Absolutely brilliant shader. I want to play around with it forever... it actually wasn't too confusing to navigate and read the levels either despite it all being a mess of lines and constantly changing. But the controls were really weird. Super sticky, and I would keep moving and jumping long after releasing the button. I got stuck a few times too and had to restart, and I would've kept going to try to get out, but the controls were too annoying.

mao 2018-08-15 03:54

It looks nice, but there's a lot that isn't clear... For example, is there an objective, or do you just run as far as you can before you get stuck? I liked it, it was fun to go through the environment and watch the ever-shifting level, but I would've liked a little more direction.

jeffalot 2018-08-15 04:32

Loved the ambiance of the game! The visuals were psychedelic with the awesome shader implementation and the sound design really helped sell the feel of the game. I'd agree that the objective was a little difficult to discern and the game could've used a bit more guidance towards where you were ultimately trying to head or what you were attempting to do. The controls also seemed a little difficult to wrangle, mouse controls seemed a bit tighter than I would've expected (requiring wide sweeps of the mouse to control).

mowztouch 2018-08-15 13:53

Is there really an exit? i tried to always go up. and finally reached some kind of highest point of the labyrinth, but can not find anywhere to go, and then i felt again x) Trying to go down always leads to dead end :) All in all this game is one of the my favorite of this jam. beautifull shader and music, insane mechanics. I like this kind of puzzle games. I hope you'll continue the dev, with, may be, a little more info about what i'm supposed to search ^^ <3

gleb-shishov 2018-08-15 16:02

interesting gameplay, I did not understand the control, but then I figured out, I liked it. appreciate our game, too, bro

colorfiction 2018-08-15 16:03

Hi @mowztouch ! Thank you very much :) The exits are in any direction you choose to go really it's just a matter of getting through the obstacles that come in your way.

colorfiction 2018-08-15 16:06

Hi @jeffalot ! Thank you :) Glad you enjoyed the ambiance and visuals! Yes didn't have much time left to build and optimize a smooth fps controller and ended up using Unity's prefab controller which is a bit buggy haha. Also wanted to add an instructions screen but just ran out of time, thank you for playing!

ernest-mccracken 2018-08-15 16:06

Love the graphics! Very fun!

colorfiction 2018-08-15 16:07

Hi @mao ! Thank you for playing the game, the objective is to leave the maze, so basically go in any direction overcoming the obstacles and eventually you'll escape the complex :)

colorfiction 2018-08-15 16:09

Hi @foolmoron ! Thank you for playing the game and enjoying the visuals :) Yes ran out of time and couldn't write a proper fps controller so ended up using Unity's character controller prefab which is a bit annoying at times.

fakefirefly 2018-08-15 16:10

The atmosphere in this game was great. I loved the graphics and the background music matched the kind of retro-techy vibe I was getting.

I didn't really like the movement. It felt clunky and I kept getting stuck on the level. Sometimes, when you go too fast it looks like the level doesn't load in fast enough, which lead to me getting trapped in a wall.

Overall, I like the art direction and sound, but the gameplay is a bit sparse.

steve-sparkes 2018-08-15 16:10

A really nice visual style, my goodness! I enjoyed getting lost in the maze with the music and graphics tripping me out haha. I kept trying to go forward but didn't quite find an ending. Maybe the story is that I just got lost in the maze forever haha! Great job on the entry, keep making games!

glowt 2018-08-15 16:11

I like the aesthetics a lot and the music fit great together. But I felt super confused throughout the whole game and after not finding my way out I had to give up. :/ Would have loved to play more. :)

thought-reactor 2018-08-15 16:18

Really interesting art direction. I loved the atmosphere and the music, really felt like I was trapped in some late 80's computer simulation a la Tron. The gameplay was simple, but well done. That default Unity FPS controller is bit sticky sometimes, but all-in-all this is a super cool entry!

ristoretto 2018-08-15 17:48

What a wild beast, very confusing to navigate a changing space, but interesting at the same time.

I think this could work well with portals :)

My biggest problem is that I don’t really know if it's a walking simulator, a puzzle game or a mechanic driven... survival game? If it's a walking simulator, more focused on the experience, then the player shouldn’t need to restart, there should always be a way forward and if not, possible to backtack to where you came from. If it's a puzzle there should be some way to figure out how it works. If it's a survival game then you want to master the system, get to know it and get better at it. I find that a little frustrating, mostly because it feels so great the first minutes, but I had to give up not finding the after multiple retries.

zozol 2018-08-15 18:47

good job on your game! would love to play something more complex (some sort of escape room maybe?) in this environment you created. do you intend to work on this project further?

flower 2018-08-15 20:29

Very cool aesthetics! Awesome game!)

mao 2018-08-15 21:47

Woo, finally found the exit! Once you know how the game works, there's actually some strategy to using the environment to your advantage. I was kind of put off by the fact that it's very difficult to see any progress, but I figured it out in the end. Making a clearer indicator of progression would probably make this appeal to a lot more people.

bongard22 2018-08-16 01:41

I feel like this would be really awesome if the game had some direction. Like if it was an endless runner or something. Either the visuals and audio were great!

jein-lee 2018-08-16 02:07

This game is aesthetically trippy...

The concept is great, and I think with a bit more polishing this could actually be pretty good, I wish that there was some instructions before the game starts though, i found myself running in an enclosed room for about 4 minutes before i got a bit nauseous, the claustrophobia was real

other than that, music was fitting, concept was good, movement while a little bit flunky wasnt that bad at all, i like it.

draperdanman 2018-08-16 02:35

Another FPS platformer yay! This was really cool, the controls felt a little sloppy. (normalising your inputs and not setting the gravity of buttons to be really high perhaps?) I felt like i was in a cyberpunk virtual reality and the moving walls gave a real sense of urgency! Really cool submission! :muscle:

g4mr 2018-08-16 02:49

Visually this looks awesome, but I wasn't really having a great time. Is it possible to win out of curiosity?

angela-k 2018-08-16 07:40

Looks good but without a clear indicator as to what or where you must reach the filter and visuals become more of an eye sore than the beautiful thing you first see. With more clear direction instead of wandering aimlessly this would be a lot nicer.

mowztouch 2018-08-17 02:31

Woooh ! i came back and finally made it! This game still is my favorite of this jam !

colorfiction 2018-08-17 04:48

Hi @g4mr ! It is possible in a way, but the simulation just restarts itself demanding you to do it 'Again' haha, will probably expand this game into something more full fledged in the near future :)

colorfiction 2018-08-17 04:49

Hi @draperdanman ! Thank you very much I'm glad you enjoyed it :) Yes planning on smoothing these things in the near future, also adding a crouch function so you can get around those difficult obstacles.

colorfiction 2018-08-17 04:51

Hi @angela-k ! Well the purpose is to escape the maze, any direction that you pick will if you overcome the obstacles lead to a way out :)

colorfiction 2018-08-17 04:52

Hi @bongard22 ! Glad you enjoyed the visuals and audio, the purpose is to escape the maze, in a way it's an endless runner :)

colorfiction 2018-08-17 04:52

Hey @mao ! Glad you found the exit and figured out the strategy involved in moving around the space :))

colorfiction 2018-08-17 04:54

Hi @zozol ! Yes I'll prob expand this further in the near future to include multiple mazes and maybe even a map to show progress, tho I feel that might be contra indicative of the feeling of not knowing how close to the exit you sometimes are.

colorfiction 2018-08-17 04:55

Hi @ristoretto ! Glad you enjoyed the experience. It's an escape room style game where you need to find an exit to the complex, there is a puzzle strategy to how you move and whether the path opens up for you or not.

colorfiction 2018-08-17 04:56

Hey @mowztouch ! So glad you found a way out!!!

repusv 2018-08-26 08:29

Nice shader! I didn't really understood how everything is generated or moves so I was really confused as where to go and ended up in holes I couldn't get out of. Even though the game is very good looking, it is not really readable. Anyway very nice first entry!

thegamer1123211 2018-08-26 11:19

Very cool game! The graphics were really good and i liked the way the labyrinth moved. It was just a tad too hard for me :P

cristihkj 2018-08-26 11:34

Great game! Very cool and interesting! :D

even-games 2018-08-26 11:46

love the quake like movement mechanics

reizoukin 2018-08-26 12:22

It's a really cool idea, but I really couldn't see or understand what was happening. I like the use of the shader but it felt like the objects needed more definition

mosaic 2018-08-26 14:06

I like the shader and the concept very much, but it's too confusing for me ;)

figjig 2018-08-26 14:18

Awesome shaders and idea!

vincent-knauss 2018-08-26 21:49

pretty graphics, if sometimes overwhelming. The controls felt a bit like I was on ice, but in some way I feel like that worked with the visual style. overall well done

rahim-pxr 2018-08-27 01:09

Nice game, I hope to see more updates and improvments sooner. If you don't bother take a look at our game when we focused on Graphics and visuals and see the results that we got: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/42/spacelab-42

jordantanner 2018-08-31 20:33

Great immersive mood and ambience. The music track is stellar. I do wish the gameplay had a bit more to it, although I think the shifting maze concept is clever. Was that tough to code? Overall, the aesthetic is the real draw here!
