LD43 — Sacrifices must be made

Traffic Jams and Hand Grenades by phi 2018-12-28T19:57:36Z

Nice game! The only thing I can think of right now to improve it would be a reset button if you want to try to complete the level only using one grenade (if you blew up the wrong vehicle). Other than that, great game!

Catchey 2 (VR Only) by shadowbrain 2018-12-30T19:30:22Z

Cool game! It took a while for me to realise that I needed to arm the cubes before I threw them (it also took me a while to figure out which button "grip" was, but that is probably just because I'm stupid). It would also be cool if you got an end-screen when you ran out of cubes that showed how well you played (number of creatures caught, average creature level etc.). Other than that, I really enjoyed this game!

God given gifts, taken by hunttis 2018-12-28T16:34:24Z

Nice game! At first I thought that

1) the shield would be OP scince you could always hold it up.

2) that there was no reason to use your punching ability scince the bow is much better.

Both of those points were adressed when my powers were taken away! Good job guys!

Dino Jump by joll05 2018-12-26T18:45:45Z

@hdugmag Great that you enjoyed the game! We know that the controls are unresponsive at times (hence the `Input sometimes not registered` text in the description) and I honestly have no idea what could be causing this. If we ever decide to come back to this game to improve upon it I will be sure to try to fix this bug!

Dino Jump by joll05 2018-12-27T17:23:34Z

@jonathan-lorenz Thanks for the feedback! I agree that there should be more sound effects in the game but we simply didn't have time to make any. Despite that, I am a little bit annoyed that I didn't come up with the scream effect idea myself.

Dino Jump by joll05 2018-12-29T16:06:45Z

@rik Thank you for all the feedback! I will adress your points one by one.

"momentum seems a little random" - Yes, I have also noticed that momentum is a bit random. I have some ideas of why that might be and how to fix it and if we come back to this game I will be sure to put some of those ideas in action.

"the long time to restart makes it quite frustrating" - I didn´t really think about that it took a long time to respawn when I was making the game. Maybe there should be an option to enable instant respawns or a button that allowed you to reset the level.

"It did succeed in making me want to get further, each time" - This actually was not intentional! I dod notice this while making the level but I did not mean for it to be that way! At first I actually thought that it would be the opposite scince there are no checkpoints in the game, but I was proven wrong!

Thanks for playing our game, and once again thanks for all the feedback!

EDIT: spelling

Dino Jump by joll05 2018-12-29T16:22:33Z

@hunter-towe Good that you liked the game! The jumping off cliffs with Yoshi was actually the inspiration for this game so I´m glad you noticed it! I also think that the game could use more content and polishing but there wasn´t much time left to make that (I stayed up until midnight to finish the game, there was no way that I was going to make another level). Thanks for your feedback anyway!

Dino Jump by joll05 2018-12-30T13:53:38Z

@cheetah Thanks for playing! As I mentioned in a comment above we did not have time to make any more levels. Although, now that you have said that, I might make some more levels after the jam (along with a progress saving system)!

Never Coming Back by HDugmag 2018-12-26T13:29:10Z

Nice game for your first Ludum Dare! I thought this game was really fun.

One thing that I found a little bit strange though was that when I started the game it automatically opened SteamVR, and if I tried to close it the game closed as well. I know that it probably has to do with UE4 scince I know it starts SteamVR automatically when you open the editor but I felt like pointing it out anyway.

PhotoSheep by JakNak72 2018-12-27T17:29:44Z

I did not rate this game because I don't have photoshop so I can't play it, but this has to be the most creative use of the theme I have seen so far!

LD46 — Keep it alive

Secret Protection by dcrdro 2020-05-06T18:43:21Z

Nice game! I found it quite hard to play, and I think that was mainly because of the controls. I found it hard to know in a pinch which way to move the mouse to turn in the right direction. It might have worked better if it just turned towards the mouse. Also, I never really released the mouse button, so it felt a little bit unnecessary to need to press it the whole time.

Penguin Panic by MediocreMonty 2020-05-06T19:02:51Z

Fun game! The graphics were good, and I appriciate the behind the scenes audio of the penguin walking sound  I feel like it could work with a random level generation system, although I obviously understand why you couldn't do that in 72 hours.

LD47 — Stuck in a loop

Loop by Papaver 2020-10-25T22:01:24Z

Cool idea! I like the concept and the music was great. It was very difficult though. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but I think it got a bit frustrating at some points.

One thing I noticed in particular was that I would often realise that I was on a bad trajectory and stop to correct it, not noticing that there was a wall to my right, which I would then collide with. That also led to some situations that I couldn't possibly recover from because I would either keep going and hit a wall or turn to the right and hit a wall. One possible solution for this would be to have the snake rotate in place without moving when you're holding space. I feel like that would keep the game roughly the same, but get rid of frustrating moments like that.

Although overall, I still had fun. Good job!

Escape. Where? by MrWhimble 2020-10-26T18:49:54Z

Cool game. It was quite chaotic. I played it 4 times, and still have no idea how the room layout worked. Although I did find myself able to backtrack multiple times, so it's definitely not totally random, but most of the time I was just panicking my way around the ship. But in my last attempt I did manage to complete all tasks (and make it out alive). The ending felt a bit anticlimactic though.

Also, the audio was extremely quiet. I needed to raise the volume of my headphones all the way to 100 to hear it (normally I have it on around 12).

Although I think that overall it was still very good. Good job!

Imminent Danger by aplite 2020-10-13T11:56:21Z

Nice game! The main mechanic works well, and I liked that it showed your actions in reverse rather than just teleporting you back to the start. The graphics were alright, but could use improvement. For example, the player could do with some animations.

Unfortunately, I was unable to finish the game because I couldn't read the passcodes because they were behind the timer and item (at least on the web version on a 1366x768 monitor). Although that was the only "major" issue I had.

A more minor issue I had was (as others have also pointed out) that if you went close to a wall you couldn't turn in the direction of the wall. It was also a bit stressful reading while on a timer. By the time I had finished reading the story after the first loop I had 80 seconds remaining. Maybe the timer should be paused while you're reading. But despite the flaws I still think it was good!

Raceabout by joll05 2020-10-07T10:25:08Z

@fractalsunrise Glad you liked it! There is actually a check to make sure that obstacles don't spawn in an area directly in front of the car, but clearly it wasn't enough. Only spawning them in an area behind the car is way smarter. Thanks for the feedback.

Raceabout by joll05 2020-10-12T18:08:15Z

@jam373 Thanks for the feedback! Now that you mention it, cars as obstacles feels really obvious. I'll be sure to try that out if we make a post-jam version. Thanks for playing!

Raceabout by joll05 2020-10-17T18:04:37Z

@doot Thanks for the feedback! I do agree with you that the obstacle placement doesn't work all that well. Like you said, they aren't in your way enough, and the system to make them not spawn in front of you isn't very good. I will probably rework the spawning system if we make a post-jam version. Also, I simply didn't set the max spawning distance high enough, so you could just drive around next to the wall forever. That would definitely be fixed in a post-jam version. But I'm glad you enjoyed the game despite it's flaws!

Record Runner by unplugred 2020-10-26T07:34:49Z

Awesome rythm game! The amount of polish that's in this is insane. That's not to say that there aren't flaws. The main one, which a lot of other people have pointed out, is that it's hard to control precisely. Here are a few small flaws as well:

- Mr. Clay could use a better model (In my opinion he looks very "placeholdery") - The label on the record is quite pixelated - While there is a quit button on the main menu, you can't go back to the main menu from song select, meaning you can't "properly" quit the game - If you miss a note it won't be counted as missed until it goes off-screen

But if you overlook these things, it's still a really great game. Good job guys!

Stuck Machines by Fractal 2020-10-25T22:42:56Z

Cool idea for a puzzle game, although I don't think I fully understood it. I managed to figure out how the left and right door worked, but didn't get how the grate or the back door worked. I did manage to beat it through the little I did know though so... yay?

Tone by Akio 2020-10-16T14:19:20Z

This is probably my favorite game in this jam so far. The controls felt nice and the main mechanic works well. I quite liked the more "puzzly" parts of the level. Since you opted out of graphics and audio I assume you didn't make all of it yourself, but they were still really good. The only bug that I found was that if I was in a block while it was appearing, I would fly up through it, but I would consider that relatively minor. Good job!

Tone by Akio 2020-10-17T18:11:59Z

@akio That's a shame. :slight_frown: I could tell a lot of work had gone into them.

Mobius Station by mrhthepie 2020-10-20T19:14:37Z

Cool concept! The möbius loop mechanic was very well implemented. Unfortunately, it felt a bit "underused", at least in the way I played the game. I'm guessing that the way you are "intended" to play the game is to keep going around the loop to get the boxes that you do need if they are behind boxes you don't need. However, I found it easier to just stand next to the out door, sort the boxes when they came in so that I could access any one of them, and then simply pick the one I wanted. I feel like it needs some mechanic to force you to go around the loop. Maybe something like an immovable block that would make you need to switch side to get the blocks above it. Although despite that, I still found the game quite fun. Good job!

LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

Racing squared by joll05 2018-04-24T16:49:41Z

@samboyer276 Good idea! I'll try implementing it in a separate build!
