I really liked the aesthetic and the music, sadly I was held back by being unable to wrap my head around how to perform the double jump which was rather sad. I appreciated their being some input forgiveness on the jumping though, that was a nice touch

I like the concept of loosing hearts to upgrade. I struggled to get past the second level though. Those jumping gaps are ruthless!

I really appreciate the comments personally I didn't think that the jumping mechanic was that hard, maybe because I played it that much. Thanks for the comment! Ps. if you still want to know how to do the double jump, walk up against the block and press w twice(quickly).

Fun little small game. Digging the art and music. Really gave me an atari vibe almost. I like the double jump mechanic. Really innovative way of doing it. It is quite a difficult game with some tricky jumps. Also, dying in level 2 spawns you in a broken location with an invisible wall to the right, and endless void to the left. It was overall quite easy to walk out of the map. Well done overall.

Damn didn't we fix the spawn point on level 2 xD

Please use abstraction for Input in Unity (this will allow me to map my keys), as a european using an AZERTY keyboard, it's unplayable because of the bindings :( Feel free to ping me if you push an update adding it :)
It was impossible to me to pass the second jump, i finish by giving up :/

Well, I'm really sorry to hear all these bugs and glitches I'll look into them and have them updated. @grena I totally get your problem but I'm not yet so experienced to use abstraction for input... I might look into them in the near future.

@heldernogunity you must shoot it multiple times, could you give my game another shot?

@marcenat, You're absolutely right. I encountered this problem too and solved it. Could you maybe try my game once more?

@dusterherz I'm really sorry to hear that the second level last jump is too hard. I fixed it, could you give my game another change?

Okay, I've updated the game so now most bugs you guys pointed out to me are fixed.
I agree with everything the first commenter said. I too struggled with the double jump. It also felt weird to me that 'A' was the jump key rather than Space but to each their own. Congratulations on your first LD!
Nice game! I like the art style. I had a bug, after the second shop. A monster touched me, then I was pushed by the barrier into the pit. When the game restarted, I was insta-killed every time (maybe because the barrier didn't reset properly ?). I like the double jump mechanic and the level design it enables.

Took a little bit of messing around to figure out that double jump mechanic/bug haha. But nice submission!

Fun game and after your information here in the comments I also figured out the double jump (I always tried to perform the second jump mid-air and not right at the start). The shooting mechanic feels pretty clunky and sometimes he wouldn't shoot even if I presssed e or q before, don't know why. When dying on spikes I also landed quite often in a death loop at the start of the level. see video: https://youtu.be/D_qG-WJFf2Q The fact that you can stand still mid air and also go to the standing sprite in that case is also a little awkward. Despite this beeing quite some negative points I liked the game and completed every level, also I liked the graphics.
@tempii I know that there was a bug related to the dying system, i'm working on a fix right now. Thanks for your feedback.
@marsheleene Thanks for your feedback, i will be looking in to how to fix this problem soon. There are some bugs because this was my first jam and the time management didn't quite go as planned on the last day.
@bakenshake thanks for the feedback, i know it might feel weird and i might change it later.
Its a hard game but it was really fun to play.
@pedro137br Glad to hear you liked it, i have to admit that i also had troubles getting the last few levels but it needs to be challenging in order to be more fun.

Double jump mechanic was weird, but once I got used to it it's really fun! Perfecting it opens up new paths in later levels and that I really appreciate! Maybe to help tutorialise the double jump dont put a death pit on the first one (just a high wall to reach). Dying and having to run all the way back to test out how it works got a little tedious.

Pretty nice game. The controls were a bit cranky at first but after playing a little I got the hang of it. I also encountered a glitch where after pausing or something (idk what I did) i got stuck in the sand wall and could do nothing.
Anyways it was a pretty cool game, nice interpretation of the theme. Nice job.
@fingamer Thanks for the feedback, i will be looking at that issue.
@jam373 Thanks for the feedback you gave, glad to hear you enjoyed it after all. And the game is meant to be a little hard at first because i want it to be challeging

Thanks for trying to make a Linux release. Installing through the itch launcher, I get "No executables were found" when I try to Launch the game.

@marcmagus I'm so disappointed to hear, I thought I made a good version for Linux(surely not then). I don't have a Linux so can't test anything... if you have any suggestions your welcome to contact me.

Really unintuitive controls for the double-jump (why not just allow a second jump in midair like most games?) and shooting. Also, on the second level it's possible to just jump over the exit door and fall into an endless blue void.

@ryusui Thnx for the feedback. We didn't intend on having a double jump at all. But because of using a rigidbody for jumping, it would add up so you would get the double jump motion. This is why we left it in there. I'll have a look at level 2.

@retti01 You too. I've heard several times that the controls are a bit hard at first and when you get the hang of it, it feels much better. Next time I'll or make it more clear or have simpler controls.

The levels are the real highlight of this game, it's a lot of content and the levels are tuned very well for such a short timespan. Challenging but definitely doable, and I got to the end for the nice message. The wall enforced a fast pace and added intensity but it was a fair pace too.
To improve:
- Sometimes I couldn't shoot despite being in shooting position for no reason
- After buying from the shop I couldn't buy again after dying and I don't think I still had the power-ups
- Minor weirdness like dying again instantly after respawning and general control smoothness could be improved some.

@gentel what great feedback! I adore hearing that you've enjoyed this game and found it appealing. Unfortunately, you had to deal with the bugs. The ones you have pointed out for me will be looked at and hopefully fixed. Once more thank you and have a beautiful rest of the day.
Ps. That you made it all the way till the end though xD great respect!

Managed to finish, but this was a tough little platformer!
The graphics were charming, and the western-sounding music was nice too. I've never seen a double jump mechanic where you spring off the corners of terrain like this, so nice innovation there! Timing your jump and catapulting yourself in the air like that felt really nice. I appreciated the cacti in the background too, for helping me gauge the distance of my jumps, when I couldn't see what I was landing on.
I felt mixed on the stand-and-shoot mechanic; it was retro in a fun way, and made the act of aiming and shooting an enemy something you'd need to take time to do. But it also did feel a little clumsy, or like it broke the momentum of the game when time was of the essence. Death audio also stuttered or repeated sometimes when you died on the spikes, but it wasn't a big deal.
One thing I might've changed is the way some of the later levels respawn you very close to the sandstorm/wall, and the way it moves nearly as fast as you. Unless platforms are perfectly spaced, you keep losing your lead every time you jump... and a lot of jumps are necessary! Also, it leaves you no time to stop and shoot enemies who were too tall to jump over. It felt a little unfair, that taking damage was mandatory in some of the later levels.
Overall, nice job y'all! Especially for a first Ludum Dare. Congratulations on your entry!

@solifuge Thanks for the feedback, we added extra jumps in levels for you to decide to either skip them or take them. the shooting mechanism is indeed a bit clumsy but we didn't quite have the time to make a whole new system for it. There are indeed some hard level spawnpoints and the wall is sometimes close to you and it is pretty fast indeed, this was done to add some more difficulty to the game and have another aspect you need to thing about. Glad to hear you enjoyed it overall!
Thanks for submitting your game for me to play on my livestream!
