Interesting. It took me sometime to figure out how to pick/construct buildings, but it went smooth after that.
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD52 → Last Harvest

Neat game, I wish there were more levels! Reminds me of Creeper World. Audio was nice. A little unclear how to choose what to build (a little rollover effect would have solved that completely, I bet), and when selecting the person, I was surprised to not see a person placed down, but once I figured that all out, it was good (although I had enough money to just build over and place a harvester next to the bluegrass and win without building a turret, so had to try it again to see what the turrets felt like ^_^).
It also took me a few plays to see how to play. Those screenshots really helped.
It's a nice idea, and it was executed really well. My favourite part of this is how the roads connect when you're placing an item. It feels really good. The feedback is clear an immediate. It's satisfying seeing the lines connect. It looks like a spider walking the road.
Once the controls were understood, the game became really easy. That's the fault of the animated gif that you provided. It shows the optimal strategy, so there was little strategy required. I think the difficulty could be increased in a number of ways, maybe by making the dune more difficult to suppress, or by adding gathering locations.
Great music too.
I really like this concept. Really creative take on the theme, and well executed. My only issue was that the difficulty was far too low and the game ends too soon. I was able to win a match without placing any turrets at all which doesn't seem right. I think all it needs is a higher number of watergrass that you need to collect to win. I would really love to see an expanded version of this with more levels and higher difficulty.
nice concept, like a real time tower defense. It's always enjoyable to see original gameplay within Pico-8
More levels could really increase lenght of the game. the first one is a bit easy if you rush for the harvest whithout lasers
Just like most the others it took me a while to understand how the controls worked, the video helped a lot!
The vedio really helps. At first I didn't know how to play it.After a while,I began to understand it.Then the game seemed to be less difficule. There is only one problem, the game time isn't enough. It is a little game,I know it.After all it was made in 48 hours.Maybe you spend much time in the thought or art.But my fun of this game stopped as the game was over. And it just took me a very short time to win.Next time, increase the time, please.Overrall a nice game.Thank you for your game.Good job!
Thanks all for playing the game! I really enjoyed making it.
@jimbly This game certainly started as an homage to Creeper World! Would be nice to build it out to a point where the player must tactically use the turrets and other buildings to reach the watergrass.
@pincushion Was really satisfying to design the roads, happy you liked them. Would love to build out more levels and increase the difficulty, that is certainly where the strategy would come in in full.
@pianoman373 Your point about the game being simply too easy is straight on! I ended up using almost all of my time implementing the core mechanics with perhaps too little focus on the play experience and level design. Hopefully I get to make an expanded version :)
@poietic-ruby You are so right, thank you for sticking with it despite how little help the game itself provides. Also great point about the length of the experience — next time I will increase the time, totally!
pico gang! I really enjoyed this tower defence game, well done! would love to see more lvls
Felt a lot like creeper world ;D
Would have loved more level, was anticipating a long session of budget creeper world but the game was over before it really started :x
Overall a cool game i could see me spending more time with - if possible at least ;P
I really like the concept of this, with all the networks between units. Like others said, though, I wish there was more :D Could squeeze some extra levels with some combo of different desertification patterns/sources + bluegrass locations, and walls would add a lot in restricting building your network. That said, it might also be hard to squeeze into Pico-8 without extra optimization/constraints (like max upkeep, max outgoing edges per node, etc.)- I ran into performance issues fast by spamming buckets near the apples. Well done- really ambitious for Pico-8!
Nice game, I liked the concept. Maybe some in game explanations of what each thing does would be good? I had to randomly place things to get it (still, I won my first game by luck).
Really cool concept, awesome presentation. I loved building my little web, it felt great! :) at least until the console ran out of memory
Thank you for the game, the music was the best part, really really cool!
I won the game really quickly, though, before I even knew what was happening  2023-01-11_22-54.png
Maybe there should be a maximum of berries that you can collect from each patch, and new patches appear over time? This would give it a reason to use the turrets against the sand wave.
I really like the overall idea, though!
Very cool to see another PICO-8 entry! Especially one that uses mouse controls! Nice work, I will look into the cartridge files! Congrats
I'm not sure I figured out why you need roads exactly, and at first I was confused that I could build stuff but not everywhere, but it seems I just ran out of apples to build them. I guess this could have been more explicitly told by the UI. Otherwise, the game is maybe a bit short, but I liked the impending doom setting and the music.
I'm not sure what I'm doing so I've just collect more apples, place more turrets while harvesting water as early as possible.
fun little game! i think i broke it though xD image.png
