Nice game, but there are some problems to it, one being that I can't tell whether I am hitting the enemy or not, plus it'd be nice to add some explosion for them. Also you should add a physical body for the ships so you can't just go over other ships. the game is well made though and doesn't seem to have any bugs.

Ok so... did you test-play your game? cause there were sections where I could not do anything but take damage. I'm not hating on your game, but you definitely need to add content, sounds, and overall better design. Like I said before, I am not hating your game. I'm just giving you some critical thinking.

I enjoyed playing! At first I was a little unsure if I was going to be challenged while playing and it felt a bit slow but the game quickly picked up and got more challenging. It was a classic space shooter, but with the twist of the upgrades and from what I can see loads of levels to go through.

gullyngames 2019-04-30 01:50

Thanks for your suggestions. I was away most of Saturday, so I wasn't able to add some of the features I wanted.

no-grapes-games 2019-04-30 06:48

Nice little space short. The challenge started getting better as it went on. Feels like it could have used a little more polish, it was hard to tell if my shots were having an effect for instance.

Needs some work, but I like the first attempt! I think some sounds or other indicators would help so that I know I'm doing damage and stuff.

gward2489 2019-04-30 20:21

nice work, Good patterns for dodging. a little hard to dodge the homing missles, almost impossible. Good patterns for dodging.

Cool assortment of enemies. The third one looks a bit like a Romulan warbird. I think a damage indicator when you hit enemies would've helped a lot with adding some user feedback/impact for attacking, and some simple sound effects with a tool like sfxr.

Here's how I did:

Its a nice game. I like style and graphics are also ok. But there are moments where You cannot dodge whatever You do. Enemies bullet should be rotating when fired in different angles because they can shoot when You are just below them and then bulles fly sideways. Also im not sure if im hitting them at all. And after killing second "boss" the upgrade was outside of the screen.

I really like having an upgrade choice after the boss fights, although I very much regret accepting homing missiles. I was going strong with my starting gun. The projectile patterns were really nice to see, smooth, and unexpected at first. It could use some feedback on bullet interactions, but nice overall!

I like the mechanic of spending life on upgrades! Ties in with the theme well and provides a nice risk/reward situation. I also dig the look of the bosses. I wish upgrades stacked because I felt it was a step down when I bought the homing missiles. Also some sound would be nice but I feel your pain about running out of time because the same thing happened to me and I had to cut a bunch of things I wanted. I made it to wave 25 but I died on the boss :( Had fun playing though!

whycardboard 2019-05-02 01:12

the mechanic works really well with the theme, and the game looks really nice, but i would have liked some audio. nice work.

mrspeaker 2019-05-02 01:21

Nice work - I ended up playing it for more than 15 minutes (which is an eternity for LD games!)

ruddgasm 2019-05-02 01:36

I think this game could use some audio. The gameplay was fun, but a few sound effects and music go a long way. That being said, the game was enjoyable and felt good to play. Another thing that you could have added if you had more time would be a way to get health back. After I bought one of the upgrades I didn't have enough for any others.

graebor 2019-05-02 01:52

Congrats on your first jam submission :) Any kind of feedback when getting hit or having one of your shots hit the enemies would improve this a lot, since that's essential gameplay information.

vilja 2019-05-02 01:54

Nice game. The controlling is pretty handy. I hope there's some sound effect to tell if I hit the enemy.

snowinn 2019-05-02 01:55

I would suggest increasing the speed of the enemies, they all move very slowly

elnu 2019-05-02 03:22

Fun game. However, it isn't very "juicy." Some particle effect, thruster animations, explosions, and background would make the game much more enjoyable and polished. Other than that, a great prototype! Perhaps some obstacles along the way that the player has to avoid would be nice too.

nice work for a compo : D Of course you can't have time to get huge graphics and feedback, but you did good ennemies, with nice bullet hell pattern. I was surprised when i saw the laser one, seems like you put a lot of effort into making the more content you can : )

Well done, i'll be nice on rating, according to your submission as a solo : )

As something of a SHMUP / bullet hell aficionado, I'm always glad to see my favorite subgenre represented. There were a couple of issues I noticed, like hit boxes/collisions not working (I could shoot missile, and my bullets went through missiles). I liked the different attack patterns, a lot of people don't go through the trouble. Art is always a backseat item, but I think this game could have benefited from a more consistent sprite/style/source. That gray bullet sliding through that missile belied a disconnect between the two. It was good, and the upgrades were huge!
