Solid entry. I enjoyed it a lot ^^
Fun, I enjoyed the random mutterings from the little old man. Great job!
Awesome! Good mood and sound design to go with it
The dialog of the old man was great, actually laughed out loud while playing!
Nice job on this, I really enjoyed it. A few critiques that I have on it: - This felt more like "Running out of time" rather than "Running out of space". I couldn't even dig out the entire starting area before I was over-run with corpses, and things decayed faster than I could bury them (especially once I got the maggots). - It felt like the targeting was off from time to time, not enough to really be a problem, but noticeable. - The extra zombies felt more like a late-add rather than adding anything to the gameplay.
Besides that though, the presentation was great... the sound effects added a lot to the fun of the game, and the graphics were solid. I ended up playing through day 5 or so before stopping (can't spend too much time on specific games unfortunately), but what I played was fun and engaging.
Very fun! The controls were frustrating at times, but I got used to them as I played.
This game is hilarious. Gameplay felt really good as well. I felt pretty frantic trying to get all the deceased to their almost-final resting places. Really great work!
Thanks a lot for your feedback everyone! We very much appreciate it and will make sure to test your games as well.
Note: we had to update the Web version with a small hotfix, as we realized there was a way players could accidentally but lastingly lose access to the graveyard shop (which would be rather game breaking, as you need the shop to survive).
Funny and very deep gameplay! You did the voice acting yourself?
Really detailed game with lots of mechanics for such a short game, well done. Interesting that you went with automatic selection depending on direction, instead of mouse. Felt weird at first, but then kinda natural.
Really fun! The targeting is a little hard to get right sometimes, but that doesn't make it any less great :).
Love the voice acting!
The atmosphere, the graphics and the gameplay are great.
I made it to seven days on the first try. I can't wait to play again with my new knowledge. While the first few days are really captivating when it comes to stress, I think they will still be interesting as you plan better and better. Good balance!
Greetings from Germany.
**Thanks everyone** for all the positive feedback as well as constructive critizism. We had hoped that you enjoy playing it as much as we did creating it. That seems to work out pretty well so far!
And because the question came up a few times: _yes, we did all the voice acting ourselves and exclusively for this game._ Tools used for this were a Zoom H2 recorder, LMMS, and Audacity.
Keep playing, digging, shopping, and last but not least fighting those inconvenient little zombies! Meanwhile we’ll continue to discover more of your awesome creations. **Good luck everyone!** :nerd: :joystick:
Overall fun game! It hits a lot of good points (fun gameplay, solid mechanics, atmosphere, voice acting, overall mood).
I would say it does not fit the theme too well, due to sudden ramp up in difficulty and corpse spawns (I did not have enough time to even start worrying about space before getting bogged by corpses). However, that's not necessarily bad thing, I think the current gameplay where it is focused on time & resource management is actually very fun. There is a lot of strategy in optimizing your throughput, and some of it may be lost if the game was more geared to the theme.
Bugs:
-If you have a corpse on your tile, you can't interact with any graves
-It's possible to block off the path to the shop with a hole.
-You can put a torch on the grave through the tutorial.
Feedback:
-The speed zombie upgrade is weird. It can be used in interesting ways (control AI to create a speed-y path). However, it costs a ton, and takes a lot of time for zombies to pile up to make use of it. If you buy it, you have to wait a few days for it to have a real effect. The speed upgrade is also very short in duration. It also counter-intuitively punishes the player if they designed their grave early on to purposely create stray zombies, or if they killed zombies early on. I think I would've gotten a lot further if I skipped this upgrade.
-Because of the importance of time/speed over space, all of the size upgrades seem like a waste of money.
-I wasn't sure if torches or the final upgrade even had a worthwhile effect. Perhaps it should be better conveyed to the player, such as some sort of speeding up animation, or a progress bar of sorts.
-Some upgrades I really wish I had while playing: Corpses tossed closer to entrance, and increasing amount of time in a day.
I ended up playing it for way longer than intended, trying to optimize the strategy and get further. Nice work!
Thank you so much for the feedback and it helps alot to make the game even better (after this contest).
Actually we worked a lot on the balancing, in earlier versions you run out of space because the cementry was full and you need to work on free up the graves faster in order to make space. In the end we pushed the game into fasten up because we knew that you guys won't have the time to play the game for a half hour+ (which was the case then) Might change for a later version though, maybe.
@dimlyorchid thank you for investing more time than you wanted to, this is the best compliment. Also for all the feedback&bugreports!!! I hope you keep enjoying to perfect your strategy
My god guys. I played 300+ ludum dare games over the years but none of them made me play as much as yours did. I just wasn't able to give up so I played until I perfected my strategy and actually managed to get to a state where I was able to get the body count down to 0 with time left at the end of the day. Sadly I ran into a bug at day 19 and the game froze, but maybe for the greater good so now I can get back to work. Please make this into a reality I would pay for it. Grave.png
Really great job! The game and graphics are so cool! Congratulations!
This was great, really polished. I don't have much more positive to say that it wasn't said before. I wish the tutorial font was the same than the controls screen, I guess it was less readable in some case but it helps much for the mood. I played for longer than I expected.
That was pretty fun guys. Had a lot of fun.
I did a game similar to yours. Kinda funny :)
Very nice, loved it all, the artwork, the voiceacting, the humour, the contents, everything. I found the anti-aliasing a little strong though and I didn't find it too innovative. All in all, very good entry!
I played twice and got to Day 8. Never got to expand east or west, but I really enjoyed the game, and especially the voice acting!
One of the games I save the link to play other day (because is very good).
The only thing that I played a few times and I think the game needs to speed up the bars, the fill so much slow.
This is so, so impressive! I couldn't figure out how to survive past day 8; I was very quickly overwhelmed. Not sure what to recommend as feedback, really; keep up the awesome work!
ZOMBIE-EEII-EEII-EEII! Wow this is so amazing and so addicting! Definitely gonna bookmark this game. This is the first game to make me feel afraid of the coming morning since they (whoever they are) are going to dump more bodies on my lawn! This would make a cool mobile game. The graphics are great and the mood is just topnotch. And I love the voice acting. The character's and the zombies's dialogue are very funny. Overall, an amazing take on the theme!
Got to admit, we're a little overwhelmed by all your reactions. :) Thanks a lot for all the kind words, we're really glad you enjoy the game! For those of you interested, make sure to check this page again after the Jam - we're inclined to work more on a post Jam version with smoother controls and a few additional features.
@szekeres-szabolcs your comment made my week! We weren't even sure it was possible to beat the game (which you basically did, because the difficulty curve ceases to grow that strongly after some point) without any cheats, but you certainly proved that with your strategy. :) Sorry about the bug though - if this happens to anybody in the future, it would be really helpful if you could have a look into the browser's developer console if there are any errors that caused the crash, and let us know.
@martintristan we actually considered adding a bit of a backstory to who "they" are, but in the end had different priorities (like, you know, adding references to pop songs of course). Thanks a lot for your feedback!
Really solid entry, cool concept, creative fits with the theme, easy to play and addictive, you did a great job! Overall ambiance is good, game play and mechanics are efficient and I  the home-made pixel art! Main issue imho is the controls that are sometimes not very accurate, the auto-selection of a tile next to the player is good but sometimes not what you would expect. Anyway, very good entry, one of the best overall I seen so far during LD42, congratz
Your figured out how to put fun into gravedigging. Great achievement.
Great game guys, i liked it so much! I enjoyed the concept of the game, it was creepy. You game mechanics are well implemented, the only thing i should consider is the text are a little blurry and the zombie ai é very primitive, but it also worked for the game. congratz.
Great Game, guys! You really managed to put together a lot of stuff in a fantastic way and in a very short amount of time! Congratulation. I love it.
Well, I like games about graveyards and this one is pretty cool! Very good art, atmospheric music and voice-over, nice jokes and neat gameplay. It seems to me that day ends too fast. Or maybe there are too many deads in one "delivery". It would be cool to add some different types of zombies or ghosts for variety of mechanics. Good job!
the best so far. Congratulations!!!
Very nice game! I love the graphics, the sound, and some of the smaller details like signalling where the actions will take effect. I would like to see this in some bigger games too. :D
Nicely done! Makes for at least a good 20 minutes of frantic digging and recycling. I'm glad that the zombies are no real threat to the player (Aside from time wasting, damn those days on the graveyard pass fast!)
I wanted to rate a few games but I got addicted to this one and spent a lot of time playing XD Great game, the pixel art is pretty good, and the mechanics of the game are great. I loved that Hans made some coments about the corpses and all that xD Well done!!
An excellent entry. I liked everything about it. I didnt play long enough to see what the end game is, but I dont have anything to complain about that, digging graves in the cemetery has never been that pleasant! The voice acting adds a lot to that.
Love the voice acting! Cool game, sadly never had time to build a nice path while playing.
Thank you all again for your great Feedback. We are still overwhelmed by your positiv Comments!
@akeean The Zombies don't really attack you, because they are Vegan Zombies
This game is excellent. Wonderfully made, well produced art, funny dialogue, nicely presented tutorial that explained the game's surprisingly deep mechanics very well, and solid gameplay. I could nitpick the difficulty of this game and how the bodies seem to pile up unreasonably quickly, but that would be overly critical for a game made in single weekend. Brilliant entry, well done.
Hilarious and very polished game. The tutorial's font was a bit hard to read, for example, compared to the `Diggi 'N' Grave` store font. The voice acting added great depth to it, well done :)
Loved it! All I can say is that it needs to be tweaked to make the game play more restricted by space than by time.
It was funny, engaging, and maybe a tad too difficult. I loved all the voice lines, but I could not keep up with the bodies in the slightest. I was just not able to dig as many graves as there were corpses coming in. Maybe one can pre-dig them in the tutorial before burying the first body ;)
Great game! I had same idea, but made other game. Great realisation!
A really solid entry guys! The store adds some complexity to the game, the graphics are nice, hilarious voice acting and comedy across the board. Great work!
Very solid entry. It didn't work in Firefox for me (just a black screen), but in chrome it ran without a glitch. The pixels were a bit blurred which made the text somewhat hard to read, but on the other hand, there was actually a tutorial. Very nice. I was more of a chaotic gravedigger who was appalled by straight rows of graves and that made the business of keeping corpse count low rather hard. And well that could be something to explore in the expanded areas. To have non-destructible obstacles that one has to plan around. It was a bit vague too when grabbing the corpse to pull it to the grave, so some little feedback there could have helped. In general though, very nice game.
Funny game and quite complete considering the time invested... great job!
Nice game!
