LD48 — Deeper and deeper

The Miracle Mineral by benjamin-l 2021-04-27T04:30:43Z

I think the lighting and texture is phenomenal for establishing this type of dark atmosphere, and it reminds me of the creepiness associated with blurry phone videos. I think the environment could use more visual interest and freedom of choice (it doesn't have to be true freedom, just something to add variety to the experience of walking through the cave). Also, I like the physics of the lamp, but it shakes so much that it takes away a bit from my immersion within the environment-- I think compositional considerations like these could help elevate the game to a really interesting experience.

Very cryptic and interesting mood! I think that it could be more clear what placing the symbols down does, and perhaps some more visual variation or something along that vein to keep driving the player forward in the direction you want them to be going (it doesn’t have to be super over the top, just a little more guidance so players don’t feel like they’re stuck in a loop forever). Also I like the direction the sound is going– to me it sounds like the footsteps are an instrument as well, and I wonder if there are ways that you could emphasize it, perhaps by making it more rhythmic. Good work!

I think you did a great job with getting this scene to really feel claustrophobic and stress-inducing! Because of how tight the corridors were I was always spooked about what might be around the corner, and the collisions and programming behind the scenes worked well enough to keep me immersed. That said, I do think what would push this game to the next level is just a bit more variety in the gameplay-- once you figure out how to do each function on the submarine, there isn't much new to figure out or learn if that makes sense. Overall a good submission to the jam, keep on going!

Hey all! Just wanted to write a quick comment about the main mechanic (which is def underdeveloped and not clear enough hahahaha). The actual solution to the puzzle is that the cardboard boxes "match" positionally with the locks; that is to say if you move a box, a corresponding lock will move in the other room. Get all the locks on stickers by moving boxes to the matching positions in the other room and the big door will unlock! And as a note, this first puzzle is the only one implemented! Once you solve it you can basically just keep walking through rooms haha. Thanks for the feedback everyone, I really appreciate it!!

I'm not sure if it's just an issue on my side, but I did have a lot of input lag when playing this game (if I press an input, it takes about a second for it to register). Good job with the lighting! I like the effect it has on the mood.

As others have mentioned, great work with the atmosphere! And the music is super interesting, both great strengths of the game.

Internal Abyss by Kassymov Iran 2021-04-30T03:56:41Z

I think the biggest improvement to this game would be to focus more on feelings of weight and response. The current attacking system doesn't really indicate that the strikes are powerful or doing damage (the enemies don't get knocked back for example), and it's also hard to tell when you get hit. The last two things that I will mention are that the sound that you used for the swing doesn't make a lot of sense for a swing (it sounds more like a hammer to me, and gets fairly repetitive), and also there is nothing stopping me from spamming left-click to kill everything super fast haha. However I will say that I like the direction you are going in visually, and I think if you prioritize animation now it could grow into a very cool game!

Darkness Muse by Evil Villain Games 2021-04-27T04:22:03Z

I think the concept is pretty interesting, but it might be a bit easier for the player if shooting doesn't also decrease light (usually when attacking is detrimental to the player in games, the attack is extra powerful or somehow worth it). I found myself running out of light very quickly and then being unable to find any more. With some tweaks to mechanics though this could be an interesting dungeon crawler!

I like that you embraced the "drawn in microsoft paint" style hahah. Definitely a difficult game, but of course there's a market for infuriating funny games :)
