I'm ready!

You know, I was super surprised when I first read the description about the minimalist tools you used to make your game. Once I collected all the coins, I was expecting something else to happen, but when that simple sound effect played with a "You Won!" message, I just sat there for a solid 3 seconds until I burst out laughing. I got so much joy from that that I played the game 3 more times. The sheer simplicity of this actually made me love it all the more.

Even though you didn't really use the theme at all and the game is super simplistic, you're getting a 5/5 for humor and fun from me, I truly enjoyed this, well done! Hahaha

@adam-elaoud Hahaha I was very happy that you liked it, thank you very much xD :D

I made it to level 24, and I'm not gonna lie, it was getting stressful haha. Overall it was a very simple, yet quite fun and addictive. The sound effects were very satisfying, and fed into the addictiveness I think. In the future adding a bit of visual flair will go a long way to drastically improve simple games like this. Overall, well done, and keep up the great work! :D

I like the progression. I feel like the player sped up a bit after the first level (or maybe that was my imagination). Pretty straightforward gameplay, solid enough. Nice audio. Fun to race around the level. I played through 4 levels. Extra credit for not using a big game engine.

AH NO I got a score of 22 :weary: This was fun! It took a while for me to understand the difficulty behind it, but once I noticed the timer getting shorter and shorter, I realized that a simple concept was getting quite hard to keep up with. The controls felt responsive and fluid, though I had a lot of trouble getting coins that were a diagonal from my current position. It often felt like I couldn't make very short movements and kept circling around a single coin trying to get it. Other than that, I liked zipping around the small area, trying to collect all the coins back and forth. You picked some good sounds that work with the game. Perhaps adding a couple more different coin sounds of varying tones and randomizing those sound effects would add some extra flair in the audio department. It was a quick and easy to learn experience overall, though.

@ohfiddlediddle level 24? you're the best! I'm glad you liked it, thanks for playing it! :D

matu 2019-05-01 00:39

@plexsoup Yes, each time the level is increased, the speed is increased and the playing time is reduced, the real challenge is from level 15 onwards xD, thanks for playing it!

matu 2019-05-01 00:44

@random-storykeeper yes, the real enemy is the speed increase xD Thanks for playing it!

jayometric 2019-05-01 03:04

You get SO FAST at level 20+. Fun little game!

svntax 2019-05-01 04:46

I got to level 23 before losing. I like how in a way, the movement getting faster actually makes it harder to collect the coins.

mamoniem 2019-05-01 10:15

Crazy one, it started boring game, and ended up being very challenging.

Also good job, as it seems you made your own game from scratch not using any modern engine, via something like allegro, which is impressive!

Regarding the gameplay, my only recommendation is to make sure no coins are spawned behind the UI text, as most of the time, I know that I've collected everything, but the level not ended, and by looking carefully, i find a coin is behind the text.

My only recommendation is not about the game itself, it is to use something like itch.io or dropboox, as mediafire required med to use VPN to access it.

So simple but fun !

zeaga 2019-05-02 01:06

Very nice! The fact that you did this in allegro both terrifies and intimidates me. It's refreshing to play a game with such responsive controls, as simple as it is

ratrat44 2019-05-11 05:00

Very simple and fun. I love the blue whale you play as... or is it a guy with no arms?

pilly 2019-05-21 04:25

I won! Well, up until level 24. I definitely exploited the fast diagonal movement :D

preda 2019-05-21 13:34

Its actually a pretty fun little game. Going faster seems op at first but then it makes you inaccurate. Nice!

aurel 2019-05-21 15:22

Made it all the way to level 22 - I was thinking that something was wrong because the player kept going faster and faster, but then I realized that was the main challenge mechanic.

An interesting little standalone, and props to you for writing your own engine for it - that's never easy! I think as others have mentioned that the diagonal movement needs to be balanced a bit.

In terms of sound - it could have used some music to set a better ambience - or a bit of story - who am I? Why am I collecting these coins?

We also had a coin collecting game and our sound guy had a hard time nailing down the coin sound - our initial coin sound sounded very much like yours (bicycle-bell-esque).

webox 2019-05-21 15:48

Well after level 23 it's almost imposible to win haha, the shortest movement is too big and you end up having coins that are impossible to pick. It's a fun little game!! Also, pusiste perdiste en el mensaje final! te quedo en espaƱol :P jaja. Overall great job!! I think you're reaching 20 no son congrats on that!

matu 2019-05-21 16:01

@webox some words were left in Spanish. in the hurry to check bugs, I did not realize that detail xD

vodzik 2019-05-21 18:01

Fun game! Coin collecting sound was satisfying :)
