LD52 — Harvest

Reaper of Souls by agentparsec 2023-01-09T01:54:03Z

I really like the mechanic of the souls you capture being a sort of compass to find your main target. Good atmosphere too, I felt like a vulture watching the NPC's fight so I could refill my balance meter

Reap What You Blow by polynoggin 2023-01-09T04:43:04Z

@mcnuttys Mouse aim was what I wanted originally, yeah. The catch is that the top half of the chair is attached via a joint to the bottom half, with both as rigidbodies. So I had to steer it using only physics, meaning I couldn't simply turn the top part of the chair to look at the cursor unfortunately. Getting it to look at the mouse cursor by applying forces meant I would've had to make a whole custom PID controller to manage the amount of forces needed to apply to make it face the target. So it was possible to do, but it was taking me too long so I scrapped it after spending an all-nighter and went back to the simple math of steering with arrow keys. I guess took the game in a somewhat "Getting Over It with Bennet Foddy" direction because of that, where the challenge is just to move around.

@achilnos The keycard should respawn next to the scanner after the door shuts, but I didn't have time to have it to let the player know about it the system unfortunately. Sorry if it was a bug though, I'll fix it if I can reproduce that happening.

@tanguylcr Thank you for playing to the end! I'm glad you liked the concept, I MIGHT see about polishing this into more of an arcade fighter if I can find time.

@osh-studio Yup! Making 3D models is my main hobby, so I'm glad you like the art despite how rushed it all was lol

@bobbo Don't worry about it, thank you for playing!

@noeloskar Thank you! I might mess around with this concept more in the future, so I'll definitely be sure to make the turning more responsive if I stick with keyboard movement

Planetary Mining CO. by Mcnuttys 2023-01-09T01:20:42Z

Looks great. Sound design and visuals are the heavy hitters here and it's fun for a bit dropping the little drills around. Seems to me like there's nothing other than placing the drills though. I don't know if I'm wrong and just missed something, but I couldn't find anything to spend the resources on or do other than click aimlessly so it felt a bit odd to have the counter of resources but no goal or anything attached.

Pulling Teeth by Deprecat 2023-01-12T23:20:18Z

The day part of the game was perfectly easy, but I can't really do the night bit, personally. Maybe it'd be easier with a controller, but it was way too hard for me to get a single tooth. I realized eventually it wasn't a certain amount of time you're meant to mash, but to fill entire the meter, but it's too much for me to mash enough to get it much higher than the bottom of the bar. A sort of red-light green-light mini-game instead may have been more my jam. Still a great entry though, I loved the 2.5D art and the humor of the scenario

Soul Harvest Inc. by Ian McD 2023-01-12T23:28:45Z

Loving the Isometric style. Mixing Where's Waldo with a clicker game is a cool concept.

Vessel Garden by Sciman101 2023-01-10T05:42:00Z

Very somber and dark and I love that! I felt bad taking the good traits away from the souls that had excess/dumping negative ones onto them and that is a really cool thing in a game

Tactile Harvest by JakobTheQuizGuy 2023-01-09T06:12:30Z

Everything from the way the farmer walks, to the animation of the hand is so smooth, especially for being made so quickly! The game concept is also very fun. I like that there's multiple things to manage, but all of them are handled via the core mechanic of plucking the fingers then chucking them at something. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see this end up with a great score in all categories.

Mutant Harvest by Lenan 2023-01-09T05:06:57Z

I couldn't figure out how to get high up enough to avoid the low swinging attack. Jumping over it from the side platform wasn't quite high enough. That aside though, I love to dodge stuff while shooting at something, good stuff!

Dynia by NoelOskar 2023-01-10T23:48:19Z

Very difficult, but the game feels silly enough that it doesn't feel too frustrating. Very grateful for the checkpoint system. Only real gripe is that the steering is inverted when reversing, that was very hard for me to wrap my head around.

Soul Harvester by fullmetal_automaton 2023-01-09T05:16:46Z

The second the game loaded up I was amazed by the atmosphere. I like how after enough people die, since they also become enemies it kind of snowballs and gets out of control.

Green King of Vegetables by MelekTaus 2023-01-12T22:51:12Z

Very fun trying to harvest all of the veggies in one round. The upgrade system kept things fresh and I managed to play it all the way to the end with all the upgrades!

Grim Phantom by CemKaanU 2023-01-12T21:53:42Z

Love the reaper model! You kinda become invincible after a few upgrades, but it's rare to play a jam game that doesn't have over-tuned difficulty so I wouldn't consider that a negative. Also very nice to see the screenshake and more are all toggleable in the menus, good stuff there.

Escape From Fartlands by brainles etertainment 2023-01-09T05:58:35Z

Took me a bit to figure out I'm meant to destroy the farms to sell from them. Real cool simulator, feels almost like something from a children's museum exhibit, in a good way.

Tractor Tony's Pro Reaper by Fabian Denter 2023-01-12T23:45:07Z

Great visual style and gameplay! I love the objective based, do as much as you can in 2 minutes style of the old pro skater games so this was right up my alley. A bit more aerial control may have been nice though, especially for the second level, where falling resets progress.

It is not time to harvest by Wolfraam1974 2023-01-10T08:01:33Z

Very tough game! Though some of the traps blend into the environment too much since they're the same color as the ground. Feels a bit unfair when you die to one you didn't see.

The Gluten Farm by rockford 2023-01-09T04:55:14Z

The game starts really peaceful but I like how it becomes like a minefield quickly. Genuinely got startled when I got hit by a chicken and it exploded with the loud sound lol

Farmtown Mowdown by Stevie257 2023-01-09T02:23:02Z

Surprisingly well polished for compo, love the cheesy voice lines and ps1 style.

Isle of Harvest by StevenColling 2023-01-09T05:47:26Z

Oh, the art style on this makes my heart happy. Big fan of the little sketch lines in the texturing and the roundness of the models.
