Welcome to my game.

triangle-point 2023-01-08 21:34

Fun good game theme was followed well

jakobthequizguy 2023-01-08 21:47

Yo! Excited to try your game out, but at the moment it lags horribly on my computer and I get the error message "LIGHTNING NEEDS TO BE REBUILT (79 unbuilt objects)" in the upper left corner.

jk5000 2023-01-08 22:09

@jakobthequizguy thank you for telling me about the "Need to be rebuilt"-issue. I believe I have fixed the issue now, but sadly I don't think it will help with the lag issue.

brandann 2023-01-08 22:22

very interesting game. very humorous. did it have more than one ending?

jakobthequizguy 2023-01-08 22:23

@jk5000 you're right, it still lags, but I decided to try it out anyways cause I like the games I've played from you previously. I looked around for a few minutes in the dark level but couldn't find all the success :( you've got something interesting and relatable here, that's for sure. I wanted to know what happens next. I've decided not to rate because I feel like I can't get a proper grasp of the game sadly, but it seems interesting. Good luck!

jk5000 2023-01-08 22:27

@brandann the game has 3 endings. One of them is a bit hidden.

cheesehead-games 2023-01-08 22:43

I almost didn't play this game cause it needed to be downloaded, then I almost didn't play it cause I had to download additional plugins than when I did play it I thought it was a cheap crappy bubbly bouncy game about getting trophies ...... wait is the echo saying something different than the first voice? ... ok .... why is the echo so pessimistic? HOLY CRAP THIS GAME JUST GOT DARK!!!!! ....oh... I get it, it's about the anxiety we devs go through while making a game, that's cool! ... on second thought this games hit way to close to home for me!

all in all, this game is awesome. the deep emotions it invokes is not something that's easy to do! awesome job!

luizgt 2023-01-08 22:49

Runs fine here. Loved the movement and camera controllers, but the 2nd part is a little too dark for me. Great job!

magno-chuntey 2023-01-08 23:23

nice audio! wishing you success

miltage 2023-01-09 06:48

You doing okay there buddy? :joy:

I enjoyed this Alice-in-Wonderland-esque trophy-hunting fever dream! Thought it was super clever that your echoes were saying something else entirely if you listened closely. I did think the "dark" level was a bit too long and repetitive for my liking though.

rickylee 2023-01-09 12:34

This game changed me.. I got both endings ^^ loved it!

connorwmackay 2023-01-09 13:39

I liked the voice lines! The mood of the game is great, loved the change in tone when it switched to the dark level. Only thing I'd say is that I wasn't sure what to do on the dark level, so was just walking around waiting for the voice lines, overall a good game though

riesyeti 2023-01-09 15:52

That twist at the end O:

cloughd 2023-01-09 18:06

A really interesting experience and message around those intrusive thoughts we get throughout life. I liked the charm of the visuals and the swinging of the camera, felt like I was skipping around when harvesting my "success".

christian-zommerfelds 2023-01-09 20:22

Haha pretty hilarious! Nice storytelling. I liked the overall polish. Finding the hidden objects was a bit tedious.

danmerey 2023-01-09 22:45

Deep (kinda). Didn't try to complete the game for the "bad ending", but I think there's one. I liked the game, although camera shaking on walk was not the best idea (ok for me, but a lot of people may feel motion sickness).

jk5000 2023-01-09 23:31

@danmerey I am surprised that you are the first to react on the head bobbing. I know that not everyone will like it, but for me it is an important part of the game feel. I will not say there is a bad ending, but there is more then one ending.

googlypoo 2023-01-10 01:13

This one had me exclaiming "WTF is this" :joy: Poignant, introspective. Not things I'd normally expect in a Ludum Dare game. I got the 'happy' ending. I think? I ignored the big empty trophy at the end.

Graphics are great, good audio. Made me think. You really went for something. Well done :)

jonqs 2023-01-10 10:50

Awesome take on the theme ! Remind me of The beginner's guide. The second part is really hard to navigate but it may be intended. Found two endings, i have no idea for the third one but i may try again. The audio on the first part with the echoed distorted line is really good. Congrats !

arron-fowler 2023-01-10 13:28

As I expect from you a thoughtful and interesting game. It flowed nicely and I liked the voice acting. Not what I was expecting mood wise, but I liked the way it revealed itself alot. The 'echos' were fantastic. I would have liked a countdown so I knew how many were left to collect in the dark, but thats my only feedback. Great work.

itzemii 2023-01-10 21:59

A pity it does not work on my computer, don't know why ... Looks interesting.

evil23 2023-01-10 23:52

Wow, that's kind of depressing. Maybe I just got the bad ending.

lex 2023-01-11 00:04

We love you.

jk5000 2023-01-11 08:42

@evil23 Year it sound like you got the sad ending.

soonthespoon 2023-01-11 08:44

Very nice game, had to play it twice for both endings! Excellent idea and execution. I like the absurd atmosphere and the sweet message behind. Excellent work!

poietic-ruby 2023-01-11 14:10

It is a really good game with 3D.I enjoy playing it in fact. The world scene is strange, though. It really brings me back and reminds me of the love of playing 3D game.I harvested a lot because of your game.Overall a nice game!Great job!!!

smashcrate 2023-01-11 17:14

Cool concept of story telling. Love the atmosphere/mood that you created with visuals in such time constraint. Really enjoyable  .

breaddysticks 2023-01-11 22:00

A deep concept for storytelling. I like the attention to detail where you can hear the negative voice hidden behind the positive voice. The dark level does feel very long, especially if you can't find the trophies. Good music and good graphics.

taikinaaa 2023-01-12 14:20

Great game!

roroto-sic 2023-01-12 17:25

i cant play it without installing microsoft visual c++ runtime, first time i encounter that.

maytch 2023-01-12 18:11

Deep game, didn't expect that in a jam. I didn't have issues finding the trophies in the dark, and I liked the head bobbing.

jk5000 2023-01-12 18:16

@roroto-sic there is not a lot games made in Unreal Engine in this game jam, but for games made in this engine is 'microsoft visual c++ runtime' necessary to be installed, before you can run those games.

asfdfdfd 2023-01-12 19:43

I AM SUCCESS.

multipixels 2023-01-12 19:51

Very cool take on the theme! I enjoyed the storytelling and voiceovers. The only thing I'd suggest is not making Escape the quit button. I tried to pause the game once and hadda restart because of it. I did have a tougher time finding the last couple trophies in the dark, but managed in the end.

bubblemapgaming 2023-01-12 21:04

Really enjoyed the voiceovers and general theme of the game, however the head bobbing combined with the moving trees made me feel a bit queasy pretty quickly (maybe that's just me) and I'm glad it was gone in the night level. Overall a solid game and an interesting introspective take on the theme

bentglasstube 2023-01-12 21:29

I really enjoyed the voice lines, especially how the echoes slowly changed. The night level was a bit tedious with having to just wander until you found the invisible triggers. It might have been better to have a subtle visual clue to their positions. Really great mood with the tone of voice and music changes. I had to play twice to see if there was a different ending.

jk5000 2023-01-12 21:40

@bentglasstube I hope you found another ending. The game has three endings, but I believe one of them is really well hidden.

taxol 2023-01-13 08:46

The camera shaking match the rhythmic music and tree's dance very well, I like the feeling.

brinegamers-productions 2023-01-13 15:14

Fun game! That's all I really have to say other than mild lag.

boaz4 2023-01-13 15:43

Unfortunately the camera shaking made it a little hard for me to play (but that's probably due to my laptop - the game was lagging, and that made the shaking extra uncomfortable).

But I enjoyed the game itself :) The narrative was fun, and a good take on a pretty important topic.

In the second part I felt a little lost - and although this might be the feeling you intended to evoke, it was not clear to me, and I was wondering whether I misunderstood something important that I was supposed to do.

hayricakir 2023-01-13 16:54

Wow, that change in the atmosphere gave me goose bumps. Good job mate!

chickensiodev 2023-01-14 04:54

interesting take on the theme! really liked the shift in tone from the initial harvesting success!

spyranteros 2023-01-14 13:44

Yooo, didn't expect that plot twist 🤣 Pretty awesome game!

zirrrus 2023-01-15 12:09

Aww :)

hulya 2023-01-16 12:34

Quite an interesting approach to the theme, I loved that. The camera shaking was a bit disturbing. I enjoyed the graphics and the overall atmosphere. For the ending, my playthrough ended just as I was turning a corner and it felt like a cliffhanger/a bit incomplete. Maybe getting out of the labyrinth in a wide meadow like place could have been a better ending for success. (Like discovering the real success should have felt like freedom, not chains.)

jk5000 2023-01-16 13:13

I removed this message because it contain some ending spoilers.

hulya 2023-01-16 14:32

@jk5000 I understand what you want to convey. This is not the same incomplete feeling I get from the ending. Incomplete as if saying "try all you want but you won't get there.". Success itself wouldn't mean reaching an empty wide meadow either, it would be just a new state of mind. Even turning the corner could have been enough. Some spark of change and slight hope. But it ended in the same enclosed area where I started the game. But of course that is all about personal preference and the way you want to tell the story. I enjoyed the overall experience nonetheless. :D

jk5000 2023-01-16 14:45

@hulya when I read your message again it sound a lot like you did never got to the end.

dk-game-labs 2023-01-19 08:11

I like this game. I wish you success too!

mad-brokli 2023-01-19 22:06

Really loved the audio and multiple endings!

island-jam-2-group-3 2023-01-19 22:07

Wasn't expecting a game with a teaching, nice one :-D Also loved the atmosphere and the "echoed" messages.

lfreinoso 2023-01-20 11:49

Good message! I loved the game, I also participated in JAM creating games at Unreal, challenging. Great job, congratulations,

a-bond 2023-01-21 20:22

I haven't noticed any lags. Is that a SUCCESS?

kekkodude 2023-01-24 11:42

This put a smile on my face, Good job, may YOU also get to harvest some succses :kissing:

raggedyjam 2023-01-26 05:57

That felt kinda strange. Great music and nice feel I like how the plants and trees bounce around. I also liked the mood change that happens. Great choice in visuals there simple and work great. Well done putting together such an experience. Got the good ending on my first try.

cole-and-jordan-studios 2023-01-26 19:00

Very interesting! An interesting message and the use of 2 endings makes a lot of sense. I did get stuck looking for the very last invisible one for a while but I think the game just gave it to me at some point? Love the philosophical ideas and the use of the echo voice as like an inner dialogue that doesn't believe the affirmations. Cool stuff, a great submission!

Thank you all for playing, rating and giving feedback to the game!

I'm actorly really happy with the game I made for this LD, but I'm not that happy with the ratings/respond I got on the game. When that is said, I am not surprised, and it not because the ratings or respond is super bad, and I do believe some of you really like the game. But I actorly believe it is better then you might think, but I done some things that I knew would make it so not all of you would like.

Anyway I will still say thank for another great LD, and I hope to see all of you in LD again.

arron-fowler 2023-01-29 00:21

@jk5000 well done. Top 25% in everything is a great success in my eyes. Well done you beat most. Until next time my friend

jk5000 2023-01-29 08:48

@arron-fowler thank you again. You are are not right about top 25%, because this is a compo game, and there was this time 424 compo games. I don't have an exact number of games that got enough rating but I guess it is less then 70%. This mean about 297 compo games got a rating. And if this is about right, the game is near the bottom of the fun and theme category. It is about in the middle of the field in the overall, innovation and graphics category. And it got to the top in the audio, mood and humor category.

When that is said, I have a long time ago learned, that what I think of the game is more important then ratings or random comments on the internet. I already when I made the game knew that this would most likely not be the most popular game. But I had hoped more people had got a bit more out of it, but I also knows that this kind of games is not really is a good idea for a jam game.

arron-fowler 2023-01-29 11:41

Yeah sorry my bad. I was talking to my daughter about how strange it is to get the ratings. It's good to get feedback and there is an urge to see where you fit in the greater scheme of things. The thing is the scores are so subjective, the scales are so personal that it does not mean much. For example one streamer played my game and showed the ratings they gave. Pretty much 5s across the board. It was a buzz and unexpected but it definitely got my hopes up. Different people have different instincts on how to score the ratings, it makes the actual comparison of scores between games almost meaningless. I now am happy with 3.5 and over. It means a good enough job was done. I think like you I don't deliberately make my submissions with a goal of winning. I like to challenge myself first and foremost. Part of that is knowing that my submission is not ever going to be 'finished' and that it won't be everyone's cup of tea. Art should not be easy, but in a competition it can work against you. Who wants to be bland any way? I think we can both be comfortable that no other games quite like ours were made. I did not play anything else like yours for sure. Being able to be original should be reward enough in it's self. Kudos to you my friend

jk5000 2023-01-29 12:07

@arron-fowler I agree with you, and I am happy with the game I made.

I have also played the newest version of your game, and I still like the idea. I will say a bit better tutorial would have been great. I also think I got way to many water blocks. It could also have be idea that the most basic cards is in top of the screen instead in the bottoms. But the idea is still fun, and it could very well be a game you can sell on Steam, and it could also be as a relaxing mobile game.

arron-fowler 2023-01-29 12:35

@jk5000 Thanks for trying it. There is still lots to do. The way the cards come out is on the to do list. Lots still to add before getting to balancing. I am going to try and commit to this one for a while. I will try swapping the standard to the top. I am planning a series of 'levels' which will act as a soft tutorial. Mobile is in the back of my mind as well. Time to roll my sleeves up and push on.
