So pretty! The mechanics were fun once i understood them(The tooltips help). The goal of them game was not clear enough in my opinion. I definately play the full game

chum-chum 2023-01-08 23:29

Tooltips were very helpful! Fun & Interesting gameplay! The Art was really good as well.

gonzo13 2023-01-09 12:47

@wuppos nice turn-base gameplay, cool graphics! Interesting implementation of theme.

joey-shipley 2023-01-09 17:03

Pretty good entry, loved the art and game feel/flow. Would be cool it grow. :)

wuppos 2023-01-09 20:58

@ab0303 Thanks for playing and for your feedback! I was already afraid that the gameplay was not very clear and it seems that was true. What were you most confused about if I may ask?

ab0303 2023-01-09 21:43

@wuppos Honestly looking at it again it was mostly my fault for going through the description too quickly haha... I couldn't understand how the farmers would move but again i think it was mostly my fault(very few hours of sleep). implementing an explanation in game about the fact that you should protect the plants and not harvest them would probably help aswell but its a game jam after all. Great entry again.

wuppos 2023-01-09 21:49

@ab0303 I see! I dont think it is your fault at all. Many people will skim over the text :P It just means that I should clear up the gameplay if I decide to work on this further. Thanks a lot for your feedback and for responding! :D

theseusinabottle 2023-01-09 23:16

Good game. I found the sound effects to be a little to sharp and loud for my taste, but other than that it was really nice.

ani 2023-01-09 23:41

I like a good turn based puzzle! Tooltips were super helpful but I couldn't understand why the harvesters get to move twice sometimes?

lex 2023-01-10 03:09

Ohhh, even though the instructions were clear it took me a while to realize how the corn actually works. I assumed it could push the farmers, then I tested my theory and it didn't work so I thought it was broken. But I got it in the end, great game, very nice graphics!

iminsoftware 2023-01-10 05:08

Cool game, and really impressive art work. It looks great! Also I managed to lose after a little bit and got text about how something should be reset in the code? :P

wuppos 2023-01-10 11:37

@theseusinabottle Thanks for the feedback! I agree about the sound effects. They were a bit of a last minute addition :P

@ani Hmm, the harvesters should not move twice. I will look into that. Thanks!

@lex Thank you very much for playing and for your nice feedback! I fully agree that pushing around farmers would have been fun. The idea was to go for a little bit of 'into the breach'-like gameplay, and that would have definitely helped

@iminsoftware Thanks a lot for your kind words :D And that text is not supposed to show up XD Thanks for letting me know

rickylee 2023-01-10 15:12

This is so hard! ^^ but very addicting, im enjoying playing and I'll put some more time into trying to master it

lerg 2023-01-10 20:17

Really interesting concept, I think it can grow into a really nice puzzle game.

roblaro 2023-01-10 22:20

Nice little strategy/puzzle game! Good work on the pixel art too.

fabian-denter 2023-01-11 00:31

Very hard, but thanks for the tool tips. I think I didn't quite get the hang of it, but I tend to be bad at these kind of games. Visually it's very pretty and the sounds and music work well, too! Well done!

slush 2023-01-11 05:09

LOVE the art and music, well done on the atmosphere. Gameplay is fun too and very original! Nicely done!

andreia 2023-01-11 05:52

Great art and promising puzzle mechanics. Took me a while to get how the corn worked and how to not lose my plants. I also got the message to reset something in code when I lost one of the times ahah Nice work on this game, could definitely see it expanding

syudzius 2023-01-11 16:59

nice game and the art is very good :) at first I was confused about corn, but then I understood. didn't get many points, but the game was fun

annie-owl 2023-01-11 19:43

I'm not sure I've been able to figure out the optimal strategy for this game, because my crops are getting swept up very fast  Nonetheless, the concept is original and the game is very well made! I like the audio and your pixel art looks very cute.

profundity 2023-01-11 21:27

Beautiful art and design. I am having a hard time figuring out the strategy - would be great to be walked through placement for the first tutorial so I can see the mechanics in action (obviously it is hard to put anything like that into a compo game :P). Also - and this is a minor issue: there is some kind of high pitched audio artifact that plays when the grow and harvest rounds are proceeding, I find it pretty jarring. Otherwise the audio is lovely.

Overall fantastic job!

wuppos 2023-01-11 21:39

@profundity Thank you very much for your detailed feedback! I appreciate it a lot :D I myself also have not yet figured out the best strategy yet, so I cannot help much with that unfortunately :PBut I agree that better explaning how the mechanics work would have been good. If I decide to continue working on it I will definitely keep it in mind. I also agree about the high pitch noise. Its especially bad on the HTML version for some reason, but I did not have time adjust it anymore (as usual). Thanks again for playing!

greynovembergames 2023-01-12 00:34

Good quality game. I appreciated the tips, and the art is fantastic! Maybe I'm just bad but it felt pretty difficult.

daitli 2023-01-12 03:20

Wow this was easily the hardest puzzle game I've played in here so far. It took me a solid 30 minutes to beat it lol. It took me a hot minute to figure out how to properly use the scarecrows. Also the artstyle was great. Thanks for sharing, I had fun :)

peachtreeoath 2023-01-12 09:42

The concept is quite hilarious. It's like a fight in a phone booth, except instead of people it's farmers and sunflowers in a really tight space.

This was the highest score I could manage:

asdf2.PNG

The beginning was rough as I kept trying to use the scarecrows effectively. Eventually I just ignored them nearly altogether. The strat I developed was based on the aggro system.

Step 1: put 2 sunflowers together and then sacrifice your 3rd sunflower. The 3rd one makes it too hard to hide your other seedx.

Step 2: constantly place your corn where the farmers will end up, but away from your sunflowers so that they will draw them away in the opposite direction

Step 3: prepare for when sunflower seeds need to migrate. This is the most dangerous part of the game and you need to set up the farmers in a way that they'll give you space to safely migrate

I'd love to hear any other strats for this game. It's unusual (a good thing) which is why I spent a lot of time puzzling it out. Very unique idea!

corporation 2023-01-12 19:05

I'm the big into the breach enjoyer, so I really like the core concept of the game. Although it lacks more markings like when the plant will grow, or what the order's gonna be, and just explaining the basic rules more) But overall very good game, and the graphics is very cute and beautiful)

wuppos 2023-01-12 20:53

@peachtreeoath Wow, thank you so much for playing my game to such lengths! That made me very happy :D I am happy you enjoyed it. 24 is a super impressive score! I myself only got up to 16 or so. I will try your strategy in a bit for myself :P Its very clever to use the corn as a distraction for the farmers! I guess you can use it to keep kiting them around, because you can move the corn every turn. I hadnt thought of that yet :)

One of my strats which worked reasonably well (but required a pretty specific spawn) was to get a sunflower in a corner, with two scarecrows surrounding it. This meant the sunflower was completely safe while it grew. The following problem was keeping the sunflower alive after you have to move it once, which sometimes worked and sometimes did not :/

Thanks again for you kind words :D I enjoyed the game myself and would love to extend it a bit, so it is good to hear you enjoyed it :)

joker15277 2023-01-13 08:58

Good job. I like it

yorsh 2023-01-14 01:09

I'm a bit confused about corn, I figured they are not doing anything to the farmers, they only act like decoy right ? Mechanics are interesting nonetheless. Graphics and mood are great. I love the layout you went for, with the grid a little bit down to the left, and UI on the right.

chompdev 2023-01-14 20:51

Excellent pixel art and a sunny, Zelda-like vibe going on here! I really like the turn-based puzzle elements you've designed. The ability to block farmers with scarecrows was challenging to pull off sometimes, but a great idea. It's neat how there's a trade-off between planting sunflowers nearby for extra points versus spreading them out to avoid them all getting stomped at the same time.

I think you made great use of the 5x5 grid and there's a lot of strategy already, and a lot more to build on if you want to expand the mechanics further after the jam. Great work on your game!

she-wrote 2023-01-20 05:09

The core gameplay is fun and unique, there is a lot of potential here to be something even better. The graphics are wonderful, especially for a compo submission. I like it! Well done!

grid96 2023-01-20 11:58

the color palette is perfect! i love it! took me quite a while to understand the mechanics though.

erkberg 2023-01-23 20:34

Hey Wuppos, always a pleasure to play your creations! I love the visuals in this one and the concept is interesting and reminds me of Into the Breach quite a bit. It feels too much out of my control though, i.e. when a scarecrow spawns on an edge or gets pushed there you can't get it away again (might want to add a flower that pulls stuff!) and I was especially frustrated that I couldn't push the farmers around and ruin their plans, kinda expected to be able to do that. So, overall I still really enjoyed playing around and it has a lot of potential, just not yet fully realized. PS: Enjoyed the audio too, but the music doesn't loop and I think the one sound when it goes into the next phase is a bit annoying :D
