garett-cooper 2020-04-21 02:37

Lots of fun to be had, this could definitely make a successful mobile or flash game if fleshed out a bit.

ranjan 2020-04-21 02:45

Fun and relaxing!

takayamushi 2020-04-21 03:06

Fun little game! Was relaxing with the music and all!

melomel 2020-04-21 03:10

Really fun and funny! Nice concept.

beanslasher 2020-04-21 03:20

This was an addicting game, I felt zen while playing :P I agree with @garett-cooper this could be a really fun mobile game!

shaubbyplayz 2020-04-21 04:28

Addictive

doodlebrisk 2020-04-21 04:36

Great concept. I had a hard time getting into houses and a whole bunch of trouble getting out of the toilet :P

trifectuh 2020-04-21 04:41

This brings on some serious Desert Golf vibes, plus flinging a fish around from pond to pond is super fun. Great job. My only minor complaint is that the velocity felt inconsistent between jumps, but that probably just comes down to some finicky physics nonsense. Easily overlooked since the game itself is fun :)

zillix 2020-04-21 04:42

Really cute and fun, loved the concept! Great job.

dxk2294 2020-04-21 05:46

Love the art style! My only complaint is that I feel it takes a little too long for the fish to come to rest and give control back to the player. Very relaxing experience!

welby 2020-04-21 05:52

Fun little golf game but the ball is a fish, nice!

alpharock6 2020-04-21 05:57

Fun game! I enjoyed the touch of safe water surfaces in the home, and the physics material changes like bouncing on the bed :)

ryan123rudder 2020-04-21 06:35

@dxk2294 Thank you! I will definetly look into that as I would agree, it feels too long for sure. I'll see if I can fix that (I'm not allowed to fix that during the voting period right? Or would that fit under bug fixes?)

ryan123rudder 2020-04-21 06:36

@alpharock6 I appreciate that you noticed that! Just a little bit of extra work that I feel like added at least a little bit more fun to the game :)

alphazeba 2020-04-21 06:36

lol very good, very tough. I was confused at the beginning how to get out of my fishbowl. But once i managed to get out I was free to flop about to my heart's content. Good job!

ryan123rudder 2020-04-21 06:37

@trifectuh Is the difference in velocity due to being in or out of water? Originally this gap was much larger, with the fish barley flopping on land. It was increased to give more mobility, but maybe they are too close now that it feels finicky. Thank you for the feedback!

ryan123rudder 2020-04-21 06:39

@doodlebrisk Thank you! A lot of the difficulty in the game is by design, as the whole game is supposed to seem simple, but be deceivingly difficult.

The toilet is made so that if you land in it, you can only move to the left, although I'm considering changing that, as several people have voiced a dislike of that.

ryan123rudder 2020-04-21 06:39

@shaubbyplayz Wow thank you! That means a lot

ryan123rudder 2020-04-21 06:41

@alphazeba thank you! It's strange, some people are having issues with the fishbowl and others aren't. I removed the collides on that first fishbowl due to the bug, but some people are still experiencing it. I'll look into it more tomorrow.

unityyyy 2020-04-21 12:42

I liked it a lot! It really was at times quite hard, but not too hard. I loved the fact you could recharge in the bathtubs and toilet bowls.

alphazeba 2020-04-21 16:12

@ryan123rudder It was most obvious on the spawning fishbowl. it felt like i immediately hit something and tried flicking about 45 forward. I then tried directly upwards assuming 'maybe there are walls'. That also collided. I tried 45 forward again and it worked. The few fishbowls i got into later on also seemed to work right. I really like that "spicy" poster lol

duck-reaction 2020-04-21 20:02

I realy like playing this king of game. Make it more epic like this old game and I will buy it ! https://megami.starcreator.com/nanaca-crash/

ryan123rudder 2020-04-21 20:09

@alphazeba Interesting, that should be fixed. Would you mind testing it real quick?

alphazeba 2020-04-21 20:39

@ryan123rudder I just tried again I think what i had been doing was make small jumps out of the initial fish bowl. It looks like jumps of less than 50% power weren't getting you out of the fishbowl. I was on a laptop touchpad which may have been why i was having some issue. At full power flicks i had no trouble getting out of the fishbowl so i think it is working, I'm just bad lol.

ryan123rudder 2020-04-21 21:06

@alphazeba Thank you for the test! That is still an issue, but that narrows it down a lot :)

bajtix 2020-04-22 07:36

A really nice game! The physics feel great and the jumps are smooth. I think that the music is nice, but after a few loops it gets boring. Overall really fun to play.

curtamyth 2020-04-22 07:40

Very cool! I kept playing for a while, I enjoyed it. I just wish there were checkpoints, I got pretty far my second run!

nehvis 2020-04-22 07:43

Cool concept and art! You missed the opportunity to call this Leap Of Fish, though :D

dfva 2020-04-22 07:44

Fun game! A bit oddly balanced at times, but overall funny and enjoyable

finn-tr 2020-04-22 07:46

It's a really fun game! Good job!

ryan123rudder 2020-04-22 08:01

@bajtix Thank you! The music was quite last minute so its a bit short. Future updates will hopefully have a longer version @curtamyth Thank you so much! I've been thinking about adding checkpoints at the bonds, and making them a little bit rarer. Not sure yet. Thank you for the feedback! @nehvis Your comment almost made me change the game name on ludum dare, but I realized I'd have to change it in game too, which probably wouldn't be allowed. Maybe after the jam though :) @dfva Thank you! Would you be able to expand on what you mean with the balance? What parts felt that way? I plan on continuing development after the jam is over, so I'd love to try and fix it @finn-tr Thank you!

flamus 2020-04-22 08:03

Cool little game! Good job! congrats!

cancerous 2020-04-22 08:03

Got stuck in a tiny fish bowl , good game !

ryan123rudder 2020-04-22 08:05

@flamus thank you! @cancerous currently working on a bug fix for just that :)

milestone-games 2020-04-22 09:40

I really liked the goofiness of this game, the level of detail in the houses and the skill level! Some shots were super hard and the timed life progress bar made it fun to try to survive. Great work!

ryan123rudder 2020-04-22 10:08

@milestone-games Thank you so much!

microchasm 2020-04-22 15:45

I had a good time with this one. It's real silly, and the music does a good job telling the player that this is going to be light-hearted. I was surprised and had a little laugh when I fell in the toilet and that counted as being in water. The only issue I had was that it feels good to interact with a game, and you aren't able to interact with your fish for much of the time you spend in the game, because the little guy is so bouncy and you can only launch him when he is still. I'd like to be able to launch him when he is still moving a little, to get something more crazy and fast-paced. But hey, you know what they say about people in glass houses... with fish launching through them... This is a nice, coherent, fun little game, well done.

ryan123rudder 2020-04-22 20:56

@microchasm Thank you! I'll work on that issue after the jam, as I plan to keep up development

jonhthehutt 2020-04-22 23:47

I ended up spending WAY more time on this game than I expected! Really fun core loop, and such a fun premise. I think this game would benefit greatly from a dotted curve that shows your trajectory (think Angry Birds), and with how bouncy the fish is, I don't think it would be game-breaking (also this game is fairly difficult, so any sort of help to the player would be nice). Higher ceilings would make things much nicer, and holy cow I struggled so much with that gap between the TV and the wall in the living room. Could not get out of there! Another fun thing would be if landing the toilet bowl was a game over, add a fun obstacle :P Overall great game, and to echo the other sentiments here, I would really love to see this ported to mobile!

ryan123rudder 2020-04-23 04:16

@jonhthehutt How much time did you spend out of interest? Im so happy you enjoyed it! I tried to add the dotted line during the jam but ran out of time. I’ll be doing a rework of a lot of sections of the game, such as the height of the ceilings and the difficult gaps like you mentioned. I’ll be redoing the movement a bit, and I may also be adding a mode which allows the ponds to be checkpoints. Could be interesting!

I will 100% be making this available on mobile, and I hope you keep up with development to see that happen!

echo-team 2020-04-23 08:26

Nice! While I understand the reason for the pull-back mechanic, a pull-forward would probably have been more straightforward (no pun intended).

ryan123rudder 2020-04-23 09:14

@echo-team That's a good idea! I made the mechanic with a mobile port in mind, in which i think a pull back would work better, but maybe I need to add an option.

pabulum 2020-04-23 18:54

I had a lot of fun with this. I think it would feel alot more fluid if you came to rest faster or could fling the fish a little sooner but then again the paniced flicking while you wait for it to stop bouncing definetely added to the tension. I also spent like 5 minites just bouncing on a bed, great fun. ha. Good job!

ryan123rudder 2020-04-23 20:57

@pabulum Thank you!

angusdick 2020-04-23 21:21

survival golf!

ctrble 2020-04-24 02:57

I had a lot of fun with this! The only trouble I had was with grabbing the fish to get the pull back, seemed like maybe the hitbox was small and/or the fish couldn't already be moving. That aside, I really enjoyed this, especially the little details like the toilet or how the music only played when you were outside. Charming game!

ryan123rudder 2020-04-24 03:10

@ctrble The fish does indeed need to be stopped. We are looking into a solution to this, as many players dislike the delay this presents.

prof-suarez 2020-04-24 05:39

I got stuck under the bed in the house with the staircase. This was an awesome experience and I killed like 3 hours playing it. Loved it!

ryan123rudder 2020-04-24 05:45

@prof-suarez Was it the first house with a staircase? I'll fix that as soon as possible!

Holy shit 3 hours! Im so glad you liked it, that makes me feel like the sleep deprivation was worth it. What do you think about a mobile port?

bloham 2020-04-24 06:15

Nr. 100! (Hopefully :) ) Its a very nice game and I can definitely see why you want to port it for mobile. The music fits very good to the game and I like the use of different physics materials. When you make a mobile version you should definitely integrate this more :D The controls where a little buggy to me, but easy to learn and hard to master (very good!) I like this game a lot! (tell us on itch.io or wherever when you app is ready!) I am currently also porting my game (with all the missing features that did not made it) A friend is testing it this weekend on Android and hopefully it will be in the Appstore before May :)

rkhadder 2020-04-24 06:22

This would be a fun mobile game

sorko 2020-04-24 06:54

Had fun playing this. The marshmallow grilling in the title had me https://imgur.com/a/ALrjDta , so that's good. I disliked the fact that i had to wait for the "rolling" to be over, would've wished that i could jump again as soon as i touch the ground. I'm very impatient and get frustrated on things like that, but that might just be me.

Overall, it was an pleasant experience!

ryan123rudder 2020-04-24 07:28

@bloham Thank you! I know what you mean about the buggyness, and I'm working on it, its being a bit weird :) Any ideas on how i can integrate the physics materials more? I'll totally release a ton of announcements when the app is ready, and im glad your game is going well too!

ryan123rudder 2020-04-24 07:28

@rkhadder You'd never guess what I'm working on right now ;)

ryan123rudder 2020-04-24 07:30

@sorko I'm working with the logic a bit to see if theres a way to make that work without making it feel choppy or buggy. I had changed it for awhile but got negative feedback regarding it. I'll figure something out though. Thank you for the feedback!

ryan123rudder 2020-04-24 07:39

@angusdick survival golf!

prof-suarez 2020-04-24 08:03

@ryan123rudder mobile port? only if you add baby shark lmao

ryan123rudder 2020-04-24 08:10

@prof-suarez We'll see ;)

If you follow on itch.io, I'll release an announcement there when the mobile version comes out.

lapisraider 2020-04-24 08:26

Really like the concept of this game and the graphics is cute! Would prefer if I could fling the fish a lot faster rather then waiting for it to roll to a stop, or at least wish the fish could roll around faster XD.

Overall, its a pretty fun game!

ryan123rudder 2020-04-24 08:40

@lapisraider Thank you! The issue of a slow-to-stop fish is evident from many comments, and I'm working on a fix :)

llewellyn-and-michael 2020-04-24 09:08

Awesome concept I'd like to see this developed further

bloham 2020-04-24 10:13

@ryan123rudder I guess you used different physics materials for the bed, the grass etc? I could imagine, flying Ballons you can bounce off and trampolines (like on the bed), Slippery mud where you slide longer. Birds, you can crash in and maybe different liquids you jump out from. Like guey slime that is hard to get out of or a bubble bath that lets you jump stronger. Just ideas :D (looking forward to the app!)

mathieu-semin 2020-04-24 11:01

Fun little game, with more polish it could become a successful mobile game. For improvements, you could add differents fish types with different physics and a way for humans to interact with the player. Also it was a bit hard at first to see where I could enter the houses. Good job !

ryannielson 2020-04-24 13:10

Lots of places you could go with this. Different types of obstacles, environmental things like trampolines to bounce the fish, mud to get stuck, etc. Also I wish you could zoom out a bit when launching because it sometimes felt like it was down to luck whether or not I landed in a pond or not.

Nice relaxing work though, I like the art as well.

ryan123rudder 2020-04-24 19:24

@llewellyn-and-michael That's the plan! Thank you! @bloham Wonderful ideas, and a great way to develop the level design further, thank you! @mathieu-semin Thank you for the feedback! I'm currently working with polishing every aspect of the game up, and have a prototype app made. The issue of the windows not being obvious is also being worked on. @ryannielson Those are all wonderful ideas. As I continue with the game, I will certainly add more. And I've been considering zooming out. The unclear jump is intentionally (Leap of Faith you might say) but we are messing around with how zooming should be. We're going to be playtesting several zoom types

zubspace 2020-04-24 21:43

That poor little fish! Well done. So simple, but quite hard. It's amazing how nervous I got watching the oxygen level go down while trying to get out of the space between a sofa and a fish tank, lol.

I think, you really captured the theme very well. Good job.

ryan123rudder 2020-04-24 22:01

@zubspace Thank you!

savvu 2020-04-26 08:33

I gooot far with that fish haha! Always aiming for the water since there you can jump higher and further away! I read t hat you develop an mobile version is that right? It would be great to introduce there fore fish skins as unlockables. Each with other weight making t he experience different for each fish haha! Well done with that game!

smiley 2020-04-26 09:08

nice idea. I just wished it was possible to give the poor fish a boost while he is in the air. Also nice with the background staying giving a bit of parallax feeling even if it had been great if it was scrolling a bit to give even more depth feeling.

lorwon 2020-04-26 09:12

I agree with savvu, skins could be fun ! The game gameplay is simple but funny. I think that sometimes when the fish hit the ground or a wall the bounce is too short, it would be nice if when the fish hit something he bounce higher ! Great job anyway :)

ryan123rudder 2020-04-26 20:18

@savvu That's awesome! I am currently developing a mobile version, that's correct. Follow on itch.io for an announcement of release! Skins are certainly planned, but differences in game play between them may not exist, due to *other plans* (i think it was spelled multi....something  ) Thank you for checking it out!

ryan123rudder 2020-04-26 20:23

@smiley Thank you! I'm working on a couple things with the game right now, including a mobile build and a better parallax effect. @lorwon Skins are in the works! The bounciness is an weird problem, because if I make it too bouncy, there will be a longer delay before you can move again, but I do agree that a bouncier fish would be fun. I'll mess with it more and see what happens. Thank you for the feedback!

savvu 2020-04-26 21:21

This was by far the most exciting moment of my entire day! haha I guess I travelled really far!

Screenshot_4.png Screenshot_5.png

ryan123rudder 2020-04-26 21:46

@savvu Yay!! The ominous table has been found! Next up, the upside down house and the floating island :)

jcourt 2020-04-26 23:28

OK, so I keep coming back to this game because its amazing. I spent the better part of this afternoon playing it, and I FINALLY made it past the third house. I always died there because it was so hard to get across the bed because it bounces so much. The only way I was able to actually get past that house without spending days on it was because you can jump onto the top of the first two houses, if you wait until you are close to the left edge of the ponds before them, and launch yourself as forcefully as you can at about a 60-70 degree angle. You can bounce off the angled part of the roof, and land on top, which lets you get over that house without actually dealing with any of the difficult stuff inside it.

I've only actually gotten past the the third house twice. The first time, I died immediately, but the second time I made it to the ominous table. From the table I was able to launch myself onto the top of one more house. I don't actually know how many houses past the table I made it, but I died in one where the nearest water to the window on the top level was a bowl on a table, and I kept landing under the table.

May I ask how much further there is to go?

ryan123rudder 2020-04-27 00:00

@jcourt First of all, that is some serious dedication and I thoroughly appreciate that, so thank you! The ominous tale marks the halfway point of the game. You have 3 or four houses left before The Hotel. And then that's it. I wish you luck, and hope for a screenshot when you make it :)

johnnysix 2020-04-27 00:25

Pretty nifty, was challenging to aim when the fish is swimming. Could be a fun mobile game if you continue on this post-compo. I'd maybe reduce the scope and/or break down the challenges into small levels chunks. Maybe even stuff like jumping from bowl to sink to water glass or whatever inside the house, to make your initial escape.

ryan123rudder 2020-04-27 00:57

@johnnysix Thanks for the feedback! We are certainly continuing this post-jam, and are already working on a mobile port. I love the idea of starting the escape off inside. We most likely won't be breaking the level into chunks, as we have other plans (I think it was spelled multipl-...something like that  ) So breaking it down would break up the flow. However, if difficulty is the issue, we will be adding a mode in which fish bowls act as respawn points.

Follow us on itch.io for updates when these things get released!

ldd 2020-04-27 01:37

Screen Shot 2020-04-26 at 9.35.17 PM.png

I got to the glass of water in the middle of a table. After that, I died. Oh well, just tell me I won!

ryan123rudder 2020-04-27 01:46

@ldd Congratulations! You won! Thats the end and certainly not the halfway marker! Good job!

wans24 2020-04-27 09:16

Interesting theme interpretation, very funny. However, I think the game lacks some slingshot polishing. To feel the speed and acceleration. Also, fish is flying with more or less the same speed and stops slowly. This particular slingshot mechanic is very well executed in this game https://uppon-hill.itch.io/remember-apollo I guess you can look for ideas there. Overall, good game, I enjoyed it.

barret 2020-04-27 19:46

this was really fun. I didn't beat it, but I appreciated all the different things the fish could go in. Like the fish tank and toilet and such. I also liked how the fish swam when in the water. I also liked how the camera zoomed out when you did a big jump , and that you could do bigger jumps when in the water

The only bug I think that happened was the music stops for a period of time, but then it starts over. I guess it's not totally looping.

blackquiltro 2020-04-27 21:47

I had a lot of fun with your game, could not finished it yet, but probably will keep playing it the following days. Graphics are nice and gameplay is very good

ryan123rudder 2020-04-29 01:13

@wans24 Thank you for the feedback. We are going tro continue working on the game, and I'll look into making the slingshot feel better

@barret Thank you for the feedback! I'll check out the music stuff. It is supposed to stop for a bit, but I should make it fade.

@blackquiltro Wonderful thank you!

surfskater2 2020-04-29 02:13

I really love the idea, the mechanic and the visuals, I think they all fit perfect for a jam. Maybe a bit longer loop for the music would have been nice, but overall really nice and fun game, congratulations!

nachodlv 2020-04-29 02:14

Nice game! I liked the music. I didn't complete it but it was really fun. Sometimes it was hard for me to know to which object the fish was going to collide.

lexyvil 2020-04-29 02:41

Very addicting game, I kept getting stuck between the TV and the window, it's a hard place to get out of~ I couldn't finish it, I always ended up in the second house after the lack of ponds.

ryan123rudder 2020-04-29 08:31

@surfskater2 Thank you so much! The music could certainly use a bit of a longer track. We'll be adding that in the next version (post jam)

@nachodlv Thank you! Would you be able to let us know which objects you thought you would collide with, but didn't? This will help us in the next version, post jam

@lexyvil Thanks for playing! Both of the issues you've had have been fairly common and will be addressed post jam. We will also add a mode with re-spawn points to make it just a little bit less frustrating :)

krammetje 2020-05-01 15:34

Great game. Very addicting.

notan-lemon 2020-05-02 06:19

I love the idea of making a golf game with a fish. Also the graphics is great. Good job.

abdurrahman-khallouf 2020-05-02 17:58

this is rally great. very innovative and fun. I pretty much enjoyed it. would make a really cool mobile game!

ryan123rudder 2020-05-04 06:07

@abdurrahman-khallouf We are actively working on that!

coleslaughter 2020-05-04 06:33

This brings me back to some old-school flash games I used to play. :) Very nicely done!

I do wish some of the obstacles were a little easier to maneuver though. Seems like going through houses is generally a death trap since the jump is so difficult to precisely aim/predict. I feel like I had the most fun when I was flying around outside.

I also like the subtle mechanic where your jump strength is magnified when you're in water. :) That was a very nice touch.

ryan123rudder 2020-05-04 06:40

@coleslaughter Thank you! How did the houses act as death traps? I tried to lessen that by adding water within the house, or were those hard to get into as well?

coleslaughter 2020-05-04 06:44

@ryan123rudder Maybe I just played super badly, but yeah. I was able to get into one water source (a fish tank), but it almost seemed by my own dumb luck. :P Otherwise, I kept getting caught underneath tables, or missing jumps through windows and wasting valuable time/life waiting for my character to reset and try again.

I was able to jump over a house one time and I found it to be an infinitely better strategy because I could just launch myself into the open air off the roof and make it easily to the next pond without any issue. The houses seemed much more constrained, which unfortunately led to a lot of frustration for me, personally.

ryan123rudder 2020-05-04 06:55

@coleslaughter The idea behind the game was a rage game, like Getting Over It, or Flappy Bird. We're currently working on trying to make that more clear, as well as balance somethings that are too frustrating, like windows.

puppetmaster 2020-05-04 21:50

Omg!! such a cool theme implementation. I had a lot of fun. I have been searching for a long time until

I found another innovative game to test. The best was when I landed by chance in the toilet and I tried again and again to land in the aquarium.

Wonderful!!

ryan123rudder 2020-05-05 00:25

@puppetmaster Thank you! "Innovative" is a huge complement! I'm glad you enjoyed it! Did you find our game by chance, or did you check it out after I commented on yours? If it was by chance, then that funny, as I just played your game yesterday! Had a blast!

puppetmaster 2020-05-05 17:33

@ryan123rudder I only found out afterwards that you were playing my game too. It was pure chance.

ryan123rudder 2020-05-05 22:28

@puppetmaster Awesome. Great job again!

benjamin-san-souci 2020-05-06 05:05

Pretty cool game, reminded me of kitten cannon, a classic. The graphics were fun :)

ricksquanchez 2020-05-06 08:04

simple yet challenging!gives a "very getting over it" feel.I think the music choice could have been better.Still really great job.

rroni 2020-05-06 09:21

One problem I had was that I felt like the angle at which the fish is shot is slightly off from what the pointer indicates  not sure though! Otherwise a very enjoyable game! :)

ryan123rudder 2020-05-07 00:56

@ricksquanchez That was the inspiration! The music was a bit last minute, and may get a revamp. Any ideas on a different direction to go?

ryan123rudder 2020-05-07 00:56

@rroni I've noticed that too and I'm trying to work it out. I believe it has to do with the way I'm handling force and rotation

ryan123rudder 2020-05-09 06:03

@notan-lemon Hey, I noticed you rated the game on itch.io 1 star. If that was on purpose, no problem, I'd love to hear your thoughts. However, based on your comment here, you seemed to enjoy it! Just looking for an explanation one way or the other :)

notan-lemon 2020-05-09 11:31

@ryan123rudder It is true that I like the concept and the art, but to be honest I was really mad at the difficulty when I made that rating. On my last play, the fish landed on a bed, kept bouncing there and never came back to the floor. I couldn't control the fish during that and it ate up more than half of the health bar.

On second thought it was too harsh to give this 1 star. I'm sorry. Game balance is not the only factor that decides value of a game. I edited the rating. Maybe I was expecting too much on this game because I found this in someone's feed saying "You should definitely play this game" or something like that.

If I were to balance this game, I'd either make it possible to relaunch the fish after certain time, or make the oxygen bar decrease by 10% or so only when launching the fish. But neither of these fits the game thematically, and that's why game balance is difficult.

naca 2020-05-09 17:25

Nice entry, but it's too hard for me, I couldn't reach the ocean :( I like the take on the theme, also graphics and music are quite good. Well done!

ryan123rudder 2020-05-09 23:39

@notan-lemon I really appreciate you coming back to talk and give suggestions, that helps a ton. As the game was inspired by Getting Over It, the difficulty is a little inherint, but I think the main difference is the source of the difficulty. In Getting Over It, nothing about the game is really *unfair*, all the difficulty comes from your own mistakes. In this case however, some randomness is involved, like the beds. I will absolutely be addressing this issue in the coming updates, and will most likely implement the ability to shoot after a little, like you said. Balancing issues will continue to be worked on as time goes on. Thank you again! Also, if you by any chance know who suggested the game in your feed, I'd love to thank them, too! @naca Thank you! Glad you liked it. Some of the issues with difficulty will be addressed in updates, but some of it is just due to the fact that it is inspired by similarly difficult games. Thank you for playing!

guladam 2020-05-10 12:49

Nice idea, a great take on the theme! :) Sometimes it was a bit too difficult for me but I think I just suck, probably.

Really loved the tune as well. Absolutely addictive experience! ^_^

notan-lemon 2020-05-10 13:31

@ryan123rudder Beat it! It was not that hard once I got the hang of it.

Leap Of Faith by Cipherix Studios End.png

Now I see how this game is inspired by Getting Over It. Personally I'm not a fan of that kind of trial and error games, and I wouldn't want to play this game if you extend it to be as hard as Getting Over It, but I do really think the concept is cool.

And no, unfortunately I don't know who suggested playing this game.

ryan123rudder 2020-05-10 22:46

@notan-lemon Honestly I don't like that kind of game either, but I'm having fun making one! I believe you're the first person to beat it, aside from those on the dev team. Congratulations!

ryan123rudder 2020-05-10 22:46

@guladam Thank you!

invixel 2020-05-11 07:24

Damn, i spent like 40 minutes and got to the house with 4 windows, but then i couldn't get through the window so i died.

I got really frustrated by the fact that the aiming arrow definetly didn't accurately reflect where the fish wash shot. Usually, the fish would go way higher which would leave me missing completely.

It was still fun though. The graphics were nice, the camera zooming in and out was really cool.

ryan123rudder 2020-05-11 07:32

@invixel Thank you! As updates continue, we will be changing up the physics a little to better match the aiming arrow. We may also be replacing it with a trajectory path, but this is uncertain. Thanks for playing, I'm so glad you liked it!

literal-games 2020-05-11 09:18

This was nice! Could do with some check points maybe? And the camera work was really impressive for a small game. Good job!

ryan123rudder 2020-05-11 22:41

@literal-games Thank you! In the coming updates there will be two modes, Practice and Normal. Practice will have checkpoints, but you wont be on the leader board if you finish. I think this would be a good solution, let me know if you have any others.

The camera work was a pain, but I got it to a place I'm pretty happy with, thank you for noticing!

thibaud-ligneul 2020-05-12 08:08

Really cool game :) It was frustrating to try going in cramped water bodies like fish tanks though... :/

fabula-rasa 2020-05-12 16:40

Nice graphics and fitting audio. And the concept - I LOVE IT. I mean, you had me at "be free!"

The game itself could be somewhat frustrating because of lack of checkpoints combined with the design of the world (many nooks and carnies inside the houses). I once shot myself into an impossible situation - stuck between the wall and the cabinet. And all I could do is watch my fish slowly suffocate. A sad day was had by all. The fact that you have to start at the beginning after such events (especially if they happened after a long time of playing already) really discourages you from trying again.

Don't get me wrong - lack of checkpoints is generally fine and I love games that challenge me. But lack of checkpoints in a jam game probably makes a big difference - a lot of people will just give up instead of trying again.

In any case, this is one great jam game! Cudos!

gameovermexico 2020-05-12 16:45

Nice game, there are sections where it is frustrating to pass and poor fish I don't want it to die Fly Fish Fly!!! fish.jpg

ryan123rudder 2020-05-12 16:47

@fabula-rasa Thank you! I'm glad you liked it! The difficulty was purposeful, as it's a rage game mostly meant to frustrate, similar to Flappy Bird or Getting Over It. Some things, like impossible locations, are not purposeful and are being worked on. We will also be adding a practice mode with checkpoints. Follow us on itch.io for updates on development!

ryan123rudder 2020-05-12 16:51

@gameovermexico Thanks!

gustavo-christino 2020-05-12 17:18

Oh, no... Playing again...

studionokoi 2020-05-12 17:25

I liked the camera and main gameplay mechanic. The graphics could use a little work especially with pixel scaling but otherwise it's good.

Análise...

1 - Mecânicas, Aprendizado e Fluxo: A mecânica é simples e desafiadora.

gustavo-christino 2020-05-12 17:29

Analysis...

1 - Mechanics, Learning and Flow: The mechanics are simple and challenging. Learning to play is fast and intuitive, however it is very difficult to get some moves right. Part of the difficulty comes from the strategy, I think it was the team's choice that the windows were so difficult to overcome. This makes us avoid them whenever possible, but we end up not training them enough. Perhaps it would be interesting (to improve the game flow) to put rims to pass in the middle of the way, before having to enter windows (or just increase the window's overtaking space, but it doesn't seem the best choice).

2 - Graphics, Audio and Narrative: I really liked the graphics, very diverse and fun. The audio is a bit repetitive, but at the same time, it fits well with the project and is not that nauseating. The narrative is simple, although I did not understand everything just by playing, the fish has to stay alive (water keeps him alive for a longer time), while he moves around the scene.

3 - Culture: That of a fish traveling around reminded me of Nemo, I don't know if it was a direct and planned reference. The name of the game reminded me of other references (like Assassin's Creed, hahahahah, which gave a good-natured tone). There are also references like "swimming with fish", which was very ironic after all.

4 - Monetization: I believe that the game can sell if broken on several different levels, for smartphones (via advertisements and / or sale of game attempts, in a system similar to Candy Crush and Frozen Freefall, with the possibility of seeing at what stage other players have reached) and in stores like itch.io.

steven-c 2020-05-12 17:33

This was actually really fun! I love that you can go inside houses and into bathtubs and toilets and everything! I wish it showed your distance and highscore or something after dieing though

ryan123rudder 2020-05-12 17:39

@studionokoi Thank you! The issue with the pixel scaling of the background is being addressed :)

@gustavo-christino Thank you for the analysis, this helps a ton! I will keep all of this in mind as updates continue. We are certainly releasing on mobile, but most likely won't be breaking it down in levels, as it's meant to be a speed based leader board.

@steven-c Thank you! The next couple of updates will most definitely have a high score!

joe40001 2020-05-12 19:11

I made it to the end! You were there to watch! Fun game.

ryan123rudder 2020-05-12 19:20

@joe40001 Thanks again for playing!

sinci1 2020-05-12 19:41

I didn't manage to finish the game as I'm a bit short on time, but I like it, it has a nice art style and a unique moving mechanic. A piece of feedback I would give is that it takes a bit too long for you to be able to shoot again, but apart from that it's a great game! I might attempt to finish it some other time :D
