LD33 — You are the Monster

Sewer Monster City by bitslap 2015-08-25T00:58:00

Very nice graphics, and the controls are ok for me -maybe a little less gravity and friction would help-. Nice music and mood. One complaint though, I'd add frequent savepoints if the game is so hard.

Separated by rxi 2015-08-24T20:44:00

Graphics are awesome, although some tiles reminds me to Zelda Link's awakening, and the sound and controls are good too. The thing is that these games -for me- need a reason to continue exploring. In 3D is somewhat easier because you can draw an interesting place far away. In 2D you need some history, motive, clue, anything. Look proteus, dear esther... Nice work though!

Dragon Tale: Acquisition by vivavolt 2015-08-24T02:56:00

Very cool! And the music is good too! Have you tried to implement a dual control scheme using mouse to aim and keyboard to fly?

Bridge Dweller by Somfunambulist 2015-08-24T03:26:00

Like the graphics and the mood is good, but you can won only holding LMB (I think that attack is linked to mouse_down instead of mouse_pressed)

Meow! by tiffi 2015-08-24T04:34:00

Cool backgrounds and effects! And the indications are a nice touch. When I reached the final? The level restarted.

Plothole by RedPanda 2015-08-24T16:03:00

Very nice graphics. I hope you continue developing it.

namcaP by Jacob123 2015-08-25T00:48:00

I like your idea, but AI is not good and you can beat the game simply placing two monsters surrounding a powerup pill, so Pacman cannot reach it without dying. (could be corrected if Pacman eats another powerup pill, and them hunts the monsters).

Maze Monster by texus 2015-08-24T17:11:00

With more polishing in level generation and some tweaks to enemies AI, could be much better, but well done! The "compass" is a nice touch!

Oranges In Love With My Fly by ViliX64 2015-08-24T03:48:00

I'll leave the complete walkthrough for tomorrow. Graphics in cutscenes are awesome :D

Passengers by nerial 2015-08-28T18:17:00

I really like the idea, but -in my opinion- needs more interaction in the travel phase. You fit theme perfectly and in an unique way.

Monsters Reversed by kcaze 2015-08-24T05:21:00

Very neat. I also saw the bug GAFBlizzard says, but quite polished apart from this. Nice music too!

Megaworm by micdoodle8 2015-08-24T04:49:00

Very good controls, and the music is good too.

TrippyL by Lovro Kalinovčić 2015-08-24T15:59:00

Reminds me Hotline Miami. I think it would be better with double control scheme with keyboard to move and mouse to aim. The "tutorial" was nice, with only the necessary words.

A Duel with the Devil by Resonious 2015-08-24T04:10:00

I cannot play because a missing dll (VCRUNTIME140.dll)

Player Rush by Hot Box Games 2015-08-29T23:12:00

I'm the first! :D

Good game, very well fitted to the theme. Nice graphics & sound too. I miss two things though: something to recover life when you clear some waves and new abilities/mechanics to kill more soldiers.

Anyway, one of the most polished games I've played in this LD, good work all of you!

Dat Blob by MCPGNZ 2015-08-24T02:20:00

Nice little game! :D.

Good work on the "monster-busters". Have some problems with collisions, but it's playable anyway. I like those sprites, with a couple more animation frames on the humans must look fanstastic.

Tenebris Morte by FerraWare 2015-08-24T23:41:00

Roleplay choose your own adventure! Great!

Billy Goat Grub by ChrisFagan 2015-08-29T23:22:00

Hitboxes works fine enough -for me at least-, but I can't hear any sounds, which is weird because apparently there are according to the comments.

Squatch by patvanmackelberg 2015-08-24T17:18:00

Original idea!

Elegy of the Night by Reisen 2015-08-24T17:04:00

The only thing that I was to object were the assets, but it's a Jam entry. Good Music, Art and history -with a twist-.

Vermy The Vomiting Zombie by Gray Sullivan 2015-08-24T04:40:00

Nice sprites. Warriors could be a little slower, and pathfinding could be better, but OK overall. Reminds me Llamatron :D

Mangiato by Acerio 2015-08-24T04:24:00

Reminds me to VVVVVV more than SMB, frequent checkpoints and aestetics. Good game, but can be much better with more polishing in control & camera. I've seen just before completion that it's only a prototype, so keep going!

Monster House by Korso 2015-08-24T03:14:00

@rampantinsanity

There IS a fast mode, just click F in for activate it in the level! (as I wrote in the tutorial ;)

Monster House by Korso 2015-08-25T00:34:00

@AlariSilver

Maybe you played it and after that not restarted -clicking stop button-?

The game block any movement of the monster once you hit play and until you hit stop to prevent 'cheating'.

Drama in Space by Teekeks 2015-08-24T02:51:00

Love the omnidirectional weapon, but almost all of them are great!

Disastris by TerraCottaFrog 2015-08-24T02:43:00

This is the best game I've played today. Cool mechanics, good use of particles (although the game slows down form me when using multiple tsunami) and very fun.

Lure.Lair.Lunch by daveh 2015-08-24T17:37:00

Good level, I would liked a tutorial, but finally I completed. Nice concept and very related to theme.

Bearzilla by iman1000000 2015-08-24T02:36:00

Very nice! Addictive, polished and with editor. Congratulations! I can't beat 16.133 sec -for now-

Host by Ferret 2015-08-25T00:02:00

Love this game! Good mechanics and good implementation! I only have first level slightly easier, to get the mechanics correctly -or a tutorial-

Abduction by SudoDave 2015-08-24T03:05:00

Cool game, maybe too challenging; those stupid humans are as fast as me :P. The decoys are pretty useful.

Devour by Mattress 2015-08-24T02:31:00

I don't know if it's just me, but I can't eat anyone :(

How cookies ruined my life. by Suese 2015-08-24T02:26:00

Love the graphics -and the music- -and the presentation-. I miss a tutorial or a controls screen. I don't know if I have completed it, but the I kill some guys, They don't come anymore.

Conscience of a Crythrope by pighead10 2015-08-24T20:14:00

The concept is really great. A bit buggy in collision detection for me, but great game overall!

Drain by aeveis 2015-08-24T05:44:00

Best LD33 game I've played so far! Congratulations!
Nice art, music and mood. My only problem is that I can't pass Level 16, and the yellow birds are all full, so I don't know if it's a bug or the final level.

LD42 — Running out of space

Bag of Devouring by Ilseroth 2018-08-13T03:32:54Z

Loved the mood. I miss some more mechanics besides organizing the bag (I don't know if I can do any more than organize the items until the bag is full). The graphics and the animations are the best I've seen today.

Slime Lines by Luis Giron 2018-08-15T23:13:07Z

Nice little puzzle, and a good fit for the theme. The board growing is a good mechanic to increase difficulty, although more colours make a little too difficult for me. As a little complaint, I'd limit the animations for the slimes and maybe the palette used, since you have to watch them continuously during the game.

Good job overall!

SINGULARITY by Syrapt0r 2018-08-13T16:22:12Z

Very solid. The movement feels nice, and the mechanic of collecting cargo and visit planets is really cool. Love the music and the overall design. Good job!

3x3 a tale about friendship by oskarOlausson 2018-08-15T22:21:41Z

One of the most original games I've encountered in this jam. I managed to clear 251 blocks. Nice concept and music too. Some critisicm, if I may. A tutorial showing the mechanics for each piece would be very helpful, as at the beggining you start by choosing the pieces without any clues of how the differents powers may affect the game. Also, the theme fitting seems a little "forced" to me, as the objective is to battle the glitches.

Overall, nice entry, good job and kudos for the originality!

Blockage by ThePelranthean 2018-08-13T01:44:03Z

Very cool concept. Clear rules and easily undestandable. You may use less cubes in the level design, though. In the image, I would need to collect the 36 cubes once, only to discover that I had to discard it one by one and collect some other color to construct a staircase, discard the spare ones again and collect all the red cubes. I think you can think in a similar puzzle design but using 10 or so cubes in total, improving the playability.

Captura.PNG

Overall, I enjoyed it. Good job!

Not Enough Space by urbanhelsing 2018-08-14T18:47:26Z

Love it. Simple to understand and very well executed. Nice physics, and addictive too.

Good job!

.S by torcado 2018-08-13T13:22:51Z

Great idea and design. My only complaints are in line with @pace first suggestion. Gob job nonetheless!

Space Junk Jettison by Mark Smith 2018-08-13T03:49:37Z

Nice graphics and aesthetics. They remind me of Faster Than Light. The movement until you get the boost upgrade could be polished a little.

Nice job!

Cat Lady Simulator by samh 2018-08-14T00:37:38Z

Lovely little game. In the last level some cats caused a jam in one of the refrigerators xD. Good work!

The Backpacker by digitaldude555 2018-08-14T20:18:32Z

Quite an original idea. Need some polish on execution though, but I think you are a pretty solid base for a great game. Some predictable order in how the items in the inventory are used would be useful. The conveyor for the item could be less "flashy", and I think that maybe would be better placed at the bottom for the fluidity of the gameplay. Maybe if the velocity was a bit slower you would have more time to look at what is happening at the top, and then you could add different weapons for different enemies, etc.

Overall, I liked the concept very much, and I think I'd enyoy an enhanced version of this game. Good work!

Swords & Forks by IggyZuk 2018-08-15T23:48:51Z

Liked the concept, the graphics and the simple interface (although I don't now if it's possible to deselect one item on the right). I encourage you to finish it, cause the foundation seems pretty solid.

TINY TOWNS by BearishMushroom 2018-08-16T00:23:08Z

Wow. Fantastic entry, and very good execution. Clever puzzles, simple rules, and fits the theme well. As a very minor nitpick, a shadow showing the area of effect of garbage station and electric plant would be nice, and some sort of highlight for the item currently selected.

Best game I've seen so far in this LD. Very good job!

Best game I've seen so far. Very good job!

Tetroids by CodeChomper 2018-08-14T20:48:18Z

Liked the idea. Definitely chanllenging with the need of aiming while maintaining the ship in the air. Maybe it's me, but I found the difficulty curve a bit too high. A bit after the begginning I was barely able to keep up. Maybe a free aim with the mouse while flying with WASD would soften the difficulty. Good work nonetheless. And the online highscore is definitely a good detail!

GRAVITY by Stellary 2018-08-13T03:05:28Z

Cool concept. I miss some hints of the trajectory, at least its beggining. Personally I'd not reduce the "space" after a collision: the difficulty already ramps with more planets in orbit.

Good job nevertheless.

Crystalmancer by Crowno 2018-08-14T23:46:19Z

Link's Awakening meets Binding of Isaac with a tweak that fits the theme well and very polished. Thats a solid 5 for me. One of my favorites. Although you had me with the pallete change ^^

Very good job!

Rick Dervish - Space Cadet by coldfire83 2018-08-13T00:40:01Z

Pretty good game. I liked the music and the twist of reducing the space, although I feel that some minor changes would soft the difficulty curve. Good job!

Cubed In by Wabble 2018-08-21T20:57:44Z

It's a great idea. Reminds me to Polarium (for DS). I'd change the colours (and hopefully the alpha) of the blocks that are generated because sometimes is hard to see what's behind. Otherwise, it is fitted to the theme and the mechanics are solid. Some polish in level design (although it is not bad, specially with only 48h) and you can have a pretty solid game.

Good work!

Spaceabon by Agecaf 2018-08-13T15:36:50Z

This is the best game I've tried so far in this LD. Good graphics and music, too. The concept is pretty solid and the design and the game in general feels polished. Good work!

MinoFall by Ashment 2018-08-14T18:21:29Z

Very polished game. I am not very convinced of the main mechanic, not being able to determine the movement of the pieces. Sometimes I caught myself shooting repeteadly to the piece trying to get it to a corner. Other than that, good entry, fit to the theme and with very polished art, music and movements.

Well done!

Noninterferance by Dumivid 2018-08-15T22:46:35Z

I was not expecting it. Very original take on the theme.

My actual record (clicking S in rhythm while spawning B, you evil xD) Captura.PNG

Binary Garbage Separation by Nehvis 2018-08-13T17:13:30Z

Nice design. I've enjoyed the game, although an alternative remap for keyboard users would be nice.

Sidestep by Talia 2018-08-14T18:58:51Z

Nice little game. Matches the theme quite well but it becomes boring after a while due to no new mechanics.

As an idea, you could implement a color change in the triangle with spacebar, so the ship so that it is not affected by circles of the same color.

Nice job nonetheless!

Get off my shelf! by OnePlusOne 2018-08-13T13:57:57Z

Great game overall. Feels polished and the controls are intuitive. It is definitely noticeable the time you spent time polishing it on day 2. Loved the physics.

Space Cleaner by Rewzu 2018-08-15T22:31:40Z

Loved the graphics, very cohesive. Simple but solid entry nonetheless. Well done!

Reductor (LD42 Comp Entry) by ConorOD 2018-08-15T22:06:52Z

Solid game with nice controls and feeling. The different powerups add variety and killing some enemies is really satisfying. I'd have reduced the screen shake though.

Nice job!

cargOS by tigerj 2018-08-20T23:26:09Z

Simple and well thought, I like it. I'd prefer a mouse control option, but I suppose that the WASD adds to the overall difficulty. I've think there may be a bug with the snap to grid implementation, but it's enjoyable nonetheless.

Good music & art too!

Falling Ecosystem by sprvrn 2018-08-13T13:11:49Z

Love the style. I only miss some mechanic to restore the first tiles, thus enabling an endless mode. Great use of PICO8 pallete.

Cell Is Win by BetaCat 2018-08-20T23:17:34Z

Original and very good implementation. Loved the balls physics. Nice job!

Spider tank by Blight Radiance 2018-08-15T23:24:45Z

Interesting take on the theme. I was expecting some sort of Into the Breach, given the initial images. I think you could have limited the size of the board while playing more with the different mechanics, although it was in the bigger scenarios when I fully realized the complete range of the jump, that seemed random to me at first.

Level design could be polished, but I like your approach on the theme.

No Escape by JSD 2018-08-14T20:34:26Z

Good work in the cohesive graphics and the animations! I like the idea and fits well on the theme. As a minor complaint, I think that with some work on the camera when aiming at the sides and maybe enabling transparency when the aim is over Goat Guy the gameplay can be enhanced. Otherwise, a solid entry. Congratulations!

PLS Grandma STAPH by Necromic 2018-08-16T14:11:47Z

Cute little game. Loved the graphics, the ending and some little touches like the grandma shadow before the items update. The mechanics are simple but well thought, too. Good job!

The Okinawan Samourai by Voxel Forest 2018-08-13T01:30:33Z

Maybe it's me, but I can't attack with middle button :(

Book Crook! by Ossi 2018-08-20T15:50:44Z

Like the idea, but I think that the mechanics need some work. In my play, I start hovering all the books and selecting them by rarity (color). Some time constraints (or more space constraints) or new mechanics involving swapping books between shelves could enhance the mood (in my opinion).

Liked the little tune :). Good work!

Quatris - LD42 - Running out of Space by KiotiKid 2018-08-13T01:25:32Z

Original and well executed. I personally found it too difficult though, because the lack of hints of where the piece will fall in the other grids.

I think that some shadow pieces in all the four grids indicating where the piece would fall if you rotate the grid would be very useful (similar to Tetris DS). Some animations on rotations probably would help too.

Good job nonetheless!

Don´t Hit The Ducks! by Joloujed 2018-08-14T20:01:11Z

I liked the graphics, music and the idea. It fits well the theme. Not a big fan of the random aim. I think it will be much better if the shot were on target and the aim were moved after that.

42 Pillars of Stone by Furtive Pygmy 2018-08-13T02:15:30Z

Simple concept, but solid enough. I've liked if there were some mechanic to get rid of the corpses, or to use them as a weapon. Good job.

Box Me Up by RustyCrow 2018-08-15T23:34:28Z

Liked the concept and the controls. I missed some UI, specially the height you reached when you lose. Good job!

Arrows by JimmyC 2018-08-13T02:37:23Z

Love it. Simple, quick to learn and good aesthetics. I've tried to "construct" a hut by calculating the trajectory of the arrows to protect me, but while some new arrows cross the old ones, others are blocked. I don't know if it is intended.

SpaceRun by Stoan 2018-08-13T02:23:43Z

Pretty good visuals. A bit too simple, though.

Continuum by Hakro 2018-08-13T13:36:13Z

Good entry. Feels complete and fills the theme. The music and the different faces of Teddy are a nice detail. If you want to continue the developing, a preview of the next arrows would be useful to get a faster pace, and a progressive difficulty with the black hole pressure would be nice too.

Good job!

Ludum Delivery by Korso 2018-08-13T02:10:09Z

@cary-stanley Thanks for the feedback! Since quick fixes are allowed after the submission, I've updated the web version with SPACE and E keys for rotation (besides the mouse).

Ludum Delivery by Korso 2018-08-13T03:27:24Z

@tom7 Thanks for your feedback. I've fixed the bug in the web version. Regarding the difficulty, it is supposed to ramp up with each level (harsher limits for the trucks, larger travelling times, more pieces per time, etc.) But I had not enough time to adjust it better.

Ludum Delivery by Korso 2018-08-14T22:28:07Z

Wow. I did not expected such feedback. Thank you very much everyone!

Although I fixed the small bug pointed by @tom7 and added SPACE and E keys as @cary-stanley suggested, I'll not add other things like more pieces or a button for switching off the music (sorry xD), at least for the Compo. I think this is the spirit of the Ludum Dare. Lessons learnt anyway!

@gaoyuan-chen You were so right about an additional piece. Maybe the 7 you mentioned, maybe an I shape of 3 squares. Mostly it was discarded due to lack of time for trying how it affected the gameplay.

@thepelranthean @hakro I definitely agree with you in the slow pace. If I was not so limited on time, I totally had spent more time tuning it for a little more difficulty, specially at the beggining.

@saoi-games Thank you for playing it! Pretty awesome to see how other people play your game, I quickly spotted some mistakes (of my design) just viewing how you played, for example the lack of difficulty at the beggining, the lack of clear notifications with level changes or how is not clear that you earn extra points for filling completely the trucks. Also, clicking in the indicators for sending the trucks is pretty obvious when you tried to do so, but I did not think of it during development.

@carvster I thought of some ways for letting the player return a piece to the conveyor belt, but I did not found a proper way to do it that did not end with the player repeteadly doing so each time he/she made a mistake, so I decided to keep it out. But probably there is a proper way to implement it.

@digitaldude555 I played and enjoyed your game and your originality at fitting the theme. If you have played some games like You Must Build a Boat or Puzzle Quest, you can guess that your base idea has a lot of potential. I encourage you to refine your game, I think is worth it.

I have written post a post-mortem in case some of you are curious of what problems I encountered during the development. You can find it [here](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/42/ludum-delivery/ludum-delivery-post-mortem). Thank you again for your feedback!

Ludum Delivery by Korso 2018-08-14T22:49:21Z

@cary-stanley Definitely there is a bug there. Maybe is the same one that @gaoyuan-chen reported earlier. Sadly I'm not been able to reproduce it consistently, although some times I've seen strange things with the grid :( I'll try to fix it in the next days

Sin título.png

Ludum Delivery by Korso 2018-08-14T23:22:53Z

@cary-stanley you nailed it! There was a fix in the RMB event that was bypassed when using the buttons. I updated the web version. Maybe there are more bugs, but I can play quite well now using SPACE key. Thanks!

Ludum Delivery by Korso 2018-08-20T01:59:06Z

Hello again! I've spent some hours this week updating this little game. I think it is much better now thanks to your feedback. New version has some nasty bugs fixed, including all grid bugs (I hope), better level progression, new animations, an extra piece as @gaoyuan-chen suggested, toggles for music and sfx, as @ilseroth suggested, better level progression (thanks @tom7 and others for pointing out) and some niceties here and there. I also implemented the possibility to switch a selected piece to another in the conveyor, but I did not like how it affected to the overall gameplay so I decided to left out.

Also, besides of the classic endless mode, I’ve included a secret 100 Trucks mode. It can be activated by clicking in the truck sprite in the main menu. The challenge is to send 100 trucks without losing. You can even try a perfect game if you send 100 perfect trucks (completely filled) :sunglasses:

@pennycook there was in fact some level progression, although not very polished, as you saw. I ran out of time and could play enough to polish it. Thank you for playing it!

@tattomoosa the imposibility of return the selected piece to the conveyor is indeed intended. I implemented the option to switch it with another piece in the conveyor, but it causes more harm than good (you end almost not using it, so I decided to eliminate the possibility, although you could try to re-enable in debug mode D+A keys during the game, in post-compo version).

@dumivid I'll figure out for the next jam, I promise  In the meantime, I've added the possibility to switch on/off music and effects in the post compo version. If you like challenges, you could try the new 100-truck mode in post compo version. I think that you'll like it.

@sergem Thank you for the feedback. Indeed, one of the main issues of the game was definitely the difficulty ramp. I've worked this last week to adjust it better (more difficult at the beggining, more progressive curve, 10 difficulty levels with the last one being possible if you are concentrated)

@frittatenbank Thank you for your feedback! Regarding your question, when you drop a piece it is not possible to move it further. When levels progress, you don't have time to do it, so I decided to do this way. I think in this game as a puzzle game where you can make some mistakes due to the time constraints, and where you need to think twice before putting each piece. Regarding the graphics, the use of a consistent palette for all the graphics and the awesome Piskel do wonders here :D

@flaterectomy It is indeed, but you are right. It is not obvious at all. I've posted a new version where I've tried to make this fact much more noticeable by using some animations with each level change, and by using less levels but more progressive between them. Thank you for your feedback.

@neowhoru @jin9310 Glad you liked it!

Sirkulphage by MrBehemoth 2018-08-13T01:11:45Z

Love it. It's not a new very innovative, but it is pretty polished, with nice controls and a relaxing atmosphere. When you progress into the game, the difficulty curve grows a little too much. Good job.

PD: If audio is indeed third party, you may remove it for the Compo version.
