Cool short little game .)
I saved them once, and then I pressed E on the second attempt. So I'm a monster. And? (made me giggle, just my type of thing)
You seem to put a lot of effort into the environment. Here's my unsolicited advice:
What I do is I add some randomity into most of the environment objects. Rotation, scale, animator speed, sprite rotation, maybe sprite color?.
Something like this on each object:
> void Start(){
> transform.localScale *= Random.Range(.9f,1.1f);
> transform.Rotate(Vector3.forward * Random.Range(-10f, 10f));
> GetComponent<Animator>().speed *= Random.Range(.9f, 1.1f);
> GetComponent<SpriteRenderer>().flipX = Random.Range(0,2) == 1;
> }
Maybe give it a try, tweak it a bit and see if you like the result?
Anyway, good job and nicely done.
I didn't quite get what I was supposed to do but messing around in the game was fun. Idk how many times it said, "You are a monster". Its over 300 though! I liked the art style. Overall, really good! One bug, if you chill in the bottom right hand corner, the penguins can't get you.
I enjoyed saving what snowmen I could. Alas, the summer did come and the killer whale did eat. But I, the humble lumberjack, have done my duty.
The corruption was an interesting mechanic. In general, I had enough time to avoid any consequences for it, but it definitely kept me moving around.
Also, I enjoyed how subsequent plays kept many of the same stats, so as you replayed, it started warmer and warmer until eventually it was permanently summer and you would lose all your snowmen whenever you pressed play. Not sure that was meant to be a feature, but it definitely felt inevitable.
Overall, good simple game which played well to the theme. Thanks for sharing the game!
@kuro Thank you very much for playing and sharing your thoughts. I will definetely try out the randomization (Because you absolutely right... it's VERY repetetive visuals. I was considering it - but never got around to it)
Have a brilliant day :smile:
@crazykittens-892-yt You caught me there - never gave the penguins much love ... so their roaming might be erratic. (Now there's a weird sentence. Thank you so much for taking the time to play :smile:
@thepelranthean :rofl: nice intro there :thumbsup_tone1: Thank you for taking time to trying this one out :smile: And nice catch there .. with the permanent summer :thumbsup_tone1: :sunny:
I guess there are some bugs with the gameplay. It said you are a monster a couple of times and I actually didn't understand what to do in the game. The music and the art seems cool though.
@tahamimarlar Which bugs did you experience? Thank you for taking your time to test it :smile:

I didn't really get what I was doing, but messing around deffinetly was fun! Liked the artstyle, too!

Great overall presentation, gameplay was fun. I swear I saw a killer whale briefly, but might just have imagined it lol
@ottos @squaxcom Thank you so much both of you :thumbsup_tone1:
I did struggle a bit about halfway into the development.. and actually considered dropping the project as I found it difficult to come up with an obvious way of playing... Maybe some better guidelines inside the actual game .. maybe a dotted line from the first couple of snowmen - to where you should actually guide them... and red dots towards hazards.
Had fun with this, definitly surprising the first time I saw a snowman explode. Then got eaten by an orca. Then mean penguins. I don't understand everything about this game world, but I guess it sucks to be a snowman.
I didn't really understand what happens when I press "E", and there where some bugs here and there (like the game not properly resetting after a gameover), but overall it was funny, good work :)
@tombuston Thank you very much for playing and yes ... I struggled a bit with an "obvious" objective... but decided to focus on the process rather than the product :angel:
Fun overall :) But one thing, the random noise that goes like "tic tic tic tic tic tic", I found it absolutely infuriating for my ears ToT But that's all.
@bottled-up-dark-peace hahahaha ... sorry about that - a thing I never even considered :wink: It was an attempt at making a sound that lured the snowmen in - kind of what some people do when trying to get the attention of a cat :cat2:
@purpledartfrog that explains everything XD I hate the "come here, cat" noise.
@bottled-up-dark-peace Brilliant.... then it's solved ..... :smile:
Great take on the theme. Like the graphics. Great entry.

Fun! I liked the strategy and tense waiting for an opening in the penguins' patrols. Movement was also smooth, and bonus points for functional pathfinding!
Also, cool menus & fonts, (though they're clashing a little with the rest of the game?)
Great job!
@paroxysmal Thank you very much :bow: and thank you for playing :thumbsup_tone1:
@failuer Thank you very much for taking time to play :thumbsup_tone1: And thank you for the compliment on the smoothness.. which was actually one of the things I was especially happy with.
And yes I do absolutely agree that the menu and fonts actually clash a little with the final look of the game. Note to self to next time.... hold up on choosing look of those things when there is no actual game yet :bellhop:

A funny game! The visuals and sounds are lovely. Took me some time to figure out what to do, but I managed to save some snowmen after all :)
@lisyarus Good job :thumbsup_tone1: and thank you for playing .. The gameplay isn't really that obvious.. So I get that it takes a minute or so :smile:
I faced a weird bug in the web version where loads of snowmen would spawn initially and then instantly explode and it would be gameover in a shower of blood :D pretty funny though. I reloaded the face and it worked fine. Nice little game. It gave me a chuckle when the cover art was all serious and sinister and then my mouse cursor popped in with just a big carrot :D Good job!
@weirdybeardyman Thank you so much for playing :smile: weird with that bug - I haven't seen it before.. oh well .. it's fine if it just required a reload :wink: That carrot really was a side effect - and didn't know it wouldn't scale down in WebGL ... and it was actually an accidental leftover :rofl:
The audio is unique because I think you whistled as background music :) The game is interesting, snowmen following the protagonist is cute :)

Cool game ;) Managed to save like 20 snowman, then discovered 'e'. No nore snowman were saved after this... I like the audio and the graphics are sweet. Why are the snowmen exploding red? Are they people maybe? 😲
That Orca really caught me by surprise :smiley: It managed to gobble down the whole snowman squad. Great atmosphere, and impressive menu system.

I think I ran into a bug on the second playthrough. It said I saved all the snowmen about 5 seconds in, but I hadn't save any yet? Either way, it was fun!
Orca was funny - the font was a little hard to read and I didn't really understand what I was doing :) I liked killed the snowmen................... :D Great job on submitting!

I don't know if keeping the values after delivering the snowmen was intentional (windows version - wasn't able to play web version due to error on loading - after some point they would spawn and die instantly due to the temperature being above 0 I guess), but I liked their movement (a bit weird but seemed to be helping the player). I liked the composition consistency - the audio and art were matching nicely! Good job on the entry! Well done!

I saved a lot of snowmen there haahahah And killing them was kind of awesome too hehehehe And the shark attack was a nice surpise, with a little flavor of jumpscare! Congratulation :)
"don't press 'e'". DONT TELL ME WHAT TO DO
@yulotomorrow @limered @flightless @jsmitq @phillip-scott @hadryel @welliton @markymark Thank you all for playing :smile:
@yulotomorrow Actually I ended up liking the snowmen a great deal as well.
@limered I'm not telling you on that last one :wink:
@flightless Thank you so much... I did put in a little bit of effort on the menus.. although as someone else pointed out... they conflict a little with actual game look and feel.
@jsmitq Ok - that sounds really weird - was it a second playthrough?
@phillip-scott Absolutely agree - the font is not that easy to read... I considered switching it... at least for everything but the game title.
@hadryel Thank you very much for your extensive input.. Not sure about the WebGL - it should be ok - you sure it wasn't a warning? It warns about the fact that it's actually uncompressed.
@welliton I would have loved to make the orca part a LOT more polished... exactly for the small jump scare :smile:
@markymark I know... we are the kind of people who will definetely hammer that E button when told not to :rofl:

I love the graphics, they take me back to the Windows 95 era for some reason. I also appreciate the extra effort of including a short tutorial! That said, I wasn't quite sure how corruption worked as a mechanic; does anything bad happen to the corrupted snowmen eventually? I was also only able to play the WebGL version and I'm not sure if it was representative of the native build. I experienced a similar bug to the one @weirdybeardyman described: lots of blood everywhere right after starting a new round.
I enjoyed the game, it had a very nostalgic feel, took me 2 decades back too! :smile: The orca part was a surprise! Really didn't expect that! :smile:
I saved some snowmen, killed a lot of them by mistake (or not) and lost the avatar behind the HUD a few times ! I really like your take on the theme, melting snowmen is a good idea!
@stasm @jani-brezavscek @yetanother Thank you so much for playing :smile:
@stasm I do think I get the win95 thing ... To me it's the trees .. something with Warcraft maybe. I think that with these LD's maybe I need to be more explicit with the mechanics .. the corruption causes the snowmen to seek out the ocean rather than the igloo. I'm a little unsure what causes that bug... it might be the push E button functionality that causes it somehow.
@jani-brezavscek Like above... I think it might be the graphics of the trees :smile:
@yetanother You're absolutely right ... the lumberjack can disappear in a couple of places :smile: Thank you for the comment on the theme.. This time around I felt that I caught the theme okay ...

Fun game with a great look and smooth, intuitive controls. I didn't have much trouble winning the first game 13-0. I played again a couple times. Nice music, too. Does winning mean summer is not inevitable? Or maybe it's just delayed infintely? :-)
@dob Thank you very much and thank you for playing :smile: The main issue with inevitability is that we are so sure of ourselves - that we think we know what it is :wink:

This was so weird, right down to the carrot cursor, I love it lol. Even though I had no idea what was going on at the start. Why don't the penguins like the snowmen?!?

For some reason when I start playing (web version) all the snowmen explode and I lost :( I don't understand very well what to do.

Nice graphics and cool touch with the options screen and tutorial - made it feel like a complete game. I also liked the movement of the group of snowmen. The way they tended to stick together but not overlap felt very natural (if one can say that about walking snowmen).

I don't quite know what I'm doing or I'm supposed to do in the game, but I especially loved pressing E. Yes I'm a monster. The concept is good and the game looks nice, I only wish the gameplay was clearer. Nice one!
Hahaha the E button! I like this entry, it's a fun escort mission game! Does the carrot cursor do anything? I think I was fooling myself into believing that the carrot attracted the penguins somehow (that's not the case, right? :sweat_smile:)
Cool game
@hungryroy Well because they are unnatural of course :wink: Thank you very much for playing :thumbsup_tone1:
@pitxardo Yeah - apparently that's a thing... not sure why that is happening...
@vidarn Thank you very much ... and of course you can say that about snowmen :rofl:
@jackaljk Thank you very much and thank you for trying it out :thumbsup_tone1: And I absolutely agree... the gameplay lacks a bit of "obviousness" :smile:
@conradoclark Thank you bery much and yeah... that's quite an accurate representation of the "intended" gameplay :wink:
@conradoclark ... don't know if I want to kill your dreams but unfortuantely ... no the carrot does not do anything... but a brilliant idea :thumbsup_tone1: :smile:
Initally I was a bit confused, then it hit me and I save 10 of then then 14. I like the dangers in the road and having to run against the clock. I think you can take this and expand it with different levels of different dangers. It would be very intuitive on an ipad.
@binaryprinciple I actually suppose you're right... the escort mission mechanic might actually be a fun handheld mechanic. Thank you for some great input :thumbsup_tone1:
Nice game, the only mechanic I think I didn't understand is the carrot one, I tried to give it to the penguins and to the snowmen, tried rubbing them with it, etc., and nothing happened.
Other than that, I really like how you made the entire map with like 3 different assets, pretty ingenious.
@jesus-gonzalez thank you very much for playing :thumbsup_tone1: and yeah the carrot isn't actually a mechanic... it was only when I made the WebGL build I found it that scaled up ... And yes the map was relatively simple to create in this manner :smiley:
