LD42 — Running out of space

Too Many Gems by Quetzakol 2018-08-13T13:33:36Z

That was actually quite fun! The concept was quite unique and I liked the artstyle and gameplay! The only thing that kind of bothered me was that if you break a box below another one while holding a move button, you instantly get squashed. Would have liked it if you weren't able to walk in the space of the destroyed block for like .25 seconds so that the other box has time to fall. Other than that, very nice and polished game :D

Your PC run out of space by Listonos 2018-08-12T22:47:32Z

Although I think you will not be the only one having their game focused aruond deleting files, damn you made it look good.

Some possible improvements:

-Support fullscreen resolution

-make destroyed icons fade out, during summer sale you can't see what icons you've hit and what ones you haven't so you just end up swiping your mouse back and forth, because of which the game becomes more luck based instead of skill based

-bad items (AKA items that fill up your hard drive) like a download shortcut or a virus. This way the game also becomes more skill based.

Dope features:

-The looks! (Do I even need to explain?)

-The way the game starts.

-Increased difficulty over time (although the start still felt kind of slow, so you could try changing up the speed at which the "waves" like summer sale etc. pop up

Overall great game :D

Slime Lines by Luis Giron 2018-08-14T13:13:09Z

Really nice game, the music and art is great, and the concept is quite addicting. I think 1 or 2 less colours would have made for a better balance, as the growing of the field is already an obstacle to creating the 5 combo.

Postgirl by Noxalus 2018-08-13T23:37:06Z

The goal of the game is simple and it looks great! I don't really like the functionality of the pickup system though, and I found myself just pushing the crates most of the time as that was way faster. Perhaps giving the player more controll of on what side of the sprite to drop the package (by a bigger amount) could help?

Slime Sumo by bloodyaugust 2018-08-13T23:28:52Z

Quite a simple, but still fun game. Would have liked to see a kill counter or some kind of score other than the waves to show progression more clearly.

Blaze From Outer Space by Iluvatar 2018-08-15T18:00:48Z

Short but fun game!looks and plays nice.

ROOS? by Genpaku 2018-08-13T13:52:22Z

Simple but fun! Like some others have pointed out, it would have been nice to see the shadows increase in size as the blocks get closer and give the game a real look instead of the standard unity shapes. It would also be nice to see the level become more difficult as time goes on. but other than that it's quite nice!

ROOS? by Genpaku 2018-08-13T14:03:13Z

@genpaku then perhaps try increasing the speed in which the level becomes harder? I stayed alive for around 300 "time" but didn't really notice it that much.

Space Depot by Laien Pathfinder 2018-08-13T14:21:08Z

Concept and art are dope, but the collisions really need work... Would be a great game if the colliders were improved :D

Gü hunters by Denneledoe 2018-08-13T14:40:54Z

Quite a fun game, would like to see a longer version of it! I think checkpoint would have been nice after each level and the sprinklers need to be nerfed :P Right now the best strategy is rush into the gü, place a sprinkler and you basically win.

Gü hunters by Denneledoe 2018-08-13T17:23:19Z

@denneledoe I think that even if you were to add that in, they would still be OP since all you would have to do is spray for a few seconds before placing it.

Dont Drop by Dsthedragon 2018-08-13T13:45:17Z

A simple but fun game! Gameplay is nice! A few small things I would change: - The pause button should be docked on the top (it's currently docked and positioned from the middle, this works great in the resolution you tested it in, but on fullscreen it stays that same distance from the middle, and is too low) - Consistency in sound (Music is louder in main menu and restarts when you switch a scene. Check out brackeys's tutorial on his audio manager. Clean and easy solution for consistent sound) - Level 7 and 6 are switched in level select - On level 7 (the one where the button says 7), the camera has a different position than the other levels and doesn't show very much below the character.

This might seem like a lot but they are quite simple, straightforward and not gamebreaking things. Overall the game is good :D

Adware Attack by AdonisDevs 2018-08-13T00:18:27Z

Overall fun game, has a silly vibe which I quite like!

Only thing I didn't really get was how to use the key to crack the harder ads. I clicked the key and then the locked ad and vice versa but I couldn't get anything to happen. Perhaps a better explanation in the book?

Bus Stop Blast by NotSpaghettiGames 2018-08-15T18:44:20Z

Great looking game with good music, and the silly physics work nice. I just wish the game wasn't so buggy! Sometimes there were not enough, or just no kids to pick up on the map while the UI clearly said and believed that there were.

The minimap isn't that usefull and would be better if it covered the whole map.

ReMind LD-42 by EvanM 2018-08-12T23:35:11Z

Some pointers: - the tutorial takes a reaaaally long time (maybe an ability to skip it) - the tutorial didn't really explain that memories at the top fade if not clicked, you kind of have to figure that out by yourself. - off centered text is triggering me :P - very limited options (there seem to only be like 5 memories, would like to see more) - game stays the same difficulty (perhaps increase the amount of memories shown overtime, or make them fade faster)

Although those seem like a lot of negative points, take them as feedback and perhaps inprove on some of them, and your game will become really nice. The artstyle and concept of the game are quite nice :D

doof by JonahSenzel 2018-08-13T00:37:42Z

Although it was kind of short, the game was really cool! The artstyle is really unique and the concept of the game is really nice. Would love to know when more levels are added :D

Reductor (LD42 Comp Entry) by ConorOD 2018-08-13T01:03:35Z

Holy sh!t this game is great. Great artstyle, great concept, great playability. The only real critisizm I could give is work on the sounds (some death sounds are REALLY loud :P), decrease the screen shake and work on game balancing (rapidfire upgrade is by far the best, clustershot is decent but the spreadshot could sometimes feel like a bad upgrade because of the decreased rate of fire (maybe keep the rate of fire in the middle the same as before, and only make the outer ones slower?)) but I could totally understand why a game isn't 100% balanced after only 48 hours, especially with a game of this quality :D

Gretchen's Head by gamebuilder 2018-08-13T14:00:41Z

Great concept, but I felt that the levels were too easy and not really a puzzle. There was only 1 level where you really had to maneuvre between the blocks, but for the rest is was almost always: walk straight to the memory cell and then to the exit, and it worked.

This game could have potential but I think the levels need to be tweaked for it to reach that potential. Still a fun game though :D

(Oh and perhaps a bug, even though I won, it still displayed "game over" along with the win message)

Crash·Data by Jkabuto 2018-08-13T18:59:21Z

Nice game with fitting graphicso. Was fun to play :D

Stone Splinter by Sunblast 2018-08-13T14:13:03Z

Nice artstyle. Increasing the amount of platforms one by one to let the player know how they all work is nice and gradually adds to the difficulty. Feels a bit empty without sounds or music but a youtube video in the background can quickly fix that for me :P

Tunnel Ride by Xyntell 2018-08-12T23:24:37Z

Overall great game, the sound and looks are dope, the only thing I "dislike" is that the side walls don't really have a purpose. As long as you shoot up, you stay alive. You could try speeding up the game if you let a block hit the spikes, because as it is now, this game seems more like a "how fast can you click game".

With some tweaking this could be an amazing minigame :D

Zero G Hero by dave_troyer 2018-08-13T23:58:26Z

The game was quite fun, although the objective was quite confusing due to the contradicting arrows. Some point you to the ship while others to the key location. As someone who just followed the arrows as he saw them, I ended up at the ship and didn't know what to do. (the hole where you need to drop to get the key at first really seems like a hole you should avoid. If you ignore the arrows though, the game plays quite nice and is challenging. The art also looks very clean and really fits the game!

Closing In by Luiza Engler 2018-08-16T22:08:24Z

Overall simple but fun game! The artstyle and the music are great and fit well with the game. The monster collisions could be inproved a bit because I felt that you could sometimes die even when landing on top (corner) of monsters.

Colony by thechubbypanda 2018-08-12T23:25:51Z

Would love to try once it gets released :D

Get Of That Damn Island by LaytanL_ 2018-08-13T00:48:55Z

The overall concept of the game is really interesting, and if there are no bugs, it plays quite nice, but thats also one of the small problems, there are quite a few bugs. Sometimes blocks I would move to would fall, or I could push a crate off the side and glitch under it, but once I figured out "How the bugs worked" and tried avoiding them, the game was really nice :D

Oh and the push sound has a really harsh frequency in it that starts to hurt a while after wearing headphones. Not a big deal but something to keep in mind

Color Run by Adam Pandos 2018-08-14T13:23:24Z

I don't know if it is a bug or not, but I can't run on the walls... It tilts my camera but that's it! Would expect to keep running on the wall (without moving dowwn, or a very small amount) and for my jump counter to reset, both of which did not happen :C

The game looks great but at the moment doesn't seem to work for me.

Color Run by Adam Pandos 2018-08-14T18:25:20Z

So I replayed it now knowing that I have to hold the spacebar, and overall the game is really nice! Good looks, fun to play. There are a few things I would change though: - lock on to walls automatically if you hit them, and jump to get off them, instead of holding jump to stay on. There are many occasions where you try to hold on to a wall but the game thinks I wanted to jump. - Increase the hitbox of the crystal (or add more crystals to the final level). I got to the end of the last level around 6 times before giving up because hitting that crystal feels almost impossible!

No Place To Die by ZephyrExtreme 2018-08-15T18:19:36Z

Overall nice game, although screen shake and bloom were a bit much, and walking felt weird.

I have a question though: Did you really make this (especially the music) yourself and during the time of the event (and not before), because if you have for example got the music from someone else or it was made outside of the competition time, you should have opted out of this category.

If you did make all the music and stuff within the time of the competition, take my doubt as a compliment, if not however, you should opt out of these categories. (Go to my game, edit, and choose the apropiate checkboxes)

The Pit by jelbre 2018-08-13T00:08:59Z

@adonisdevs Thanks, the movement was originally just planned to be done with the ingame physics engine but due to buggyness like getting stuck in walls, I made my own using a ton of raycast checks. It took quite a while to do but it seems like the customizeability I built in and used really paid off :D

The Pit by jelbre 2018-08-13T00:27:52Z

@conorod Thanks :D

@laytanl Kicking a box looks at the box the way you are facing at your feet, and hitting at your head. You need to be close enough and the boxes need to be moveable (moving conditions are baldy explained at the start). If the 1st box that drops is any box other than a silver one, you should be able to kick it (with "L") once it lands. Sometimes, the very first kick/hit doesn't register so try again once the bar at the top is charged again. Other than the 1st hit, it should always respond if the boxes are moveable.

It might also be a big confusing due to there being no feedback if the boxes aren't pushable (too heavy), that was a planned feature that didn't make it into the game due to time.

@listonos I would have loved to implement a kick animation, as well as an actual run cycle instead of what I have now, but I only started the art at 23:00 because of bugs and other things that needed to be done, so I ran out of time. If I would continue to work on my game, those are some of the top priorities :D

The Pit by jelbre 2018-08-13T14:25:49Z

@jackou I wish I would have made the hitbox a bit more visible. at first, when I was just using a square sprite, it made alot more sence when you got hit and when you didn't, but when quickly drawing the character, it was hard to get him to look decent while also completely visualising the hitbox. Thanks for the feedback :D

The Pit by jelbre 2018-08-13T14:25:52Z

@dsthedragon thanks :D

The Pit by jelbre 2018-08-13T17:21:29Z

@gamebuilder This is awkward... you CAN actually jump, I just now because of your comment realised that I forgot to put that on the main screen along with the other controls... anyways, if you would like to try again, the jump button is the space bar :p

The Pit by jelbre 2018-08-15T13:23:09Z

@hunter-towe I wish I could have spent more time on the character, like actual run and jump cycles and a hit and kick animation, but due to my lack of experience and time left I decided to focus on other parts first.

I don't know why the music stopped looping, because it worked fine in the editor :/ Perhaps the loop checkbox got disabled somewhere... Oh well. Player speed should also be a thing that can be changed right in the editor, but I ran out of time to really balance it the way I wanted.

I would have liked to be able to implement a tetris like line destroy feature if an entire row got filled up, and limiting the height of the pit, but, once again, ran out of time :p

Thanks for the helpful feedback :D

The Pit by jelbre 2018-08-16T22:01:48Z

@wolfrug The kick and push are meant as a tool to help you out of bad RNG situations, but there is still RNG involved, so sometimes you can just get unlucky with no way out.

About the crates not falling on the right, I didn't even notice until now, guess I must have messed up while resizing the pit and forgetting to update the grid size :/ It's an easy fix in the editor but I guess it's a bit late for that now :P

Thanks for the feedback :D

Tree Bomb by Cannonperson 2018-08-13T00:05:10Z

The game is quite interesting and kind of addicting! The style is nice and gameplay feels good, although I would like multiple difficulties, because in my run, the first 3-4 minutes were really slow. Floating platforms are also really hard to hit, so perhaps have multiple bomb types, one of which is sticky (but costs 2 regular bombs for example)

Really enjoyed it :D

Compression by JohnyF 2018-08-13T18:49:24Z

Quite a fun game, although I wish it was a bit longer than it is... Although the glitchyness increasing as you lose lives looks incredibly good, it doesn't play very nice. Every time it got too bad I just walked into the wall until it reset. I think it would fit better if the levels were bigger/harder and instead of resetting when you hit a wall, you only get the increased glitchyness effect until you die (and then you DO get reset).

Lab by Kristov 2018-08-12T23:03:16Z

Concept and gameplay is fun, but there are some improvements to be made:

- The way the red blocks spawn is too predictable, they never spawn right above/below/beside you, they always have an offset on both axis. 050cc8ce274d2a2369e7fef85b13676e.png This was done by walking up and down over and over again as an example.

- The looks of the game are cool and have a nice vibe, I just wish the text was more readable.

Overall nice game :D

Boxed by Devio 2018-08-12T23:44:42Z

Game looks interesting, but it's hard to understand without reading what you wrote on this page. It is kind of counterintuitive to have recycle boxes drop automatically while having to click to give the box to the customer. Picking one or the other, and writing this on the main screen next to the controlls would really help.

Once you know how to play, the game is quite fun, although the giving the box to the customer can sometimes be annoying as the range to do so is really small.

Ludum Club- Running out of space! by Snackob 2018-08-14T00:09:54Z

Quite a fun game. Overall played nice, have a few very small pointers though: - Bouncer can get stuck behind people - Some music notes are REALLY big :P - Puking people are really hard to spot compared to fighting people, so perhaps clearer puke animation?

JumpArround by Leave 2018-08-12T23:15:33Z

I quite like parcour games, and combined with the clean low poly looks of the game, I quite liked it.

There is something that I myself would like to see changed/added/considered:

- adding (more frequent) checkpoints. Climbing up the tree is rough, and checkpoints would definately help! (if there are checkpoints beyond the tree, my bad :P)

Overall a great game :D

InkCleaner by neuralcoder 2018-08-13T23:45:37Z

Nice concept but it could definately use some improvements: - Ink sometimes spawns quite a bit away from the original piles and instakills you, perhaps a small time between spawning and killing? - punish player for standing still and spamming space bar (I could stay alive for a very long time without moving) - The game gets quite laggy when you do stand still for quite a while due to ink piles on the edges stacking onto each other (web version, perhaps do a check to see if the place you want to spawn a new ink isn't already occupied by a few other piles?)

Flame VS Water by Taner 2018-08-13T00:32:48Z

The art is really well made and gives the game a nice vibe. The concept of the game is quite good, the fire left behind by the killed enemies really makes the game a challenge. A possible improvement/gamemode could be where the player is able to put out these fires (but because of the time wasted on getting surface area back, more enemies will spawn)

Overall quite a nice game :D

Dont scroll so fast by AlpacaEntertainment 2018-08-15T19:02:33Z

Quite a fun game but you can definately notice that you didn't have alot of time, and the game could be improved on alot.

Music was nice and movement felt smooth. There is a glitch that when you hold the scrollbar all the way down/up (depending on if the level is moving down or up) the game stops moving and you have infinite time to make it to the next platform.

Space Farts by iBalls 2018-08-15T18:27:31Z

Don't know if it's a bug or not (I will wait with judging the game until I get a reply) but I couldn't keep the 2nd door open with the box...

Space Farts by iBalls 2018-08-15T18:56:28Z

I've retested the game now knowing that once the box is on the button, you can't touch the button, and it was quite fun! Character movement was really slow and could be sped up a bit and the monsters don't really do anything dangerous and I haven't even gotten close to getting killed by one, so perhaps buff them?
