LD51 — Every 10 seconds

Beat Survivor by pndaa 2022-10-05T17:40:47Z

Really great little game - I appreciated the weapon upgrades and 'rogue-lite' upgrades after runs. It had me playing for quite a while. I think the main constructive feedback I have is just that after a while having the rhythm always be the same unchanging beat didn't feel like it added that much to the gameplay. It got me thinking it might be fun to require more complex beats to activate specials.

Space Frontier by Ben Yazi 2022-10-05T17:25:33Z

Really impressive entry, and definitely feels like it has a ton of potential for further development. I encountered some issues but it sounds like they are mostly things your team has already identified (i.e. balance and clearly ui/indicators to let you know which resources are missing or needed)

Rough Day by PicusBGames 2022-10-05T19:29:57Z

An impressive amount of gameplay features, and the concept and visual design are both charming. I think my notes would be pretty similar to what others have said - it could use more visual and auditory queues to help you understand where things are and what to do. It does get easier after playing for a bit, but it is pretty confusing for the first while.

Colibri by andy593 2022-10-05T01:08:27Z

Earned an extra star for the drama of that intro-sequence alone. Had some confusion about the logic of various objects in the world (e.g. you CAN fly through trees, you CANT fly through black vines) but the gameplay was honestly pretty enjoyable.

Darkwater Dispatch by Gryph0n 2022-10-05T00:01:47Z

Great Mood, loved the visuals and audio. Gameplay was pretty smooth. Because of the goal being travel in more or less straight lines, the slowness of the sweep left me proceeding with no information about what was in front of me for close to 1/3 of the travel time. This was great for building tension, but was a little anti-climactic when I would just bonk into a wall and then stay put until the sweep revealed where to go next. It left me wondering if you had tried having a sweep with two lines in opposite directions so that the known information was less limited. In any case, you have a lot to be proud of here.

RougeBlobs by C1913 2022-10-05T18:15:14Z

Very nice! popping bubbles was an excellent choice for a simple, satisfying experience, and the tank design is stylish. One note if you decide to work on this more is that because after a few levels it seemed like all the upgrades were omni-directional, the game felt like it required less strategy as it went on instead of more. Over-all, a lot of promise.

CART CRASHERS by screenshake 2022-10-06T05:51:54Z

I couldn't tell you if hopping actually made me faster - but watching the carts rippling around certainly improved the journey. Well done on creating a truly memorable experience.

LD52 — Harvest

Not Mushroom for Error by TerraCottaFrog 2023-01-14T19:22:18Z

Honestly loved this. One of my favorite compo entries. Visuals are simple but well designed to serve the gameplay. Excellent work.

Monster Harvester by Notaveerus 2023-01-09T01:50:00Z

It seems like it is working now. I just checked it out - very cool concept and it creates some interesting action dynamics to be trying to sneak past the attacks and hit the legs.

I didn't notice any indicator of enemy health - so I am assuming that when it freezes that is because I have killed the critter.

As you mentioned it does seem like it is still a work-in-progress, but it shows a lot of promise!

Horn of Abundance by fusionnist 2023-01-09T01:40:25Z

Awesome work! The overall aesthetic and atmosphere is really cool. I also dig the old-school shmup-style over-the-top weapon upgrades - the only drawback there is that the screen can get visually overwhelming.

Reap What You Blow by polynoggin 2023-01-09T02:45:29Z

I find the reaper's unwillingness to get out of his office chair, or use his hands in order to do his job highly relatable.

Very appealing game.

I do agree with previous comments that the movement feels a bit to difficult to be satisfying. Since we already have the complication of needing to blow from place to place I think you could make the controls snappier and still maintain a good level of challenge. Given a little longer to dial it in, I think the core mechanic has a lot of potential.

Bad Apples by paulstraw 2023-01-09T02:27:04Z

This is a delight! I love the mechanic of the worms causing the apples to go bad so you can strategize based on where you see the worms heading instead of things falling randomly. I could really imagine this as a minigame in a larger game.

Bloodflail by Untitled Studios 2023-01-09T01:22:16Z

Rock-solid entry. Legitimately fun to play, loved the upgrade system.

Been playing for a bit - this may not be a fair fight anymore :) Bloodflail 2023-01-08 17-12-48 - frame at 0m3s.jpg

Hortirata by Szieberth Adam 2023-01-15T00:43:23Z

It seems like a very cool idea - I also struggled a bit to really 'get' the strategy, especially as soon as it gets to the multi-step puzzles. I was wondering if it might be clearer having a number indicator on each tile (i.e. grass (0), grain (1), lettuce (2), berry (3) and seed (4)) because I think it would take me quite a while to internalize the relative values.

Season of Harvest by Wuppos 2023-01-11T21:27:10Z

Beautiful art and design. I am having a hard time figuring out the strategy - would be great to be walked through placement for the first tutorial so I can see the mechanics in action (obviously it is hard to put anything like that into a compo game :P). Also - and this is a minor issue: there is some kind of high pitched audio artifact that plays when the grow and harvest rounds are proceeding, I find it pretty jarring. Otherwise the audio is lovely.

Overall fantastic job!

Moon Harvester by owca 2023-01-10T07:08:36Z

Interesting blend of snake and clicker. I loved the ambiance, look, and concept. I the progression was interesting but did feel a little slow since it took a while for the gameplay to be impacted by changes. Also given the slow growth it was particularly embarrassing when I bumped the outside edge and was insta-killed X)

Billiard Hero by thyoi 2023-01-10T20:08:18Z

This is a gorgeous game. The visual design is really high level for such a short development period. I also really enjoyed the gradual build-up of chaos, and new powers. I did feel like I wanted to have a stronger sense of my goals (maybe an indicator of what is needed to unlock the next stage?), though it was legitimately entertaining just to bounce around and knock in anything I could.

As of the time I am writing this your game didn't have a cover photo - so I will admit I came in assuming there wouldn't be much to look at and was surprised it was so polished. Would definitely recommend adding even just a screenshot as a cover photo if you want to draw more people in (in addition to giving other games reviews, etc.)

Harvest Soon by ImInSoftware 2023-01-12T20:42:03Z

One of my favorites so far. Love the art, love the atmosphere, and an impressive number of features for compo.

Extreme Apple Picking by profundity 2023-01-10T06:53:05Z

Thank you everyone for your feedback!

@parchmentengineer - Maybe. But robots are pretty efficient... so maybe not.

@hypernoodlejon - Definitely agree. Time limit is my only excuse :P

@kymakesgames - Thank you! It is really gratifying to hear that because I honestly sunk way more time than I had intended into the character movement and shaking logic. And now that you mention it, it does seem like any number of day-to-day problems could be fixed by having a robot pick things up and vigorously shake them.

@jellybean - That's a great idea. Honestly I only started to notice the 'scootch apples around' strategy pretty late in development. It could certainly turn into a more complete feature.

Iris's Scrappy Rumble by ScolonDev 2023-01-15T00:15:55Z

I'm impressed. Charming art, solid audio, very fun core gameplay really cool little game - it mostly makes me wish their was more, which is about the best thing a jam game can do. As far as pacing, I actually didn't mind that it was on the frantic side - but this became an issue for me when there started to be enough scrap on screen that it would all be in little overlapping piles, which made going for matches almost impossible. So I ended up falling back on just sprinting around willy-nilly until I heard the sound cue telling me I could fire, going for quantity over quality.

Gene Graph Garden by kaliuresis 2023-01-10T19:40:16Z

Very cool little puzzle game, incredible depth for such a short development period. The problem solving was quite engaging. I agree with @pincushion that the role of the secondary arrow on the grow gene was not clear from the instructions - and is very important for solving the later levels.

LD55 — Summoning

Ritual by Doumbaga 2024-04-17T05:17:27Z

As the second half of @paloobi's demon-busting team, I can second all the complements. Really effective atmosphere. Felt like a lovely mash-up of KTaNE and Phasmaphobia. Great job!

Detective of the Dead: Ghoulish Adventures at Erstwhile Manor by Jahwffrey 2024-04-17T04:03:33Z

Really dig the 90's live-action-cutscene b-horror vibes. Thank you for a truly unexpected little adventure! I did get stuck right around the hammer-ghost. Controls were a little finicky, but the attack/launch mechanic with Tony was surprisingly entertaining.

Fashion Demon by Zoeluci 2024-04-17T04:22:59Z

Nice job! Absolutely loved the illustration and character. I would have liked having a bit tighter control of my lil' guy though, as failing often felt like the result of wrestling with controls.

Imagining Dragons by Falk Hoeppner 2024-04-17T03:38:31Z

Charmed my socks off. The photo backgrounds were a clever, and cozy touch.

Star Seed: Apocalypse by paloobi 2024-04-17T05:10:44Z

@lushboy-studios, thank you so much! And sorry for the shock. Yeah, sound was definitely high on the list of things we couldn't quite get in under the wire.

Star Seed: Apocalypse by paloobi 2024-04-17T16:43:21Z

@gerolmed , yeah... that is an unfortunate side-effect of me haphazardly placing all the enemies in the last five minutes of the jam X). Glad you enjoyed the style.

WIP (actual game name) by ThomasVenner 2024-04-17T16:53:45Z

Absolutely love the concept and the core mechanics. The interface was a bit finicky (I could imagine clearer feedback on when I can/can't place a piece before releasing it, and I'd love a 'rotate' control) but for a jam game I am very impressed. Great job!

How to Summon a Cat For Dummies by LChaves 2024-04-17T04:41:08Z

Definitely high on charm, and the core concept is intriguing. unfortunately I just couldn't figure out any kind of strategy that seemed to work. Which feels like an accurate simulation of a cat - but not necessarily the experience I hoped for :)

HELLSPAWNER by Thomas Gelman 2024-04-17T04:13:57Z

Great work! particularly liked the character design. Found myself wishing the enemies would telegraph their moves more somehow to allow more strategic responses - but I did still manage to become the ultimate goop (on normal mode at least.)
