The art and music are really good. The world looks amazing. You did a really good job setting the atmosphere. I think I ran into a bug though. I got into a battle and then couldn't do anything. Not sure what happened.
Interesting game! really liked the controls and overall style. A bit more guidance on what you're doing or how to do certain things would be nice, but it's a super cool presentation, cool music and art, and really neat game to play
graphics were really good. i had a similar issue to the poster above. the game froze after fighting a couple of enemies
Lotta fun! I absolutely love the way your character sort of bounces their way through the world. That is a very visually pleasing way to get around the time constraints.
Cool looking game. I had fun exploring the elaborate worlds you laid out but I got a little confused as to what I should do. I hope you had a good game jam!
I love how you bounce around the map and how their is not filter in dialogue. I love the turn based combat with being able to choose upgrades after.
Music and the graphics are very charming, but I don't really know what to do. I am moving around, and I assume I ran out of actionpoints to spend and my character does nothing. Even if I waited for a few if this 10 second cycles I still could not move. But it really looks very promising!
Very cool art and systems from such little time. Love the pixel art style too!
Let me just start out by saying the art in this game is very very impressive. And how much you guys have gotten done in this short amount of time is also impressive. But I could not get very far in this game.
The "every ten seconds" theme does not seem very prevalent, some cut scenes seemingly randomly triggered and didn't make much sense for the story, and at one point I just got sent back to the beginning of the game again (starting with the cutscene), so I got a little frustrated and stopped. I can totally tell that with more time to work out the kinks, this could be an awesome game. But right now it's hard to get a handle on.
I would love to try playing again after a little bit more time is added to the game however! I'm really liking the direction.
Start of a cool little RPG, I think! Wasnt sure where the theme fit in, but maybe I didnt make it far enough? After accepting the first quest, I got teleported to a new map and wasnt sure what to do (Went from me and someone named Burns talking to a merchant to some people named Wesley and Sadaarta talking about building a portal?), not sure if that was intentional, but it was a little disorienting. Great Job Otherwise!
Thanks for all the kind comments everyone! We'll read them throughly and make sure to iron out the rough edges! :)
I'm not sure what happened, but I was exploring the map and got teleported somewhere where I probably shouldn't be yet and got stuck there.
Other than that, the artstyle was great and the battle mechanics were interesting!
Beautiful art but unfortunately I had a lot of trouble progressing through the game - I think I walked somewhere where I shouldn't have and got teleported forward into a fight that froze the game. If you manage to iron out these rough edges, I'm sure this would be a great experience! 😊
Very beautiful art and music, but gameplay is very frustrating :(
Thanks! We're hard at work for an update that fine tunes some of the gameplay! ^-^
I really wanted to give this game a shot, but sadly the constant camera jitter while moving and the weird left and right character pathfinding are making me motion sick
The camera should be a bit smoother in the next update!
Great art, nice to see some shader stuff going in with the dithering when behind objects. It was a bit unclear to me what the mechanic is and how every 10 second interval counts.
After trying the game a couple times I think there are a couple bugs I noticed, but some of it is just the messaging of how to play the game. I'm just going to list things I noticed, there's probably a lot you may know about already. - It's not really stated that the game is turn based. First couple times I was playing I was just clicking around and trying to attack the enemies as fast as possible, but clicking a lot gave enemies more turns so I quickly died. - The game locks up if you die and you can't restart. - After talking to the merchant and getting the quest one time, I went right and got teleported into an evening area, and got the password. Upon returning I was back at the beginning, and after i killed the enemies again the game locked up. - After talking to the merchant and getting the quest, I went up, which led me talking to a scientist and I got another quest. I accidentally talked to the scientist again and got the quest twice. After walking around again, I got teleported into an area where there were a lot of enemies (guy with a chain saw) but they were all noninteractable, and then eventually was teleported into what felt like a last battle. But there were two of me and a little wizard guy. I thought maybe they were all in my party and so I got killed by the wizard guy. - corruption I assume is the dark miasma that grows during battles and prevents you from moving, but I'm not sure.
Level design wise, while I liked a lot of the environment and tiles, most of it was empty dead ends.
Overall really good art and it feels like there is a lot of content in the game, but as a player would like some more direction. nice job!
The music really stands out for me in this game. The combat reminds me of Final Fantasy but more like checkers or a board game which felt unique. I liked playing it but my combat glitched and the game froze after the fight.
Loved the graphics and music, they were really great :) !
Really love this art style and mood! The player locomotion is really fun too. I couldn't quite figure out how to engage in battle - Maybe some kind of in-battle interface would have been helpful? But otherwise its awesome :)
I LOVED the graphics and really liked the unfiltered dialogues. I got stuck pretty fast trying to figure out what to do, and I wish i could have encountered more fights, as I really liked the ones I did
Your game is incredibly beautiful - graphics and sound sum up wonderfully. I attempted three times playing it, but I've got softlocked always after a battle (dying, continuing with 0 hp or completing a combat with the dragon, leading to freeze). The positioning when battling wasn't that easy, maybe with target tile highlighting it would have been easier to execute a tactic having in mind (but getting thrown over because I was one tile off). Moving around is a little bit annoying when your character jumps back to the previous tile when selecting a new position while currently moving (I guess that's because of "hopping the first tile" upon starting movement, so I assume either disabling the hopping on the first tile when clicking during movement or queueing the inputs would solve this). But nevertheless - solid entry. The water shader is amazing.
So glad to see fantasy TBRPG project. This game is cool, thx guys for let me playin it
That was super great for a 72 hour jam, absolutely beautiful! I didn't end up finishing it, but I played for maybe 15-20 minutes, and it was really really good. It played great, even just walking around was well done; looking around for interactables and potions was nice; the NPCs were well made and served their purpose with personality ! The only bug I experienced while playing is that you could accept a quest multiple times, and it would just stack it in the top right corner. Overall, really well made, the art was suuuuuper duper great! I loved it, please keep it up! :)
Thanks for the positive feedback, everyone. We really appreciate it!
The game has a good premise, I wished I got guided toward the fun more. Opening the game I was completely stunned by how beautiful the art is, and then noticing the music made me stop to just listen!
After my first fight I didn't know what to do, and I got into lengthy conversations that I wished were shorter and to the point, and I didn't face any other fight despite moving what I believe the whole map.
Other than that, I think this is a solid entry that deserve recognition. Keep doing games!
The art and music are amazing! The gameplay needs a bit of polish.
funny
the art and the music were amazing, brought a lot to the atmosphere! but yeah, game need to be polished, fixed a little bit and it will be cool! nice job
This felt extremely ambitious and really impressive because of all you were able to put into the game. I was pleasantly surprised and I enjoyed the combat. It was a cool idea.
@div00 Thanks, due to the time constraints we only focused on the main story encounters. But I'm happy you like the systems, art and music! We're definitely continuing with our passion for games. ;-)
@diego-teran Thank you! Happy you like the art and music!
@satacat yeah, making a rpg was definitely quite a challenge considering the time restraints. I'm happy you liked the art and music!
@tanner-shelton Thanks, we worked quite hard on this and a huge props to @arzi for creating a story and rpg system during this short time.
This was a very ambitious entry. A lot of systems, probably a lot of logic, and a lot of art. Very impressive given the time restrictions.
The art was top tier. Good designs, and GREAT direction - I liked how visually distinct the areas look even though they reused the same art.
Story was neat too. I liked that all the characters had their own "voices" in the way they were written. The dialog read well, like it could feasibly be spoken aloud by real people, which is rare in this genre! :D
I liked the battle system. It felt snappy to control which is important in SRPGs (and isunfortunately is often overlooked), especially ones where the battle arenas are arbitrarily sized. Having said that, I felt like it was a little too easy to get turned around. In the third area I got into a fight and my 3 party members were spread out quite far apart when the battle started. It meant that the camera was flicking back and forth across quite long distances which was a little disorienting.
Other than that my only criticisms are about pacing and hand-holding! Took me ages to figure out the crate holding the gem was an interactable object, because the first thing I did in the game was click the crate in the starting area!
Overall, great work!
Thanks for the feedback @teddyreid !
We certainly ran out of time, so the onboarding could have been better and the spawn points were a bit wonky in the last battle, as it was originally designed to be multiple small battles, but I couldn't get that to work reliably enough.
This is an amazing amount of work put into a Jam project - only some polish issues (the lack of proper movement animations, the repeating quest dialogues) betray it was made under time pressure.
One other issue I'd like to bring up: perhaps there should be some kind of compass indicator or minimap for quests? I think I got lost after saving the alchemist and ran into a fight I wasn't supposed to encounter yet @_@;
beautiful pixel art!!!
Nice pixel arts ,very like this style
Thanks for the kind words @ryusui , @projectcolorball and @igor-morgun!
I think there a lot of valuable feedback already given above. From my side I can just say that it looks pretty impressively done for the limited amount of time. Yes it's not finished and I see a struggle of level designer & artist to make even more detailed world, but time is the time
Good one!
Thank you @erlioniel
Excellent artwork in this one, the isometric view and sprite art is very nice. I also like the addition of quests in addition to the combat and exploration. The UI is simple and polished. Combat works well, too. What did you use to achieve the semi-transparent effect when the player goes behind an obstacle? Is that done with a shader? I need to learn more about shaders! Awesome entry!
Hi Jordan,
We used sprite masks to hide objects when characters are behind them!
The water was made using ShaderGraph.
Great looking art, interesting mechanics, it's a strong package. Only crit: -In combat it would have been nice to have a visible grid given the positioning requirements (no diagonal attacks) -The aforementioned onboarding issues/gem hunt and readability of the environments. -The overworld player movement had a bit of a jitter to it, but that's a polish issue rather than a flaw. Excited to see what's next from this team!
Thanks for playing HexyVexy!
Art was amazing, music was fun, humor/swearing was hilarious. Things I would improve:
- Walk cycle instead of bounce, - More battles in the beginning, - More stuff to do instead of just bouncing around
That is all I can think of for now. I would love to try this game again when there is a walk cycle because I found the bouncing a little too much for eye strain, but otherwise I love love love the dialogue, the art, and the whole idea of it!
Wow, you've done a tremendous job. Great graphics and nice music, created a fantastic atmosphere. I enjoyed playing your game ✨
I don't want to play this, yet... I want you guys to take it, tweak it all out of jam, and then I'll play the full game that wasn't made so fast, because this is great and I'm just sorry I can't play the full finished version. Because I just peeked into this world and I already adore it. Please don't put this game in the drawer, try to finish it. This is exactly the type of games I love and I hope to play the finished version one day. Really great work
This is a seriously seriously well done entry. Absolutely amazing that you pulled all this off in just 3 days! The pixel art is amazing, the music and audio is perfect, and its always amazing to see someone fit a story into the game. I'm amazed you pulled it all off in such a short time. Oddly enough, of all the things to really blow me away, I'm most impressed by the pixelated see through obscuring object effect that you have going on! I'm definitely taking that idea for my next game!! It was really well executed, and the programming complexity at play here is insane. A job well done, and thank you for the entry!
What a beautiful game!
The art is even nicer than your previous games, and that's quite something! And with soo much content, that's very impressive.
Having a mix of exploration and turn based combat is fun. The exploration feels good. The combat was a bit messy to me. I had trouble with understanding the position of things, and the dice roll mechanic felt a bit unintuitive and unimportant.
Impressive jam game nonetheless, good job!
@doot Thank you, I'm happy to hear you like the art! :) I'm impressed myself how many levels and story we were able to create during this weekend.
@jag Thank you! I think @arzi did a great job on the story. I love creating little shaders thingies like that to push the pixel art medium forward.
@skel3ton I'm happy you like this. The future of this project is uncertain at the moment, but who knows.
@n-n Glad you enjoyed playing our game!
@artofluba yes, one of our post jam fixes is tracking the character's position without factoring in the bouncing. :)
