Woah. That's really cool! So unique!

germdog53 2023-10-02 02:53

This is sweet.

mao 2023-10-02 14:51

This is really clever, I love this. I was pretty surprised how smooth it felt.

red-stake 2023-10-02 16:43

I have never, ever looked at the address bar of a browser and thought that could be a videogame level. So smart, well done!

As for the experience, most of the time it was, as mao said, surprisingly smooth, but every once in a while it would hitch for seemingly no reason. That meant completing the spike jumps was more difficult than intended I think.

5/5 for innovation! I would like to see this expanded with more crazy browser elements.

mathstr0fficial 2023-10-02 18:09

You weren't lying, this sure was somewhere in between 1 and 2D! A really really creative interpretation of the theme, and a fun game to boot! I had an occasional issue with dashing to the left in the air? But it seemed to be ok if I wasn't holding the left button while dashing and just held the jump key. A minor issue, but definitely inconvenient on some of the trickier jumps. But overall, shockingly smooth, especially for the style of doing it. As someone who used Construct in the past, I'm fascinated to know how you made this work, especially with testing since you normally just get the localhost:5000 link! Again, a really great job and one of the coolest concepts I've ever seen in a jam game. You should be super happy with yourself.

adamsmccall 2023-10-02 18:53

This is such an original and good idea, I love it. The level got a bit repetitive near the end but how creative can you be in 1D anyway lol

2023-10-03 02:57

Love how it's done!

npckc 2023-10-03 03:12

this is the most innovative & coolest intepretation of the theme i've seen yet!

2023-10-03 03:26

incredibly unique concept, so cool! it was a bit laggy for me (win11 firefox) but i'm just enthralled by the idea here. next level

rmheuer 2023-10-03 03:35

This is a really impressive and unique concept! I'm surprised how smooth the animations are despite being made up of one line of text :) I agree with npckc, this is definitely the coolest interpretation I've seen so far!

darkwolf 2023-10-03 03:46

This is an amazing concept! It absolutely fits the theme and is an amazing way to stand out. You mentioned 1D vs 2D but have you considered 1.5D? Also, it's funny since I guess my game is technically 4D and my favorite so far (yours) is 1D. Regardless, I am seriously impressed with the game. Nice work!

krrtolkien 2023-10-03 03:49

Very interesting. First time I've seen someting like this.

euler-moises 2023-10-03 04:05

Truly an original idea! A great way to play in a very limited space!

Congratulations!

sudocoffee 2023-10-03 04:06

The HD surround audio and RTX visuals were on point! Honestly this is my favorite game so far this jam. Was nearly laughing out loud the whole time. I love games that experiment with unconventional mediums.

Playing it on Firefox (on Windows) has ~5 second pauses a few times a minute, so I switched to Edge which ran fine. Probably something wrong with how Firefox updates the address bar.

dzejpi 2023-10-03 04:57

Never played a game in the address bar, well done! This is probably the most original interpretation of the theme. Jumping over the obstacles sometimes felt pretty tight, but dashing made it easier! And now I gotta clean my browsing history, I felt brave and didn't use incognito. :)

tkap1 2023-10-03 05:06

Very creative!

jesus-gonzalez 2023-10-03 05:06

I can see this winning in innovation.

raassh23 2023-10-03 05:12

Definitely the best in innovation

2023-10-03 06:34

AAAAAAAAAAAAA MY BROWSER HISTORY!! D: unique concept remind me scammy ad.

2023-10-03 09:15

Love the concept! Like @sudocoffee above I also experienced the ~5 sec pauses where the address bar graphics didn't update (but the game logic still ran) on firefox, but I persevered and made it to the end.

bongard22 2023-10-03 12:56

Love the innovation. I do think the dash was a little too OP when it came to enemies, but I have no idea what you could do about that.

2023-10-03 14:01

Mind Blowing concept! I really like some comments during gameplay C:

krassenstein 2023-10-03 19:29

Thanks for letting me play this on stream, it was awesome!

We still don't know how you did this. This game was so innovative!

Here's the VOD with Timestamps so you can click to your game! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_NVsG7UOyfw

2023-10-03 21:32

Simply fantastic. I really enjoyed the writing and gameplay even when it froze at times. When you mentioned the new mechanic I was like "You bastard... Thank you.". Thank you for sharing!

majomirez 2023-10-03 23:42

This is mind blowing! It's so "simple" and original, yet it fits the theme like a glove, I loved it!

nujank 2023-10-04 08:55

This game blew my mind..

The moment the narrator hints that your character couldn't fit on the screen and you notice the game is actually in the URL bar was actually a bit magical. Subverting expectations in the best way possible.

Writing was top notch. Sometimes I felt like he was reading my mind!

Super clever and interesting concept presented perfectly!

2023-10-04 09:46

That was very innovative! I couldnt get past level 7 because I'm not very good at platformers :D but great work!

haydads 2023-10-04 10:37

That is ridiculous! How clever! You should be really proud of that! Great submission!

jerem-watts 2023-10-04 12:27

this game's gunna go far

https://youtu.be/0sV8_tGuqtk

bogotolec 2023-10-04 14:44

Fantastic idea :) But I have looked a bit and skipped a message about incognito mode at the beginning...

rusya-ink 2023-10-04 15:04

Ahah :) It's just brilliant

minjutin 2023-10-04 18:13

A timeless masterpiece. Some people just know how to use those brains of ours

honest-dan 2023-10-04 18:32

Fun concept. I was using firefox and sadly the address bar would occassionally lag and not update. I could still move and hear the sounds so could play blind, and it'd eventually kick back into life. But it kept happening on 4th level so I ended up stopping as it was frustrating when I can't see my character!

The concept as I said was good, but the "your character doesn't fit" when you are writing giant green text felt like not the best reason to be in the address bar!

donitz 2023-10-04 21:58

Very cool idea! It's up there with the favicon SHMUP in interesting stuff you can do with browsers.

kenevil1 2023-10-04 22:12

What a super cool concept, loved playing it.

flyingkaida 2023-10-05 15:32

HOW DID YOU DO THIS!? Ohmygoodness that was so great! Blown away at the totally high end art! I don't know if anyone can out do it. I'm just glad it din't blow my video card XD XD XD

proz 2023-10-05 17:24

Masterpiece!

ttkayttis 2023-10-05 17:32

Really nice innovative game on presentation. Animations are creatively done. Gameplay though suffers from some lag at least for me sometimes witch is understandable for the medium used.

andreadbx 2023-10-05 23:18

So unique and clever game, i did see it on BluishGreenProduction stream and was so amazed by this, totally unique concept, congrats!

2023-10-06 01:38

What a concept, I loved it!!

jose-bonilla 2023-10-08 01:14

Super good game. I'm only not giving full marks because I had seen a similar game in a previous LD jam, but I think this is better implemented. The humor is sensational. Music would have been great!

100th-coin 2023-10-12 17:39

You know how this Ludum Dare's theme was *way too similar* to Ludum Dare 42? I can't help but compare this game to [the LD42 winner in innovation](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/42/outrunning-space-1), as that game also took place entirely in the browser's search bar. (That being said, this game is way more impressive than the LD42 game I linked) I also love when people make entire games in the tabs favicon! It's been a while since I've played a game like this! I've definitely seen more than my fair share of games in the favicon or search bar, but this is one of my favorites.

The dialogue is goofy, and I like how it introduces mechanics with a bit of humor. That being said, the gameplay is a bit... stale? Since I'm already familiar with the gimmick of a game in the search bar, let's talk about the other aspects of the game. This is a platformer where you grab things and carry them one at a time back to the starting point. I completely recognize the difficulty in making a game in the search bar, even more so designing the gameplay, but I feel like the medium of "make the game in the search bar" holds this back. If it was a jam dedicated exclusively to games in the searchbar, this would absolutely stand out at the top. The gameplay is a bit weak, but the presentation is great.

With the negatives aside, allow me to just gush about this, because it *is* cool. (I also appreciate telling the players to play in incognito, so it doesn't flood their history.) The mechanics that you were able to implement in a searchbar game is impressive. The platforming feels tight, the dash mechanic has weight- it's a very well made platformer, even if all the levels are lacking a Y-axis. The limitations of a searchbar game are insane, and you absolutely made the best of it. Bravo!

thelastslowpoke 2023-10-13 03:51

Insane concept and you actually made it work! Crazy cool

sheepolution 2023-10-21 20:10

It's not often that I encounter a gimmick that makes me wish I was the one who came up with that, but this one definitely is. Really clever! I remember playing a game made for Ludum Dare 23 (Tiny World) where the game was inside the favicon. Foolish me totally ignored another editable part in the upper area of your browser.

It's also really well executed. Clear use of ascii symbols, and the jumping and dashing just feels like a regular game. Also the way the browser talks to you. Really good, and totally deserved high ratings!

johnnysix 2023-10-21 21:46

Damn that's impressive! I struggled a little on the spikes, but awesome job, well deserved scores!

Screenshot 2023-10-21 224540.png

Wait, holy *** , you did this with Construct? Holy moley, bonus points!

jordantanner 2023-10-21 23:02

Just played this after the results came out, and wish I'd gotten a chance to rate it (not that you needed my help, evidently!) Super fun concept. Love the humor and a very innovative design as others have said. The platforming actually feels pretty darn good too. Amazing job @eddynardo !

papaver 2023-10-22 00:45

Awesome, enjoyed playing. Congrats with your scores!

bmacintosh 2023-10-24 06:41

Congratulations, certainly a unique game. Just wanted to report that I was sadly unable to get past the first level that required dashing as I was unable to press Left, Up, and Space at the same time (probably a keyboard ghosting issue). Alternate bindings such as AD for Left/Right could mitigate this.

2023-10-24 19:48

It's amazing, but unfortunately I didn't see your work until the end of this event. This work has shown me the infinite possibilities of the game.

matt-walak 2023-10-26 01:37

This is literally so cool

tomssuli 2023-11-07 13:58

Wow, this is super clever use of the theme!
