Hi Brackeys, I don't know if it's intentional, but the Itch links are not working. Would love to play your game tho.

baraa-marwan 2019-04-29 07:28

Brackeys,Links not working.Even though I know that its an amazing game. And Please check my game here: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/44/$145299

hagge 2019-04-29 09:18

Cute graphics, nice particle effects, well pollished. Simple and understandable mechanics. Could use a restart button. But a very playable and fun experiance in general. Good Job =)

danidev 2019-04-29 09:32

Cool game Asbjørn! The concept is really fun and unique, I really like how you approached it!

geeitsomelaldy 2019-04-29 10:08

Fun game. Couldn't read the first tutorial message because the gravestones were over the top of it. Had to restart and try again to read it.

jiri-hysek 2019-04-29 13:19

Cool entry! I like the visuals it looks great.

Apparently the theme is pretty much the same as last Ludum Dare :) You could easily submit this game on the last LD where the theme was Sacrifices must be made.

Too bad you haven't made any audio (or it's just something broken on my side?). But the time is limited... anyway, if the game has no audio, maybe you'd like to opt-out from the audio category.

Great job though!

cubicode 2019-04-29 14:02

I think the game looks very good. It's easy to play, but I think it's hard to kill the enemies. But that is my fault for sure.

What I am missing is a possibility to restart without reloading the browser. And I did't hear any sound. Is this only me?

thomas-bringer 2019-04-29 16:21

The overall experience is really fun, graphics look nice. But I agree with Cubicode above, there are some minor issues, like the lack of restart button and soundtrack. And obviously, I suck at this, it was hard for me to kill the monsters. Anyway, still a great game :D Now waiting for the video (:

fat-cat 2019-04-29 20:25

I can tell you had fun with the particle effects, and it looks really great, I especially love the fireball explosions! The texture for the walls is also really detailed and pretty. I liked the combat, too.

fibonacci1321 2019-04-29 20:35

You're a God, sir! Seriously, you nailed it!

joemanaco 2019-04-29 21:30

Best polished art for me so far in the compo. The concept is very interesting.

fatcrow 2019-04-30 04:35

@brackeys Fun little game awesome work as usual! Also, thank you for all of your tutorials. You are the only reason I entered this competition! Thank you so so so so so much! :)

adam-elaoud 2019-04-30 05:07

Just wanna preface my review with a thanks for everything you do! It's thanks to you and your team that I was able to submit in my first ever Ludum Dare!

So in terms of the game, I was a bit confused, I really like the concept, great use of the theme, but when playing the game, I wasn't exactly sure what I was supposed to be doing. I just went from room to room clearing out mobs, but there didn't seem to be any end goal for me while I was playing. The art was a bit funky as well. Some of it was super detailed but others not so much, I'm assuming the time crunch must've gotten the best of ya and you had to cut back on the mob art. Overall, I really like the direction you took the theme in, well done!

procezz 2019-04-30 09:28

Nice game! Really like the graphics and the simplicity of the game. Could use a restart button when you die. Also, I found it a bit hard to notice when you took damage from the enemies, maybe a healthbar or something like that would be nice! Fun, and awesome game!

elq 2019-04-30 12:31

Combat felt really stiff and I wasn't sure if I was hitting the enemies or not (or I am just bad at the game). Idea was nice but getting the upgrades didnt't feel like upgrades (maybe I just didn't notice). I liked the graphics and the overall aesthetic.

saering 2019-04-30 12:57

Cool game, I think the attack is a bit too hard to control, you need to get so close to the enemy you just end up running, attacking and hope it will hit, running, attacking... otherwise the game is cool and I like the idea !

roitchie 2019-04-30 18:27

Good game. I like the graphics and use of the theme. Game did get repetitive after a while though, more enemy variety and different enemy behaviour would go a long way to improving this.

ropedog 2019-05-01 01:26

Nice take on the theme! The roguelike aspect of this game adds a lot to the replayability, and I liked being able to go back through areas but faster/stronger. The mood and setting of this game are also really solid. I do wish the upgrades you received would add a little more 'umph' to your character and abilities, and I felt that the sword could have had a bit more range when attacking enemies. Great entry, I had fun playing!

nebrazif 2019-05-01 10:01

Good game !!! You're a real inspiration who made me want to do this jam with my friends, and we did it !

gabrielgamedev 2019-05-01 14:11

Good graphics but lack animations for the characters and sound effects. The attack hit of the enemies could have some attack animation and not just touch the player. Sometimes you can attack but still take damage. Good use of game jam theme.

flamus 2019-05-02 08:50

Fun and simple game to play. Nice take on the theme.

cem-adiloglu 2019-05-02 09:48

always enjoy zelda like dungeon games. I liked sacrificing yourself idea but I think it would be better if when we 'sacrifice' ourselves, the enemies would remain dead

jamesolivermusic 2019-05-02 18:42

Some of the environmental graphics were really pretty. Maybe work on your character models some more... Zombies in tuxedos aren't all that scary ;) Also, perhaps some attack animations might be quite nice.

kregames 2019-05-02 21:11

First I thought it is a randomly generated dungeon. Like in Binding of Isaac. Nice artstyle! I really like what you do, outside of jam works too

purpledartfrog 2019-05-03 11:20

As others have stated as well - you're a great inspiration.. although I must admit I was surprised here... I would have expected a more complete / content rich game. Everything seems to work as it's supposed to but no audio, no game mechanics other than hack/slash and the loose part of your soul. Love the look though. Far superior to my own entry - but expected something a bit more spicy... might be a lack of time issue. Still a solid entry :thumbsup_tone1:

dani-desa 2019-05-03 12:18

Hey @brackeys, are you falling in love for Pixel Art recently? Good use of the theme, quite original in my opinion. To be honest I was expecting more from you this time, looking at your past ludum dare entries. You really feel the lack of sounds (at least in the web version). Cannot wait to watch the "Making Of" video! Thanks for what you do!

bradur 2019-05-05 06:20

This game looked gorgeous! Too bad there isn't any sound. It was a clear homage to Binding of Isaac, and I felt it worked quite well. The movement and animations were quite good and choosing an attribute every time you died was a nice touch.

fear-games 2019-05-05 07:57

Really good fun game. I do agree with the other commenters and think it is lacking a restart button and sound. Other than that it's a great fun game

simone 2019-05-05 20:34

Cool game, too bad for the audio, but on game jam it's normal to have to give up on something :) Cool fact: we had almost the same idea, but I didn't really have time to make all the nice rooms and I had to stick to 2 levels to be able to finish it without completely burning myself

josh-mcmillan 2019-05-05 20:43

Game was really fun! Glad to see you for Ludum Dare, Brackey! I agree, restart button would be handy. Great polish work in graphics and game-play!

simplepotential 2019-05-05 20:56

Some audio would have went a long way to making this feel better but overall it was a good entry otherwise. The attacking seemed to not connect as often as I would have liked. Graphics were really nice!

soggybreadhands 2019-05-05 21:28

The graphics were nice, combat was great and this was a really solid entry however audio would have made the experience that much better, great work tho. Thanks for the game dev tutorials on YouTube, cheers!

saulodaniel 2019-05-05 22:52

Pretty fun.

mharring 2019-05-06 00:46

Nice! Love the graphics. As already mentioned by others, it would be nice to have a restart button. It was also hard to tell if you would hit the enemy before they hit you. That said, this was fun to play!

black-potion 2019-05-06 01:57

Learned a lot from your tuto, thanks @brackeys ! i think i made a game inspired by each of your videos :D one of them is on steam and another one is realising in 3 months. you where a big part of my learning process so thanks a lot.

iceflakeftw 2019-05-06 03:12

Nice concept. Although, it would be great if you make the sacrificing mechanic optional, so that players can use it in their own ingenious way. It should not be a mandate or like Pay to win (die to win). It can be more. Also, combat system has serious collider issues. Good job with the graphics.

tgiant 2019-05-06 06:13

Good game @brackeys except it is a bit difficult for me. Other than that I enjoyed. Well done!

zoneoutapps 2019-05-06 06:56

Classic! Loved the no-hand sword effect...definitely got the sense of swinging the weapon across! :)

jordantanner 2019-05-06 11:03

@brackeys Big fan of the channel. It felt like enemies kept getting through my sword swing. Maybe I was swinging late. Regardless, thanks for being awesome, man! Also, adding "lives" to an otherwise rogue-like design made sense in this game jam context. "Soft-Roguelike"? Love, Jordan.

johnnysix 2019-05-06 13:03

The pixel art is great, would be good to see how much health is left on both the character and the enemies.

Good job for 48h, especially getting so many enemy types in.

mika-la-grand 2019-05-06 13:36

It looked fun in your video and the art is nice. There are quite a few points that need some work though: - It's hard to attack, because he only attacks in the direction he is facing (making it hard to aim). - Enemies seemed to be killing me eventhough they were far away and I was attacking them properly. - Enemies don't telegraph when their are about to attack. - There was no indication of how many times I could still get hit and no indiction that you take damage. - The audio didn't work (webplayer). It also didn't work in your previous jam game Date Night, so it's likely some piece of code that you keep using that is broken. - Upon game over the game doesn't restart, like seriously man.

solah 2019-05-06 19:12

The graphics are good and the main idea is fun but it's so hard to kill enemies with this small sword (Ok, killing enemies in my game is also hard but you don't have to kill them to end the game).

Good job anyway

eduardo-yukio 2019-05-06 19:31

Things I didn't like: - The attack working in the direction the player is facing instead of where the mouse was pointing at felt weird to me. - The hitboxes are a bit awkward, sometimes I was spamming the attack, directly facing the zombies and they hit me. - When I took damage, I expected to lose souls. When it didn't happen I was confused. Maybe if it was clear to the player how many hits he could take before dying and that it was a different mechanic from the souls would make it less confusing.

Things I liked: - Amazing art and animations. I follow your youtube channel for a while and seeing that you are primarily a programmer, but you also make beautiful art, it's inspiring. - The souls being used to buy upgrades fits the theme very well. - The rooms systems was very well thought.

Nice game!

webox 2019-05-07 03:07

Oh man, too bad you didn't make in time to add music and sfx!! The game fells like a full rogue like!. The combat was a bit complicated (at least playing with the keyboard, idk if it can be played with joystick). Also I wasn't sure how much life I had left between deaths. Great job! loved it!

garys 2019-05-07 16:30

Great pixel art... I would have liked some visual inidication as to how many hits I could take, and I found it hard to tell if and when an attacker would hit me, collision-wise. I didn't get any audio either, not sure if it should be there?

neowhoru 2019-05-08 20:00

Great Art and great game - well sometimes is it hard to hit the enemy. But overall a good game :)

jka 2019-05-09 11:51

Nice game! Graphics look really good, I especially liked the effects you used. I had a bit of a problem with hitting enemies without getting hit myself, so I didn't really get very far, but maybe I just suck.

luckydaisy 2019-05-09 16:30

Attacking felt a bit awkward but I definitely kept retrying to get the hang of it. The art feel was really nice

oivin-f 2019-05-11 11:57

Cool idea and cute execution, however I find the gameplay somewhat unenjoyable unfortunately.

neontropics 2019-05-19 13:20

Nice graphics!

Movement does not seem to be normalized so you move a fair bit faster when moving diagonally. Some audio feedback when attacking / hitting enemies / getting hit would do wonders.

conk 2019-05-19 19:00

Awesome! Very fun and cute. I really liked the pixel art but do get a little irked when such a different range of pixel ratios are used :stuck_out_tongue: Might just be a me thing though. I liked the game-play but felt the combat was a little too tricky, as seeing how the enemies applied damage was fairly ambiguous and I died more than I felt I should.

Overall, a really solid game! Great job :grinning:
