This is pretty sweet! I love the artwork, the AI seems to have a problem with those bottom squares though which made it a little easy. But overall great job!

Easy to cheat AI by waiting on bottom platform and sidestepping their dash. Presentation is awesome. Bet it's fun 2-player and would make for a great 4 player party game.
Looks amazing, feels satisfying. Gameplay is a bit repetitive
Wowee, I have such mixed feelings. On the one hand, it's stupidly impressive that you got all of that content into the game. Menus, dialogues, multiple levels, EVEN CUTSCENES WAT. It feels like a complete game. And the core idea and mechanics feel pretty good, the juice is pretty good...
BUT.
But the core game loop itself feels lacklustre, are you trying to stomp on the opponent? When you land "on" the opponent, it feels ambiguous, you automatically jump up and to the left? That feels weird. Feels like I'm not in control. Are you trying to stomp out blocks from under the opponent? Basically it feels like I'm just waiting for the other player to make a mistake.
Initially I actually thought there was a Smash Bros mechanic of health going on where the more you get hit the more you go flying when you do get hit, but that doesn't seem to be the case.
And animations - everything feels so good but there's no walk cycle?!?!??! It feels so weird drifting around the way they do now.
I really want to love this!!
This is a pretty unique concept. Dashing feels energetic and is fun to pull off. I like how dashing both shrinks the arena and also stuns the opponent. But dashing also comes with some risk, as it knocks out the platform you land on and leaves you open to an enemy attack should you miss. It feels like the game gets a lot out of this one simple dashing mechanic and has a lot of depth because of it. The pixelated art-style looks nice and I enjoy the monochrome aesthetic, although the lack of a walk animation and music is a bit disappointing. Despite some issues, I enjoyed my time playing this clever little game. Nice work!
Love it! The AI is pretty easy to beat, but it is still satisfying to do it! Love the graphics style, the sound effects are perfect and the intro is cool too.
The AI did seem a little stupid and the theme running out of space seemed to be loosely used with the falling blocks, since the AI was so easy to defeat I never really thought I was running out of space. On the plus side I loved the graphics, the gameplay seems fun and would be interesting when playing multiplayer, and I liked the dialogue and a little story. More randomized dialogue/a taunt button might have been fun.
I played only the single player mode. Dashing downwards feel good. I didn't feel the lack of space, probably because the game ended too early. It could be a good couch game against a human. I had trouble differentiating characters. When your inputs are based on the physical position of keys, please base your input handling on physical key codes instead of virtual keys if the framework you are using allows it. The inputs are misplaced on non-QWERTY keyboards.
It goes without saying, that this will definitely be among the first one hundred winners. Graphics, sound, smooth gameplay, fun gameplay (however, I wasn't able to try multiplayer), and overall feeling of a NES classic. Great entry! P.S: We all know where the inspiration came from, so I won't talk about that ;)
@sentmoraap Non-QWERTY layout support will be added with the post-compo version of the game. Thanks!
Great fun! Quite tricky to get the hang of it, but enjoyed it as I improved. The multiplayer was very fun too! Well done!
This is probably my favourite jam game so far! First multiplayer one I have seen for a ludum-dare. Only thing I would change is the ability to double jump after down dashing. Congrats on your work though!
Agree with others about the AI and some lack of communication in the mechanics. Really cool that you got cutscenes and multiplayer in though! Well done!
Thank you all!
@viater @tattomoosa @tuism @andy-d @gwinnell I know that the AI is not very smart :o: Nevertheless, I already have some ideas on how to greatly improve it and will try to implement them with the post-COMPO version of the game.
I had one more thought - given the exact same mechanics as now, it would feel so much more urgent and the running out of space theme would be much more meaningful if the arena were a LOT smaller like 10 blocks small. Just tiny. Give it a shot maybe.
A decent game. I never really understood what I was doing, but I got through anyway. The intro and cutscenes make it feel complete.
The fighting mechanics weren't that good but everything else other than the theme was fine to me!
This is REALLY good.It has potential to be a full-length game. The graphic and the game itself was so well made, definitely one of the best I have seen so far. However,I found that it was very easy to trick the enemy AI to kill itself.Just stand at the button tile and wait for the enemy to dash to its death.Aside from that at the lack of music,5/5.
The art looks really polished and I like the concept. I wish there was a bit more by way of storyline, though, and the controls felt a bit clumsy.
Oh, my main quibble: I kept getting confused as to which of the characters is controlled by me. I know there's only so much one can do with the color scheme to set the two characters apart, but at times it was frustrating trying to figure out which of the moving figures was responding to my input.
All in all, though, I feel this has the potential to be a great platformer, so I hope you keep working on it.
Pretty remarkable that you were able to pack all that content into this game in such a short time. The artwork is simple yet works so well together. The gameplay does leave a bit to be desired (a bit too simplistic) but regardless, fantastic work.
Very polished art and gameplay. But allow to skip the intro and improve sfx.
A good game idea, the music should be improved. The graphics are good. But our game is better)))
This is really good, the art was well designed, good animations... Good Job !
Lovely graphics, good game! I included it in my compilation video series of the Ludum Dare 42 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/YTqGyFG4tXA
@jupiter-hadley :star: Thank you!! Always fun to watch someone play what you spend so much effort on!
The game is very short and a bit too easy. The art is pretty and gameplay feels good :)
this was a nicely polished game - really enjoyed it - my only complaint is that the jumping felt kind of floaty, but i think that is what you were going for
Great gameplay. Bug - if on landing point of spawned AI-enemy only 1 brick, he always fall down after landing. In that case need change his spawn-position or moving them left-right while falling. And AI often dash brick under himself and fall down.
This meant to be played by two players -- much more fun! And there should be falling bombs to make it more intriguing.

Loved the design of this one! I could definitely see this being a blast with two players. The AI definitely had a few ticks that ended up easy to exploit, but well done implementing a series of levels and enemies to fight in the span of the jam! Thanks for sharing the game with my stream. Your game starts at around 4:03 into the vod https://www.twitch.tv/videos/297479036
@ursagames @icxon @andreymust19 @paulhocker @suchista Thank you so much!! :cool:
Great retro aesthetic here! I like the polish with the intro, dialogue, ending, etc. Definitely a completed game! Perhaps a bit easy, but that may be better than it being too hard. Nicely done!
