Such a fun and cute game, I feel like the restautant need "real" repairing though :D NB: I don't know why I can't rate yet, I'll come back for that.

pandamander 2022-10-03 01:10

Man this restaurant is falling apart! I got to 10 customers served before I retired from being a sushi chef forever. Fun cute concept and name!

speakwithplants 2022-10-03 01:15

Really nice idea! I think things in the kitchen break too often, though. :P Also I noticed once enough customers sit down (I think 5 or 6?), you can't see the arrows for the recipes anymore. Overall nice work!

d00kl1 2022-10-03 01:17

Well designed game with and good pacing. The graphics are a nice combination of pixel art (smoke etc.) and higher resolution (water etc.). The status indicators are effective, tell the player exactly what needs attention at any moment of time.

kevin-du 2022-10-03 01:48

The game is very complete. well done. I'm probably wrong, seems there would be more room for decision making if I could cook first even though some equipment was broken.

iguanana 2022-10-03 02:07

Absolute chaos in this kitchen. Very nice job. I do wish stuff broke less often, or I could continue making sushi when things broke. Spent all of my time fixing and simply did not have time to be the best sushi chef I could be.

reevest2 2022-10-03 02:40

Panic is the right word for this game. Trying to make sushi and stuff keeps breaking!

smilewood 2022-10-03 02:44

So much of my kitchen broke that I learned that standing between things lets me fix multiple things at once! I like the game, getting the sequences of inputs down for the different dishes was interesting, but I felt that the rate of things breaking was kind of absurd. I would guess that three things broke per one dish that I was able to serve, and frequently it would be right as I was pressing the last key for the input. I would have preferred that the difficulty ramp of the game came more from having to make dishes faster for more customers and less from the fact that 75% of my time I was not allowed to make sushi. Maybe just letting the current sushi finish if one was started when something broke would have felt better?

The game looks great, I love the way that the little chef runs around, and the subtle animation on everything is very fun. The audio fit the game well, although I got a bit tired of the "things break" sound (I may have just been tired of things breaking). Overall a great game, I enjoyed playing it! Well done!

waffleworksgames 2022-10-03 03:17

Love it! I got 19. The two things I really liked were 1. how the input codes remained constant between dishes so you could easily remember the combinations, and 2. how you could repair multiple things at once if you were standing close enough to them. Nice job!

acdimalev 2022-10-03 03:44

Really cool. The fixed resolution is a bit of a problem on the laptop I'm on (1368x768), and I think the prep menu (E) bugged out while I was playing. Otherwise, it's a simple concept very well executed.

haydads 2022-10-03 04:27

Nice looking game. I had an issue with the resolution being too big for my display. Might want to keep that in mind for web games, but this is a nice game which is easy to play and understand. Nice one

ruslan-kossak 2022-10-03 07:57

Nice game! The resolution had negative impact on my experience. Everything else is good. Enjoy your sushi :)

rickylee 2022-10-03 08:33

Who is this guy who can repair 3 things at once ^^ though actually maybe he should hire someone else to come fix stuff because he's clearly not that good at it haha.

my score \o/

image_2022-10-03_093216193.png

at this stage I literally never got the chance to make any more sushi from things breaking :') really fun game!

m11 2022-10-03 08:42

Lovely art style! (And absolute chaos in the kitchen!)

thegamearchitect 2022-10-03 11:04

A fun game but i dont think the kitchen needs to break so often, its 80% fixing the kitchen and 20% cooking... You could also get the icons for the timer to always be infront of the player, and perhaps allow the player to cook despite kitchen being broken.

A well made game, a good achievement for 48 hours.

grilladroid 2022-10-03 11:22

This is just amazing piece of work in 48 hours, hats off! Wouldn't perhaps eat in such a chaotic restaurant myself... Over time I think it would benefit from possibility of improving the kitchen so that it requires less and less of manual fixing. Anyways, I hope you get to improve it further and make a full release!

mikoziq 2022-10-03 13:13

I would never asked anyone to work in a restaurant like this lol, but at least I unlocked all tables

Pros:

- 2D Overcooked: sushi explosion edition - Funky graphics and animations - I like the difficulty of meals and it's repetitiveness, so you can memorize it - Speaking of prepping meals, that essentially feels like preparing a Tekken Combo lol - Music in a compo is always a +

Cons:

- Probably mentioned here already, but the game feels more like repairing than fighting to get orders out. Would tone down the frequency of breakdowns a bit - After getting more chairs filled, my order list bugged out and I couldn't see any arrows to follow (image below)

2022-10-03 (15).png

A nicely scoped game for the Compo! Great job!

stuffedgravy 2022-10-03 13:13

Very cute art and concept!

I had some resolution issues that made the recipes disappear after I had too many customers waiting, but still managed to make it decently far :)

The ramp up of difficulty was very appreciated, it helped me get used to the mechanics before it got too hectic. The recipes were fun and I had a few moments of being just about done with the recipe before something broke, which felt frustrating in a good way. The repairs could have been something equally engaging since I ended up spending most of my time towards the end just fixing things, and having something skill-based would make it feel like I had more agency over the time spent repairing.

shimmerscale 2022-10-03 13:41

I enjoyed the mechanic of having to fix things before I could cook, but at one point, things were breaking so fast that I couldn't cook at all and that's when I lost. Maybe things breaking could also be on a timer or maybe you could continue cooking if something breaks, but have to stop if all of the items break?

flamus 2022-10-03 13:43

Great game!:) Enjoyed the graphics, theme as use of arrows as a mini game (reminds me of good old helldivers <3)! Good job!

prologi 2022-10-03 13:49

Damn, Gordon Ramsy would be very proud. kitchen.png

guardaro 2022-10-03 18:20

Awesome graphics and sound, and great concept! I had some resolution issues on itch.io that got in the way of playing it properly, but pretty much everything that I was able to see was really great. It's like a pixel art version of an Overcooked level!

ghostbomb 2022-10-03 18:26

Very impressive comp game!

fifut 2022-10-03 19:05

If it was my restaurant, I would hire a repairman quickly because of the speed at which the equipment breaks down  Like @mikoziq my order list bugged out but I had time to have fun

pinnyo 2022-10-03 19:37

Fun, I think maybe the ramp up on people to serve could have been a bit faster. Otherwise it was fun.

lbrande 2022-10-03 19:38

Nice combination of dancing and restaurant games with cool graphics. Perhaps the repair part is a bit too stressful.

nash 2022-10-03 19:50

Heh, that got hectic quite quickly. I really got stuck repairing stuff almost for a minute. For a second I thought I would not be able to get back from this but I did. So pretty nice balancing on that part.

I can always appreciate when people take time to create their own music and sound effects for their jam games. Some of the sound effects started to get quite jarring to my ear though and I would have wished to turn them down a little. It is a good practise to always include a volume slider right at the first screen of your game. It is very hard to judge what would be the correct volume level because it depends on the player’s setup.

But overall, a cute game. Great work!

nyxkn 2022-10-03 20:20

Game's really cute! I got to a point where things were breaking constantly and wasn't able to do anything other than repairing. So other than difficulty adjustment, I felt like the game was lacking purpose. It felt like actual work and there was no reward. The art is really really nice, and the music is well fitting. Very well polished game overall.

bukkaketears 2022-10-03 21:38

ez.jpg

Srsly, it doesn't fit on my screen.

Other than that, it is cool game. And cure little pixel art graphics.

flamboozle 2022-10-03 21:39

Funny little game. I love little diner dash like games. Feels paced well.

Definitely could improve the graphics and feel a little bit but its a game jam after-all so great job.

milq 2022-10-03 22:34

Very funny! I had no idea how much I was going to laugh in this game, the truth is that I love press-key-in-that-order games and sushi too. The art is very impressive too. Great game!

theseusinabottle 2022-10-04 03:34

Definitely rubbed my brain the right way. Maybe I am just a weirdo but pushing buttons in the correct order at mach 5 is easily one of my favorite things to do.

lisyarus 2022-10-04 08:02

Nice game! Figured you can fix several things at once if you stand right between them, - not sure if that's a bug or a feature, but that's pretty helpful, enables some strategic fixing :) After a while things start breaking faster than you can fix them, but I guess this is intended.

phillip-scott 2022-10-04 09:44

Fun game! Liked the multi repair. Rolling sushi feels easy, need to try it! :)

Good entry!

gangrue 2022-10-04 10:26

Awesome, very hectic feeling and the art/sound track created a perfect atmosphere. Props to you

osh-studio 2022-10-04 12:23

Soooo stressful but that's just me with this type of game. It was super well balanced and felt good to get the combos right. Well done :)

senso 2022-10-05 11:42

Impressive entery for a compo ,Nice work! your artwork is realy smart works like a charm.

zimny11 2022-10-05 18:11

I was impressed with a game and then I realized it is Compo entry! Amazing. My only feedback would be: things break too often I spend more time fixing stuff than serving customers (which is more fun part of the game). Anyway, great job with the game!

helzinko 2022-10-05 19:15

As a compo game this is very solid entry. Smooth controls, cute graphics

pkenney 2022-10-07 02:08

I got 17! And oh man, was panic the right title!

That moment when you slightly stumble on the recipe and it restarts, and then just as you almost get it the second time it cancels because something broke, it's CRUSHING. But in a really fun way.

This was super well-done. It had a cool core game loop, a lot of tightly-paced challenge, and it made me want to try "just one more time." Nice art, decent sounds, and a nice little bumping song in the background were nice.

The multi-repair was also interesting... kind of a risk/reward thing, in a few cases I felt like a genius but then other times I would accidentally restart a really slow one like the freezer and be kicking myself.

Really appreciated that arrow keys worked for movement, as well as WASD.

Nailed the panic. Nice entry!

msplanlos 2022-10-07 16:35

Love the graphics! Great game! (:

serxiolas 2022-10-07 22:40

Nice visuals and fun to play! This poor guy need some maintenance in is restaurant!!

fedir 2022-10-08 13:15

Nice game, sometimes its pretty hard)

2022-10-09 18:35

Fun! It was a only a bit frustrating when something broke when I was trying to finish a sushi recipe and closed the menu, but that made me enter them faster, so it worked :)

madeofst 2022-10-13 19:24

Very nice game. Having looked over the other comments I think I had a similar experience to most - thought it was a really neat idea to use key combos for meal prep. I can see how there had to be a balancing element to increase difficulty but the repairing of stuff ended up being most of the game, and that part wasn't much fun! With a different balancing mechanic, or using different key combos for the repairs this could easily flip into being brilliant. Nevertheless, there's no doubt this a great submission - art, sound and execution generally were brilliant. Lovely stuff.
