Super cute game! And I really liked the graphics and the audio. Great leveldesign as well. Sure felt like a very polished game. Well done!

gaming-night 2018-08-14 11:27

Really nice game design here ! I really enjoyed the time spent in your game. This bear is really cute. Nice entry :)

manusaiz 2018-08-14 11:29

Nice graphics and audio, it was super cute! my gf loved it, the music contributed to the xp, also puzzles were cool. Super cute game :dog:

raivk 2018-08-14 11:30

Super cute game, and you managed to put some polish on it, congrats :)

bungalow 2018-08-14 11:33

The art is awesome! How did finish such a nice, polished game in only 72 hours?!

vekstr 2018-08-14 13:25

Wait so is that last level actually solvable? Nice little game anyways. The turning controls is a bit weird though..

notime4name 2018-08-14 13:58

sokoban with being able to pick up and move the boxes in any direction. Super cute graphics, fitting music without getting repetitive, and a humorous selection of characters and dialogue. did not encounter any bugs at all, great job! :)

zoltancoccyx 2018-08-14 14:26

@vekstr the last level is only solvable for a very large definition of solvable wich may include modifying the level file... Yeah, the controls are weird but we didn't really find a good solution, I guess we had an idea for a game on a tactile platform and realised for pc, hence the weirdness :S Thanks for the feedback

vekstr 2018-08-14 14:32

@zoltancoccyx Ahhh truly out of the box I see, however why did you spoil the solution...? But alas, managed to solve it now. Thanks, nice little game!

zoltancoccyx 2018-08-14 14:45

(@nessa @gaming-night @manusaiz @raivk) @bungalow : with the power of friendship ! Actually, good division of work and a roadmap with deadlines to ajust ourselves ^^ Thanks a lot to you all for the feedback on level design, if you want to experiment with it you can modify the level files : it is pretty straightforward. If you have some ideas using the mecanics, we you love to see them

nikasxirtla 2018-08-14 18:13

Really nice and cute game. Graphics and sounds are well made. Level design is also pretty good. Overall great game!

thewustache 2018-08-14 20:02

I love the way you realized the theme! Also, the music is amazing. Turning is a bit wonky (I immediately rebound the controls still found myself hitting the wrong buttons), but the game is very enjoyable overall :)

matzetoni 2018-08-14 20:52

Neat puzzle game, the dialogue and humor was on spot. I really liked this one. Note: I noticed some graphical bug, where there flashed something like a grid every 10-20 seconds over the screen (anyone else?)

swini 2018-08-15 14:21

Cool puzzle game with pushing blocks around! Like these typ of games!! Keep going! Good mechanics!

velvetlobster 2018-08-17 14:33

This is really clever, reminds me a bit of a puzzle game I can't remember the name, but it was about rolling stuff on a grill

marcenat 2018-08-17 14:59

@velvetlobster I think you are talking about *Stephen Sausage's Roll*. Yes in the middle of the dev I realized the similarity :) The movement with the box is the same, but use in a different way here, as the main issue is "how" to turn, whereas in Sausage Roll the focus is more on "where" to turn.

velvetlobster 2018-08-17 20:10

@marcenat yes, that game is amazing! I love puzzles with simple rules. Yours is a very good example of it I think. Nice work!

raziyya 2018-08-18 11:21

Really good use of the theme to make an interesting and challenging puzzle game. Great music and cute graphics. The binding for the rotations did get in the way of me fully enjoying though.

optimans 2018-08-21 10:41

Really great puzzle game! Gets really frustrating after a while, the theme is perfectly matched! If I'm not holding any box I would prefer to be able to rotate of 180 degrees, but it's a minor complainment, really good audio and theme!

mza 2018-08-21 10:52

Spot on with the graphics. IT looks like a very polished game. You have rebindable keys too, which is very rare in LD jam games so well done on programming that. Solid entry!

hauo 2018-08-21 11:31

Very cute. A game that really would not feel out of place right on your phone or tablet. I really enjoyed the characters and the mood they invoked, making it just not just another "face-less" puzzle game.

That said, Its kind of what I expect a puzzle of this kind to be and if there is anything to criticize is, that while nice, it did not really offer me with any surprises or something that challenged my expectations. That's not necessarily bad, but personally I cant play more then a few levels before I find it a bit much (the characters did help however).

I also find there where a bit to many controls (a nice touch to be able to rebind them). I don't really get why i need four buttons to rotate! Why not just have one for Left and one for Right rotation? I could see the use for four if you can rotate more then one step at the time, but at the moment you cant.

Great job! Cheers

marcenat 2018-08-21 12:13

@hauo I made several iterations on the controls and I'm not fully satisfied, but keyboard is simply not the best choice for rotation: the problem with only two buttons, one for left and one for right, is that it works only when your character is facing down. If it is facing up your expectations are reversed (you hit right to go left). So I did a couple of playtests with two and four buttons, and four buttons wins: basically two buttons leads to 50% wrong hit, whereas four buttons leads to 25% which is not perfect either.

hauo 2018-08-21 12:34

@marcenat Good point. I guess what I did not like about four buttons is that you always get one that does nothing. I was thinking more of the controls of a top-down car i guess, where you should look at it from the perspective of the bear, so one key is always rotates him clockwise and the other counterclockwise.

You have tested it so I wont argue with that, it just feels a puzzle game of this type has to many keys. Another idea would be to use a "rotate-mode" button maybe? So you ONLY use the arrow keys for movement and instead change there behaviour between walking and rotating. This would bring you down to 6 keys instead of the now 9. Don't know if it will feel very intuitive however.

lekkel124 2018-08-21 12:54

Wow... This feels so polished ! From graphics, to funny dialogues, musics, and remapable keys... It's stunning.

As most of the game is flawless, or has been told already, I'll try to comment on the levels construction of this game... which I don't have much to say about !

I really like how most of the mecanics (except in the beginning but hey, you have to start somewhere) are conveyed by pure gameplay with first, a level introducing the mecanic, then other levels working around it, gradually becoming harder and introducing more mecanics. Often the level names are a useful help, that foreshadow what new problem there will be to slove, and those names can even help even find solutions (I laughed when I saw a level named "mean"... and it was X) ).

However, it might have been an error to introduce the scoring system as such. I tried to get optimal solutions, until I realised that even if I couldn't perform a certain action while holding a box, pressing the key to perform such action would still count as a move. And after wanting to do a 180° angle for the tenth time, the move system became either irrelevant, either bothering.

But hey, I'm complaining about a superb game I really enjoyed, so I'm really looking forward to more !

Keep it up ^^

marcenat 2018-08-21 13:10

@lekkel124 Thank you ! Yes we put a lot of effort making the game seamlessly transitioned from the tutorial part to the real levels. About the move system it is definitively a bug, it shouldn't increase when you try to do an incorrect move, I didn't notice it so thanks for pointing it out :)

jack-lance 2018-08-21 15:53

It got harder than I expected! Very nice looking too for LD. I had a lot of fun, but it was a little annoying rotating and moving around once I figured out what the solution should look like.

wolar 2018-08-21 20:42

Very nice game, probably most polished game I have played so far with so many levels, really good job! There were only 2 things that annoyed me. One was the controls scheme, I have tried to rebind my keys in like 3 different ways and that keybinds for turning always felt arbitrary and unnatural I think this might be solved in a completly different way. The second thing was minor and that was a background that got a little bit annoying after a while.

randomphantom 2018-08-22 07:42

Nice sweet graphics, great music and the puzzles look deceptively simple but are quite a head scratcher! Agree that the controls could be simplified somewhat as you can't turn 180 degrees immediately. Love the character designs too!

cristihkj 2018-08-22 07:42

Great game! Very cool and interesting! :D

retallicka 2018-08-22 13:31

cuute gfx ^^

rik-thunder 2018-08-22 15:46

cute!! But so Hard!! xD I recorded myself playing through this. I'll upload it today or tomorrow, depends. Check it out, if you like : D https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCG--XwkRpPBAHBinS7hsRQg?view_as=subscriber

marcenat 2018-08-22 18:14

@rik-thunder thank you :) Having a video of you playing help a lot to see what works and what doesn't (obviously the turn control are a little weird at first, as others have pointed out)

goffmog 2018-08-22 21:08

This game was so cute I exploded

goffmog 2018-08-22 21:09

Everything from the music to the animations to the little bits of narrative is impossibly charming, precise and polished. This is a top shelf Ludum Dare entry.

zoltancoccyx 2018-08-22 21:31

@rik-thunder Thank you ! Seeing someone play our game and talking about it was extremely satisfying. You've made my week

andrei9 2018-08-22 22:51

Really nice game design here !

diego-escalante 2018-08-23 00:30

Hey, that was a solid, fun puzzle game. Everything is well put together. The only thing that I see could be improved is the turning controls. The defaults for the turning keys are a not conventional. Also, if I am facing up, and I want to face down, its a little frustrating that I have to press right/left before down. But like I said, the game is very fun, you should be proud!

omiya-games 2018-08-24 01:38

I frankly do not know what one is supposed to do with the level, Lateral Thinking.

Edit: Figured it out. Gah, I'm not a huge fan of these, "edit the text file in the game data to make it work properly," kind of puzzles.

marcenat 2018-08-24 17:56

@omiya-games it's more of an Easter egg than a real level :) Thanks for playing !

rahim-pxr 2018-08-27 00:47

Nice game, I hope to see more updates and improvments sooner. If you don't bother take a look at our game when we focused on Graphics and visuals and see the results that we got: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/42/spacelab-42

guladam 2018-08-30 14:47

Easily one of my favourites! :) Awesome art style, lovely music, challenging puzzles, an absolutely polished and amazing experience! Well done guys ^_^

omiya-games 2018-08-31 20:33

I realized I haven't given a proper review for this game. Mostly, I wanted to echo what most people have already said: as a Sokobon-based puzzle game, I think the concept is solid, but the controls left me wanting. I would have desired a full 180 spin, with the game resolving which direction of the spin considered valid, or display a shake animation to indicate both directions are invalid. Level and puzzle design were mostly OK, progressing in difficulty relatively smoothly.
