Fantastic game! It's fun to play and has a good aesthetic. Even the photos look great, I was excited to play before I launched it. My only complaint would be that the screen shake was a little too extreme for my tastes.

Taking out those centipede enemies is really satisfying and I like that the powerups feel genuinely powerful. Only real criticism is not enough variety with the sound effects, that one explosion sound in particular gets overused a bit.

jcmonkey 2018-08-12 23:57

the screen shake after staring at a screen for the past week end made my eyes water lol. the game was fun to play, and i love the fact that you can actually fall off the map.

pretty addictive, The screen Shake is a little rough though! I might keep this one on my desktop to kill some time with.

Holy sh!t this game is great. Great artstyle, great concept, great playability. The only real critisizm I could give is work on the sounds (some death sounds are REALLY loud :P), decrease the screen shake and work on game balancing (rapidfire upgrade is by far the best, clustershot is decent but the spreadshot could sometimes feel like a bad upgrade because of the decreased rate of fire (maybe keep the rate of fire in the middle the same as before, and only make the outer ones slower?)) but I could totally understand why a game isn't 100% balanced after only 48 hours, especially with a game of this quality :D

moltanem 2018-08-13 02:58

As others have said, sounds were a bit loud/grating and the screenshake was starting to hurt my head there towards the end. Good job getting all the systems in place for a game like this in the 48 hours though! Enjoyed the enemy variety and the gameplay. IMO could have been a bit more difficult, I got to wave five before I stopped and never really felt in all that much danger. Nice game!

Wow! I love this, best thing I've played thus far. Very easy to understand. A difficulty setting would be a great update. Balance and polish and I'd probably buy this game. Possible bug, in some cases it looked like I was able to pass over platforms that disappeared without an issue. I only really seemed to fall through when going off the bottom off the screen or too far left/right past the last tile (like a full tiles width). Otherwise, audio was great but maybe a bit aggressive (one of my shortfalls as well).

Great gameplay and very addictive! The gun sounds can get a little bit grating especially when they are firing rapidly but good work!

Really nice entry, solid use of the theme idea and q fun game to play. Really satisfying weapon upgrades, good selection of enemies that behave differently and killing the long centipedes feels very rewarding. As others have said, it needs more variety in the sound effects, but that's a minor thing. Good job!

smithy 2018-08-13 13:20

Very simple way of implementing the theme, the gameplay was fantastic (I am going to play again). Pixel art is good, so are the sound effects. A lot of different enemies and powerups. Maybe to much screenshake

angelofdeath1000 2018-08-13 14:58

Loved it, old school but new. Could have done with some cool retro music and more health packs (or maybe I'm just bad), but amazing game.

noxalus 2018-08-13 19:28

My best score: 48800 (wave 7).

It became really difficult when the game decided to remove tiles at the center of the arena :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Anyway, really good entry, it's impressive to see the amount of content you made in so little time, congratulation

Solid game with really a nice feel. Seemed like good balance for the weapons and good presentation with the UI. The screen shake was a bit much like other has stated but a really polished nice game! Good job

neuralcoder 2018-08-13 20:11

Maybe a bit faster and less shaking. When tiles fall you can improve the 3d look by shrinking and a little motion to the left or right. A very nice aesthetic game.

rombus 2018-08-14 00:13

Got to wave 5! Really addicting game going on here. The different powerups make all the difference, and those take a long time to add in. Congrats on the entry!

zenris 2018-08-14 12:48

Great game, realy like the art. Would be nice to have a timer on the power ups.

5spectra 2018-08-14 22:18

I think it's not possible to win the game I did 70000 score and lost. I missed a good sound track when playing, the game is long and will add so much for this game.

I nice game and concept well executed.

korso 2018-08-15 22:06

Solid game with nice controls and feeling. The different powerups add variety and killing some enemies is really satisfying. I'd have reduced the screen shake though.

Nice job!

agwblack 2018-08-15 22:18

Wow, really fun, just my kind of game. Great variety of enemies, powerups, etc. and hit the theme on the nose. Great art, great sound, well done.

Minor complaints:

Would have loved some 8-bit music with this, could have been amazing.

When using WASD for controls, you can usually have the option to handle the keys by scan code rather than by letter. This means that weirdos like me who use an odd keyboard layout (Dvorak in my case) can still use WASD in the traditional location without having to alter their keyboard layout.

Lost control of the mouse a few times when the cursor went outside the window. Tried to work around this by fullscreening the game (Alt+Enter), but that caused the guy to run off the edge for some reason.

All in all though, probably the best one I've played yet. Nice work.

suchista 2018-08-16 11:19

Wow, this game is extremely well made! Gameplay is great, art is pretty, good job! Maybe with some music would be even better :)

Fun game! I included it in my compilation video series of the Ludum Dare 42 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/8T98Y6n8oZk

velvetlobster 2018-08-16 13:57

Love the balance in the mechanics. Perhaps just too much screen shake so I felt a bit dizzy after playing for a while. When the shots hit its pretty satisfying though, nice work!

designernap 2018-08-17 12:41

I mean, basic visuals and simple audio but DAMN is this fun to play! Very well done! Only suggestions I have is to put the screen shake on enemy deaths rather than every shot and perhaps a timer for the powerups to show you when they run out. Great stuff though. You really nailed how a slightly under powered main weapon can make rapid fire and multi shot powerups feel amazing in comparison. Well done!

superendeg 2018-08-19 10:03

Really fun entry, really nice feedback on weapons and enemies. Definetely will play it some more later.
