Hope to play it on macOS

evil-as-shit 2017-08-01 10:22

Funny stuff in this game! Art was enjoyable as well. Great job overall.

jaakko 2017-08-01 10:53

Very nice. Became pope in three days.

vovin 2017-08-01 12:33

It's good to be ~~king~~ pope-emperor :smiley: Great art, good job.

eliana 2017-08-02 01:26

Is the name and that logo a shout-out to Long Live The Queen? If so, that is awesome. :)

Anyway, I like the idea and the mechanics, though I haven't successfully made it to election day; it's quite difficult! How many days do you have to survive? I can barely survive for 10! xD

Also, just so you know, you've got a typo, and maybe a bug? On help screen 2, it says "active at a high level". I think you meant activate. ;). And clicking "Cancel Policy" on the Campaign Promises cancels the policy I have selected but doesn't bring me back to the main screen so I can do something else. Not sure if that was supposed to be intentional. :(

cttfow 2017-08-02 06:44

@eliana

Thanks for the feedback! And yeah, the name and the logo were very much influenced by LLTQ!

The game takes place over 7 days. However, not only do you have to survive for the week but also gain at least 136 voters by the 7th day.

You were right about the word active, it should have been activate instead. Didn't notice that before! And yeah, the cancel policy button unfortunately doesn't work as an escape from the window, but what you can do to get out is to apply 0 policies and click "Apply" which will take you back to the main screen.

Awesome game! Loved it, it make me think of Rogue State, less complex but much more beautiful. (Less complex is normal due to the time frame)

What I liked:

- The game-play (obviously) - The graphics are of extremely high quality - The music fit the mood

What could be improve:

- I would have prefer to have the number of my support per faction always visible on screen, I kept forgetting them and had to open multiple times the newspaper per day - The text displaying the approval/disapproval of each policy should be more clear to read. This can be as easy as adding a tab after the ':'

``` Worker: mild disapproval Corporation: high approval Fundamentalist: mild approval Young: Extreme disapproval ```
becomes
``` Worker: mild disapproval Corporation: high approval Fundamentalist: mild approval Young: Extreme disapproval ```

- Some UI improvement like the previous one, like making sure that the faction are always listed in the same order (not sure if that's already the case)

But all of theses sight issues don't remove from the greatness of the game! Congratulation, this is a gem.

sampointoh 2017-08-05 19:50

i'm a politics buff and this was great fun! some pointers: maybe some of the promises could have been more varied? also the 7 day cycle wasn't clear so that should be made clear but that's a simple fix. had lots of fun pissing off certain groups (the corporations and fundamentalists lol) and could see myself playing again. lots of fun, thanks for making!

mestrerothld 2017-08-07 02:20

Amazing entry. Besides the UI improvements already mentioned, I have nothing to complain about the game. Very nice promises you put there. I'm interested in knowing which ones you didn't put into the game...

Congrats and good luck!

bombjack 2017-08-07 11:32

Original game concept. Not my personal taste but still fun.

cnoble 2017-08-07 11:55

That was fun! Neat, new concept, excellent art and a nice little background theme song to boot! My little pig didn't make it into office. It took about until Day 3 for me to figure out what was going on, but other than that, that was a fun little game! Keep up the good work! :)

wwwhizz 2017-08-07 13:41

Nice work, it's hard to make a policital game! Not a big fan of the genre, but well done!

mamoniem 2017-08-07 14:29

Hahaha, good game about something i don't like (being a business capitalism pig) :D but i enjoyed it!

Apart form the long text and few ui bugs i met, all was good.

Good job!

tori 2017-08-07 15:16

Cool game, i liked the idea and the take on the theme, I won because workers and young ppl was pleased with my idea, which is a good point Too bad i won't keep any of my promises :/ but apart from this, i loved the music, and the visual, the game feel very polished and finished for a jam

phlip45 2017-08-07 15:29

Music was good, art was above average for a menu based game. Balance seemed a little off? I am bad at these games but it seems like the fundamentalists HAVE to be pleased because their detriment is just too extreme. All three of the others just take money, but you don't lose for having no money, only no supporters. I was also confused because I became pig pope but didn't have 136 voters, only like 85 voters. So either that wasn't a winning end screen, or something weird is going on there.

EDIT: I figured out that pig pope was the fundamentalist bonus thing. I also learned to play a bit better and used the fundraising and advertisements. Played it a couple times before I won so balance does seem pretty good.

Overall I liked it, I just wish it was a bit more clear in terms of what is happening each day. Having an end of day results screen with what effects happened that day could be really useful.

fusionnist 2017-08-07 16:03

Pretty funny game, especially considering how much of an utopia this is if I get killed for losing an election... I wanted dubstep as national anthem and video games to be a sport but it seems that prevented me from winning... the more you know :P Overall good, though a few options seemed to be more of a distraction: I couldn't fundraise properly so bribing and sabotaging weren't much help. Advertising did the trick though! Overall however, really neat game! Congrats!

pixel-game-wizard 2017-08-07 20:57

Neat little game.

The music fit really well.

I had a lot of fun picking policies and going through all my options. :-)

I'm not sure if this is a bug (I didn't see it in the comments), but I couldn't see the Youngsters' support level after a while playing. I knew it was above 40 because the bonus effect was active.

Good job with this entry!

cliffracerx 2017-08-08 06:48

Another brilliant bit of political satire; this is the second Not Quite Legitimate Election game that's shown up LD39 and I love it. Simple, fun, and witty, with a fantastically earworm-inducing soundtrack.

Only bug I encountered is it seemed like the 0 Support state for the Megacorporations would stick around even after support was returned, and it'd cause the actual support number to stay off-screen. Other than that, I have zero quibbles. Nice work! :thumbsup:

cttfow 2017-08-08 11:53

@cliffracerx Thanks for the feedback! We noticed the bug earlier and thought we had fixed it already, but apparently something went wrong. Which version were you playing?

alwaysinbeta 2017-08-08 16:29

Thanks that was really good fun! The graphics are great and the writing really stands out. I failed trying to please everyone!

ramlefant 2017-08-08 16:57

Fun game! I find the promises rather amusing. Great work!

tero-pulkkinen 2017-08-08 17:28

the graphics is pretty nice, but too static...

urbanhelsing 2017-08-08 19:21

First of all, very nice drawings! I enjoyed the humor a lot, fun to read all of the campaign promises. It takes a while to get into though. Maybe a progression of some sort would be nice, where the different features are unlocked during the gameplay.

demi 2017-08-09 11:53

Really lovely Art and nice Gameplay. And I really loved the Endscene of failing.

furkanfs 2017-08-09 12:33

Very nice and fun game! I liked the promises and how funny they were. The art was pretty nice too. Just the music was the same all the time, but it was not bad. I managed to become president without bribing, just with promises. I dont intend to keep them though.

gistnoesis 2017-08-09 13:32

Reminded me of democracy. Unfortunately you don't compare favourably. It took me my first whole campaign to understand how to raise money. (You need to do nothing else on this day). It's explained in the help. But nobody reads help section nowadays. Then I insta-lost for fund-raising 2 times in a row. The 7 days campaign are way to short for any long term strategy. It has some potential but still needs a lot of work. Nice graphic. Nice sound-effect.

krunoslav 2017-08-09 14:14

Nice game! I liked the characters, it remember me Democracy, with different kind of parties, but more corrupt :D I liked the posbilites that you have in each turn.

If you open a menu when other menu is already open, the first could close automaticly. It would be nice to always see how many supports do you have. I feel that the supporters are too volatile, sometimes I get 30 and then just 3. Maybe it is realistic, but for the gameplay it is a bit hard.

cttfow 2017-08-09 15:57

Thanks everyone for your kind words and criticism as well!

@GistNoesis It's true there's a lot of reading (probably way too much) but in order to figure out the game, for now it is necessary. Fundraising is realistically speaking probably useful to do only once during the game (are you sure it worked properly? We've looked into a bug that causes fundraising to fail, that may be the reason you did it twice? It should be fixed shortly, though).

@phlip45 Thanks for the feedback, yeah, the pig-pope ending is indeed the perk you get from the fundamentalists once you get 70 supporters. I agree that the game may seem pretty difficult and imbalanced at first and that may not have been the best idea for a LD game (glad to hear you stuck through and gave it a few tries, though!)

@fusionnist Thanks for pointing out the bug. It seems that the debuff from the corporations doesn't disappear, which is why fundraising has been impossible. The bug should be fixed very soon.

raunaq-s 2017-08-09 16:02

Genuinely laughed at the Campaign promises I could make, great job with the humor and the atmosphere. One thing I would have really enjoyed is to have icons to denote the effects of actions as opposed to text, it's a little thing that would make the experience a lot more intuitive. Great job, I'll continue to lie and cheat my way to a win in the meantime.

pixel-game-wizard 2017-08-09 16:07

@cttfow I'm pretty confident I was playing the web version

badly-drawn-rod 2017-08-09 20:09

Very amusing. I ended up as bacon, so clearly the electorate figured out that I was telling porkies.

pyokoanarogue 2017-08-09 21:24

Very well themed and with delightful copy and art. became bacon pretty fast, maybe politcs aren't my thang. some easy bribes or a learning curve would be nice to have the player hooked more easily! ( but that's easier said than designed and balanced ) all and all a nice entry.

pavelsovushkin 2017-08-11 10:22

Nice! But when you add new Ui don`t do they transperent on another 1c5c732b32729840c1bf9311b3a194d0.png

cttfow 2017-08-11 10:31

@pavelsovushkin Hadn't noticed that before! Fortunately there's the "hide" button you can use.

theflyingkeyboard 2017-08-11 11:56

Really nice game with amazing concept of gameplay, but needs some polishing as said previously in comments. Great Job!

schu 2017-08-11 19:39

The concept is really neat and I had a lot of fun playing! The audio sometimes stops which is jarring but the graphics are great. I found it to be a bit too complex for how easy it is but overall great work!

vasco-rodrigues 2017-08-11 21:33

Good game, really liked the approach to the theme. The humor and atmosphere were great. Despite having lost after 4 days (I'm not very good at these type of games :p) I enjoyed having a lot of options to choose from. The only downside was some UI problems, but those were already mentioned. Overall it's a very good game! Congratulations :)

c0nst4ntin 2017-08-11 21:44

Good interpretation of the theme! I really enjoyed playing!

strannix 2017-08-14 06:57

There were some bugs in the perks we thought we fixed but our fix didn't work. Oops. I've updated all the builds to the latest version.

Also the panels should now close if you open another one, so you don't get the overlapping panels that Pavel noticed.

qzqxq 2017-08-14 09:13

There are definitely a lot of mechanics to take in at once, but once I understood what was going on, I couldn't stop laughing the whole way through. I have to applaud the writing: everything from the campaign promises to the groups of voters was hilarious and well-written. And I can't believe that it was actually possible to win through becoming a pope-emperor!

The visual design and graphics are great, and the music is nice to listen to. The only real complaint I have is that the gameplay itself feels a little lacking. It's supposed to be a strategy game, but it's hard to plan a strategy when you only have a vague idea of what some things do (like making a campaign promise or spending money on advertising). Also, there wasn't much of a challenge: once I read all the rules, I just picked the policies that workers and youngsters liked and won without having to spend any money on advertising or bribing (if only that's how elections worked in real life... :P). I feel like game balance took a back seat to humor and polish (not that that's a bad thing, given how much I liked pretty much every other part of this game).

There was a small bug I encountered where if you click advertise without spending any money, the "actions planned for today" still has advertise. A few more things: - I wish there was a "back" button on the "Manage Funds" and "Campaign Promises" screens. - It's a little weird how you can't click on the phone if you select fundraising, but you can click on the typewriter. I feel like you should always be able to click anything, so you can see your options.

Overall, this was absolutely hilarious, and I very much enjoyed it, even if it was a little light on the actual gameplay. Great job!
