Good job on finishing! The ores feel spread out and I like how the music changes as you get deeper. I only played the first 10-ish minutes. It seems like a slower paced game, and if you don't sell your ores you lose them all on death.

sinusquell 2021-04-25 17:52

@nbumgardner Thank you :) Actually, you should get half of the Ore value when you die. I should make that more obvious. It's true, though, that it's a bit slower-paced than most LD Games.

chumzy 2021-04-26 02:48

I feel like the controls were a bit too slippery and sometimes when I jumped it would launch me weirdly. It was still pretty fun. I would try adjusting how you cool down because It feels annoying to sit at the surface just waiting to cool down (Maybe Increase the speed or when you are at the surface you instantly cool down?).

sinusquell 2021-04-26 10:24

@chumzy Thank you for the feedback :) I agree that the collision and movement is a bit weird at times. Unfortunately, I didn't have enough time to optimize that.

mdotedot 2021-04-26 11:21

Cool faster! Good job on finishing. Mix of keyboard and mouse was a bit strange.

smeljey 2021-04-26 11:32

Cool and meditating game. But it's a little bit boring that you need to make all this way back to the surface to sell your ores. Something to speed up this process would be nice

bungalow 2021-04-26 11:39

Awesome work!! Very impressive that you coded and this and made all the assets! Great work for a game jam!

colisan 2021-04-26 11:56

Nice entry! I must admit playing it longer than I planned to =D

The gameplay and progression feels a bit like a clicker/idle game, that's actually satisfying. And digging strait down super fast after a while is really fun!

The art needs a lot of refining, obviously, but it gets to the point ^^ I feel like progression-wise some balancing could be done, I almost locked myself when I bought heat resistance before mining speed, and was stuck in a slow-mining hell where I couldn't suicide, and it would have took ages to get back up.

I was a bit dissapointed to reach the purple blocks after depth 1015, it's kinda a "can't go further" game end with the inneficient mining speed. The death message made me believe there would be a area with low visibility after =D

Overall, I enjoyed it!

oadt 2021-04-26 12:08

Nice entry! The music and mood are great. I think this game should be a lot faster paced though. You could for example make the layers thinner so players get fast progress at the beginning. Also I feel like at the end the pace gets even slower: I played to the thorium layer. There I could only collect a few ores before dying. The next health update costs 500$, but I can only barely make any money and have to always walk back down. One other thing that that bugs me is that mining is either super fast or super slow, there is no in between

Anyways, this is all balancing and you probably just hadn't enough time for that. Overall good job

exewin 2021-04-26 12:09

I think there is no point really going back to surface, except maybe only for 1-2 runs at start. Classic approach on theme :pick:

Capture.PNG

Going past 1000 depth seems to be too much for pale dwarf to handle, but I think he will gladly burn himself to death for shiny diamonds

lisyarus 2021-04-26 12:23

A very nice game! Returning to the surface for upgrades feels a bit slow as you go deeper, but this forces you to plan your tunnels, which is fun. Jumping 2 tiles exactly is a clever decision - not too high but still allows for maneuvering. Would love to have an ability to build some ladders/walkways. Great job!

aceluck 2021-04-26 15:05

Good job on this game! Fun and challenging.

sinusquell 2021-04-26 16:56

MY GOD! Thank you all for the amazing feedback!

@colisan @exewin @oadt Originally, the plan was to have lava pockets below 1000 where the heat would rise more if you get too near. Also, the balancing does need some work, but I had to make a cut to finish the music and SFX :D

@lisyarus @smeljey I actually realized that the selling part is a bit weird the deeper you get. I wanted to make an upgrade, lika a "mobile shop" or a teleport to the top so you wouldn't have to go up again, but as I mentioned above, I ran out of time too quickly.

Thank you all again, what an amazing community!

jimbly 2021-04-27 14:58

Minor bug, when falling long distances =) Capture.PNG And that's as far as I go! Capture2.PNG

I enjoyed that! Though fairly unoriginal, it's exactly the kind of game I wanted to play when I saw the Deeper and Deeper theme ^_^.

Jumping mechanics were a little rough, going up 2 and over one through a small hole was always hard, but eventually I learned to just make smoother slopes to climb... having to climb all the way back up after mining my first obsidian was a *chore* though...

I think the levels would have been more interesting with some empty spaces, making it harder to make a good path, however my OCD compelled me to remove 100% of all ores (well, the first 3, anyway...), so I added that challenge myself, though had way too much money in the end ^_^.

Music was nice!

sinusquell 2021-04-27 18:33

@jimbly Thank you for the in-depth feedback! Someone mentioned that bug to me before. I guess the generator is not fast enough... I should have capped the falling speed :D And yes, I agree that a teleport or a mobile shop or something like that would be very handy.

sode 2021-04-28 12:39

Damn I didn't realise that you needed to go up and then I just died...

jujuformatic 2021-04-29 10:04

Good game but too basic i think, the heat value is good and make the game a little more special. for the bug mentionned before, you can set the collision detection of your player in Rigidbody2D to Continuous instead of Discrete

sinusquell 2021-04-29 14:33

@sode You do get half of the Ores as Cash when you die, though :)

@jujuformatic Thanks for the tip, I'll keep it in mind for next time.

cogcomp 2021-04-29 18:50

Nice idea. With a few more features to increase the variation a bit this would be a good mining game (such as elevators, dynamite, etc..) Well done!

2021-04-30 02:08

It's fun in a clearly unintended way. It's clear that the developer wanted the player to climb back up and sell the ores, but moving upwards is incredibly difficult. I found myself just digging down a lot and collecting ores along the way and just dying, since it felt faster than going up. Some upgrades like a jetpack or ropes or something that could ease going upwards would incentives going towards the surface.

Also, once you get to the surface, I feel like the heat should always go down really fast, even without any heat protection.

sinusquell 2021-04-30 10:41

@cogcomp & Anonymous Thank you! I am actually thinking about continuing this project. I have some pretty cool ideas for it :)

harmadillo 2021-04-30 19:53

nice game. I liked the heat mechanic but found returning to the surface to dissipate it very slow. I progressed a lot faster once I embraced death.

lokt02 2021-05-01 20:20

Good job! Game is fascinatingly but I dont like that there is no animations at all. Despite this I like that you bring some random.

lex 2021-05-01 21:28

Congratulations on your compo entry! Not everyone can do finish a game in 48 hours. I wish the game had a final goal or something. At least I couldn't find any.

skoobydoo 2021-05-02 06:35

I was sort of hoping there would be something to get to at the end...I stomached about 100 past the point where you cant bear the heat at max upgrades. At that point, when falling down I would sometimes glitch down an extra ~50 tiles into these weird horizontal hallways that might be some sort of terrain gen glitch...

Not an amazing game by any means, but a relatively complete submission (except for the aforementioned lack of an ending!). I think I'd have enjoyed it more with the numbers tweaked a bit to be a bit less grindy...I'm not sure the game as-is really needed to cap out at a depth of 1000, so shooting for a round number probably hurt you a bit there.

A few additions, particularly to make movement a little bit more interesting and either number tweaks or other tricks to make it feel like less of a grind would make this pretty solid.

sinusquell 2021-05-02 13:17

@harmadillo @lokt02 Thank you :)

@lex @skoobydoo Yes, I agree that some sort of ending is definitely missing. I didn't have time for that, unfortunately.

pancelor 2021-05-02 18:41

I had a lot of fun with this game! the jump physics were not fun for me, but that wasn't an issue once I realized that the strat is to die every time. I also thought the early game was a bit slow, but I was able to get through it so maybe I'm actually just wrong about that. I had a lot of fun discovering strats that made the game a very different game from the one I was expecting. Really nice work! I enjoyed this a lot

@pancelor Thank you so much! I agree, the collision and jumping feels a bit off. I'll check that video out later, I'm at work at the moment :)
