I loved it! Only played the tutorial because I haven't set up my room scale correctly but I love it! I got climbey vibes, but with some research it seems that's your game so that makes sense! Will definitely play more once I've fixed my setup.

EDIT: when I setup room scale I found a couple of issues. Firstly I went in through the roof vent on the tutorial but then ran out of power and was stranded and secondly the vent to the intel room was a bit too high, although it was fine on the first run...

Nice minimalistic graphics!

I liked this very much. First, it was hard for me to figure out how to punch yourself over the wall. I thought you had to punch against the wall or something, but yeah I found out eventually. :D I miss a restart level option. I don't want to play through the first levels every time, when I am running out of power. Because of this, I only played the tutorial and tried to beat the first level (where I ran out of power :D).

The moving-mechanics are very cool. For rotating, I think, only tilting the sticks should be enough, instead of additionally need to press them. It probably would feel more fluent then.

Good job!

Awesome stuff! I admit I was hoping to super-man my way through the air with a series of punches, but sadly I couldn't manage much in the way of distance/height. Still, it felt great early on to try a one-two punch using my left arm to pick myself up off the ground, and the right arm to go the distance. It's definitely a fun concept!

Progress: Unfortunately I got stumped on the second level. After a few tries, I managed to get the briefcase up to the rooftop, but was simply out of juice by then. I also found myself a number of times punch-sliding only to find my hand had gone over a bot's shoulder. In any case though, the sense of relief and empowerment when finding the charger on the second level was great!

Fun moment: I actually did a little dance and *tried* to flip two robots the bird after just barely cutting into and escaping through a ceiling-hatch. It was an intense moment!

Usability note: Unfortunately my left arm is pretty messed up, and that came into play. In Climbey I'm able to do pretty well because I can often opt to use my right arm (no per-hand energy mechanic/preference), but it also seems like the difference where Climbey is sudden downward motions (gravity-assisted) while Punchey uses sudden upwards motions (fighting gravity). Still, the motion of punch-sliding across the floor felt great, and was much more reasonable across both arms! :)

P.S. It felt so wooden to be using the standard vive controllers instead of the knuckles. Massive presence-jealousy there!

Nice! I heard you made an entry and I'd been looking for it :)

As other people have mentioned, it took me a while to figure out how to "punch yourself over the wall," but I eventually understood and had fun. The one thing I'd ask for is a health indicator.

shadowbrain 2017-08-02 13:44

@zulubo There is no health! If an active robot hits your head's collider the level restarts haha.

Probably should've made that more clear somewhere.

Awesome! Unfortunately I got stuck in the second level because I didn't managed to jump in the second floor and after a few tries my energy was empty and all batteries were used. Checkpoint would have been nice.

Now this is a proper VR game. I was ready to call it a good game by the end of the tutorial stage, but no, there was another level! Sadly I got stuck in the second level since there were no recharging stations on the first floor and I spent all my energy trying to jump (badly). That's about the only negative thing, the power-jumps are very hard to control/aim.

Another, not really a negative thing, just a curiosity, was that I couldn't figure out how to get to the suitcase in the tutorial level. The entrance was very high, and I could only come up with two solutions: 1) be really tall or climb on a chair IRL, or 2) be very accurate with your power-jumps. I climbed a chair.

Overall, a really cool VR experience.

Couldn't play this but did watch the video - looks super fun and REALLY makes me wish I had a Vive!

brorawr 2017-08-04 13:21

This was super fun! and it made me feel like a super hero

Pros

* Really interesting take on the theme * Smart use of VR, felt fresh * Clear instructions * Smooth animations and clean graphics * Didnt feel repetetive

Cons

* Sound effects were not on the same level as the visuals, felt off and could use some more work. They got repetetive and "stung" a little in my ears with headphones on. (Especially the lightning/charge sounds) * Some of the death sounds on the robots sounded a bit off, Im guessing you went for a Portal feel?

Suggestions

* More feedback when punching enemies, have them blow up or fall apart in a million pieces and/or have insane knockback on them. * Soundtrack * Robots speech sounds, run them through a bit crusher to give them a more robotic feel.

Note that my cons are small things, the entry is solid and I enjoyed playing it!

mamoniem 2017-08-07 17:06

I was hoping to play this game. For some reason can't run it with Oculus & touch!

I didn't play the game, but man... it looks great, I think you can sell this as a finished game, the actual VR games look like your game, and the mechanics look so funny, this is a game I would like to play.

yaroslav-kravtsov 2017-08-17 07:20

I played this game in VR and this was awesome. Gameplay has variety and has big freedom for puzzles and stealth action. I would like to know how you did locomotion. I also made VR game on this LD, but I didn't find a solution to combine arm swinging and proper head collision.

Sometimes when I hitting I also jumping. So I found a workaround - make one fist forward and swing with another to approach to the enemy. This looks fun, but it works.

Unfortunately I cannot play your Windows 64 bit game on my 32 bit machine, could you add another build?

shadowbrain 2017-08-19 10:27

Nope, sorry, VR games (and SteamVR specifically) make use of a lot of ram, and 32 bit systems can only handle 4GB of it which isn't a whole lot, so it makes no sense to be running VR on a 32 bit system, which means you likely don't have VR.

Great entry, i was hoping to see for a VR game from you as I can give it a try for few days and I had a lot of fun :) I couldn't beat it and I stopped when I realized I REALLY HAD to configure my room correctly before playing any more VR games. guess that sad things could happen if I punch the wall with my htc vive controller... Anyway that was a really cool experiment, i spent one hour trying to understand mechanics and get used to controls. The punch move is really something to dig, it really gave me peaks of adrenaline sneaking around the robots and punching them cowardly :D The jump moves work the opposite that I was instinct told me but once I got it it was fine. Moves seems more fast and smooth in the gameplayvideo, maybe am i doing something wrong :) Maybe checkpoints are a cool idea, but I'll try to finish it ASAP ! Funny sfx, nice simple visuals, cool use of the theme... Great job !
