LD52 — Harvest

Dice Settlers by Jimbly 2023-01-09T17:02:21Z

First minute landing in the game, beautiful visual style and really appreciate the explanations provided in the top left corner. Nice idea to have the different sides of the die have their own level. The core mechanic is very enjoyable, it feels very well-balanced. I got a bit stuck at one point because I didn't realize that the Cuddle Room needed two tiles. Also took me a bit of time to realize that I could pan around, though also I only tried when I had expanded to the edges of the initial view.

Grow Golf by torcado 2023-01-09T14:42:24Z

A lot of fun, played it with a bunch of friends. Only thing I would say is that it took about 5 minutes before I realized that you could change your ball type(though a great sign that I was having lots of fun even without that feature).

Harvest Tataki - Whac-a-carrot by caranha 2023-01-09T21:15:46Z

The jumping carrots, the rotating sun, together with music works really well. Just joyful.

GMO Contained! by ghpxi 2023-01-11T22:22:30Z

This was fun. Really appreciated the tutorial — it answered most of my doubts and I got started splicing genomes right away. I also like the layout of the screen, you have got everything you need within reach. Felt hard and fun until I successfully bred a super-potato on day 5, perhaps it should be a little harder to get to the super-potato hybrid, but that is a balancing detail :)

Drillydown by Peter Jonsson 2023-01-09T15:52:43Z

Enjoyable puzzle game. Beautiful color palette. Both the music and the sfx feel spot on. I really like you have to harvest around the wildlife — refreshing. If I had to say one thing it would be that I still dont completely understand how bombs work when they explode. Clearly the explosion direction is dependent on its surroundings. Could perhaps be nice to design a couple of puzzles specifically aimed at helping the player discover bomb explosion behaviour. Web builds works for me in chrome on a mac.

Souls harvest by PlusMinus 2023-01-12T18:12:29Z

It is a quite nice concept to indirectly control the balance of a match with cards. I had quite a lot of fun with this. Lost very quickly a number of times but then figured out that the persistence of the traps offered one strategy through which to survive for quite some time. Also very much appreciate the pixel art and the music. It really comes together. I agree with others that it would nice with a bit more juicy feedback when you play a card as there is very little with some of the cards, especially the ones targeting your skeletons.

Market Restaurant by Pincushion 2023-01-09T07:48:45Z

I enjoyed the combo mechanic and the changing ingredients at the market. Was a little overwhelmed with all the text in the beginning. I ended up spending a lot of time waiting for the transition between the market and the restaurant to happen, this made me think that perhaps it could be fun with some kind of ingredient list or notebook mechanic to help the player remember what they want to buy?

Crop Rotation by ZwodahS 2023-01-11T21:30:29Z

Elegant game design. The dynamics and mechanics mostly explained themselves well. I think the different behaviours and traits of plants was designed really nicely resulting in a fair amount of different strategies being tenable. Figuring out these different strategies is fun. If anything I feel like providing some kind of visualisation of the day as it passes could help players understand how time works during a turn, this still feels a little fuzzy to me.

Octo Garden by AppoxGames 2023-01-12T16:54:08Z

Thank you for this, was fun. The octopus controller feels really nice to use — there is a, for me, enjoyable learning curve to it. As you get better with the controller you become able to do combos and control all of your octopus arms. I also quite like how the squid interacts with the different objects, it feels intuitive and fun. It took me perhaps a couple of play-throughs to understand exactly what the object do which seems reasonable. Like others, losing the octopus at the edge of the screen is the main friction I experienced playing — perhaps some kind of physical force repelling you slightly from the edges could be nice to have if you where to continue developing the game.

Shape Orchard by Binney 2023-01-09T15:04:09Z

I like how the mechanics integrate deeply with the visual style to create the game experience. Also feel like the color mixing mechanic could be taken in many interesting directions if you so desired. Want to mention: I don't know if there was supposed to be sound, but I could not hear any.

Corn Cannon by BangKerpow 2023-01-12T17:13:40Z

Enjoyed seeing a mountain of corn gradually building up next to the cannon. It was also fun to try and get the fences to fly as far as possible. I was half expecting to be able to shoot corn out of the cannon in the end.

I do want to mention that I only realized that you could lower and raise the canon after watching @yngvarr's video (thanks for sharing btw! Was fun to watch :). I thought the spacebar was the only way you could regulate how far the ball flew.

Worm Harvester 3 by Bosco 2023-01-09T08:15:32Z

I like how the farm and valhalla modes offer different kinds of fun, when I am bored of farm mode I go to valhalla and vice versa.

The game played well for me on Chrome, but on Firefox and Safari I got the following error when I tried to play:

Error The following features required to run Godot projects on the Web are missing: Cross Origin Isolation - Check web server configuration (send correct headers) SharedArrayBuffer - Check web server configuration (send correct headers)

Thanks all for playing the game! I really enjoyed making it.

@jimbly This game certainly started as an homage to Creeper World! Would be nice to build it out to a point where the player must tactically use the turrets and other buildings to reach the watergrass.

@pincushion Was really satisfying to design the roads, happy you liked them. Would love to build out more levels and increase the difficulty, that is certainly where the strategy would come in in full.

@pianoman373 Your point about the game being simply too easy is straight on! I ended up using almost all of my time implementing the core mechanics with perhaps too little focus on the play experience and level design. Hopefully I get to make an expanded version :)

@poietic-ruby You are so right, thank you for sticking with it despite how little help the game itself provides. Also great point about the length of the experience — next time I will increase the time, totally!

Vacuum by vividfax 2023-01-09T14:57:05Z

Love how the visuals and audio work together to really create a mood in this game. The colors changing with each playthrough made me play it again and again. It took me about a dozen playthroughs to realize how the planets hovering the sun can be used as a defense mechanicm.
