I can't believe that, for once, I was ready well before the deadline and I even had some time to polish the gameplay a bit and compose some music. Well, the music isn't that great, but anyway. I did it! 😅

Other raters: go play one round of the game FIRST, read the comments LATER, this is one that's better when you go into it blind.

jacobwinters 2026-10-18 23:21 ♥ 1

The moment when it revealed what the game really was, was great. Now my hand is tired from mashing the spacebar. I never did figure out if there was some strategy to letting the fire die down for a moment so you could take an obstacle more slowly.

High score 631.0 billion.

enad96 2026-10-18 23:27 ♥ 1

Love this one, surprisingly hard to keep mashing space while also flappy birdying.

ntmalichi 2026-10-19 01:57 ♥ 2

@jacobwinters HOLY 631 billion is insane, I just got 5.1 billion and was pretty satisfied from it XD

@xedur I loved it, I saw some blog posts you posted about it and congrats on not spoiling what the game is actually about. I also love the attention to details that you leave Earth's orbit at around 21K knots which is around the escape velocity from earth

xedur 2026-10-19 02:38 ♥ 0

After a well-earned good night's sleep, I played the game some more as well. Here's my record. 😄

full-steam-ahead-personal-best.png

One friend of mine managed to score 531.0 quadrillion knots.

xedur 2026-10-19 02:41 ♥ 1

For those who want to break into ludicrous speeds, **my tip is to play near the center**. There's *slightly* less asteroids and planets around the center, and you've got more space to steer up or down when needed.

brimstone 2026-10-19 08:03 ♥ 2

200 billion knots! I am a sucker for games that make you go fast, and this game hit the spot! Really enjoyed it, and the art was really good. The captain's dialogue being red when you slow down is a nice subtle way of telling the player to speed up without being "in your face".

gevernus 2026-10-19 08:50 ♥ 1

Really charming! The captain's lines made me smile, the pixel art is clean and the shovel-and-steer loop is easy to get into. It's a lovely little clicker, I kept wanting to shovel just a bit more. The moment the game reveals what it really is was a great surprise. Solid, polished compo entry, well done!

indigowolf 2026-10-19 16:51 ♥ 1

Loved the intro into the real game, best I could do was 80b, I always was terrible at this type of game :'(

tasakasama 2026-10-19 17:16 ♥ 1

The idea is really clever and fun; however, I find it hard to see the obstacles because there are too many visual effects. Congratulations to you all!

samet-aylak 2026-10-19 18:35 ♥ 1

it's really fun. it's been a long time to have fun with great visuals!!

flightless 2026-10-19 19:41 ♥ 1

My fingers are tired! 😄

Skärmbild 2026-10-19 214001.png

Great fun, and very well made graphics and feel.

t4ran 2026-10-19 20:36 ♥ 1

That was very unexpected—a truly old technology, indeed. Awesome.

My score isn't the best, but its honest work 😤

Its really well done overall, great job! Everything is super complete and cohesive.

I would echo what TasakaSama said, my best run had nothing to do with me skillfully avoiding anything and was mostly luck because I couldn't really see most of the smaller obstacles (asteriodss?) as they blended in to the background, effects, the text on the screen was taking up a big portion of it, etc.

That being said, the humor in some of the dialogue is just fantastic... "hah I always knew it was flat!" lol

vorondesan 2026-10-20 14:17 ♥ 1

Some obstacles are hard too see, otherwise i`ts cool, or dare i say coal!

koala585 2026-10-20 19:36 ♥ 1

I love it! Screenshot from 2026-10-20 22-36-12.png

sanechekz 2026-10-20 19:59 ♥ 1

That was unexpected! The art is amazing, and the gameplay is super fast-paced and fun. Really cool and polished game. Awesome work!

eugenik 2026-10-20 22:59 ♥ 1

The constant pressure coming from the captain really elevated the tension beyond just a simple speed challenge. It's fun how that mounting impatience adds a great layer of stress to the entire experience. You really captured the frantic, demanding energy of stoking a machine at ridiculous speeds!

helagos 2026-10-21 16:41 ♥ 1

Wow, it's exactly what I would like to be able to make for a compo entry. The game loop is so simple with a really good polished style. I loved it, great job !

mikeware 2026-10-23 07:17 ♥ 1

Ok, that was unexpected and awesome, great job! Haha, I can see myself getting stuck playing this for a while. 😅 My rating should push you over 20! Toot toot!

(I forgot to mention, I was expecting the boiler to explode if you pushed it too hard...)

xedur 2026-10-23 07:46 ♥ 1

@mikeware Oh, these boilers don't explode. They're reliable old tech and rated to 40 psi! I'm no engineer, but surely that can handle the pressure as the boat speeds up to quadrillion or even quintillion knots!

Also, **thank you all for playing and rating the game!** I'm still on a personal mission to rate at least 30 games. 😅

silkworm-sweatshop 2026-10-23 13:41 ♥ 1

Was confused the first few times when the second control prompt came up and thought I lost because I went too fast since I would just crash right after. Boy was I wrong, and when it clicked that that was the beginning of the true game I had a blast flying through space. Really polished graphics with a simple idea and great execution.

lucaeas 2026-10-23 14:01 ♥ 1

Very funny game!!! The concept is so simple yet so well executed, great job!

darwyn 2026-10-23 14:31 ♥ 1

Carpal tunnel syndrome incoming... How much is the ibuprofen lobby paying you?

freamdev 2026-10-23 14:56 ♥ 1

This is a very nicely polished game for a compo well done! Difficulty wise I think it's in the right place but I'm really bad so I didnt even made it near the records shown here.

gurtek 2026-10-23 16:54 ♥ 1

A really fun game with great graphics! I think I managed to set a record, but RIP my hand XD.

TopSpeedFullSteamAhead.PNG

My technique is to use both the spacebar AND the Enter key to gain a lot of speed right from the start. And since I’m using an AZERTY keyboard, the 'W' key is very close to the spacebar, which makes controlling the ship somewhat manageable. In any case, you rarely have time to dodge a planet ^^. So i just tryed until i had luck !

jordantanner 2026-10-23 18:19 ♥ 1

Very fun and suprising game once you figure out what's going on! Took me several tries to realize that the tutorial popping up wasn't a bug and that I was just getting started, and that I needed to hold W/UP. After that it was "smooth" sailing. One quality of life and fairness addition to consider: perhaps show a flashing warning ⚠️ symbol or "!" on the right edge of the screen when an obstacle is about to be in your lane there. Overall very polished and a super fun compo entry, great work!

rend 2026-10-23 19:31 ♥ 1

Man that intro alone is an instant 5 star rating!! The game could be a bit less punishing maybe by advertising what's coming next, and the text bubble hides a pretty good portion of the screen, it may be intended but it adds to the difficulty arbitrarily. Nonetheless that's a super neat entry (forgot to say that I really like your pixel art)

lllarso 2026-10-24 10:54 ♥ 0

Haha, what a great little game. :D

I just have one suggestion: I tried pressing UP/W while I was on the water. I didn't get the mechanic is just for the space section and on my first tries, I always chrashed in the beginning of the space and I thought I shouldn't be there. Fortunately I tried it more times and finally got the real game. :D Maybe it was just me, but a hint during space would be great. Or did I missed it? UPDATE: Ah your opening GIF on this page gave me the impression that you should stay on water.

As other people mentioned the lines of the captain are such a nice touch! I think the captain would not be happy with my smiling reaction to his lines. :D The controls felt good and the sprites are working well together. Congrats for finishing your project in a good time! :)

naidove 2026-10-25 05:52 ♥ 0

Wow, this was such a fun game! I ended up playing for quite a while, and I was hitting the spacebar so hard that the noise actually attracted my family over to see what I was doing, hahaha. Great job!
