LD52 — Harvest

Harvest From Your Success by jk5000 2023-01-12T19:51:57Z

Very cool take on the theme! I enjoyed the storytelling and voiceovers. The only thing I'd suggest is not making Escape the quit button. I tried to pause the game once and hadda restart because of it. I did have a tougher time finding the last couple trophies in the dark, but managed in the end.

Reapo Man: Death Who? by LandoSystems 2023-01-12T20:23:20Z

Really nice!!! I loved the gameplay loop, the pacing of the game was just right, the game kept me hooked right until the end, there's nothing I can complain about. Well done!

Super Fruiters by Wisch 2023-01-11T02:37:14Z

I had some issues playing the game in the Ludum Dare embed, so I downloaded the zip and it worked just fine!

I enjoyed the idle aspect of the game once you manage to get sprinklers and harvesters. The tasks also encouraged me to keep playing further.

If you'd like to keep working on this, I wanted to let you know that there's a small bug where you're able to sell/make seeds even when you don't have fruit, resulting in a negative value. Having any fruits as negative values also ended up disabling crafting for all fruits.

Fun concept, and I can definitely see this being expanded upon as a bigger idle/clicker game if you plan on continuing this project.

Farming Termina-Boar by MatLab 2023-01-12T01:39:49Z

The graphics were amazing, and I loved the puzzles. The introduction of the combine harvesters caught me off guard and I was pleasantly surprised. The tutorial was handled fantastically as well.

That being said, I wish that there was at least some sounds incorporated into the game. While the graphics are top notch, the game feels empty without audio feedback or music.

Update: I just tried out v1.1 and I was super happy to hear music! I'd suggest that scene changes don't interrupt the music so abruptly if possible. A pause menu with volume controls would also be nice too.

Hex-Yield by AndideBob 2023-01-12T02:04:00Z

I loved the graphics and music! Such a unique take on implementing Harvest into the gameplay as well. The only thing I'd be able to recommend is being able to click on another tile while in the tile select menu as opposed to clicking the X each time. Thanks for the game, I had a blast!

My Bloody Harvest by vivek.sharma20 2023-01-13T19:47:02Z

The raw gameplay is fun and has some potential. With some polishing and more game planning, I could see this being a really fun game! Well done!

Escape From The Ostrobothnia by Tomssuli 2023-01-12T18:27:45Z

I liked the concept, and from what I'm seeing in the comments, there's a lot more to the game than what I got to discover. I got to admit though, the game started off to slow to motivate me to continue and see more. I didn't enjoy having to go to the shed every time I needed to switch to another item.

I'm sure there's upgrades to make the game feel faster and less tedious, but I didn't feel hooked enough to keep playing. I do want to say that I love the music, the game matches the theme perfectly, and the controls felt smooth. The cutscene at the start was nice too.

Fruit Market Express by benk 2023-01-13T00:30:46Z

Nice, short and sweet! Clearly defined instructions and controls, and a score system! I liked the music and sound effects as well. Nice work!

The Gatherers by Sisyphean Games 2023-01-12T03:05:03Z

Very fun game! I was confused at first but quickly got the hang of it. This reminds me of the early web flash game era of the internet, and this game would've done really well back then. I can see this game being optimized too, I love the idea of speedrunning it.

I got mixed up between the fish and rock icons at first since they're the same color, but that might have been because I hadn't unlocked fishing at the time. All in all it's a great game and I enjoyed playing it!

Rainbow Souls by Fedora 2023-01-12T19:03:49Z

Had the same problem with the browser. Tried both in Chrome and Microsoft Edge.

Downloaded the standalone version and had some fun with it, but all my feedback would be repeating what feor also mentioned. Seeing # of souls while brewing is important, since I always brewed on the customer screen. The music panning was nice, but felt too exaggerated. Toning it down would be nice. I also wish I was able to preselect a seed type and just click once for each crop tile as opposed to having to choose the seed type each time I want to plant something.

I enjoyed the gameplay loop, and liked the small Undertale reference you had. Well done!

Corn Cannon by BangKerpow 2023-01-12T01:21:01Z

Had lots of fun playing it! The controls were simple to grasp, the movement felt smooth, and blowing up the cow caught me off guard. It'd be interesting to be able to get corn that the actual cannon-ball passes through as well, as opposed to just the exploded ones.

Elite Brain Harvester Zombie by Pulni 2023-01-12T01:49:30Z

I loved the audio design for the game. The additional tune when a boss came was really nice too! The weapon variation was nice and the upgrades made sense. The fading out of the sounds when turning off music/sounds was a nice touch too!

I have very little to suggest, but I wish there was a pause menu. I only realized this after trying to pause to come back and write this comment. Otherwise, the game kept me engaged and I had fun playing it. Nice job!

Cyber Shapes by mhorth 2023-01-12T02:37:03Z

Wow! It's incredible how much you were able to fit in the game in 72 hours! A leaderboard, great shader graphics, impressive main menu system, and a rich gameplay loop.

My only feedback would be to incorporate your tutorial within the gameplay itself. I skimmed over it and didn't realize the harvest ability was a thing until reading the comments and Ludum page description again. It's a very nitpicky thing, and I'm sure you had it planned, but I couldn't think of anything else. Very fun game, very polished, solid 10/10.

Soul Gardener by taikinaaa 2023-01-12T01:29:16Z

I enjoyed the idea of having to go back to your garden after each hunt out. Reminds me a bit of Cult of the Lamb with the casual gameplay following each rougelike run.

The lack of background music + the harsh movement sounds were a bit hard on my ears, and I wish there was also a volume bar in the game too. I tried to open up a pause menu, which ended up exiting the game :(. The enemies were sometimes frustrating when they'd stop moving at a height level that I wouldn't be able to shoot them without having to do awkward jumping moves. However, I did enjoy the movement and how smooth it felt, as well as the camera. As some of the other comments suggested, a more horizontal focus would've been better since I found myself falling down straight to the door in some levels.

That Wasn't Wheat... by sammot 2023-01-13T20:45:25Z

I had a blast playing this with my friend. I struggled so much to hit the 40% mark, always confusing the rocks for pigs. My friend managed to do it first try LOL. Very well done!

Billiard Hero by thyoi 2023-01-13T20:06:20Z

Amazing how much you got done within 48 hours! The art is fabulous, gameplay was exceptional! Loved it, well done!

Combative Crops by AntonioTheReis 2023-01-12T18:37:08Z

Had fun playing it! I noticed that sometimes the slimes would escape the pen, and since you cannot attack outside it, it's extremely hard to get rid of the new slime. That's the only real issue I discovered. The movement was smooth, attacking felt good, planting the slimes to make more slimes was fun. I wish the sign outside your house could display the controls, so that I wouldn't have to go back to the Ludum page to see them though.

Slime graphics are cute :D.

Feeding Time at the Church of the Cosmic Void by Alex de la Cour 2023-01-13T00:40:24Z

Love the graphics, and the puzzles were nicely designed! I do wish that the tutorials were shown within the actual level (like an engraving on the walls). It does feel like the mechanics are introduced too fast and all at once, separating the mechanics between more levels would be beneficial. Overall though, I loved the gameplay and puzzles!

Hard Hat Harvest by Grif_in 2023-01-13T00:16:19Z

It was really hard to understand what I'm supposed to be doing :<. I don't have prior experience with games like these, and a tutorial would have been really appreciated. Edit: oops i don't know how i made those extra comments, my bad!

Hard Hat Harvest by Grif_in 2023-01-13T00:16:19Z

Veggie Survivor by Hyster 2023-01-13T20:28:08Z

The movement speed felt too fast and slippery. Adding an animation for the auto-attacks would also make the game feel livelier. However, for a vampire survivor type game, the gameplay is executed nicely. The enemy variation was nice to see! Nice job!

Goldstriker by wolkp 2023-01-12T19:11:43Z

Nice gameplay loop, loved the Slay The Spire-esque card system, it fit in really nicely with the gameplay. The sound effects, particularly explosion, were really harsh on my ears and dominated the music too much though.

Harvest Earth by Seagoingmanatee 2023-01-13T20:13:41Z

I love the gameplay loop! I agree that it started off slow, but the pacing was just nice later into the game. Nice job!

Crop Rush by Multipixels 2023-01-12T00:35:01Z

@accatosh There was! I might have needed to give better indicator though. Clicking the escape button while in the game brings up the pause menu, allowing you to go back to the main menu or restart the game. I'll make that clearer in the future, thanks!

Crop Rush by Multipixels 2023-01-12T02:20:58Z

@sonicpixelation, @fullmetal-automaton, @rainsong Thank you for the nice comments!

@togo-sepultraut Thinking more about it, I do agree with your remark about the timer. In a future version I'll make sure to remove it, or at the very least make it a toggle. Thanks for the feedback!

@leorototo I've never heard of Quell, but I just quickly checked it out. I'm glad you had fun with the game!

@harmofish Could you elaborate on what you mean by single mode? What could I do to make the game more stimulating?

Crop Rush by Multipixels 2023-01-12T20:26:30Z

@rincs @pete-valeo Thanks for playing the game!

@harlow I got the same comment from someone else about the reset button. I'll make the controls more clear in the future. Thanks for checking Crop Rush out!

Crop Rush by Multipixels 2023-01-15T04:26:16Z

@mhorth Thank you for your kind words! I do agree that incorporating the timer created confusion for some, so I'll make it more clear in a future update about how stars are calculated

@qooorti @alex-de-la-cour @gabrimer I'm glad you had fun! Thanks for playing!

@phillip-scott I haven't gotten that feedback from others, although I'll still take that into consideration! I felt the same way about it at first and modified some movement values until it felt right, but I might toy around with it more. Thanks for playing!

Crop Rush by Multipixels 2023-01-16T18:23:05Z

@jakubbala I initially wanted to do that and couldn't decide whether to do it or not, so I stuck with the safer option. I couldn't come up with a logical explanation for why a harvester wouldn't be able to go back on harvested tiles. Also, since I went along the lines of having to harvest every crop as opposed to having an end destination, that would always force players to aim for what's currently the 3* goal. I wanted players to be able to experience all levels without having to get the perfect path on the previous level, which is why I opted for the star system. Players who want to see the entire game can breeze right through it, while players who enjoyed optimizing each level can also feel achieved when getting 3 *s.

Thanks for the compliments on UI! Most of my experience in Unity is making games with heavy focus on the UI, however the UI design isn't my strong suit. It means a lot to get that compliment, thank you!

Brutal Harvest by Harlow 2023-01-12T20:36:00Z

Had a blast playing the game! The art is amazing and weapon variety was fun too! I wish it were possible to pause the game though. That aside, great work on the game!

Traumascape by Qooorti 2023-01-12T20:02:18Z

I'm glad you still submitted this! I loved the art-style when moving through the hallways. Just like Avi, I'm impressed you managed to do all this in Python. Nice!

LD52 - Space Cargo Harvest by megafatsquirrel 2023-01-12T20:15:45Z

Fun start to a game, I can definitely seeing this being expanded into a full game! Nice premise, a goal that everyone can relate to, well done!

Meat Harvester by Alex Rehberg 2023-01-12T02:16:20Z

I like the concept, however I found myself often confused. There isn't any cue to see whether I have stems or chompers selected.

The audio matches the mood perfectly though and loved it.

Egg Egg Chicken by JUMPirate 2023-01-12T20:07:25Z

I didn't ever think to incorporate a tower defense game into this theme! I enjoyed the innovation. The game was a bit more difficult for me since I'm currently on a laptop, but I got some decent progress! I really wish there was sounds and music, but from what you did have, the game was really well done!

Five Nights at Papa's by Multipixels 2023-05-01T12:10:08Z

@kylethecoder Thanks for the heads up! I just made it public now.
