Nice concept ! could use a little more clarity on visuals but it was fun to play

smt 2021-04-26 01:15

super fun game with intuitive mechanics, simple enough to learn but can get pretty fast paced and difficult, really fun though

giovannibarrottu 2021-04-26 03:15

Cute game! though there didn't seem to be much of an overall goal or measure of progress

tomeks 2021-04-26 03:20

Wow very nice time-killer, love the tune :D

zwodahs 2021-04-26 13:45

Nice entry, reminds me a bit of dig dug for some reason.

One thing that I thought was interesting is that having a longer hook is actually a drawback because missing it almost guaranteed you to take some damage.

If there is an indicator of how deep I have went would be good too.

redspine 2021-04-26 15:53

@zwodahs @giovannibarrottu Thank you for your feedbacks ! :) There’s no indicator of how far you’ve got but there’s an end to the game if you go deep enough. I’m really happy to hear the hook functioned how I wanted it to function ^^

redspine 2021-04-26 15:54

@smt Thanks for the feedback, really happy to see people have enjoyed my game :3 Making it almost instinctively playable was one of my goal !

redspine 2021-04-26 16:00

@tomeks Thank you so much :D I’m really happy with the music

Love it! Should definitely be made to a full game! Feedback: - The decision of "move or attack" feels great! Nice self-balancing there. - Performance in browser was mediocre... not the end of the world though! - Definitely fix the bug where you can no longer fire :( Happened to me a couple times. - The hook mechanic needs a bit more punch/juice/satisfaction. - The enemies could be more interesting (not always go directly towards player, charging attacks toward player that whoosh past, enemies that shoot bullets, etc.) - Node type that have different effects when reached (damage player, teleport, obstacles, kill all enemies, etc.) - More curated level design.

redspine 2021-04-26 17:43

@the-neon-shark I definitely agree with everything you said :) Thank you very much for such concrete and useful feedback. I haven’t investigated the bug yet, but it annoys me very much too. You’re the first to bring up performance issues on browser though :c Sorry for that !

jrevel 2021-04-26 18:26

It is cool that you took the time to put animations everywhere, it gives a lot of juice to the game ! It is quite fun to play, even if the range of the hook is a bit strange at the start : you barely can leave the first island, which made me believe I was stuck at first. And the hook points could get a slightly bigger hitbox, I kept missing them because the fx on them makes them look bigger than they really are.

addnone 2021-04-26 18:35

Game is very good and this game deserves to be further worked on. Everything about this game is very good. I think you should create more levels and maybe a few more different enemy types and release it on both PC and mobile. Good Job!

azagaya 2021-04-26 18:39

Nice game with a clean art style! I liked the simple, yet fun mechanics. I would change the explosion sounds. Sometimes the colors where a bit hard to read to me, are they generated automatically? Cool entry! congrats!

phthalogold 2021-04-27 00:08

Nice, simple, elegant. The hook or hurt mechanic works well - and the enemies turning into bombs that keep the momentum complements this nicely. I wish there was a way to cancel/change direction of the hook, because the long hook takes longer to reatract as well, but maybe that is part of the difficulty curve. The difficulty curve and progression were smooth too and the biggest detractor from the fun happens to be a bug that you addressed - which is fixable in a full game! Great experience with great audio and gameplay.

anaxie-studio 2021-04-27 07:04

I like that it keeps you thinking! Cute and clean graphics. Color swaps were neat to see too 😊

It lagged a little on my browser, in case you'd like to know.

dimaswift 2021-04-27 07:51

If there was "addictiveness" category I'd give it 5 stars, great job!

redspine 2021-04-27 08:45

@jrevel I’m sorry it’s not very clear how to progress, I’ve been told the UI isn’t instinctive too 😖 And yes the hitbox of the anchors don’t include their wave effect ^^ Thank you for the feedback ! I tried to design the beginning of the game to be some kind of tutorial, teaching you mechanics as you progress and try to find your way out 😁

@addnone Wow this is such a nice compliment. I’ll be thinking about it but the LD was already a pause from other work so I don’t know if I’ll give myself the time to do it ^^ Thank you so much for the feedback !

@azagaya Hi and thx for the feedback. The color palettes were designed by hand, but I didn’t have a tool to test them so I agree some of them are actually hard to bear and read x)

@phthalogold Thank you so much ! Yeah the danger of missing your hook was part of the design, though I agree in some situations it becomes way too punitive. I’m really sad about the bug, it appeared really late in development so I didn’t have time to address it effectively.

@anaxie-studio Hi and thank you for the feedback  Did it lag constantly or was it only during color swaps ? The game isn’t optimized at all, and the code is 50% spaghetti haha

@dimaswift Oh wow thank you :flushed: it means a lot

petra-the-kat 2021-04-27 21:34

wow, this is so cute! I love the rhodes and the 16 bit music ... it reminds me of 140 almost, but cozy.

human-writes-code 2021-04-29 07:59

I love this game! Really unique idea and very well made. Despite the simplicity of the mechanics, there is strategy to it and at times you feel a bit of pressure as enemies and bombs come at you from all directions. I like the way that the level's set up so you have to hunt down power ups to progress. The only criticism I would have is that I feel like the music didn't really suit the vibe. That's a pretty subjective thing, though. Overall, excellent work! Great game!

redspine 2021-04-29 17:16

@human-writes-code Hi and thank you so much :) Yeah the music was done in less than 20min at the end of the compo so I was tired and didn’t want to spend that much time on it haha, I definitely agree it’s not the best for the game

gagapete 2021-04-29 20:57

One of the best looking games I've played so far. Every now and then I was disappointed when my grappling hook missed a dot but aside of that I had a blast. I'd like to see more of it.

shawn-moore 2021-05-04 02:36

Very chill, especially with the soft music, bright colors, and slow-paced vibe (towards the beginning at least!). I feel like this could use one or two more mechanics or objectives to make the gameplay a little more fleshed out and compelling. Nicely done!

dragonzbw 2021-05-08 23:05

Pretty cool! The graphics are great! Felt very slow at times and waiting for the grappling hook to come back was kind of annoying. Backtracking if you missed some of the powerups was also a little annoying since enemies don't respawn (it made it a little boring since there were no obstacles to deal with on the way back). Overall awesome game, would be cool to see more.
