LD42 — Running out of space

Demonologist by Ghen 2018-08-13T08:26:48Z

The lore really added a lot, I wanted to know more about the world by the time the game was done. I like the heat mechanic but you don't really have much control over it, it seems like all you can do is kill everything you walk into and pick up the water. A second attack option that uses more heat would be interesting, to give a bit of choice on how you spend your temperature. I liked the totem mechanic, could have done with some visual feedback to show when you're destroying it.

I'll give it a go on Rift, sometimes these things work without even having to port it at all

Can confirm it works just fine on Rift! Great work, also this is genuinely annoyingly catchy music

I thought it simply wasn't going to clear my lines... What you went with is so much better, really unexpected and it's still a playable game. For 2 hours work this is nuts by the way

Elevator Crush by SprovGames 2018-08-13T11:19:00Z

The combo feature really improves this a lot, I went from kinda bored to really engaged once I noticed it. Graphics are simple but the changing backgrounds get the job done

Vain by Tudvari 2018-08-13T08:12:57Z

I like the surreal world, it definitely feels like you had a lot of ideas about what you wanted everything in it to mean. The platforming felt like it had a few leaps of faith which typically aren't fun, usually when you had to do something with the raven form. You could try and pull the camera out when you use the bird so you know where's safe to land.

The level reacting to the music was a nice touch! Oh and the developer comments actually got a chuckle out of me

First of all this is really nicely polished, but like the others say the random selection between moving things left or right is pretty awkward, I think you should try to find a more rewarding mechanic that keeps the game challenging.

Tiny Garbage Man by Fryderider 2018-08-13T12:13:48Z

I love this one! I was really impressed with the sound design, the impact noises of each prop were really believable. And once it's nearly game over it's really fun just knocking the 100s of items around. Great job

Reductor (LD42 Comp Entry) by ConorOD 2018-08-12T23:53:34Z

Taking out those centipede enemies is really satisfying and I like that the powerups feel genuinely powerful. Only real criticism is not enough variety with the sound effects, that one explosion sound in particular gets overused a bit.

Weapon Warehouse by ConnorThompson 2018-08-13T12:04:17Z

Not sure if I just got unlucky but I was getting orders way faster than boxes were spawning, so there wasn't anything I could do to play the game better. I like the art a lot though and it's a nice idea on the theme.

Uroboros Initiative by hierarch 2018-08-12T23:44:41Z

I'm trying the hosted version in Chrome and I don't seem to be able to place any spacers, am I missing something obvious?

MASTER OF POWER (vs jealous villagers) by randdir 2018-08-13T11:23:29Z

The mood and music are great. Gameplay's simple but charging up your ball is a nice additional consideration

Plenty Of Junk by Verbante 2018-08-13T07:55:02Z

This is such a cool movement system, it really makes you think about the level completely differently. Works surprisingly well too considering how much it relies on physics and moving geometry.

Hey, when I try to unzip the RAR I get an error, try reuploading it maybe?

WHELM by Ethan Nachreiner 2018-08-13T08:07:06Z

This is great man! The gun feels really powerful and the "clear" technique is satisfying to pull off just in time. It's a cool take on the theme too. The glitchy visuals won't be for everyone but I personally love them, super unique and you applied it to everything, not just the menu.

One criticism is about the timer combined with the locked doors. I think these two things COULD work together with a bit of tweaking but as the AI likes to hide or get stuck in corners sometimes I lost quite often just trying to find the 1 remaining thing to kill. Apart from that I really enjoyed it, probably the best I've played from the comp so far

Invaded Space by jessifin 2018-08-13T01:12:10Z

This is really interesting, it's like you took the wraparound screen from asteroids and showed us what that would look like from the pilot's perspective. Loved the way you handled the transition into it

Ransack by Stillnotsure 2018-08-13T00:35:40Z

No idea what's going on with the form because I definitely didn't specify Mac/Linux versions and I definitely DID add the source code. Bear with me, will add the ports once Unity's installed the exporters.

@udo @paulstraw @tuism I __think__ I just finished the OSX build, I've got no idea if it's working alright but if you wanted to take a look it's up on Itch now

Also for everyone who's played, thanks so much for the kind words :)

Terraforming Cookie Tower by Erendelous 2018-08-13T07:49:08Z

It's a really cool take on the theme. Only 1 life feels a bit harsh considering the random AI, sometimes you just get unlucky.
