LD39 — Running out of Power

The Hall of the Sorcerer King by celia14 2017-08-02T20:38:16Z

Glad to see I'm not the only person who made a Twine game for LD39! I enjoyed it, especially the little icons keeping track of which spells I casted where & which way I went. Nice job!

A few small glitches: when I cast a 15 mana spell(Polyglot) while having 10 mana, mana was set to 0 but the green boxes were completely filled up as if I had 40 mana. And, I'm not sure if this was intentional, but when I drank the health potion at full health, my max health increased to 60. I'm not sure if you meant for your max health to be 40 or not?

ALSO would that name happen to be a reference to Grieg's In the Hall of The Mountain King? I love that piece. :)

Exile by yves 2017-08-03T00:40:10Z

This looks great! Any chance of you releasing a Mac version, though? I'm a Mac user and can't play. :(

Away Team by Joe Miller 2017-08-03T00:42:02Z

Oooh, a resource sim game! But I'm on Mac; will you be releasing a Mac port?

Hope Glider by Spotline 2017-08-04T15:08:04Z

This sounds interesting, but I can't play atm because I'm a Mac user. Do you have any plans to port it to Mac?

Light Conversation by s1lv3r Dr4g0n Games 2017-08-03T01:03:27Z

Very short. Also, I how you choose "Yes." or "Yes?". xD The game ended very abruptly when I chose to give power to the thing, making there be no narrative payoff; I'm not sure if that was a mistake or due to creating this in such a short time. Thought I should bring it to your attention, though, just in case. :)

Wow, this was amazing. Great graphics, mechanics, & use of the theme; overall; it was just really, really great. One thing, though(& I don't know if this was a glitch or intentional)-- you can slash at enemies through fences & hit them while never getting hit by them(because they won't even try to hit you); like I said, I'm not sure if that was intentional or not. Oh, and the dialogue box not disappearing when you were done talking to someone. I get the feeling you didn't get a chance to fix that before the jam ended, though, and that's fine. Also, I wouldn't say the beacons are scattered "all across the land" when they're all pretty close to the village, but that's just a nitpick. ;) Seriously, this is amazing. Excellent job!

Unfortunately, your weblink gives a 404 error and, since I have a Mac, I can't download the zip file & play your game that way. Please let me know when you update the link, as I'd like to play it! :)

Outlet Rush by fraanns 2017-08-02T00:57:14Z

Definitely a unique and funny approach to the theme! The graphics are simple, almost minimalist, and I really liked them. I just wish the character's jump wasn't so floaty & didn't take so long, because needing to wait for your character to land is a little annoying when you're on a timer. ;)

Long Live The Pig by CTTFOW 2017-08-02T01:26:41Z

Is the name and that logo a shout-out to Long Live The Queen? If so, that is awesome. :)

Anyway, I like the idea and the mechanics, though I haven't successfully made it to election day; it's quite difficult! How many days do you have to survive? I can barely survive for 10! xD

Also, just so you know, you've got a typo, and maybe a bug? On help screen 2, it says "active at a high level". I think you meant activate. ;). And clicking "Cancel Policy" on the Campaign Promises cancels the policy I have selected but doesn't bring me back to the main screen so I can do something else. Not sure if that was supposed to be intentional. :(

Healing Touch by linseyray 2017-08-04T15:09:09Z

While the idea of an interactive comic is interesting, this was very, very short, and it took me a minute to realize I really had to use all the keys on my keyboard(as that's not normal in most games). I also don't see how this relates to the theme; could you possibly explain that?

Fugetaboutit by Scared Square Games 2017-08-04T15:09:07Z

The idea itself is interesting, but having to click "Next" over and over just to see something happen is tiring. I would understand if there was something you could do on the main screen(that has your family members, money, & meters for different stats), such as bribe the police/politicians/members of different families or patch up injured family members before going to the next day, but you can't. I would've put both the random events & the main screen on 1 screen, instead of having to click "next" & go to a new screen every time.

Dynasty Through The Decades by Jamie McClenaghan 2017-08-03T00:38:07Z

This looks interesting! Too bad it's Windows only, though, I would've loved to give it ago. Any chance of you guys releasing a Mac port? If you do, tweet at me; my twitter handle is on my LDJam user page. :)

Bright Plateau by fmdkdd 2017-08-02T15:53:12Z

Definitely enjoyed it; the mechanics of each different power source were well done, though i will say there were some points where I thought moving something somewhere would overload a house but it actually didn't...the game seems to be a little fickle about when a house gets overloaded or not. ;) Anyway, it's a nice little game; good job on your entry!

The Book Of Dawn by SophistiCat Games 2017-08-03T00:52:56Z

The art is fantastic-- I can't believe it was done in 72 hours!-- but this doesn't really seem to be a game as much as a place for people to put some little comments & things. Also, the magic didn't seem to be running out for me; it stayed at a certain level, went up by 1, and then stayed there...not sure why that happened. :)

VAER by daninfiction 2017-08-04T15:08:52Z

Ooooh, this looks so good; I love the screenshots! But I'm a Mac user, so I can't play your game! Do you have any plans for a Mac port?

Her Final Words by Eliana 2017-08-02T20:20:35Z

@lynnaria Thank you very much! Based on your comments, it looks like I've accomplished what I've set it to do with this story, and that makes me happy. :)

Your game looks interesting too; the screenshots look lovely. I'd love to give it a go, but it's Windows only, & I have a Mac. :(

All the best to you! ^_^

Her Final Words by Eliana 2017-08-03T12:35:32Z

@celia14 Short & intense-- that's exactly what I was going for, as well as ramping up the tension throughout the game. Thank you very much!

@quaternius Yeah, I playtested the game a lot to get the timing juuuuust right; I'm glad it turned out well! I don't write for a living, but I would love to do freelance game narrative designer work. :)

@uniday studio Thank you very much! I definitely agree with you on the UI; I didn't change too much of Twine's defaults, except for some of the colors. I wrote, coded, & made SFX for this in 24 hours, so I unfortunately didn't have time to alter the UI much! I'm hoping to release a post-jam version that updates the UI & also adds background music, so stay tuned!

Her Final Words by Eliana 2017-08-03T20:51:13Z

@designernap Yeah, the whole concept was designed around who to talk to at the end, which is why there weren't a lot of choices. I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Her Final Words by Eliana 2017-08-04T21:57:56Z

@somnium & @abdullah-sulayfani Thank you both very much! And nice haiku, @somnium ! :)

Her Final Words by Eliana 2017-08-11T21:22:12Z

@iamsodarncool You've never played an interactive fiction game before? Well, I'm honored that Her Finals Words was your first, and that you liked it! Thank you for your kind words! I will say though that the game wasn't inspired by Worm, as I have not read Worm. :) @simonhutchinson I'm glad my game helped you reconsider interactive fiction as a medium; I think IF has a lot of potential. Thank you for playing, and I'm glad you enjoyed it!

The Crossing by Crabman 2017-08-02T16:01:26Z

I personally didn't find it very engaging, as you're basically just waiting for a meter to run out so you can fill it again. It's like Oregon Trail without any events, and sadly that doesn't make for a very interesting game. Congratulations on completing your entry, though, and in just 4 hours at that. :)
