I'm having a bug where the main menu is cut off in the HTML5 version, so I can't start the game. I'll give it another try once it's fixed though!
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD52 → Ratalie's Escape

Oh no! Could you tell me more about your browser and device so I can try and fix it?
I'm havig the same issue. I'm on windows 10 on chrome browser. Looks fun though!
This could benefit from some indications of how many kernels I've eaten, how many rats I've saved - perhaps a score system? Trying to catch the kernels in midair is quite fun.
I think I have fixed the menu being cut off. As far as I can tell, it was only some overflowing text and the rest of the game worked as intended. Thanks for the feedback everyone!
Yeah, I wanted to get an indicator for the rats saved count but rant out of time. If you make it to the end you can see it on the win screen. I realize now I should've also shown the score when you loose.
bug.png I am getting this, windows 10 Chrome. Sad I can't try it out.
@masternoob So nice that you can help to your friends in this game. Good stuff! P.S. I faced the same issue in Chrome  but I could play.
Cute little game and pretty solid gameplay! I also just plain love me a rat platformer. There needs to be more.
I had a similar issue as GreyNovemberGames but was still able to play a bit. (I'm on Firefox.) It might help to add a fullscreen option to the itch.io page, that way it should adjust automatically to the resolution.
@greynovembergames Thanks for the screenshot! I've enabled full screen on itch as @hekateras suggested. I hope that works for now. I can't really reproduce the issue on my device.
Harvest mouse?I like it!
Very fun game, good luck to win!
Thank you! Enjoying this a lot now.
Very unique idea hehe! Sometimes I got very unlucky with the kernel spawn but it's a pretty fun game. Like how it looks too.
Good job ! Fun and adictive
Really really hard!! I'm actually impressed by the depth the mechanics have as a whole.
Kernels: 1027, Rats: 67
Good game. Very on theme! Would be nice with some more varied holes. Jumping feels a bit stiff and it is always a full jump, making the long hole require 3 full jumps every time which makes it hard/impossible to optimize my jumps. Good idea, power ups are cool.
I love this idea for a game! Never come across a game that's based around this mechanic, you benefit from staying closer to the source of danger. Really impressive, though super difficult as well
the idea is clever, to play as the one who need to escape from the one who harvest. a bug that just make the kernels disappear right after spawn ruined the game though...
Thank you everyone for playing and the kind feedback.
@streq Thank you for saying that. Really glad it turned out well. I think it might be a bit easier if the controls were a bit more smooth, especially the jumps.
@sharploaded Congrats on making it to the end. Variable jump height was absolutely on my list. This is the first game I really made in Godot and I just couldn’t pull it off in the time. I also wanted more varied holes and even attempted procedurally generating them. This however turned out terribly messy and unusable so I needed to opt for this simpler version.
@kenneth-dd Unfortunately I ran out of time before I could fix that. As far as I know this happens when the harvester gets too fast and destroys the kernels before they fly away. The trick right now is to use the emp a lot to prevent it from gaining speed - but you’re right, it shouldn’t happen.
Pretty fun concept. It's not clear what's the goal. I can see 3 of them, but I don't know which is more important: - Make it to the end (so basically run away from the harvester) - Collect more kernels (so ignore using abilities) - Free as many rats as you can (so spend kernels)
Cute game, the rats are very long. I enjoyed playing it!
You have a great game! The story is nice, and explains it all. However, I found it super hard, for two reasons (maybe that is just me, I don't read comments above) * Keys (A + D + 1 + 2) are not easy on a non-qwerty keyboard, and without dedicated numpad. (I have to press Shift + 1 in order to have EMP or telepathy). Thoses are great bonuses by the way. * There is not enough gravity when the rat is jumping, it takes way tooooo long to start the fall and land. This is frustrating to me.
I reached only 1/5 of the line, even on my 8th try.
But I loved it, I would like to play a smoother version.
Nice! First I thought: that's a simple game. Then I noticed that I have to rescue the other rats. Then I noticed that I can collect the corns. Then I had "the power". Cool! The necessity to go back to collect corn/ to be not too fast is great! Controls felt unresponsive, the jumping felt not really too control-able. I did not really get when the rat jumps higher, there were at least cases where the rat jumped very high. But it might just be me, I am normally used to play with controller. Overall cool idea, mechanics and it fits the theme!!!
Good: - Clean art - simple concept - Progression UI
Bad: - I was very close to the harvest machine but no kernels spawned sometimes (even when I only had a low amount) - There is no incentive to save a rat, I had the best success to just be an egoistic rat and run straight through
Ugly: - Jumping on space additionally would have been nice - Sometimes I received kernels without actually collecting some
Had no problem starting the game. And it was quite fun, I managed to save a lot of my rat friends (though, they might have been save under the earth anyway? ;)) I agree with one of the other people who commented that the abilities on 1 + 2 is not really ideal, maybe q and e would have been a choice worth considering. But otherwise, a fun and solid entry, well done!
I liked the wavy way Ratalie runs :D
Fun little game) art style was good, but some pixel art was blurry, should look at the pixel filtration settings in unity.
It's hard. It seemed that if the kernels landed past the screen, they wouldn't exist. So I would let the tractor get close, then I would run as fast as I could to gather some kernels. For my best run, I was able to finish, but I left so many rats behind. I wonder if it's possible to save them all? Is it just a coincidence, or are all the rats I saved on the win screen? Nice touch, if so.
I really like the progress bar, showing where I was relative to the tractor and the end. It would have been cool to see status effects on the bar too. The art/animations were nice. It's a really clean look, and the colours really popped. In contrast to some comments, I thought the controls felt pretty good. On a querty keyboard at least, I found WAD12 to be convenient.
Nice choice of abilities. There's only a few things going on, but it feels so complete. Nice job.
Cute game! It was a bit difficult, but I liked how I had to try to keep a balance between staying close enough to the harvester to eat the grain, but not so close that I lost.
I liked the fact that the harvester is both the impending doom and the provider of kernels for the super powers, that was a really nice touch. Well done!
I enjoyed the mechanic of keeping a safe distance from the harvester while still getting kernels. The slow fall makes saving your friends a little annoying, so having the option for telepathy was nice too. Well done.
This got me hooked directly :) Very great idea and fluid gameplay. I am impressed what people come up with ideas like you ..that is amazing.
Fun experience. It's a well crafted little game, given a little more time I can see you guys easily implementing different shaped holes, powerups etc. etc. but I think this is a great entry for a game jam! good job!
Very interesting concept, I really like the kernels mechanic of having to stay near death for your abilities to work. The first thing I would look into is the snappiness of your movement, floaty jumps is a buzzkill for me. Simply increasing your gravity while increasing jump height would do wonders in my opinion. If that makes it feel too easy I'd balance the difficulty in other ways (ex deeper holes, faster harvester, etc)
With that said, great entry for a compo, thanks!
Fun concept! The biggest problem I feel is that the controls/platforming feels a bit awkward. I think that comes mostly from the rat being bigger than the tiles in the environment.
