Really reminds me of the Machinarium minigame inside the brain!
Pretty cool game, loved that you put in a whole story we could follow. The graphics gave me the feeling of oldschool games with i liked aswell. Only minors are the grammar but i don't mind considering the time constraints and that English is probably not your main language. Great job!
I really love graphics. Also gameplay is enjoyable. In conclusion **great job**!
Interesting concept, the guide is fairly long but must-read which is not necessarily a good thing. The main mechanic is "cool" concept.
I really like the concept of using temperature as health, and attacking increasing the temperature - it gives it a sort of blood magic feel to it. Admittedly I did skip reading the journal, but hey - it's 1:30AM here and I'm tired, don't hold it against me. I felt like the demons weren't really doing anything to me and were more of a nuisance that I needed to get rid of, and I tried to attack the fire totem but it seemed to have no effect (though maybe the answer to that was in the guide). Additionally, I'm not sure where the theme comes into the game, though I did only play a little. The graphical style is good, I like the sound effects, and what I saw of the journal looked pretty cool. Overall the game seems pretty neat, but there are a few problems that seem to need ironing out.
love the temperature mechanic
@fadex thanks for trying out !
@m8rix i dont know that game, but thanks !, i definitely will check it out :smile:
@laytanl thanks !, indeed english not my first lang, and also thats graphic that i'm going for, that 8 bit vibe from atari 2600
@jakub-kazimierski thanks for trying it out !
@listonos thanks
@lazinix no problem man, absolutely understandable lol :smile: , the theme basically "running out of space", and its while spesific also very vague, i interprented it for the game as "running out of space in my body for heat"
@bensbuff thanks for trying it out !
Feels like an old C64 game, neat little game.
The lore really added a lot, I wanted to know more about the world by the time the game was done. I like the heat mechanic but you don't really have much control over it, it seems like all you can do is kill everything you walk into and pick up the water. A second attack option that uses more heat would be interesting, to give a bit of choice on how you spend your temperature. I liked the totem mechanic, could have done with some visual feedback to show when you're destroying it.
Very retro. The main mechanic is a really nice idea.
I liked the game. Great Job. The guide is too long though. Too much long. I didn't even bother reading everything except the controls.
I really liked the old style graphics and the temperature mechanic, it was really nice, also the lore is a nice addition
The retro graphics are really well done, and the game is an interesting interpretation of the theme.
Fun game! The temperature mechanic has potential. I never saw the fire totem, so some way of showing which way to go to get there in time would help. The guide was too long. Reminded me a bit of llamatron.
Nice game! I love how you don't really have any health, just a meter that can't go above a certain point. The menu graphics were very blurry (But the in-game graphics were awesome!), and the text was quire hard to read (I would also suggest making the text pox either out of the way, or slightly transparent, it's quire annoying). Overall, though, good job!
Very fun game ! Love the consistency between art, sounds, and your background story. Good Job !
I didn't really find the connection to the theme, but I had fun.
but it's hard to get to the totems in time, you have to be lucky...
@wavertron thanks for trying it out !
@stillnotsure thanks !, glad you like it, absolutely agree !, theres actually quite a lot of cut content in the game cause of the time restriction while also learning the framework :smile:
@dangogamedev thanks !
@bladesides thanks !, thats one of the reason why i make the lore, i try to make the guide as interesting as possible, since theres lot of "weird" mechanic i made for the game, just a guide seems just like lazy for me
@missalpha thanks!, glad you like it
@tritium thanks !
@andy-d you read my mind lol, i actually want to put it in so badly, but unfortunately theres not enaough time :cry: , i even work double for just putting and making the UI :laughing:
@speedysloth99 thanks !, i do agreed with the text, i think after playing it around it because of the shadow effect i use
@deformhead thanks !
@dunin "run out of space" is very spesific , yet very vague theme, i twist the theme a bit within the scope in my game, if you read the guide the character also spesifically said “i’m not sure if there’s enough space in my body…for this amount of heat”
Really fun game! I love that you had time for a story that fits in so well with the gameplay.
Nice game! The retro style and the 8bit hit are delicious. Fire totems really needs some feedback effect when you destroy it!
The connection with the theme is very weak, but existent.
A good entry in the overall! Thanks for your work
Nice game, enjoyed it very much. Keep it up!
I liked the story behind it. Really elaborate pitch.
The enemies are a bit creepy when they stuck to the player though,
Overall, neat little game. I like it.
Felt a bit lost at the start, but it was quite fun figuring out what to do. The temperature mechanic is really cool (pun intended).
Fun little retro game, but I'm not seeing the connection to the theme...
As others have said, the mechanic to destroy the fire totems is not very obvious - even just a slight colour change when you're doing what you're supposed to be doing would signal it a little better, and the heat mechanic is interesting, but it would be nice to have some control over it.
If you were worried the game would be too easy having you passively cool off while not shooting and avoiding enemies, maybe some kind of bonus 'health' points like shrines in Diablo to give one off cooling would be nice so that you don't have a point where you know you're basically screwed but can't do anything about it.
Really solid compo entry (but again, gripes about lack of fitting theme - were you hoping something different would win theme selection? lol)
I like it. Very retro feeling. Only complaint i have is that i don't know how to cool down my character. Is there a way? Or this is the "running out of space" part?:D
@albin thanks !
@memel06 hahaha, yeah, i want to make something fit the theme but not too obvious as in "Physical" space
@eric-kulbiej thanks !
@hakro thanks !
@leave thanks !
@mrnyarlathotep i get what you meant, "Space" not only can be interprented as "Physical Space" , space not only in form of inventory, i try to make the game within the theme scope but not as much of obiviously "space" in term of "storage" or at least not obvioustly storage form
“run out of space” is very spesific , yet very vague theme, i twist the theme a bit within the scope in my game, if you read the guide the character also spesifically said “i’m not sure if there’s enough space in my body…for this amount of heat”
@akaneiro if you read the guide, the demon is dropping water droplet, you can grab it and it'll cool you down quite a lot :D, so yep, thats the running out of space part, and thats also the part i try to do micro management for the player :smile:
Super retro feel overall. I had fun, good work!
I like your story. It's interesting. Commands are simply too. :)
Doesn't really match the theme, but good effort nonetheless.
The temperature concept is very interesting! Maybe a little soundrtack would have made it complete :) Awesome job!
Good game! the game was nice. I loved the concept but the designs could be improved with character animations and some special effects.
Cool game! Honestly the wall of text in the guide kinda turned me off so I didn't read it all of it, then I got confused on how to win and why I was losing. It was still fun, just not super clear
Nice story. I liked the temperature mechanic. Great controls, everything responds as expected.
I was diligent enough to read through the guide so points to you to having justified the theme hah. Loved the concept of temperature being the HP and your showing it explicitly in the character. Good job!
Interesting game. Kind of reminds me of old school Gauntlet. I think the Fire Totem spawned inside a wall for me, so I wasn't able to destroy it :(
@steffanie thanks !, glad you like it !
@quorusa thanks !
@reuno well.........., but thanks !
@odris-den thanks !, can't agree more, the problem is i can't make music lol, planned to learn tho, wish me luck :smile:
@oneiros thanks !, also agree !, i planned to continue developing the game, not sure how far, but will add animation and more level in future update !
@dr-monkfish i see!, yeah thats become double edge sword i guess, my main intention to make the lore to wrap into the guide to make it interesting, but it also become a well of text and defeat my intention lol, i'll try think of better guide next time
@fritz thanks !
@crastinator awesome man !, you probably the first person (at least in the comment) that actually notice that !, and thank you !, yeah the story to help the people to understand why and how the game connected to the theme, even so still not many understand or probably just not read the guide
@jeplmr aaaah, thanks for the report !, will update it asap !
I beat it! I actually had fun reading the guide! I wish there were more enemies but it was fun.
@ghen didn't get the idea from the start, but then beat one totem. did i understand right that i cool them down?
I beated it but i dont really know how, i didnt get any feedback when hitting enemies or shooting. Also the totems didn't explode in my run i think, because i spent a lot of time to kill the first one and nothing happened. Also i liked the graphic style a lot and that you put a lore in an arcade jam game.
@jamison awesome !, glad you have fun !
@kostbllb you, exactly right, everything is explained on the guide tho, i put a lot of "weird" mechanic in the game, thats why the guide is needed, while also unfortunately it become wall of text
@franvadillo ikr, the feedback so far that i can get feels right is only audio, if you enable the audio you should can hear the feedback, i actually playing around with cam shake etc, but in the end it feels tacky
Interesting game. I included it in my compilation video series of the Ludum Dare 42 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/8T98Y6n8oZk
heat mechanics is nice and lore interesting. I miss perhaps some theme music
Good work, I liked it a lot. Maybe a bit of music, but good job otherwise!
Not much to say that hasn't already been said; this was fun and the temperature idea was really innovative! Unique take on the theme, too. Thanks for a fun game!
Really fun, impressive for a one person job. It even inspired me to make something like that one day. I only have worked in a team, it's remarkable what you achieved alone in only 42hrs! The gameplay is very satisfying, the design concept of life being the HP and that you "lose" hp when attack, BUT are rewarded with more hp if you kill the enemies in a efficient way is very good, I felt that it was fair and challenging. The only thing that bothered me was the need to read the guide thoroughly to understand how to kill the fire thing. The feedback that I was receiving (my body heating and the fire pulsing) told me that I needed to get away from it. If the design was more intuitive I would had given max points.
@jupiter-hadley thanks for playing the game !
@velvetlobster thanks !, planned to learn to make music for next LD, wish me luck !
@furtive-pygmy thanks !
@cppchriscpp thanks a lot !
@eduardo-yukio thanks for the kind words man !, but honestly speaking, after seeing compo games in here, i feel like my game is one of the crappiest on the website lol
I quite liked it, Looks like an old atari game and I guess thats what you were trying to do :D the gameplay is simple and it could use some more mechanics.
Neet little game with a ton of lore! I will echo what others have said and say some feedback on hitting the totem would be good (also its unclear to me if the totems actually are hit by my blasts or if standing in them kills me). Also some kind of indicator to where the totem is would help as its mostly just hope you stumble on it. Overall just balancing issues which is normal for a jam, great work, loved the art!
