Wow! Very fun game! Congratulations! I loved the sound effects haha

Solid entry, immediately understandable game mechanic, not being simple - pretty challenging. Actually the range and spread of weapons making total sense. Snappy controls, I like the option of keyboard or mouse. Nice visuals and animation, fun audio (needs more!). A lot of job has been well done here

cover-club-media 2022-04-07 00:42

Loved it!

betbet 2022-04-07 00:49

This is such a fun game! The mechanics are easy to understand, the game plays really well, and I love the circular playing area - it's so original and really made the game unique! A really solid entry and fantastic take on the theme - congrats on a great game!

Very creative and loved this style of combat. I'm curious to see this expanded to new weapons maybe with non-contiguous borders, or enemies that take multiple hits. I definitely felt the pressure after miss clicking and being surrounded. This would really benefit from some background music and a few sound effects. Overall, great job!

gdesecrate 2022-04-07 00:53

Thanks for the game

mrbrainfed 2022-04-07 01:01

I had a lot of fun trying to win the game. One round I got all the way up to 19 turns but then had two attacking enemies that were too far away from eachother. Every time I lost it felt like it was my mistake for not watching that enemy more carefully instead of the game's fault, and the sound effects were great!

exevirus 2022-04-07 01:06

Darn it, I get to 90% and lose every time. I think I they like to attack on average around every 4 rounds they are alive. There's a lot of lucky hits that you don't think are possible. Definitely a game of skill hidden here.

Still, favorite bug was when you barely miss someone with the battle axe, he goes to hit them anyways, and then...

Stuck....

Thanks for a fun entry! (also great premise)

I love the core mechanic and the concept of the game, it is really fun spinning the wheel of death and slaying many foes. I like the variety in the game play, and the core loop is very engaging. However I was consistently having some issues with the game consistently working with its collision detection in certain conditions. Consider the following screenshot:

Bug questionmark.png

I should, 100%, be able to hit these guys, based on what I learned from the first round. This problem only occurs when playing with keyboard in windowed mode (not full screen) with the keyboard and never using the mouse. After round two the game's collision checking just completely breaks.

Despite that bug, I love this game. I'm just glad there is a way to get around it to play the game like normal. Well done on this entry.

Nice entry, I found it fairly fun. The sound effects were fun and I liked the idea that the different weapons would attack different portions of the circle. I do wish more than one could attack multiple rows though, maybe a spear that attacked one wide on all four columns or a bomb that hit a 2x2 or something. If you were to continue this definitely having an upgrade or shop system that allows you to change out the weapons you choose would be awesome.

My biggest complaint though is that there doesn't seem to be any way to tell who is going to attack before the red icon pops up, all it looked like to me was that it was random. I think it would be better if each different unit had it own behavior like it would attack after a certain number of moves, or if it was in line with two other units it would attack, or something that you could use to strategize which enemies to take out when. Pretty much every time I lost because 2 or 3 enemies on opposite sides of the circle would just decide to attack and there wasn't any way I could figure out that I could have prevented it which just feels unfair.

Super cool mechanic, simple but effective graphics, funny sound effects. I can see the difficulty increasing but the wheel spinning faster. This is a solid submission, would love to see this expanded on further! Well done

piscythe 2022-04-07 01:46

This is a super cool idea. I like the little grunts the dudes make when they die. It's not really obvious why enemies choose to attack beyond "they've been around for too long???", so deaths don't really feel fair. Furthermore, enemy placement RNG seems to be a significant factor in success. I won at 23 turns / 53 kills. Eventually. Good work!

lisyarus 2022-04-07 08:21

I also faced the problem @zack-hd mentioned when obviously successful hits are processed as misses if I selected my weapons with a mouse. Playing with the keyboard worked fine. The core mechanic idea is amazing & novel, truly loved it. A game of personal muscle skill, love that type :) It seems that in the end you always get two enemies simultaneously trying to kill you with no possibility to eliminate them both, which feels really unfair but kind of fits the theme. Good job!

Thanks for everyone who played and rated the game so far. I went ahead and added a description to the page to explain some bugs and logic for monster attacks. Unfortunately I didn't have the time to make it more clear through the UI, but feedback and ideas are always welcome for a possible post-compo version.

PS: I also played and rated all of your games, and they rock! Congratulations to you all!

Great take of the theme, game is fun and require some reflexes, mechanic is really cool, great job.

levidsmith 2022-04-09 03:40

Nice battle system and control scheme. I could definitely see you taking this concept and making it into a full game. I held them for 7 turns and defeated 12 enemies.

bodcodes 2022-04-09 08:31

Really enjoyed playing this compo entry and right on theme. Very nice mechanic which which I have not seen before so marks for originality - easy to grasp but takes time to master. Nice sprites and love the sound effects

BTW HTML5 version did not run for me in Firefox, but Chrome was fine.

lomna 2022-04-09 13:19

Love the soundFX and the artsytle, though after 12 turns it seems to increase too much in difficulty. I was only able to go upto 19 turns.

antonsem 2022-04-09 13:50

I did like the mechanic quite a lot! Perhaps could use some juice. And deaths due to RNG are annoying :D A great entry!

daniel-username 2022-04-09 14:33

Neat concept and fun (until the inevitable)! Some tweaks could make this really stand out. Good job!

jandourek 2022-04-09 20:29

Amazing game! It fits the theme well and is pretty innovative! I got so close, but something always got me in the end. Maybe it would be nice to have a limited special attack that kills a lot of enemies at once when you get overwhelmed. Or maybe a magic wand that shoots in multiple directions (but is harder to hit with). The possibilities are endless! I especially appreciate the keyboard controls, and the art and sound effects were pretty good too. Great work!

lesinvisible 2022-04-15 17:35

This is exactly why I what I love LD for. Very unusual mechanics, and this invention is very fun and addicting. I like how the game doesn't rush you with the need to choose your attack, and even enemies have different weapons and some kind of AI. The only problem for me was that sometimes enmies killed me when I though that I was out of reach.

lcstark 2022-04-21 06:17

A really fun compo entry! The gameplay is simple and immediately understandable. You've got different types of enemies and multiple weapons to defeat them with, which is great. It could perhaps use some more warning about when each enemy will attack. I love this concept, it gave me some ideas for using a similar combat system in a strategy game. Some music would be nice, but the sound effects were really good. ;)

Creative and fun game.
