Great art style and killer music too. I love the GB aesthetic. A HUD for health would have been useful tho but I saw you guys mentioned that in the description. Great submission!

nice entry! the art is definitely a standout for me -- the colors and character design are excellent. I think something that could help is some sound effects for attacks, damage, etc.. would help build immersion. also I admit I got jump scared when the music started after the dialogue, haha. Nice work on this one :)

Nice music and art!

Cute little game! Love the art style a lot, the GameBoy era is a vibe I always have appreciated :D

profundity 2024-04-17 05:10

@lushboy-studios, thank you so much! And sorry for the shock. Yeah, sound was definitely high on the list of things we couldn't quite get in under the wire.

@eric-nguyen @lushboy-studios @rrsmtz @thomas-gelman thank you all for playing! (also so glad the gameboy aesthetic shone through - this game was definitely our little love letter to gameboy adventure RPGs)

Digging the bold palette and spritework.

yangsang 2024-04-17 05:29

The art and music really resonate with me!

I love the colour palette so much p.p Very nice game! Thanks for the eyecandy <3

I love retro styled games in general... the only issues I had was getting hit instantly when swapping screens without any time to react

profundity 2024-04-17 16:43

@gerolmed , yeah... that is an unfortunate side-effect of me haphazardly placing all the enemies in the last five minutes of the jam X). Glad you enjoyed the style.

I love the jiggle animation of the base aliens. It makes them very cute. Nice audio aswell. Fitting the aesthetic!

I really like the art and music and sound effects. Feels like a start to a great game. I appreciate your "Future Features" list of what you would have liked to have. I think the most important (for me) would be the heart HUD. In any case, great work!

jpbash 2024-04-18 17:16

What this game lacks in terms of features (for now) it makes up for with interesting lore and good art and music. Something to consider: I died a few times and couldn't find any way to respawn without reloading the page. Good luck with future development!

@happyhour @yangsang @dekisenpaitm @gerolmed @salanyel @scriveneroflight @jpbash

Thank you all so much for your feedback and for playing our game!

And especially thanks for noticing all the hard work we put into the art, music and writing. <3 We know we'd have a long way to go with the gameplay, but we learned a lot from this process on how to prioritize things during our next game jam (and we may even come back and revisit this game down the line, we had a lot of fun building the world and story)

Some of the best art I've seen all jam. The music and dialogue help build tension when exploring this unknown place. I like the forgiving hitbox of the attack animation so even when I thought it wouldn't hit it still did and knocking back the aliens upon being hit was also nice. Sometimes the aliens would kill me upon entering an area which lead to some unfortunate deaths but overall this was an enjoyable experience

Loved exploring the world and defending myself from the monsters, found a few big white blocks and died once or twice to enemies on the side i entered from but otherwise looks like a solid start to a fun game. Art is amazing.

joe40001 2024-04-23 04:52

I think I explored pretty much everywhere, not sure if there is a destination or win state. I found a few what looked like tunnels but could not enter them. The input delay on the attack might need tweaking, but interesting game idea, also good art!

The art and color palette are phenomenal! The music was a bit jarring, had to mute the site it was quite loud. Would've been cool if enemies could drop hearts/some items or something. It was a bit frustrating to not know exactly which sides we could "exit" whatever current area we were in, so we just had to walk around trying to find a valid exit. No death screen, so had to refresh whenever I died. Loved the art and idea overall!

The sprites are really awesome. I loved the screen-switching, reminded me of old gameboy games! The music had a chiptune vibe as well that set the mood. Some crunchy sounds for hitting the plants would help player feedback. Pretty fun little game, could definitely see the concept being expanded. Hopefully you tackle everything on your list, sounds fun!

Really cool entry, the art/music fits the tone really well and I like the idea of landing in an infested area and trying to kill off the plants invading. I didn't really understand what the win condition was though; if it was to kill the enemies, or to explore and find some UFO to go in (I tried to go into a few but nothing happened). Also, it was a little frustrating switching screens and immediately getting hit. One other note was that I felt like the attacking/combat was really stiff since you get locked in place for the whole animation, maybe a faster animation would make it feel snappier. Nice job!
