nice game bro I smashed all rabits
i scored 44 carrots for my first try ! I will come back later to do better ^^
Very fun and innovative! I love the retro look and feel.
This was such a cute looking and fun game
A good use of Pico-8. Challenging, but not too difficult. In the end however it was lightning-fast and there was no way I could keep up. Even so, I got a score of 50. Not sure how high that is in the scheme of things, but it's the best I can do up to now. A fun, well-designed game. Lovely music and sound effects. Nice retro graphics as well.

Great game! I got a score of 47 on my second try! Love the pixel art and gameplay!
I really like the style of the game, and its really fun, got 53 on my first attempt!
@igor-minenko - Nooooo! Anakin, you were supposed to help the rabbits, not smash them!
@roroto-sic Hey, 44 carrots is not bad! Let me know your high score later :-)
@steven-garberg Thank you! Yeah, pico-8's look is so cozy!
@mely Thank you! That's what I was aiming for :-)
@gamebuilder Thank you so much for your comments! Yeah, I did not have a lot of time to balance this game. The game has "hand-made" difficulty settings until 50 carrots, and after that it just gets 5% faster every 10 carrots. I think I won't see scores higher than 70 or 80 for this version, but you never know -- people have always surprised me when it comes to high scores!
@chum-chum Thank you! The pixel art in your game is lovely too!
@xdefault Great score! I put it on the game description! Let's see what is the high score before the end of the compo!
Love seeing another Pico8 game in the compo! this was super fun, love the bright and happy soundtrack and was able to roll around my controller's dpad quite well to whack the carrots quickly.
@hypernoodlejon Thank you! Pico-8 devs unite! (I wish there was a way to search games for tag in the game list, I'd love to play all pico-8 games in LD...)
By the way, what was your final score?
Short and sweet game, impeccably executed. Looks good, sounds good and plays good. I got 48 carrots.
Really polished wack a mole with great sound effects and music! Good job!
Great job! This feels super polished and cohesive. I love the in-game "scoreboard" of the tiny carrots piling up. Music and SFX are solid. Very cool.
This is very fun. Everything feels good in this game. actually i saw it in the first day and get inspired, so thank you!
My high score was 56, I played it very safe there, the sun going down ended me instead of the rabbits:

Super fun and addictive entry, I always had to immediately retry to get a better high score. It really gets you invested in the strategy of things (Do I play it safe? Do I risk going a bit wilder with the inputs even if that means maybe hitting a rabbit near the end?). Design of everything is super tight, the rabbit heads jumping around are cute, the sun visualization in the background is stylish and clear to understand as a timer, same with the clear visualization of how the game works with the arrow key input, and of course the carrot counter for the points, all around superb. Wonderful job!
@orion-black @elastiskalinjen @paulstraw Thank you for your kind words!
@kenneth-dd Thank you! It is nice to know that my blogpost inspired you! I will give a look at your game tomorrow night :-D
@captaindreamcast Congratulations on the new high score, I have posted it in the game description! :heart:
Nice game. Simple and fun. I really like the look and sound of it.
It's really hard to hit them near the top when there are multiple carrots out at once.
Nice game! I liked the way you had keyboard controls for a whack-a-mole, instead of mouse controls. The graphics were really nice aswell.
Super fun game. Got a highscore of 53. Cute pixelart very simple but addictive gameplay. Really good that it can end either by hitting the rabbit or by passing the time. harvesttaki.png
Really nice game! I loved all the graphics and particle effects - this was very impressive for a PICO-8 game! I also really liked using the sun and carrot piles for time & score counters, although seeing my exact score would've been nice (it was very hard to estimate from the carrot pile how close I was to my high-score). I thought the speed change happened according to the time and not carrots until I read the comments, which led to me to give up if I missed too many early carrots (as it was nigh impossible once it got fast). In the end, my strategy was to play carefully until reaching about 50, then to mash all buttons and hope for the best. It took multiple tries, but I managed to beat the high-score! Pressing Win+S returned me to the title screen unfortunately, but it's visible in the corner.

I really love the amount of polish you put into this game! The title screen intro is especially slick. I was only able to make it to 49 points. It really does get hard near the end!
Nice game! You need to have quick reflexes to play it tho, but I really like the retro style and sound effects!
The jumping carrots, the rotating sun, together with music works really well. Just joyful.
Love it! That's a great example of how a game can be good with simple mechanics. Also love the style and music/SFX!!
Has a very polished feeling, Good job, love the style , Would punch my keyboard again
Great little Pico8 game, well done!
Nice Pico-8 entry :D For how simple the mechanics are it was really well executed. The little animations, effects, and even the difficulty curve all worked well together. Managed to get 61- felt like to go much higher would rely on mashing and praying :P
Simple but fun! I like how fast paced it gets near the end. Really tricky to keep up, but the time limit gives you pressure to keep going. The energy provided by the pacing, visuals, and music help make the basic gameplay feel exciting. Nice work!
Solid game. Nice job.
pico gang! well polished game, love the setting sun as we get faster. could totally see play it again later on, this stuff is addictive
Fun and simple concept! I really liked the small details, like the carrot tops tracking score and the sun setting. After 50, my reaction time was just too slow for a single thumb on a D-pad :D
So cute! Simple idea, but nicely executed. I liked the music, the graphics… and I want to beat my score.
Damn, the speed after 50 points is a bit much for me, got to 53.

Always nice to see a pico8 game! The visuals here are clean, but the sound in particular is very satisfying. I also liked the music and how it fit the gameplay.
If I were to suggest some sort of improvement - at higher speeds grabbed carrots flying over other holes sometimes made it hard to notice if that's another carrot coming out of the hole. I suppose they could just disappear, but maybe it's just me :laughing:
Nicely done for 24 hours. Gave it a couple of attempts, got 42 and 56. The speed got to a point where I felt like I had to guess where the carrots were, and I missed carrots that appeared in the same spot as one I just got. Very challenging for my reaction time.
@justin-c Thank you for the comment! Yeah, I might need to tweak the sensitivity a bit, and maybe make the sensitivity of the carrots and rabbits different :thinking:
@joel-elias Keyboard controls FTW!
@rhewid At first it would end just by losing lifes, but then I noticed that you could just wait forever then... also, I really wanted to add a "sunset" effect!
@frogman It is so fun to add special effects in Pico-8! After the compo, I want to add some visual effects when the speed goes up (a plane?) and a few more bells and whistles in the game-over screen, which feels kinda bare right now...
@pianoman373 Thank you! A lot of the tricks I used here, I had learned in the "Lovebyte Tiny Code Christmas" series. Highly recommend it!
@wouterk12 haha, yeah, I tried to add a very slow start so everyone could play at least a little bit, but it is still very fast!
@resevoir Thank you :pray:
@kr0k @chaos-1001 @roblaro: Thank you! :two_hearts:
@meep I guess when the mechanics are that simple, you end up having a lot of time to add polish :-P I still want to add a "fixed" mode, where you can memorize all the rabbits and carrots. 61 was a great score!
@superpokeunicorn @plexsoup Thank you so much!
@bartalomew piiiicooo gang!
@jellzilla I want to add some difficulty settings in the future!
@loig Please beat your score and let me know how much you get!
@hexstart Yeah, I also usually die after 50 too! I can see how the carrots can cover each other... I could try to make it clearer :thinking:
@xeke-death Thank you for reading everything! :-) I will try to add more variety to the challenges in the post-compo!
Hell yeah, it's so cool to see another PICO-8 entry! Very well polished, hats off! Definitely will look into the cartridge and see how you did that, crazy!
great presentation, super polished, super satisfying to play!! Love it!
This is a cute game! Managed a score of 46 after a few tries - it sure does get fast later on! Using the daylight as the timer is a great idea, it's a very polished entry.
Funny mini-game, solid pixel-art, although maybe too bright. Feels like a rhythm game, although it's not (probably making it a rhythm game in the future would be a good solution).
It's not clear when it's too late to press on carrot, so probably allowing to press it while the sprite is visible is better solution. Or graying out carrot, when it's too late to press.
@zahkros, @chunderfins, @ani, thank you!
@danmerey Welcome to atari-neon zone! :-P The graying out carrots/rabbits is a good idea, though~~
Simple but fun, a perfect LD-type game! Probably some very minor quality of life improvements could be made, but honestly not too much needs to be changed!
Great game! Very complete all around! It goes insanely fast near the end and I felt challenged!
This was a lot of fun, I got 56 my first try!
I think it would be cool if you added a way to measure a persons average reaction time and posted it along side the score at the end. You could even break it down into the 4 different buttons to showing reaction time and success rate per button to help people get better next try.
Aw cute lil game there, love the carrot stacking and the sun in the BG 😊
Cute tiny game! I can't say I'm very good at it but the graphics are cute and the music was pretty good!! Well done! You could have gotten a few more plays from me with different difficulty modes that simply change the carrot's and bunny's speed right from the beginning. :)
Thank you, @trasevol-dog!
Extra modes (and a mode where the jumps are fixed so that you can try your muscle memory) are certainly something I wanted to do but got cut due to time limit!
Hahahaha! this has to be the funniest harvesting game I've ever played.
Nice! The music, sound, and juicy graphics were all pulling together to create a fun, engaging vibe. I also appreciated the lack of overbearing tutorial - the graphic effects and screen layout made it super-easy for me to just intuit how to play. The carrot's success-hit FX was especially nice, and reinforced the key moment really well. Also liked the sun disco-ball rays that made it feel a little more like a party.
Well done a super-polished entry!
@pkenney "The sun disco-ball makes it feel a bit more like a party" - this was EXACTLY what I was aiming for, thank you!
This was fun! Really liked the way you did the night and day cycles with the spinning sun effect. Also the carrots and rabbits hopping out of the holes instead of just popping up like whac-a-mole changed the game feel in a cool way -really enjoyed this -nice work! :D
harvesttatakiscreenshot.png
Thanks for submitting your game on the stream! Here’s the start of your game if you wanted to re-watch initial thoughts youtu.be/a12mtQSnQ2o?t=1629
Loved the art style and the day/night cycle, congrats on the great game!
@holysparks Thank you! Balancing this kind of game is hard.
@cappa-games 56 on first try? That's really good! Showing the average reaction time is a really good idea, and not something hard to do. I'll try to put it in the post-compo.
@chase-of-bass @bloodbane @Bobbo @ddrkirbyisq Thank you for the nice words!
@lomby Thank you for playing it on stream!
Ho my god, it is fast paced! I had fun slapping those carrots but at a certain point it was too quick for me. Enjoyed the experience anyway! A great pico 8 entry with a good ost. Nice work!
Thank you @jonathan-lorenz ! You don't want to know how fast my first version was XD. Balancing is hard!
I'm planning to make a higher range of speeds after the voting is done.
It's the classic whack-a-mole formula that gets me.
Fun and cute minigame. While the gameplay is simple I find it was a + in this games case and made the replay value for me higher at least. And as the above comment says, it gives of a classic formula that gets to one c:
