across the board from me. Well done. Be proud of this.

Courier Panic! by SeaFishelle 2018-08-13T00:47:31Z

@viater Fair assessment. I thought of the controls as part of the challenge, myself, and my playtesters seemed to agree that they got used to them as their first round went on.

Courier Panic! by SeaFishelle 2018-08-13T14:21:08Z

@serious07 That's by intention. Thank you for the feedback!

@shockeye I kept thinking that too, but to be honest I got tired of looking at my code and decided to release. Thinking back, I wish I had time for an update and recompile before I go to work, but sadly I don't...

Courier Panic! by SeaFishelle 2018-08-16T03:20:54Z

@mccarlp thank you! I've been making games for about 8 years, never having released anything until this jam (and another one a few months ago). So it really doesn't feel like a first attempt to me, more like a culmination of everything I learned so far. A dungeon boss, if you will.

You are far from the only one to dislike the controls, as you can probably tell... I made them the way I did purely by intention, to add to the "panic" described in the title. I've so far learned that it didn't work the way I intended it to...

Where is my place ? by diwo 2018-08-13T02:39:59Z

So, is the game GOING to be finished? Or are you saying it WON'T be finished?

42 Toy by Pavsel 2018-08-13T00:55:47Z

It's alright. There's a bug that prevents toys from spawning if you go back to the "difficulty selection" screen and start the game again. And, is it supposed to end? I got to 100 toys in easy mode before deciding to stop.

ShipIt by cbenoit 2018-08-14T02:59:10Z

It took me a minute to figure out what to do, but once I did the game was pretty straight-forward.

Also, very accurate. I work as a shipper/receiver for a living, and you portray the job almost spot-on. You perfectly captured the utter frustration of boxes just BARELY not being the same size and leaving OCD-aggrivating holes and alcoves, and I love the sarcasm in the line "Everyone loves packing peanuts!" F*** those things. They cling and make a big mess.

I got to the end after about half an hour, and I enjoyed my time. If I were to offer any criticism, it's that a time wait isn't really a huge decentive to using bigger packages. I just filled the screen with them, checked Discord for a minute, and came back to claim oodles of cash. It was more a clicker game than anything, which isn't all that bad, I guess.

@sauski You've got to click and drag one of those bars on the screen, specifically the one on the bottom. It took me a minute to figure out, too, so don't feel stupid or anything.

VoidStalkers by Iori Branford 2018-08-14T03:53:15Z

Feels great, sounds great, and looks great! The art and animations are terrific, same goes for the soundtrack and effects! Gameplay, though...

Well my biggest problem is the hitbox. Once the stalkers had about a third of the screen, it was basically an instant loss because of how sensitive the hitbox is. Graze the void for a split second and you die. Which brings me to my other problem, the respawn time is too long. If you die while a stalker is about to start pulling the void, it pulls it for a good long time before you can respawn. All of my game over's occurred while I was waiting to respawn, and because of problem 1, respawning doesn't matter because of the unplayably miniscule space you have left.

I give so much harsh criticism because I really love the game otherwise. It actually kind of hurts to give it a review like this since I feel like I'm criticising it for what it's supposed to be. But I've got to be fair and honest.

Ransack by Stillnotsure 2018-08-13T00:05:17Z

This game's great. It's got an awesome game loop concept, and it got me invested early on. I loved it.

Foggy raft by dimlight 2018-08-13T04:01:28Z

Really looking forward to playing this. I love treasure-hunting ocean games. Please @ me when you upload a link.

Foggy raft by dimlight 2018-08-14T02:19:16Z

Okay, I've played it. And I love it. This is a great little game. I love the concept of using the very structure of your vehicle as fuel, forcing you to build smart. Your pixel art is also top-notch. This game feels extremely complete.

Save the dudes by jjcp 2018-08-14T03:04:11Z

Hmm. The "dudes" look suspiciously like Lucas from Mother 3. Coincidence~?

Anyway, I think the difficulty needed tweaking. It wasn't immediately clear that the icebergs were melting, making my first few losses rather confusing until I realized what was happening. Some sounds would have helped convey that.

Overall it was a neat little romp. I really like your helicopter, it looks really great.

Ludum Delivery by Korso 2018-08-13T02:51:31Z

This is actually fantastic. I work shipping/receiving for a living, and the SHEER FRUSTRATION of not being able to perfectly fit those DARN BOXES in there perfectly is very well represented here. Very well done.

Aperature XP by Johan Vischer 2018-08-13T00:13:54Z

This is really neat. I like desktop-sims every so often, and I like how Clippy is your tutorial mascot, that's a nice touch.

LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Nuclear Arms 8: Navigate the Hate by Logicon211 2021-04-28T01:59:52Z

This is hilarious. I especially love that it's a recurring series, such an awesome idea. You guys should be proud of yourselves.

The Quantum Menace by freamdev 2021-04-25T20:37:19Z

It's pretty! I'm having a difficult time with it, though. I don't really see the cats very well, and I'm not sure what the point of shooting the turrets is, unless I'm taking damage and don't realize it...

SPEKS - A Murder Mystery by Swordfish 2021-04-26T02:58:23Z

First impression: OOF that text speed is SLOOOOW. It doesn't help that it also prints out all your BBCode tags one character at a time, which kills some of the immersion right out of the gate. That Godot scrollbar (while I get that you can't do much about it) also looks pretty out of place.

That said, I like this a lot! Digging through the story, finding out all the data for yourself, making your own accusations, like a Star Trek themed Ace Attorney game. I'm into it.

Gave it a 5 in Theme for the creative interpretation.

Deeper and Creeper by LillyByte 2021-04-27T01:46:19Z

Very pretty, lots of good graphics and whatnot. But fishy no likey spookgames. :(

Doomino's Pizza by Ryfi 2021-04-27T01:28:17Z

I love how professional this game is. It legit feels like a "top page of Miniclip" kind of release. The music/sound design is great and the premise is hilarious. I particularly love that Satan is a sh*tty regular customer that would get pissy when the new guy doesn't know their usual order, for some reason I really loved that detail.

I, uh, might be *stupid*, though, because I couldn't figure out how to beat the harpy level. Like when I picked up the broken heart and it flew away, some hearts went across the bottom of the screen and I died? Like I may have died to a projectile and not realized it, but it still left me pretty confused.

We Have to Go Deeper! by Scott Steffes 2021-04-28T01:45:42Z

Alright! 28th best in the WORLD!!! ***ALL SHALL TREMBLE BEFORE ME***

Deep space by ancooper 2021-04-26T03:31:20Z

The art's well done, if a tad unoriginal. It's like playing Starbound as Wall-E. The character moves pretty slowly for my tastes, but I'm sure that's intentional. Aside from all that...

what the heck am I supposed to do?!

It's not at all clear to me. There aren't any instructions on your jam pages or in the game, other than basic controls. I open up the things on the ship and see moving dots that don't seem to be affected by my inputs. Then I'm told "the antenna got too loose, game over".

I'm sorry, but I didn't end up liking the game. If I were in your place, I would probably update your description to be more... *descriptive*.

Hey, Wake Up! by SeaFishelle 2021-04-26T03:04:21Z

@turkey Thanks! I tried to do that with the increased rate of sleep as you get further, but I don't think it's super noticable until you're closer to 100 jewels. I should have made that more clear. Thanks for playing!

Hey, Wake Up! by SeaFishelle 2021-04-26T03:05:06Z

@WizKid I appreciate the feedback, thank you!!

Hey, Wake Up! by SeaFishelle 2021-04-26T03:36:51Z

@doc-kaos And thank YOU for playing it! Have a wonderful day!

Hey, Wake Up! by SeaFishelle 2021-04-29T15:44:08Z

Wow. I was stuck at 17 ratings for three days, put an ad on the main page half an hour ago, and come back to 4 new ratings. The power of advertising, it works, folks!

@zerocomms oof, sorry about that. I did some work to make it more viable (like forcing a can to spawn every 4 spawns), but I should have done more. Thanks for playing!

@PBG That's a good idea. I was mostly concerned with "just getting something done and out the door", but I probably could have added at least one more mechanic. Thanks for playing!

@escapade Those are some awesome mechanic ideas I wish I had over the weekend. Running is easy enough to implement, after all. Thanks for playing!

@Vicco I have a habit of building deceptively tough-as-nails games, haha. I personally love the rush of last-second clutch saves near the 100-gem mark, but to each their own, I suppose. (I could have probably made it a bit more interesting in the beginning, though.) Thanks for playing!

DRILLER by glitchman 2021-04-26T03:22:36Z

This almost seems like it was made for me. I **LOVE** getting lost in heavy fogs in games, looking for things, trying to trek my way back to a safe point from the middle of nowhere. I'm also a HUGE sucker for low-poly model work. The gun is beautiful and the spinning gear on Driller was a nice touch.

Two issues: The lack of SFX was kind of a bummer (even a background droning would have made things 10x cooler!) and the lack of crystal trees in certain directions made it *extra* difficult to navigate. I imagine it's procgen, so I get it, but maybe some algorithm to make sure there was a tree for every X mmiles would have been better.

But that's it, I gave this game a big score. You practically put me there on that planet. I felt lost in a good way for a little while and it's my happy place. I want to see this improved on.

Ventil Of View by ArtoniX 2021-04-26T02:44:03Z

This is SO COOL!!!

When I turned that valve and the *room* turned, you immediately had my attention. I was hooked. Then the notes about the monster everywhere kept me searching, and I totally ignored the warning about staying away from the wall.

I'm like, mentally trying to come down from this. You've got a gem here. Please nurture it. It's great.

The Story of little Fishi by philipprapp95 2021-04-27T01:55:28Z

This was SO CUTE!!! I also really love the idea of playing as a school of fish, with boids to control your fish around a central point. You should nurture that idea. Make it into a proper game. ~~not that I'd be biased in favor if a game about fish or anything~~

Goblin Heist by Halberd 2021-04-27T01:35:23Z

I love me a good dungeon puzzle. This is a thinker, too! I got myself on the leaderboard *patpat on back*

Nostril Navigator by Xenon27 2021-04-26T03:10:44Z

Heehee, cute and humerous. Controls work fine and the art is pretty darn good.

Problems, though... for one, the endlessness isn't a great idea. There's no sense of progression, not even a score to keep track of where you are, it left me feeling kind of like an empty nostril afterward.

I also ran into a bug where boogers were only reducing nosehairs *some* of the time. You may want to look into that before bugfixing time is up.

Crypto-mine Disaster by Doc Kaos 2021-04-28T01:57:04Z

Was pretty tough, but I enjoyed it. c:

ld48: no-eyes by sesemcc 2021-04-26T02:50:12Z

I... have no idea what's going on here. Can you add some more detailed instructions? It's not very intuitive...

Deep into the vibe by Ariorick 2021-04-26T02:29:46Z

Very pretty game. Good music, too. And as a game, it's a great proof-of-concept. But I didn't have much *fun* if I'm being honest, it's a pretty slow-paced game of "dodge me" and the rate of randomness doesn't seem to have any logic to it whatsoever.

I did really like how you "spun" new layers in. That's some great rhythm game design right there.

Earth Cannon地球大炮 by Elmando2333 2021-04-26T02:35:02Z

This is a super cool idea for a game! I'm... not sure I like the execution much, though. You can't see droplets as they come up, so it's hard to line yourself up. And because you're not controlling the character (just their direction), I didn't feel like I had enough agency or control to actually go get those memory drops.

The effects and art are good, though. And like I say, the idea is super neat.
