I love the sound on hit ahah, good job
@doublebiceps haha, I made them all in about 20 minutes. Good old Audacity and gaming headset!
really like the sounds too. was not clear at first ho to control the player, i thought the UP arrow will move it in whatever direction it is looking. I think it is the way it's done in games like GTA1 or Take No Prisoners
Nice animation when they turn into stone, well done!
I really like it, but I kind of wish the orcs had an attack animation.
Simple concept, but solid enough. I've liked if there were some mechanic to get rid of the corpses, or to use them as a weapon. Good job.
@tontonpizza Thanks for the suggestion, it was a toss up between that and my current implementation.
@rkuhl and @korso Thanks for the comments. Those were definitely on the TODO list, had to cut my time down due to work so didn't get to implement :(
@guilhermoni Cheers!
interesting game! a few weird issues: moment keys got stuck sometimes, either preventing me from moving or forcing me to move without pressing anything. also, sometimes an enemy would hit me several times in quick succession, while other times it would last several seconds before another heart was taken. I found a cool technique of surrounding myself with corpses, then the enemies couldn't get me. but i couldn't shoot back, so it was basically a stalemate.
nice job
@torcado Thanks for the feedback, didn't get to have a tonne of play-testing but knew there would be a fair few bugs etc. Always a case of "If only I had X more hours!"
Seems like a good foundation for a shooter game. I think it would help if you leaned into your concept a little more, and really made me feel like a bad-ass fire mage. If there were lights and explosions when I shot the enemies, it'd feel really cool even though the mechanics would still be simple.
Nice work! Pretty neat mechanics, i can see how it ties to the theme and forces the player to strategize where to kill the orcs.
I ran into this bug however where the game freezes and i cannot move and there was no enemies. I would also love to see some visual to indicate the orc hits me because I cannot tell if it hits me or not.
Good job finishing the game and have sound effect and music though
simple yet effective game mechanic, love the top down action gameplay, nice take on the theme, piling bunch of orcs statues, i wish theres more visual feedback when we got hit tho, also the control sometimes feels sluggish and sometimes wont even respond at all, but i only experience it when the theres only 1 left on the health bar, dunno if this is a bug or intended mechanic, but overall well done !
@squirmonkey Thanks, my ideas were lofty but I'm definitely going to polish it up and chuck that on the list.
@jackyjjc Cheers, yeah I noticed that bug pretty close to when I had to submit. Was due to me using some really hacky code to get things to work in a time efficient manner, I tried to squash it with some if(x != null) but didn't get them all I see. Cheers for the comments, was terrified I wouldn't get anything done in time. I'm happy to get it out there, but oh man, makes me feel bad when I know it's not 100% perfect.
I like the interpretation of the theme. It's very funny to kill an orc and trap yourself behind a wall of statues.
Congratulations on completing the jam. Cool game, great use of the theme, love the sound effects.
Nice game, enjoyed it very much. Keep it up!
The random generation hurts this game. Quite a few times I was hit by enemies that basically appeared very close to me, because I happened to be near a corner. I definitely had a hard time noticing when I was being hit as well.
It surely has potential. Yeah, there are flaws as the people before me already mentioned it. But there is potential too.
I liked the music but in my opinion the game should have had a darker tone: diablo-esque. (does this word exist? )
Also I would have enjoyed some physics and/or deeper mechanics behind the fireball, instead of just clicking that much for one single level 1 orc. It felt grindy.
Really reminded me of gauntlet. There was a big bug when you can't replay after clicking restart. I think I would have enjoyed the game much more if there were a level system, or somethign to doother than run backwards and shoot enemies. Saying that I did enjoy playing it, and with some workj you could have something really cool. Art is good but I had trouble understanding when I was getting hit.

Thanks for your feedback, I appreciate everyones comments on my entry, and have taken them on board for next time. I'll get around to playing all of your games and rating this weekend. [I've also created a Post-Mortem if you're interested](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/42/ld42-42-pillars-of-stone-aka-negative-1-the-game-ld-etc/post-mortem-42-pillars-of-stone)
The sound sliders work for me. I would recommend you to turn sound on by default, because your music is pretty good and the sound effects are funny. Hitboxes seem to be a bit too big.
Good first entry for only having 38? hours :)
@oadt Thanks for the review, I was thinking to have it on by default but didn't want to burst peoples ear-drums. Probably could have set it to a low volume to start. Hitboxes should have been reduced, didn't really think about that to be honest. Yeah, only 38hr jam :(
